(OOC: This will be the final reference thread before my first IC post so as to provide onlookers and my chosen partner in the coming RP - The Tandu - with the information to allow the story to develop with a maximum of required information to describe the situation.
I have decided to use vessels of a design seen in the Warhammer 40,000-based game Battlefleet Gothic due to my particular fondness for the designs. However, unlike within the actual game, I plan to scale each design to a realistic standard - no 30,000-crew vessels here. :))
Vigilant Class Cruiser

Specifications
Length: 250 Metres
Width: 70 Metres
Crew: 180 (20 Officers, 160 Crew)
Powerplant: 2x Fusion Reactors (Primary), Solar Batteries (Secondary)
Engines: 8g Hydrogen Fuel Motors (Prime Movers), 4g Hydrogen Fuel Motors (Reverse Thrusters)
Weaponry: 10x Ten Megawatt Laser Turrets (5 Port, 5 Starboard), Armoured Battering Ram
Defence Systems: Armoured Hull, Point Defence Laser (Forecastle)
Background:
The Vigilant Class Cruiser was the first large-scale space vessel designed by the Remican Empire. After the reclassification of the Remican Imperial Space Project to the Remican Imperial Space Force (RISF), Emperor Remic decreed that the RISF would require vessels for exploration, defence and expansion of the Remican Empire at a later date, unlike the smaller vessels used in the past to simply chart the Remica Solar System.
The first Vigilant Class Cruiser, ISS Vigilant NC-01, was laid down in the Year 166 AR, and launched nine Remican Years later, with a run of nine more vessels constructed over the course of 177-195 AR. Each vessel carries a pair of Fusion Reactors as main powerplants, with battery packs for emergency power. Sublight propulsion is handled by large engines that run Hydrogen fuel through the reactors, superheating the fuel substance and providing thrust. The Vigilant Class carries ten port- and starboard-mounted Laser turrets that provide a 10 Megawatt strength blast, capable of burning through shields an armour with extended fire. The Vigilant Class also carries an armoured hull, complemented with a fore-mounted Battering Ram for close range damage infliction.
At the time of writing, the ISS Vigilant is undergoing Faster-Than-Light experiments, with plans to retrofit each Vigilant Class vessel to this capacity.
