Alex had the chance of a life time. To study abroad as a foreign student in Latin Byzantines. His older sister had gone to Kurona when she was his age. His first day at a new school new people new faces new country. "Hi, I'm Alex Jepson, I'm the new exchange student."

"Right this way." The principal led him to a class room, it was pretty roudy.
"Class I..." No one paid attention to the Principal. "Class..." She reached for the yard stick and slapped it on the desk. "I said CLASS!" Everyone fell silent. "Thank you."

Alex took his seat next to a young girl, about fourteen in age. She wore a autumn dress, had auburn hair and blue eyes. Her name was Flora, often called "The Venetian" because her family was from Venice and she spoke Venetian fluently.

Flora looked at Alex and smiled before looking back at the teacher, who was busy lecturing about some subject, as was the common thing for the teacher to do. Alex could see everyone working, including Flora.

Flora turned to see Alex coming to her. She smiled at him and spoke in her Italian (Venetian?) accent. "Yes, I know you are Alex, from Kanami. My name is Flora, it is nice to meet you." Flora gave Alex a smile. "Thank you, Alex. I would not mind you buying me lunch, I will meet you at lunch, as I have another class. See you soon." Flora then left, making sure she would not be late for her next class.

"Your nation sounds interesting, perhaps one day I will visit your nation." Flora said as she ate. "I heard about Kanami on the news, it looked like something was going on there."

"Well we have had two wars over the last while. And our capital was blown to bits by missles. But now we're resolving that. I heard we are going to become allies with our previouse enemy. And I think I heard your leader visted us and even got married to a Kanami woman"

"That is some interesting information." Flora said, listening to what Alex was saying. "I think I may have heard that story about our Prime Minister, but as for the others, I do not remember if I did. Also, I believe lunch is almost over, what is the next class again?"

Flora and Alex walk together to history class, where they listen to the teacher talk about national history. Flora and Alex sit next to each other, and he can see that Flora can write notes quite fast.

After walking for a while, they came to Flora's house, which was quite large. They went inside and Flora's mother came to Flora, speaking in Venetian, the language Flora used to reply.

"Mother, this is Alex."

"Thank you ma'am. It's a pleasure to be here. And Flora has been very nice and helpful on my first day."

Flora's mother smiled and uttered something in Venetian. "That is good to see that my daughter has helped you. Flora, why don't you show our guest his room?"

Flora nodded and took Alex to a medium sized and comfortable room, it had the basic additions. "This is your room, Alex. It is near a washroom also." Flora said.

Flora smiled at Alex. As they talked, Flora heard a familiar voice from downstairs. Her father and brother had come home. "Quick, Alex, let me show you the rest of the family."

When they came downstairs, Flora greeted her father and they embraced for a moment. She also took time to greet her brother. "This is Alex, he's our guest." Flora said to her brother (Marco) and her father.

"It is nice to meet you, Alex." Flora's father said. Marco, Flora's brother also greeted Alex. They talked for a while before Flora's mother called them all for dinner.

They were served authentic recipies from Italy (Venice?), including the famous spaghetti. Flora sat next to Alex as she ate with a dignifed style, she often ate like the daughter of a nobleman.

Flora's father looked at Alex and said:

"Alex, tell us about yourself and where you come from."

"Well I'm 14, born and raised in Kanami. My older sister did this when she was 14 she went to Kurona."

After school, John walked home, accompanied by several bullies, critizing Cazelia and it's war with BL, but they were gotten rid of. after he got home, he finished his homework, read his book, played a game of minesweeper on his computer, ate dinner and went to bed

Flora's father listened to Alex and ate some pasta before looking back at Alex.

"Perhaps Flora will go to another nation like you and your sister have one day." He said to Alex, Flora smiling a bit as he said it. Flora's mother went into the kitchen to prepare some more food for dinner, while Flora's brother was busy eating his spaghetti.

"Yeah it would be a great experience for her. I know it has been for me and my sister."

"Alex, perhaps I could go to Kanami one day." Flora said to Alex as she finished her meal. Soon, Flora's mother began to clear the table, and Flora called Alex over to her.

