The Dominion

Dominion Gamma

Several millenia ago, a race of shapeshifters explored the galaxy. They were peaceful inhabitants of the Gamma Quadrant and sought to learn and expand their knowledge.

Many cultures shared a fear of these beings they called "changelings." They didn't trust them and feared that they could use their power to take control of their societies. In an ill-minded effort of self preservation, the inhabitants of hundreds of planets persecuted the peaceful lifeforms.

With a constant threat from those whom they called the "solids," the shapeshifters congregated on a single rogue planet within the Gamma Quadrant's Omarion Nebula. Interference from the nebula prevented most ships from entering the planet.

The shapeshifters all linked in what would forever be called The Great Link. They shared their wisdom and realized violent persecution was the general response from the solids to their ability. The shapeshifters thereafter decided to take the name changeling, which was used by solids with disgust, as their new name.

It was also decided that the changelings would have to create order and rule the galaxy. Disorder among the solids meant persecution, but if they could control solids and create order out of disorder, they would be safe. One founder put it simply when saying, "what you control can't hurt you."

It was with this goal that all the changelings banded together on their rogue planet and joined with a new goal. They would need to have solids under their control to keep order among the solids. Sure the rule would be harsh and oppresive, but one changeling reasoned that, "the solids have always been a threat to us, that's the only justification we need."

While visiting one planet, solids sought out to attack a group of changelings. A species known as the Vorta protected the changelings from other species on their planet. When the changelings finally left, the Vorta were promised that they would control a vast empire in reward.

Centuries later, the changelings returned and made good on their promise. They genetically engineered the ape like creatures into humanoids with enhanced intelligence. They were to be diplomats, field commanders, and scientists in the changelings' empire.

The Vorta and changelings took over several uninhabited planets and began work on a new species to be their soldiers. The Vorta didn't need anything to keep them loyal. They were given leadership positions and felt indebted to the changelings, whom they referred to as the Founders. They would gladly die to save the life of a Founder.

With the help of the Vorta, a powerful species of warriors was developed. They would be known as the Jem'Hadar. They were strong beings who could operate starships, advanced weaponry, and fight in hand to hand combat. They were also genetically imprinted to be loyal to the Founders and obey the orders of their Vorta commanders.

Loyalty from the Jem'Hadar wasn't a guarantee. Because of this, they were engineered to not require food, water, or sleep. They were missing a key enzyme, which could only be created by specially trained Vorta. This enxyme would be administered via a tube in the form of a white liquid drug known as Ketracel-White.

The White was controlled by the Founders and Vorta. Its use ensured the loyalty and obediance of the Jem'Hadar to the Founders.

The Founders created a new empire known as the Dominion and began conquering planets and installed Vorta overseers with Jem'Hadar soldiers to maintain order.

The Founders used the Dominion to create order on thousands of worlds. If a race fought against the Jem'Hadar, they would be exterminated through various means. Sometimes the Jem'Hadar would do it or sometimes a biological weapon would be used to exterminate a population. People learned quickly to never go against the Dominion. They hadn't lost a war in over 2000 years of existance.

Live Long and Prosper, man.

You've gotta admit, the DOminion makes a far more interesting story than the Klingon Empire.
