Earth: 1000 BC
Hyperspatial Travel
01-08-2007, 10:47
1) Your NS population is to be divided by a factor of 2000 (For each billion people you have in your NS nation, you should have 500,000 people in Earth: 1000 BC. Should this cause your population to be lower than 500,000, you may round up to 500,000).
2) The map is divided into provinces. For each 250,000 people you have, you may claim one province. Provinces claimed should be connected by land, although this is not obligatory.
You also gain a number of bonus provinces if you are in the first five people to join, alongside a bonus 250,000 people for each bonus province. The 1st person gains 5 bonus provinces, the second gains 4, and so on, until the fifth person, who gains one.
Note that tiny islands (around Rhodes-sized) may be counted as part of the largest province near them. Cyprus and Crete are provinces of their own.
3) Claims are limited to the Mediterranean area, and will be expanded into northern Europe upon the filling of most of the Mediterranean area.
4) Godmodders and wankers may be ejected without notice
5) Realism is key, people willing to RP realistically are most welcome. Keep in mind
6) As this takes place with variants of our NS nations, it will take place entirely on Jolt.
7) A factbook is necessary, when it comes to social, political, and economic as well as military information.
8) When the Mediterranean area is filled up, Asia Minor and Northern Europe will be opened up for claims.
9) Technology will not advance as per history, only when granting special requests for new technology. Keep in mind this is early Iron Age technology.
10) Earth: 1000 BC is NOT the Earth of that time sociopolitically, ethnically, or in terms of cities and forts. Only geography and natural resources remain the same. You may place your cities, forts, towns and armies wherever you like.
11) Each week counts as one year, and each year, population shall grow by 5%.
12) Note: The four provinces in the map with the Nile in them have enough food each to feed five provinces, however, they will gain no specialisation, such as natural resources, in each province.
Gameplay:
You may choose one (1) natural resource per province you own, and one (1) rare resource for each four (4) provinces you own, with a minimum of 1 rare resource. Each resource may be worked into trade RPs and, if you do not possess a resource, you obviously may not produce things requiring major amounts of resources you don't have. Each resource is enough to sustain four other provinces in a state of moderate wealth. Note that all provinces are self-sufficient when it comes to food.
Natural Resources:
Wood (Building boats, buildings, etc)
Common Metals (Copper, tin, other easily-mined metals [not iron or valuable metals])
Stone (Stone-mining for building forts, walls, houses, etc)
Pottery (A thriving pottery industry is vital for any nation, especially when it comes to storage)
Livestock (Oxen, donkeys, etc. Animals like these are immensely helpful when it comes to both hauling goods and making war, as well as the produce of wool, milk, and leather, as well as meat.)
Clothing (Cotton, linen, and wool, the infrastructure required to turn these things into clothing, gives your people clothing, which they will most assuredly need.)
Rare Resources:
Precious Metals (Gold and silver are the basis for most economies at this time)
Iron (Iron weaponry and shields are the basis for any superior army)
Slaves (Tribes in your area provide slaves to help stimulate your economy)
If anyone would like to suggest further resources, please do so.

The Republic of Hellas is one of the larger nations in the world. Although it is not imperialistic, it maintains a healthy slave trade, and is a fair iron producer, to boot. Founded in 1200 BC in the city of Reman, all male citizens over the age of 25 who also hold property have the right to vote in elections, put their name down to hold public office, and serve in the army as an officer.
The Hellas army is fairly small, for the Republic's population, but well-trained, comprised mainly of hoplites who purchase their own gear, and also large units of cavalrymen who keep the peace on the edge of the Republic. The main power of Hellas stems from their fleets, which roam the Mediterranean, plundering at will. Vast fleets keep the Republic united, for the Aegean Sea is the key to trade, and, without control of the sea, the nation would die.

Livestock are an important resource. What are your people going to wear or eat?
Sheep produce wool and cows produce milk (and butter and cheese). In turn, butter was used to preserve eggs. Better add poultry to the list!
Linen and cotton are too labour intensive and require transport and the right climatic conditions.
Wool was what made England wealthy in the Middle Ages.

Population: 500,000
Provinces: 2
Resource(s):
Wheat
Olive Oil
Rare Resource(s):
Marble
Size: 8,336 sq. km. (3,219 sq .mi.)
(I'd be interested in having Crete as my location)
A small, mountainous island in the Mediterranean Sea, near the mainland of [Greece]. The majority of Mino's citizenry live off the abundance of the sea, and they worship it as their primary goddess. The government is headed by a council of twelve elders, who rule from the Knossos Place, a fabulous marble building that is the pride of the island.
The island is divided into five sectors, and has nine major cities. Life is centered around trade and bureaucracy with little to no military build-up.
Inheritance in Mino is matrilineal, and women have a high degree of autonomy. The civilization has been in decline since the end of the Bronze Age, and has seen its degree of influence rapidly degenerating due to its aggressive northern neighbors.

