Skynet SAM Unveiled To The Public

Throughout the many operations that the Griffincrest Corporation has undertaken throughout its time in the world, one of the most troublesome problems facing our mercenaries has always been massive swarms of enemy fighters and bombers, almost always able to overwhelm the Aerial Security Forces of the Corporation if not through tactics than through sheer numbers. In response to this, Griffincrest commanders have been in a perpetual search for faster, more accurate, and longer ranged missiles. So, together with Spizanian researchers and a handful of advisors from Willink, the new Skynet missile was formed.

Warhead

The Skynet's warhead is the most important part of the entire missile, and is also from where the weapon takes its name. Seconds from impact, at 3 kilometers away from a wing of enemy fighters, the warhead opens to fire hundreds of tungsten darts that would fire and spread out over a large area, ensuring a maximum killing field. Each Tungsten dart would also carry about 45 grams of PETN explosive to ensure that each dart inflicts maximum damage on the enemy aircraft.

Propulsion

The propulsion for the Skynet is a two step system, which allows the Skynet to reach a maximum speed of Mach 10 before final missile detachment, which brings thw weapon to Mach 3 once again, before releasing the darts. The system begins with a Griffincrest Mark V solid fuel rocket booster to bring the missile screaming to Mach 3, followed by a booster/scramjet that gives the added range and speed boost to a final speed of Mach 10.

Range: 220 kilometers
Warhead: Eight hundred Tungsten darts
Guidance: Semi-Active RADAR/LIDAR
Speed: Maximum velocity is Mach 10
Coverage: 400 square meters

OOC: Thanks Spiz and Willink

Not a horrid design come to think of it...

Except when against a single tiny airplane, such as a UAV armed with cluster bombs (using many short range submunitions to counter the more accurate but limited CIWS while keeping the package small to prevent long range interception).

*kisses recently acquired DMG's RQ-10s

But it would work great against missile and bomber spamfests, and may find use as an MLRS.

And when one cpnsiders the absurdity of it all, only a complete loony would expect a single fighter to really do any damage.

...

That or one really paranoid person.

Thankfully, my generals are loony, and yours are paranoid.

At least when it comes to threatening to kill Griffencrest.
I wonder if he ever gets predictable....

Over half of a second after guidance ends before impact...
(Must figure in aircraft at about Mach 2 or 3, then air resistance...)

OOC: so this is a flak missile, but each peice of flak is explosive. Damn, I should have thought of that.

OOC: I already have missiles, similar to this flak design, good for taking out enemy missile spam at my planes.

We would like to acquire production rights for the Skynet SAM so that we can adapt it to other platforms.

Since you are a CA member, we will give you the rights free of charge. However, in return we will keep a division of men in Akimonad to help train your men how to properly use them and such.

That'd be fine.

Won't work, there is a reason FAEs are parachute retarded. or go slow.

Also, this won't really work, the plan could simply pull up and get away from the missile, especially at 30km. Which with cloasing speed of mach 13 [mach 10 missile heading at mach 3 plane], still gives about 6-7 seconds of reaction time after missle detonation.

It also has one fatal weakness.

OOC- why the hell does a corporation have a military bigger than mine?

OOC: It shouldn't surprise you that much. Most oil companies have *security* forces better trained and equiped than most devolping contries.

We would like to acquire production rights for the Skynet SAM, so that we can manufacture it as our standard SAM.

Cuborg would like very much to purchase two dozen Skynet missiles and one launcher. What are the prices for the purchase of these weapons?

OOC: TG me should you choose to close the deal.

About the explosive: Not necessarily such a great idea. The energy contained in the dart at such speed is greater than in the explosive. Collision velocities lead to disintegration anyway.
