Zintharia

As the assorted reporters settled into their seats, two Spetsnaz Airborne honor guards walked into the room and called everyone to their feet as Major Mikhail Lonieda, the Marshal of the USSZ, entered the room, wearing the OD green dress uniform that the People’s Army of Zintharia wore.
As he approached the podium, behind which was the flag of the USSZ, he adjusted his tie and ran his hand through his hair. He then stood behind the podium.
“Please, take your seats.”
He shuffled some papers on the podium, and then looked up into the camera and the patient faces of the reporters.
“I would like to thank you all for coming to my first speech as Marshal of the USSZ. Before I begin, I would like to remind you all that without the workings of Marx, Engels, and Lenin, that none of us would be here or doing any of this.”
“It’s been four years since the unification of the 12 nations under the banner of the USSZ in 2E0001, and for four years my friend Comrade Cole has led this nation exceptionally, blending diplomacy with the use of force. There’s no need for me to remind you of our aid in the Tatom Communist War, and our continuing aid to Socialist uprisings in the Holy Empire of Verenburg and to our Comrades fighting Imperialist oppression in Tartarystan. While aiding our Comrades in their overthrow of Capitalist governments is a vital part of our foreign policy, it shouldn’t dictate our entire policy towards foreign nations. It is with a concerned mind that I view the recent calls for increased military spending by members of the Militarist Party of Zintharia, and it distresses me that in a nation of 121 million loyal citizens, 10 million are trained to kill for the state. This is disturbing considering the fact that only 500,000 are active duty soldiers, while the remaining 9 ½ million are allowed to do what they want. I ask the Zintharian Nation, why? Why do we need to have 10 million men in our army when we don’t actually have need for them? The conflicts in Tartarystan and Verenburg are indicative of the uselessness of most of our army. Let me share some facts with you.”
“In Verenburg, we currently have only100 men in the country to aid our allies. In Tartarystan, we have 20,000 troops fighting Imperialist forces. Why is it that when we only have need for around 20,000 troops at one time, that we have more than 10 million overall? The USSZ knows the answer, but refuses to accept it as truth. In essence, our Comrades in the Militarist Party and the former Marshal are simply attempting to show off instead of really doing anything to quickly resolve these issues. This is detestable. If all we ever do is try to scare off the Capitalist nations of the world and never actually do anything, that is simply a waste of manpower!”
“That being said, in my predecessor’s last days in office, he grudgingly accepted my pleas to open up embassies in foreign nations, but not without giving me hell for it. All of the diplomatic actions taken by the USSZ in my predecessor’s reign were due to my hard work and dedication. Seeing that diplomacy is worth more than destruction, I am planning to continue my campaign of opening embassies in foreign nations and increasing diplomatic agreements with all nations of the world.”
“Well, now that we all know how I plan to run this nation, I guess that all we can do now is wait and see.”
“I will know be opening the floor to questions from reporters, both foreign and Zintharian.”
