Excerpt from Corinthian National News

Sales of the new Centro smart phone spiked in West Corinthian electronics markets in its opening week- selling approximately 9 million units. Most Corinthian electronics outlets sold out of the Centro within hours of opening.

With success, however, brings competition. Less expensive clones of the Centro, including one sponsored by the government, have flooded the market. While most of these clones can be dismissed as cheap knockoffs, the government edition boasts enhanced features and- arguably- higher quality. Because they are state-sponsored and locally manufactured, the government smart phones cost only $175-$325, almost half of the price of the Centro.

If the Centro wants to capture a competitive share of the Corinthian market, they'd better boost exports and increase advertising in West Corinthia's major cities. Corinthian consumers still holding out for the Centra hope that the competition from the government smart phone will drive down prices and spark interesting competition. Only time will tell whether the makers of the Centro are willing to battle for sales in West Corinthia.

Queenston has started major ad campaigns in the nation of West Corinthia, the a very contreversial as which features the following:

Several upper class children about age 14 are in a classroom, listening to their Centros, in various different colors, by their clothing/attitude it is obvious they are the social elite. Popular rock and other styles of music are heard throughout the room. They are partying and having a good time, until a lower class boy comes in, wielding a government Centro, it is battered and unattractive, and viewers interpret he is a "loser", per se, and the music abruptly stops. Then a screen comes on with the Centro in a good light and its logo flashes... "Centro- it's just cooler".

Other commercials feature quality tests (weilding superiority to the Centro), etc.

Import rates have grown and Queenston has lowered prices in West Corinthia 40 USD.

Following a vigorous ad campaign and a $40 price drop, the Centro has seen its first growth in sales since its debut, selling nearly 36 million units in the first quarter. The item's main competition in Corinthian markets comes from the government-sponsored "Echo."

However, several critics have accused the new Centro ad campaign of slander against the Echo.

*Centro commercial plays*

Surprisingly, the government chose not to censor the ads. Senator Servius Marius had this to say:

*cuts to pre-recorded conversation*

"Obviously the Centro commercials are slander. We could censor them if the Czar commanded us to, but we'd rather allow the public to form their own opinion on this issue. Perhaps they will see the commercials as malicious slander, perhaps not. Either way, the competition has been very healthy for our economy. We've seen renewed interest in the small electronics market, and it has resulted in new companies and factories springing up across the country. These drive prices down and quality up. It's a win-win situation."

*returns to news room*

There you have it, straight from the mouth of a Corinthian senator. The competition between the Echo and the Centro is driving down prices and pushing up quality. Before our next story, here is the new commercial released by the government to counter the Centro:

*cuts to Echo commercial*

The national anthem of West Corinthia is playing in the background. The commercial shows various clips; a lone farmer working in his field, a squad of special forces soldiers running around a crumbling city, and various other occupations. Finally it briefly shows the Czar of West Corinthia using an Echo, and his expression shows he is impressed.

The commercial then goes inside a large electronics chain store. A salesman is selling Echo's by the handful, and a large pile of unwanted Centro's sits in a dark corner behind him. The narrator speaks, "The Echo. Made in West Corinthia for people like you and me. With all the features of the Centro and almost half the price, it's the smart buy."

It now cuts to a waving Corinthian flag with an Echo suspended in front of it. The narrator finishes, "You are smart...aren't you?"

The Centro has begun ad campaigns in various countries, hoping to further spark seeds of interest.

Queenston has countered the Corinthian ad with the following, it has been criticized for using touchy elements in Corinthian culture:

Images of deciet in Corinthian culture flash: Atopians using Echos, well destroying homes of young civillians, Soviets using the phone, and saying, "These are the best, would WE lie to you?"

Then a screen flashes, and says: "Centro, buy today, and 50% texting and call discounts for a year!"

There has a public outcry regarding the newest ad campaign for the popular "Centro" smart phone. In what many people are calling "an exercise in poor taste," the commercial shows images of Atopians and Soviets using the government-sponsored "Echo" smart phone.

You will remember that it was the Atopians who committed acts of genocide during the First Corinthian Civil War. In response, the government has enacted censors onto the more despicable scenes of the commercial, however they have refrained from entirely pulling it. The government has, however, issued a warning to Queenston Electronics.

*cuts to pre-recorded interview*

"Hello, I am Livinia Septima, and I am here with praetor Maximus Faustus to discuss the new ad campaign for the Centro. Praetor?"

"Good evening Livinia. The makers of the Centro, Queenston Electronics, have crossed the line with their most recent commercial. Thousands died when the Atopians took advantage of our temporary weakness during the civil war. Queenston Electronics needs to be mindful that this country is a monarchy. If they continue down this road, the Centro may end up banned in West Corinthia."

*cuts back to newsroom*

Despite this most recent ad, the Centro continues to sell very well in Corinthian markets. Currently, about 49% of smart phone users own a Centro. 44% own an Echo, and the remaining 7% own one of the various cheaper clones or knockoffs.

And in other news...

Queenston's ads now feature a series of unbiased quality tests, including: a drop test, sound quality test, and virus protection, along with many other simulations wielding vast superiority to the slightly more-expensive Centro. Its "Aqua" function means it can even be slightly wet and still function properly.

Another commercial features non-offensive comedic elements, one features a dirty drunk looking man using an echo. Alexander Whitson walks in, talks on a Centro briefly, and looks at the man. He says, "Your village called. They want their idiot back." The screen flashes again to reveil a Centro, and the words "Proven superior in almost all categories to the Echo, and a whole lot cooler too". Ads have begun to be aimed at younger Corinthians.
