I suppose this should go here too, with some IC filler:
*Note: heavy on propopganda and lies, many embelished details*

HNN: (Hurtian News network):

"Today, we bring with great sadness, that Minister of Foriegn Affars, Barney S. Gumbal, is now dead.

Earlier this week, he attempted to overthrow the great all knowing Leader Milo from power, however, being all knowing, Milo had laid a trap for Gumbal, captured him, and had him executed earlier today.

To replace this calm and caring leader, we are being informed that a man called 'Donnovan' is being appointed the role as MoFA, all we know of this person is that he is also the head of CHIA, and rumurs of a 'secret army' that rivals even the mighty HOI is also under his control, though we cannot confirm any of this.

The HLCA has declared war upon 'The tyrant dictator' that we all know and love as "Leader Milo", and a representitive has asked us to re-title the legitamate HLCA as a terrorist cult, the Hutrian Civil Liberties Militia. Milo gave no comment, and we failed to get a hold of the new MoFA, so we went to our leader of domestic military control, HOI general Mendez, who had this to say:

"Burn them all, just a few more bodies for the fire"

Afterwards he shot the cameraman "for being a terrorist spy".

Mass bloodletting in the central city of Kindu continue today, as Orange cultists see this as the begining of the end, and in order to avert it, are killing as many non-believers as possable, Mendez noted among other things, that this would make his job much easier in the long run.

In Evale, The Five Points, again, raided another military convoy, killing 85 of the 150 HOI mercenaries, and then instructed them to march blindfolded into Luanda, they however, never made it, as they walked in circles in the desert until they died of exhaustion.

Milo is now calling this a 'time of emergency' and has declared martial law and a strict curfew throughout the country, he advises ambassadors to stay in their embassies at all times and that all tourists leave immediately.

This is Patrick O'Connel of the Hutrian News Network, we hope you enjoyed this broadcast, good luck, and goodnight."

(OOC: hey... that didn't look too bad, maybe I shoulda put that on the thread...)

Launda
Leader Milo paced, less than a week ago, his best friend just tried to kill him, and in turn, had been killed, and he didn't even know why.

It was only thanks to the quick acting of Officer Donnovan that he was still alive, yet he never really trusted the man, he was obliged by custom and necesaty to fill they void that had been created.

And he didn't even want to know what Mendez was up to.
Normally Mendez was kept in check by Gumbal and his men, but now, with him gone, and some nobody in control of what Milo had to finally realize, was controling everything.

He knew his hard won government was crumbling, and that, someday, someone would try and take it from him. But he just couldn't figure out who his real enemies were.

Mendez was heard pounding at the door, asking yet again for more funding so that he could "teach the Five Pointers a lesson", but Milo knew he had nothing left to give, the budget having been bankrupted over a year ago, the nation was in debt, his country was a mess, but at least the people kept their calm. Until now at least.

Milo opened the door, and Mendez carted himself and his wheelchair into the office. Milo had some questions to ask Mendez anyways, such as how he planned to balane the budget this year.

And Mendez gave his answer...

Milo: "Slave labor! In my country!? Are you insane? The administration barely has the resources to provide for your mercenaries, let alone enslaving nearly half the nation."

Mendez: "Sir, I believe it is well past the time to allow our moralsd to hinder our actions any further, as you said, you are nearly bankrupt, the insignificant lump of land nobody wants anymore, what is the worst the world can do? Glass us? Please, they don't have the balls to start WW3 on this piece of trash, once we get this mess cleaned up, then we can talk of ethics and the budget in one sentance, but not now."

Milo: "And if I refuse to grant you permission to do this?"

Mendez: "You can't, you already declared martail law, and as the head of domestic security, I'd suggest you keep a fair tone or I'll have you shot for treason."

Milo sighed in silent resignation: "Very well, do what you must, I suppose there are other matters I must attend to."

Mendez: "Yes, you do."

Windhoek
Mendez had ordered the HOI mercenaries (who also functioned as the nation's National gaurd) that none of the foriegn ambasadors go outside, for their own safety of course, and also had patrols run through the town with ever increasing frequency to maintain order.

The city had become a Corprate police state under martial law, controled by a madman.

The news was censored, in fact, the entire city was in a media blackout, Patrick O'Connel's HNN newscasts ceased entirely, and abruptly, and was promptly attributed to a broken radio tower. As for the lack of newspapers, the mercenaries explained that the street were no longer safe, and thus, the paperboy could no longer deliver mail.

At night, the city became a ghost town, occasionally punctuated by muffled shouts and screams, the breaking down of doors, and occassional gunfire.

Each morning, a new body could be seen hanging from a lamp-post, either what appeared to be a civillian or a HOI mercenary. Each had signs around their necks proclaiming their death was in retribution to a previous death.

As a well educated man, Livingstone could recognize that there was a patern in these deaths, and that the mercenaries cared not whether their victims were true terrorists or not. He also knew that talking about the dead would only bring him a world of hurt.

