Kaeros

The rattle of automatic weapons fire that had echoed through the streets of Kellwood for the past weeks finally came at an end. The fighting was finally over, the radical leftist rebels of the Kaeros Liberation Army had been crushed beneath the armoured fury of Lord Marcus Aeris's Household Cavalry Battalion. The 36 tanks, backed by several thousand infantry soldiers, marched victoriously down the streets of the half million person city. As they made their way past the checkpoints that had once been manned by the KLA's police force they found bodies of the police officers, shot dead by private citizens who had managed to hide away their guns when the KLA banned them. Thousands of private citizens, armed either with guns they had owned and hidden away, or weapons taken from the dead KLA personnel, joined the column.
At last they arrived at the city center. Here, the last vestiges of the KLA remained, a handful of fighters, and their deputy leader. The body of the president, Johnathon Layton, could be seen sprawled out on the steps, his body riddled with holes. The KLA fighters dropped their weapons and surrendered peacefully. Lord Aeris, a member of the old aristocracy, walked up to the deputy KLA leader, Stephane Flatt, and spoke, "Mr. Flatt, your army has been crushed, your police killed off not by my men, but by the people themselves, your tyranny and so called 'democracy' is at an end. But I am a forgiving, and compassionate man, unconditional surrender, and your lives shall be spared, and those of your men who have not partaken in the worst atrocities shall be pardoned and allowed to return to the citizenry with a clean record."
"Then, as the new leader of the Kaeros Liberation Army, I hereby offer the unconditional surrender of all KLA forces. I cannot promise some of our members will not continue to fight, but those who remain loyal will abide by your conditions. You have won." The leader of the KLA extended his hand as he spoke, and Lord Aeris grasped it. The years of repreession and the subsequent civil war were at last over. The people could sleep peacefully once more.
*Three days later, coronation ceremony*
A million people, men, women, and children, waving flags and bearing banners that proudly proclaimed Lord Aeris' victory. A full one fifth of the country had turned out for the ceremony that would see the official end of the Republic of Kaeros and the creation of a new nation in its place.
"Citizens of Kaeros, a new age dawns for us and our glorious nation. For far too many years we have lived under the oppression of the Republic, for far to many years have we had our rights stripped away in the name of our 'safety', for far to many years has our industry become bloated, inefficient, propped up only by subsidies and for far to many years have our people become apathetic, dependent upon the government for the most of basic necessities. Today, that all changes, today we stand up for ourselves, as a nation, and as individuals. Today we take responsiblity for our lives and our future. Today, your days of fear come to an end. For no longer will the police and the army seek to rule over you, for today you will rule over them, starting today you will not serve the government, but we will serve you!"
The speech was greeted by the cheers of the jubilent crowd, and as the Lord spoke the new banner of Kaeros was raised. By the end of the ceremony, the Republic had become the Protectorate of Kaeros, ruled over by Protector Marcus Aeris and the elected members of the Advisory Council.
