A Letter of Protest (Attn: British Londinium)

Sorry BL if I'm interrupting something. I always wanted to use my diplomatic muscles. Special thanks to Hamptonshire for assisting me in the writing of this.

Official Letter of Protest from the Foreign Ministry of the Most Serene Imperium of Izistan to the Rt Hon. Cecilia Belladini of the The People's Sovereign Republic of British Londinium.

We, the Most Serene Imperium of Izistan, do condemn in the strongest possible terms the arming of the Skywatcher platform as noted here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=12908840). The intended purpose of the platform, while not of concern to Izistani interests, is hereby noted for excessive debris production. This adds to the potential production of a Kessler Syndrome (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kessler_Syndrome)-esqe situation. Therefore we call upon the People's Sovereign Republic to decommission the platform by introducing it into a decaying orbit by means of an orbital tug, which can be supplied by Izistan or a third party. The Imperium will then assist British Londinium in the development of a safer anti-satellite system, with less potential for Kessler style after effects. Failure to decommission the offending platform within a reasonable time frame will necessitate action (political, economic, and/or military) on the part of the Imperium. Response to this note is preferred within forty-eight hours.

Sincerely yours,
The Rt Hon. Daniel Fleming, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Acting on behalf of Imperator Zedlacher I, High Protector of Central Haven and Scourge of the non-Havenic.

We of the United States of Allanea would like to note the horrible hypocrisy of the above statement. Apparently, by the Izistani, British Londinium may not arm itself, but Izistan arming evil regimes such as Doomingslandi one, that's A-OK. Weirdos.

We wish to point out to the United States; sentance five of our letter which reads:
The Imperium will then assist British Londinium in the development of a safer anti-satellite system, with less potential for Kessler style after effects.
Therefore we feel we have no choice but to offer the United States: the complete box set of Hooked on Phonics; even though it tears our hearts to do such a thing. It will arrive by air mail within the week.

Unfortunately yours,

The Rt Hon. Daniel Fleming, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Reply to Izistani Letter of Complaint:

Your concerns have been noted. Mind you, our 'scorched space' policy is a last choice policy. Outside of a direct attack on this nation, I see no reason to have to utilize the Skywatcher weapons platform. Indeed, the risk of destroying all space exploration serves as an even greater deterrent. We will not, under any circumstance, relinquish our defences in the least.

Sincerely,
Cecilia Belladini

The Imperium does not deny that other nations have a right to self-defense, unlike some commentators seem to suggest. We would not bat an eye at a Londinium ASAT deployment, but we do become concerned when the weapon in question affects us and other parties. We strongly feel that the weapons effect is tremendous overkill. An orbital cascade would destroy, or seriously damage any stations in its path, and possibly cut off lunar traffic. Noting that you have both a large orbital installation and a lunar facility, we wish to know if you would condemn those on board to death in the event of a conventional attack upon your nation. We also wish to make it apparent that we are more moderate in our response to this situation then we believe some would be. The general attitude among these nations is to shoot first, but we feel it prudent to ask politely. At any rate we are still offering the co-development of a saner ASAT system. Our demands still stand however.
Sincerely yours,
The Rt Hon. Daniel Fleming, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Official Communiqué

To the Rt Hon. Daniel Fleming:

I sympathize with your nation's stance, and I realize the excess that the Skywatcher defence platform represents. I, for one, wish that Skywatcher was not a necessary component of the People's Sovereign Armed Forces.

However, Mr Fleming, it is necessary. Whilst your country is a reasonable one, there are far too many other nations in existence that would like nothing more than to grind us into dust and exterminate every man, woman, and child within our borders.

To put it simply, we cannot, and will not, eliminate one of our most powerful weapons.

Sincerely,