True, true. I had originally included them in pack animals, but I suppose livestock is a larger, more useful classification. And linen would probably fit in well, as well.
Bredford, you are indeed supposed to create your own nation.
Sskiss, it was probably influenced by your ideas, although I ripped off the layout from Eu 1914, which I ran. Now the map's here, the first four people to post their nation and location on the map will gain the extra provinces. Ready... GO!

Brief History: The C'an Empire was founded in 1350 B.C in the city of C'arnalsis under the principles of Strength, Unity and Faith in C'an, the Golden Protector and Overseer in the Empire's religion of D'istan. The nation is led by a C'aniph, literally "a Vessel of C'an" who acts as the key religious and governmental figure in the lands. The current C'aniph is Aknuz II who has been in pwer for ten years since the age of 25.
The Military is made up of peasents who are conscripted in times of strife, the C'anian Guard who are a group of Heavy Footmen used to break enemy lines, the C'aniphate Outriders, a camel-back cavalry group that patrol the outer borderlands, and the Navy which is made up of galleys and catapult ships that escort merchant shipping to Sardin and C'or (Sardinia and Corsica).
The Empire is known for its skill in fortification building which was a necessity when they expanded to incorporate Greater C'an. Each sizable city contains a fortified structure of some sort in the middle, usually on an artificial hill. This skill has brought the Empire a much easier time keeping order in the Greater C'an region against oppositional attacks on their riegn.

I muffed up (accidentally hitting "post" before I put the map in the post) at first, but, from now on, extra provinces, and claims, are determined entirely by people who edit and upload the map.
Secondly, edit it so I can see it.

The Persian Empire consumes most of Asia minor and stretches far into the east. The home of civilisation and the seat of most of the worlds population, this behemoth of power gives few civil rights to those in the lower echelons of society.
However, this does not mean that there is oppression or punitive laws. Far from it. The Empire is made up of patch work of cultures each and every single one accepted and honoured by the Great King. In fact it is safer to assume that the Empire is more of a network of smaller kingdoms each one pulled and stitched together by the greater throne in Babylon.
Rich beyond your wildest dreams the Persian Empire relies on trade from the far east more than shipping from the Mediterranean. Consistent of land forces, it is said that her armies stretch across the lands, from where the sun rises to where it sets.

The Shakal Empire is a warrior nation. Its position on the Italian Peninsula has forced the people to fight off the various barbarian tribes making them stout fighters. The economy revolves around trade in the medeterreanian. The Livestock provide handy batering power to the nearby sialnds which lack large amounts of space for raising animals.
The fleet, though small, is well trained and very well equipped. Its sole purpose is to assure that the trade vessels reach there destination. The Army consists of a several town garrisons of varrying sizes from 100-1000 soldiers all career. The Remainder of the core force known as the Armored Legion are a force of 15 000 men that the army is gathered around. They generally use the typical Hoplite tactics on a smaller scale being only 3 lines deep and using shorter spears. This gives them greater mobility over the mountainous terrain.

