Judicial Branch Details

The Federation of Ambrose-Douglas employs a unique judiciary system, but one that our people endorse. Our Supreme Court is made up of nine [9] individuals. Four are appointed by the government, and five are elected by the people on a rotating basis every two years (each justice serves a ten year term, so there is a new, people-elected justice every two years). While justices elected by the people can serve multiple terms, those appointed by the government can only serve one, ten year term. However, after they are done with government service, the justices can be elected by the people, if they so choose. This Supreme Court reviews all decisions by the Senate and the Nation’s House (our legislatures), and those decisions made by President Ambrose. All court decisions at this level are final.

There are three other rungs of judicial support, before getting to the Supreme Court. The lowest level is our city courts. These are where all court cases start. There are three branches to each city court: civil, misdemeanor, and felony. All justices are elected by the people.

Above the city courts are our regional courts. There are ten of these courts, each with approximately the same number of citizens within it. They hear cases that have been appealed at the city court level. These justices are elected by the populace of their region.

The last rung before the Supreme Court is the Ambrosian Circuit Court and the Douglas Circuit Court. Each court has seven [7] justices on it and all are appointed by the President. If a case is appealed from a regional court in the realm of the Ambrosian Circuit Court, it would go to the Douglas Circuit Court, and vice versa. This is done to get fresh perspectives on each case, should they be regional in nature.

You can't use real military. It's against the rules of alternative earths. The military has to be different.

OOC: No it doesn't. As long as the country is your own, IE; Different then the countries it originally was, then you can use it's military. There is nothing wrong with that. Calling yourself the Fourth Reich and making mentions to WW2, would be wrong.

Coming straight from the "Rules Governing Alternative History Threads"...

"Summary: Using Real Earth geography is fine. Using the shape of Real Earth countries is fine. Using Real Earth populations is fine. Using the actual Real Earth countries (culture, history, et al), and thus essentially being a carbon copy of a Real Earth country, is not"

I consider that to include the nation's military, so that means it has to be different as well.

OOC: Well, considering your nation isn't a carbon copy of Panama and Columbia it really shouldn't matter. Besides, the rule is open to interpretation and seeing as how Kamp, the one who made the RP, stated that we are using the countries real-life miltiaries, we will.

And considering how Panama pretty much the protection of the US and doesn't even have it's own military, I think I have the liberty to expand it's military a little for my own protection.

Ambrose-Douglas

You seem to be missing the point (wow, just like EFJ, what a surprise.) Panama doesn't have a military. It was promised protection from the US. Want me to find what ships the US promised and use those? Because having a nation with no military is not fair.

Then I'll just find the ships the US navy devotes to Panama's protection and add those in.

In today's world, now more than ever, does a country require friends rather than enemies.

That in mind, we request permission to establish an embassy within your nation, and invite you to do the same. Land is currently available in London and Brussels for an embassy and consulate.

The Karlonian Canal

We have changed our minds about the canal. In fact, we would like to invest some money in it.

We would like to offer this deal:

The Union of Kopparbergs India invest $X billion in The Karlonian Canal. In exchange we will get full access to the canal, primarily for civilian vessels but also for military vessels (although not a pressing issue today). We will also assist you with the security around the canal, and in the future maybe a joint Indian-Ambrose-Douglas naval base can be built in close proximity to the canal.

Your nation will earn both money and security in this deal, and we will get full access to the canal. The question is only – how much is $X? I want to say that X equals four.

We are sorry to say that the deal offered from the Union of Kopparbergs-India has been denied. We cannot, in good conscience, allow military ships or material to pass through our territorial waters, so close to our civilian population centers. Therefore, the deal is rejected. We do hope, however, that something more suitable for both sides can be negotiated at the Karlonian Canal Conference.

The offer, while extremely intriguing, comes across to us as a little too generous. We are wondering what strings are attached to this astronomical sum. We are also hoping that this can be discussed at the Karlonian Canal Conference.

There are no strings attached. The Imperium and the Canadian Union are working together to better smaller nations in the Americas.
