AV-28 Wraith ESTOVL Attack Aircraft
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v293/grunt74/NS1/AV28Wraith151.png
The AV-28 is an all new attack aircraft which is capable of Extremely Short Take-Off and Vertical Landing. It was designed to replace the aging A-4X Skyhawk II and AV-8B Harrier II aircraft in the Navy and Marine Corps of The Phoenix Milita. It is has been available for export for a short time now, but it has entered full scale production only recently, and is for the first time available for large-scale purchases.
The Wraith features state of the art weapons systems and avionics, including terrain avoidance and terrain following radar. The crew compartment is heavily armored for survivability and the AV-28 features an all new ejection system and the most modern countermeasures available. It is a two seat, two engine combat aircraft capable of extremely short take off and vertical landing(ESTOVL). It features an ample weapons bay, with room for up to (6) Maverick missiles, (12) Rockeye cluster bombs, (4) 1,000lb JDAM Bombs, (2) MK84 2,000lb "dumb" bombs or (2) GBU-LGB 2,000lb laser-guided bombs. It also can carry additional weapons on its wings. The innermost four hardpoints can support Mavericks, Rockeyes, small bombs or hydra rocket packs. They can also carry packs of two AIM-92 Stinger or [AIM]SA-29 missiles (for the anti-helicopter role) or a single AIM-120 AMRAAM (for anti-fighter). The outer two wing pylons can hold two AIM-9X Sidewinders or AIM-132 ASRAAMs (for the general anti-aircraft role and self-defense). Despite its large weapons bay and numerous wing pylons, the centerpiece of the Wraith's armament is its specially designed, 30mm, three barreled, semi-retractable, combination rotary cannon. Once the cannon is extended, it can pivot downward a total 15 degrees, left or right 9 degrees and up 2 degrees. This allows for pinpoint targeting of both ground and air targets, even while the aircraft is moving and maneuvering quickly. When the cannon is extended, control is automatically given to the weapons system operator/gunner. If the crew so chooses it can be relinquished to the pilot but it is difficult to independently aim the cannon and fly the aircraft at the same time. This is not true however when the cannon retracts into the fuselage. Only one of the three barrels protrudes at this point and the weapon loses 98% of its pivoting ability. Retracting the cannon gives control to the pilot and reduces the thermal signature and radar cross section of the aircraft. It also make strafing and air-to-air engagements with the 30mm cannon easier for the pilot. A small fin retracts and extends with the cannon, making sure air vortices do not disrupt the thrust vectoring and handling of the aircraft.
The AV-28 is classified as an ESTOVL aircraft and as such it is extremely versatile. There are 2 small rotating ducts on the side of the middle of the aircraft which redirect a small amount of thrust for stability during takeoffs and landings. The rear engine ducts are capable of thrust vectoring(even with afterburners engaged), which not only allows for ESTOVL, but make the Wraith a very maneuverable aircraft. When only carrying weapons in it's bay the Wraith appears much smaller on radar than it actually is due to its shape and some other classified features. Also when carrying weapons only in the bay, and with a smaller than usual fuel load, the Wraith is capable of completely vertical take off, however it is preferred to launch the AV-28 Wraith on a short runway to allow for a maximum fuel and weapons load to be carried. After its mission is complete, and some fuel and/or ordnance have been expended it is able to land completely vertically. This makes it ideal for use by Naval/Marine forces since the safest way to land an aircraft on a ship is vertically.

The Kingdom of SaintB would like a demonstration of this plane's capabilities before we make any purchases, is this possible? We would like to know how well it performs in a dogfight, and in ground attack roles.

The Commonwealth of Nova Pictavia
Official Communiqué

We would like to personally vouch for the Wraith Attack jet, as it has been in service aboard our carrier groups since its creation. It is an extremely fine piece of engineering, capable of outmatching most other aircraft in its category today.

Consequently, we would like to take this opportunity to enquire about domestic production rights for this fine aircraft.

We are willing to release a small amount of never before seen combat footage of the AV-28 wraith flying missions over Zumorito during the 2006-2007 conflict to The Kingdom of SaintB. While not designed as a dogfighter, or even for the air-to-air role, the AV-28's thrust vectoring capability along with its wing design and configuration allow it to perform high G turns and simply breathtaking combat maneuvers. If the videos don't convince you, we are willing to send a pair of demonstration models along with their crews and dummy weapons(essentially rockets that shoot fireworks!) to your nation onboard a C-16B Super Pelican Cargo aircraft. Once they arrive they will take off vertically, perform supersonic maneuvers, launch their dummy weapons at targets in the water and then land vertically !!!

OPDF, Order confirmed.

Nova Pictavia, Domestic Production Rights are available, and the pricing is in line with previously stated policy. (on the main storefront)

OOC Note: While I have been selling this for a long time, I recently did a completely new 3d model and several renderings. I also expanded the description greatly.

TPM, No Endorse here. I've never really liked many of your designs for various reasons, but I must say I really like this one. TBH, you can actually increase your payload by a bit, the harrier II apparently has a 13klb payload o_O
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/av-8-specs.htm

The only thing I'm not a big fan of is the gun. Pivoting a 30mm really won't do anyone any good, it will only end in pain and D: Pivoting aircraft guns don't work really at all.

EDIT: Also, I don't think Mach 2.4 would be really possible, though I guess if you're sacrificing a good bit of payload you could go in the neighborhood of that. Cruise def is a waay too high tho, supercruise should be more Mach 1.2-ish for really any plane except the SR-71, for which it should be Mach-3.5 I'd personally do cruise Mach 0.8 and max around Mach 1.8-2, but whatever. Depends on Thrust.

OOC: Is it compatible with Warsaw Pact/Russian armament? Or can it be built to accept them? Also, would you be willing to sell DPRs? Or at the very least allow the avionics to be replaced by local ones?

Yes, nearly all Phoenix Dynamix products accept Warsaw Pact or NATO-style weapons in additon to Phoenix Dynamix organic armament. DPR are available for the standard rate (see main storefront post).

*Note: Mach 1.8 is the cruise speed, not the supercruise speed.

*Note2: Mach 2.4+ can only regularly be achieved when wing mounted weapons are not installed or have been expended, and when the gun is retracted into the body.

We are very Interested in your latest design; the AV-28 Wraith; however if possible we'd like some modifications done to the main design to fit our defence doctrine. Firstly we'd like to add a air-refuelling boom and probe in the nose to accommodate KC-135 and KC-126 Sea Tankers. Secondly we'd like to remove the pivoting feature of the main cannon to allow longer more stable bursts of fire at targets; this may remove some of the agility of the firing mechanism however we feel that the extra firepower is a worthy trade.

Secondly we'd like to make some enquires as to the maximum Net thrust of the engines and the maximum angle of attack the aircraft can achieve. Thirdly we'd like to know if the engines are capable of performing in very dry or desert environments in the vertical take off role; since this will primarily be used as a Close support aircraft. Lastly we'd like to know how many small diameter bombs the internal bay can carry. If you can answer these questions to our satisfaction and modify your design accordingly we would like to purchase Domestic Production rights; and a full Squadron of 35 Sample Aircraft for immediate training.

In-flight refuel capability is already present, but will be adapted to fit specific requirements.

The cannon and mounting system is modular and can easily be removed, modified or replaced.

The maximum angle of attack the aircraft achieved during testing was 45 degrees. As with all Phoenix Dynamix products the AV-28 underwent extensive desert testing in Death Valley and is rated to perform in arid and dusty environments.

The AV-28 Wraith's internal bay can accommodate the weight and bulk of aprox 14 GBU-39 Small Diameter Bombs.
