Yet Another Political Essay [Not A Ripoff, All Comments Welcome]

OOC: I’ve had an idea to write something like this for a while, but I can’t deny the decision to finally do it was influenced by Kampfers’ thread. Credit where credit is due. I assure everyone, however, that this is not a shameless ripoff, I have had plans to write this for months. But I figured I may as well post it now before it goes out of date anyway.

IC:

The following essay has been circulated among the Imperial Inner Court, the most powerful of the Empire’s social elite. It has no title, and has been referred to informally as simply “the Enigma Papers”. It appeared mysteriously, in the form of copies being discovered in the bedchambers of each and every member of the Inner Court; it is now being studied intensively, and many of its points reflect the opinion of the Imperium: a dangerous similarity, as it has also been leaked onto the Internet. As it used a Kregaian server, when it was censored minutes later it could not be viewed from another country, but the information has been leaked and there is no way to take it back. It is believed that the intelligentsia of other countries now have access to the entirety of the Enigma Papers.

The following excerpts from the Enigma Papers are of particular interest to the Imperium.

The Sovereign League is not an alliance with a bright future. This is a bold statement to make, especially concerning as it does an alliance that once stood among the most powerful in the world. However, the various powerful states that compose it have very different ideas about how it should function; they are an array of republics, constitutional monarchies, and kingdoms that are all fiercely nationalistic. They are pulled in different directions and thus they cannot survive as a coherent entity; if they do endure, it will not be as a unified alliance that acts with one will, but as a gaggle of powers whose membership has no influence whatsoever on their policies.

One must feel a degree of pity for those states which have selected communism as their economic policy of choice. It is not a functional system in the best of circumstances, let alone in the ‘real world’: the most powerful states in the world are all capitalist (save for the totalitarian economy of Automagfreek), and many of those have vowed to destroy communism entirely. Communism is the choice of the radical, young nations; they are idealistic and foolish at first, but as they go on, they realize that this ideology brings them rejection and hate. They cannot buy capitalist products (and it is capitalist countries like the Empire of the Golden Throne, the Imperium Doomanum, and the Questarian Empire which produce the best manufactured goods), they cannot ally with the powerful capitalist nations of the world and are thus forced to rely on similarly small, weak allies…for any number of reasons, the communist ‘threat’ is not a threat at all, merely a piece of foolery that most governments would be unwise to waste resources eliminating.

There are two wars in the world that will have a profound effect on the world: that between the Gholgoth-aligned powers and the Questers-aligned powers, and that between Doomingsland and the powers arrayed against it. The first war, which we will designate as the Great Havenite War, is the culmination of the trend of politics that has been going on for years. After APOC crumbled, the CAD was marginalized more and more, and recognizing the trend of diminishing CAD power, most of the remaining powers there joined Gholgoth. Doomingsland and the Kregaian Imperium are the only powers remaining active in the CAD, and they are not enough to make the alliance a true power. Therefore, the world is dominated by the allies of either Questers or Automagfreek, the ‘flagship nations’ for their respective axes. They are of roughly equal strength, and it will be an apocalyptically bloody fight; the winners, however, will inherit the earth, being the only super-alliance left. My personal suspicion is that whichever side can control the seas will win, and that is likely to be the Questarian Commonwealth; however, the forces of Gholgoth are probably the better fighters overall, and so it is indeed practically impossible to predict the outcome.

The second war we will designate as the Anti-Doomani War, and a political principle hangs in the balance of the war, that being the idea that nations with blatant human rights violations can be brought to task by more ethical neighbors. As far as the war between Automagfreek and Doomingsland goes, my bet is on the Imperium Doomanum; they are in familiar territory, they have taken far fewer losses than the media makes it seem, and have massive terrain advantages, not to mention a much easier time with logistics. Now, assuming that Doomingsland does win, they face the incredibly well-fortified islands around Freudotopia, backed up by Allanea and Generia (to name but a few). This is a considerably more even fight; Doomingsland would have to throw all it had at these defenses to have a chance of breaking them, as the defenders have poured an astonishing amount of materiel into the area. We should be remarking, though, not that it is incredible that these nations have equaled Doomingsland but that Doomingsland has equaled these nations; Generia has the largest army in the world, and Allanea is another very powerful nation. If Doomingsland loses either of these wars, the principle of the self-policing world will be affirmed, and one of the nations that will have to worry the most is the Kregaian Imperium, given its countless human rights violations, most notably the massacres committed in the Czardaian War.

There is a trend now in the world, mostly ignored by the larger nations, of the exploitation of young, oil-rich nations by corporations like Griffincrest. This, however, is not a good idea. If Griffincrest continues to throw its weight around, it will draw attention that it will not survive; assuming it does not simply encounter a more powerful corporation that wants the same oil fields, for example, We Buy It, Inc. or the Kraven Corporation. This fascination with oil does not seem to make much sense; the world supply of oil is limited, and if Griffincrest achieves a monopoly or anything close to it, prices will skyrocket. Better for oil-driven nations that do not want to suffer economic chaos to simply explore alternate fuels; one of the few good things that can be said about the Kregaian Imperium, for instance, is that all its power comes from nuclear or solar plants, and gasoline is being replaced by hydrogen as the fuel of cars.

To summarize, the course of events from here on out is difficult to predict. Either the Questarian Commonwealth or Gholgoth will triumph in the Great Havenite War, of course; the victor will be damaged, but not so much that they cannot exercise new influence over the rest of the world. Largely neutral and self-interested entities such as the New Prussian Empire and Corporate Alliance will continue as they always have, emerging from obscurity to pursue their own interests; conflict will only arise if and when they attempt to challenge a stronger power, such as the new super-alliance. Either Doomingsland or the anti-Doomani league will win the Anti-Doomani War; if Doomingsland wins, it will continue to influence politics, and will either ally with a victorious Questarian Commonwealth or create its own bloc, if not both. If Doomingsland loses, it will spend considerable time recovering while the world enjoys a time of relative peace. However, regardless of which bloc ends up ruling the world, time will pass, but eventually a new bloc will rise up to challenge it, and so the cycle begins again.

OOC: nice work. Thanks for the credit too. But a very good essay.