Flora escorted Alex to her room, which had a high definition television, excellent computer, some books and other things Flora had as her posessions. Flora also had the newest game consoles, she shared them with her brother.

Flora smiled at Alex and gave him a tour of her room. After a while, they were getting ready for bed. Flora had dressed in a simple purple colored nightgown and did not go to bed, but rather stayed up late. Alex could hear that she was.

It would be in a day or two that Alex would find himself with Flora in a situation they never expected.

The next school day came, and one of the teachers in Flora and Alex's class began to talk about a field trip, only this was not your ordinary field trip to a museum, it was a cruise to explore the oceans of Xanadou. Flora was interested in this cruise, she knew her parents could afford it, and Flora told Alex he would be able to come along too, with no problems.

The cruise began a couple of days later, parents saying goodbye to their children and vice versa. Flora and Alex boarded the cruise vessel and the vessel soon set sail through the oceans. They did not know that in some time, a great storm would arrive to wreak havoc.

"Wow I never would have gussed a school would do a thing like this." Alex said. Alex was already a skilled sailor. He loved to sail but he wished this was one of the Kuronan ships where everyone pitches in. His sister was on one of thoes ships and she mentioned how it was to move through the harsh stormy Xanadou Seas.

Flora was in bathing suite that only brought out her good looks more. Her already olive skin was growing slightly darker in the lovely sun.

"Flora, would you like to go for a swim in the pool?"

He loved to sail but he wished this was one of the Kuronan ships where everyone pitches in. His sister was on one of thoes ships and she mentioned how it was to move through the harsh stormy Xanadou Seas.

Flora smiled and nodded. She went into the nearby pool, her hand beckoning him over to her. There were not that much people in the pool at the moment, but there were some people who enjoyed the pool enough to be in it. Flora began to swim around the pool, warming up for later activities.

Captain Margaret was the captain of the ship, born into a long line of captains, sailors, admirals, etc. She took a drink of her green apple soda as she piloted the vessel. She was a hard working young woman, in school she focused primarily on academics.

One of her assistants came up to her and brought some news that Margaret did not like to hear. "A storm?" Margaret said as she looked at the report. "Hopefully we will be able to navigate through it."

Margaret became concerned about the news of a storm, because she knew the vessel had children on it, and she wanted to keep them safe. Margaret looked up to the sky, hoping that the storm would not come towards them but knew that she would have to work hard if it did come.

A little bit later Flora and Alex were just laying on deck chairs soaking up the rays.

"You know Flora this is fun and all it really is, but to be honest I wouldn't have minded a good old fassioned sailing trip. But hey you are what makes this really worth it." He could tell he was flirting. Maybe a bit badly.

"Well you know, you're so pretty and all. My grandmother has your same ancestry and I think she would call you the La principessa del ramo verde oliva The Princess of the Olive Branch."

A little bit later Flora and Alex were just laying on deck chairs soaking up the rays.

Flora stretched out on her deck chair and took a sip from her drink and then looked at Alex with a smile. She was having a good time...but it would be interrupted by a possible storm coming towards them.

"Yes as a matter of fact she was. Just a few miles out, she lived on an olive farm before moving to Kanami."

The ship was begining to rock slightly. Alex thought lied in his cabin not really concenred about the aproaching weather. He was still half-dressed but then he thought about Flora. She seemed a bit frightend when they parted. He hopped off his bed and went to her cabin, knocking on the door. "Flora, it's Alex. Can I come in?"

"Yeah sounds like we could be in for it. Or we could miss it I don't know. My own sister experienced one of the infamous Xanadou storms, only not on a ship like this. I'm talking old. No stabalizers no equipment nothing. She had to trim the sails and keep the weight off the mast. But they made it through a-okay. Even if the storm hits us we'll be all right." A tad foolishly naive of Alex to say but he was confident in such. After all this was a big boat. He looked out the port window at the increasingly darkening sea and sky.

Flora found a nearby liferaft and waited for Alex. When the order came to abandon ship, she would take the raft and use it to maintain her safety. Flora uttered some words as she looked at the lightning in the skies above her.