Boo! Latium has been claimed, and this would be such a fun RP to be in.
I would like to Claim South-East England, 2 territories please :)
HT, realisticlly my people would be located to the south off the map. At just over 7 billion Sskiss at this point, I would possess a total population of 3.509 million thus allowing me access to 14 territories.
Resources are as follows;
Natural resources
Common metals x 8 (Copper, Zinc and Tin)
Clay x 3 (Pottery)
Stone x 3 (Granite, Red and Yellow Sandstone)
Rare resources
Rare Timber x 1 (A tropical hardwood used for building materials and a variety of other uses)
Salt x 1 (Used as a preservative to prevent meat from becoming to putrid)
Rare Livestock x 1 (Khass - A highly prized herd animal indiginous to the regions. Used for meat, labor, hides and transporting trade goods)
The Sskiss are a rapacious semi-nomadic race of hunters and herders which inhabit a region composed of vast semi arid plains and tropical grasslands. These lands possess distinct wet and dry seasons and most of the rivers are also seasonal. As a result of this, the Sskiss's existance is linked with the yearly rains that allow all life to exist in abundance as well as their herds of Khass - a species a dwarf sauropod massing between 3 to 8 tons and reaching lengths of up to 9 meters.
Sskiss also inhabite permanent camps centered around mining resources such as precious salt and metals such as copper, zinc and tin as well as quarries of granite, red and yellow sandstone and clay extraction sites around rivers. Although carnivorous, the Sskiss also practice agriculture for the benefit of their herd animals and have developed sophisticated irrigation practices as a result.
Sskiss live in packs of up to several score and encampments may number in the thousands. Buildings are made of clay or stone with a number of underground chambers and other areas used mainly for breeding or storage. Competition between encampments, as well as packs, can be both fierce and intense. However, when a common enemy threatens, any existing conflict will be cast aside to deal with the perceived threat in unison.
Sskiss weaponry are made of bronze (an alloy of copper and tin) and their armour is either made of tough flexible leather reinforced with metal disks made of copper, bronze or brass or a mixture of plate and banded armour made of these metals and alloys.
[Looks good!]
The Realm of Mardos
Population: 2.6 million people
Provinces: 10
Resources:
Wood x 3
Common Metals x 3
Stone x 2
Pack Animals x 2
Rare Resources:
Iron x1
Slaves x1
Founded and ruled by Warlod Bladen Malthus, the Realm of Mardos is a violent, brutal, dangerous place, in which there is no guaranteed safety. Warlord Malthus recently conquered the realm after years of civil war with several other powerful warlords, Grison, Dorn and Bark. The skulls of the three men have been placed upon a trophy rack in Malthus' War Room. The Brutal Warlord commands a rather large and vicious army. Equipped with iron weaponry, merciless (some would say sociopathic) brutality, and fighting prowess to match any, they are a fear to all.
The Army runs the country with an iron fist, enslaving various local tribes entirely, and demanding tribute from all villages and cities of the realm. They strike fear into the hearts of all, however it is not a totally solidified state. Any man whom thinks he is better fit to rule Mardos may challenge Malthus to personal combat. So far Matlhus and his black iron sword have felled all that have opposed him... and challengers have become scarce.
http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/4316/0claimsmapecworldwx1gd7.png
Other possibleities for resources could include the following; salt, coal, herbs and spices, olives (olive oil), grapes (wine), rare timbers, rare livestock (may possess multiple uses or be renouned for certain qualities), jade, pearls, marble, incense, glass, fresh water (another important resource) amber, furs, gemstones (various types), dyes, wheat, barley (for beer), wild game, etc....
Furthermore, I would prefer the raw material listed rather than the finished product. For example Clay instead of pottery or wool, cotten, silk instead of clothing. I would also like to see specific food types as well. The more variety of foods your people have excess too, the healthier your populations are.
I also noticed that the really small nations here have very little. I think it would be more prudent (and fair) to give everyone 10 free points as a base to spend as they like and drop the 'first come first served' bonuses for the first five to log their nation. This will level the playing field somewhat and give the smaller nations something more to work with.
Let me know what you all think.
Empire of Moroas [Mah-row-ahs]
Population: 500,000
Provinces: [2]
Resources
Woods [1]
Pottery [1]
Rare Resources
Precious metals [1]
The Empire of Moroas is a relatively small state, but it is one on the rise. It has established itself as a trading state, using the supply of wood to build ships that turn around and trade the empires healthy supply of gold. The nation is mostly a merchant-marine empire, though the production of warships has begun, in order to defend the cargo of the trading ships.
The army of the country is small, seeing as iron isn't very abundant for Moroas. They hope to start taking lands that produce iron, thus making the army more formidable. The current army uses copper spears, with an occasional iron tipped spear going to high ranked officers. Metal armor is currently unheard of. In fact, most soldiers go without armor, seeing as leather isn't as common as in other states. Therefore, the army tends to stay in small units, working as a hit and run infantry army. This proves unaffective against calvary equipped armies, though.
Though an empire in name, the country is a life-time democracy, in theory. In practice, it's more of a dictatorship. An emperor is elected for life. The nominee's for emperor tend to be from the same few families every election.
The voters are aristocrats only. Free, male land-owners.
Slavery is a necessity of the state. They are used on farms, and other mundane tasks. Slaves are not used in the military, though, for the government fears what could happen if the slaves were armed and trained to fight.
((I know I'm a newbie on this site, but I have experience on other sites. So, with that said, I'm looking forward to the RP, and hope it does well.))

HT, here's some more ideas you might like. I would like to divide resouces into four seperate catagories indicating their rarity. These are Common, Uncommon, Rare and Unique. The ratio to the number of resources to the number of territories you possess is as follows; Common 1/1, Uncommon 1/2, Rare 1/4 and Unique 1/8.
Futhermore, in some cases the less common the resource, the more benifits it has. For example, a unique livestock (horse) might possess several benificial traits. To this end, uncommon resources will possess 1 benificial trait, rare, 2 benificial traits and unique up to 4 benificial traits. In the example above, the unique breed of horse might be renouned for its speed, stanima, intelligence and hardyness.
In addition, if a player's race possess a large number of a given resource (for example, the Sskiss possess 8 common metal resources) it could also indicate that my people have access to several different common metals (I chose three - in this case Copper, Zinc and Tin) for use as another good example of how things can work. The same method might also work for stone, marble, clay and food resources.
Its up to you to how rare a given resource is. Some will be easy enough. You might want to keep iron at rare and unique. Others like, for eaxmple gemstones might be at least uncommon and can easily reach unique status. Use common sense. Players can use some imagination to think up (within reason of course) their own special rare and unique resources.
I also stressed earlier, that there should be a difference between the raw resource and the finished product. Cotton is a raw resource, while clothing would be a finished product, clay would be a raw resource will pottery would be a finished product and so on.

Ok.
