With the failure of the African Union (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_Union) to gain consensus on forming the proposed 'United States of Africa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_of_Africa)', Equatorial Guinea (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equatorial_Guinea), Gabon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabon) and the Republic of the Congo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_the_Congo) joined hands in 2007 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007) to create a small regional alliance which they dubbed the Union of the Guinean Gulf.