"It's pretty rough, maybe we should wait in the promenod, it's probably much safer!" Alex had to shout over the howling wind. "Watch out." He threw Flora the ground as a wave washed over them. It was one of the infamous Xanadou storms all right. "are you okay?"

Sitting up a bit after Alex threw her to the ground, Flora smiled. "I am alright, Alex." Flora got up and looked at the waves. She looked as the storm only seemed to get worse and worse.

"I am sure the captain and her crew will be sending us passengers another message soon." Flora said to Alex. Some concern was in that face of hers. She continued to watch the skies which bestowed them with massive amounts of rain, thunder and lightning.

The alarms were sounded to get everyone to their life boat stations. Alex and Flora had drifted a little farther around the deck as the ship listed rocked and rolled. Flora nearly went over the edge but was caught by Alex just in time. He pulled her up but couldn't keep his balance both fell into an undetatched lifeboat, which snapped from it's link cables and into the stormy seas.

The one thing that suddenly gave him relife is Xanadou was free of sharks. Waves were crashing well over them now. These boats were built to withstand it in this day and age but they could still sink beneath the waves. "Hold on tight!" All he could say.

"I am alright, Alex. The storm seems to have ended now." Flora said, looking around to see they were in the middle of nowhere. Flora grabbed her oar and began to continue paddling along, hoping that they would be alright.

It had been some time when the boat finally beached up. Alex hopped off and helped Flora over. "Looks like we beached up just in time." Dark clouds we're moving in looked like there was a chance of another storm. "We need to find some sort of shelter, maybe if we move further inland we'll find something stable."

"Alex, do you have anything to create some light?" Flora said to Alex. "I wonder where we are." Flora uttered.

"I wish I did but..." Alex fell silent as he rolled down into a small ravine. Flora slid down. "I'm okay, I'm....Flora, do you see what I see? I see light. Some sort of light."

Flora nodded. "I did see some light, but I do not know where it comes from." She tried to see if the light was still visible, and then looked at Alex. "Shall we go towards the light?"

"Better than nothing." A clap of thunder and flash of lighting as they moved out of the timber and into an open feiled. The building was clearer now as the light source a few lanterns haning. "Looks like we really lucked out."

They entered. "Hello?" The room was well lit but several oil lamps burning away. Alex rang a bell.

Out stepped Asuka a built up young teenage girl with quite the dress. It was Kurona after all. She spoke in an accented Kurma-German like tone. Maybe with a hint of Sweedish "Welcome to the Youth Hostel." Thunder rumbled. "Sounds like you both got here in time, storm is moving in quickly mate." She took a closer look at them. They seemed exausted and battered. But she never asked questions "Well I suppose you'll be wanting a room then." She opened up her guest book. Nearly emptey with. "Can I get your names please?"

"My name is Flora." Flora said to Asuka, her voice containing her Venetian-Italian accent. Flora looked around before looking at Alex. "Tell her your name." Flora said to him with a smile before looking back at Asuka. "We would like a room."

"Alex. If this is a hostel does that mean we will be sharing?"

"Yes, you'll share a room, otherwise I'll charge you extra. Follow me." Asuka took a lamp and guided them upstairs. Flashes of lightning breifley illumniated the dark hallways. "It's quiet tonight, been like that for a while now. I hope the storm won't bother you two either."

More thunder and lightning.

"Here you are, ja. If you need me you can come to the front desk I'll be there most of the night."

She turned a nob increasing the light of all the lamps on the ceeling. "I know i said it's quite but nextdoor are two girls staying. The bathroom is over there, it has a bath and shower. Well have a good night."

She shut the door quitely. A clap of thunder followed. The room was spacious with two seperate beds and a large window.

"Thanks." Alex watched as she left. He was rather nervouse about staying here. The word Hostel always brought up that horror film. "Not a bad room." Thunder crashed. "Oh I forgot to ask where we are, ah I'll do it in the morning."

Flora listened to everything Asuka told them before she left. Flora took a bed in the room and then looked at Alex. "This is a nice room." Flora said. She looked at Alex for a moment before she got off her bed to look around the room.

Alex looked out the window at the stormy skies. "Some night. Well I'll let you have first dibs on the bath."