Livingstone never liked fighting, or the idea of killing others, in pure self defense, maybe. He had studied past conflcts well, and with great interest, at least until he went through 'basic training' with some HOI mercenaries, in wich case, they would drag you out of town, blindfolded, in the back of a truck, then offloaded, told a direction to run, and then to immediately do so as they chased you from the back of the truck, veering 'off course' which was out of the way of the truck's path, resualted in being fired upon and a search and destroy mission until they either found you or grew tired of looking for you, in the latter case, they'd return to the city and fetch a new 'recruit'.

Such was the life of being a racial minority, an immigrant, even more so if you had an education, and held a steady job, but no wife. As a man's success was measured by how many wives they had accumalated, the HOI mercenaries made sure he would forever have none.

True, he hated these men, but he was a teacher, the nation's future depended on his teachings, and he was teaching, restraint, self-discipline, tolerance, and non-violence through his more unorthadox teachings at the local university. Essentally, undoing the 'programming' that the public loudspeakers have been filling their minds with for 20 years. And most of all, that there was perhaps, a better way.

The Hurtian Civil Liberties Association had, originally, been his idea, so it was no surprise when the HOI troopers busted down his door, shouting for him to get up, followed by a spray of gunfire when they saw he was practicing 'non-violent resistance', he saw this, all of it, from across the street, and so too, did a small camcorder. They had just filled a homeless person he had invited into his house with about a kilogram of lead, and from the sounds of it, he slept on the floor beside the bed, as it took some time for them to find him.

Later, as the troops left his home, he thought he saw a glint from another nearby window, followed by shouting that drew his attention to HOI mercenary, who nly moments ago had been laughing and joking, was now nothing but a pulp of blood and bone. Horrified, he stopped filming and crawled into a corner for the night. At least they wouldn't be looking for him anymore...

New Roanoke Island, Welvis Bay
Donnovan looked over the paperwork glumly, his weapons programs, every one of them, showed great promise, but he just couldn't come up with the funding to produce them, let alone maintain his existing military. He also remembered an offer his oldtime friend in HOI gave.

Slave labor, true, it would get him the weapons and manpower, but it wouldn't be under his control, but that of Mendez, making him a prominent threat. He also knew who Gumbal's true intended victim was, it was supposed to be himself, Mendez's liitle stoge, but being a political nobody, the media messed up, and assumed it was the man next to him, Milo, and thus, and act of cowardly self defense became an act of extreme heroism.

True, he knew Mendez had to be stopped, but he also didn't want to die. It wasn't his fault that Mendez managesd to convince Gumbal that Donnovan was the true 'puppetmaster', it served him right to be fooled so easily.

Evale
Grant's men, otherwise known as the 'Five Pointers', had been long gone, still, HOI mercenaties were swift in retaliation, leveling the whole city, and turning it into a fortified 'Joycamp'. One of Mendez's great ideas of creating a fortified roadblock against terrorists, and providing cheap labor for the country. The border of the new 'town' was covered in barbed wire, land mines, machne gun nests, towers, and pillboxes. It was to become a new munitions factory, their current job of creating new applaquie armor for their tanks, and a new intermediate round to replace the 7.62x39 M43, and developing a new CQB weapon, various rifle grenades and portable mortars.

Mass graves were already dug for those expected to die.

Bukavu
Like Windhoek, was under tight security, not against violence, but for media leakage. A wall had already been constructed along the border, reffered to as "The Great Motte" in refferance to a ditch around a castle, a 'kill zone' against invaders, except this one worked both ways, the perimiter featured cameras, every so often, a few HOI mercenaries would wtch a collection of videos of failed attempts to cross the border, and call it "Who wants to be an immigrant?". If one succeeded, they made sure to get a still image of the man's face, and then went about tracking him down for one reason or another, then releasing him some distance from safety, then hunting him for fun. Each border patrolman kept a tally of how many failed 'contestants' they recieved. It was all fun and games to them...

Until one day...
Someone had apparently not locked up the T-55s today, as some Orange Cultists overran border posts under the treads of a squadron's worth of tanks.

Luckily, the Cultist had absolutely no idea what they were doing, as they each broached themselves on a tank trap, allowing some Hurtian sappers to finish off those who chose to hide within the old tanks.

They wer then instructed to send the smoldering brutes to Evale for repairs, rather than outsourcing to Rwanda.

Kindu
Grant was furious.

His new Orange Cult 'allies' completely failed to hold up their end of the deal.

However, the new 'HCLM' to the south would be a very promising ally, better than the OC, but there was distressing news of a new "heavy roadblock" set up in Evale.

They would have to get past that roadblock with an agent, and contact the HLCM to co-ordnate their activities.

Knowing not to stay in one place, ever, he and his followers left the Orange cult inh Kindu.
---
Meanwhile, the Orange Cult celebrated their 'great victory' in taking Kindu, although it was quite short lived, as Hurtian Army Air Force tactical bombers leveled what remained.

Their leaders surmised that the Five Points were actually Donnovan's "secret army" and had sabatoged their operations. As such, they vowed to get their revenge.

Bloody hell.

HT, as my neighbour and ally, you have my full support.

But I didn't really understand much...who are the 'good guys' that I back up?

I suppose the intro thread has you (the average audiance) sufficiently baffled.
As with my 'mainstream' nation, there is no 'good' or 'bad', just idealists and realists.

In Earth: Survival, I've merely destabalised everything in my nation to the point of being on a hair trigger, then pulled it.
