OOC: I would just like to point out to you that as a nation of 29 million whose politics fall under "Left-leaning college state", a military of 1 million is a bit unreasonable and unrealistic.

Personally, I have no problem with it and encourage you to play out your nation however you want. I do know that there are others on the forum who will make a bigger deal out of it though.

A more realistic number would be about 200 - 150 thousand. Perhaps lower depending on what your defense budget is. Once you start pushing into the 100 million citizens mark then it's easier to assume you have a larger military.

History

Ancient Prestonia
The land now known as Central Prestonia was first settled c.1000 B.C.E. by previously nomadic tribes. Archeologic records indicate that the majority of the tribes lived around the present-day Freedom River, as it was the main source of water and food for the region. These people were farmers, and built highly advanced city-states. One city-state, Zaxia, became the most powerful in the region, and in 127 C.E. conquered Prestonia, then known as Oakwood for it's oak forests. This was the first of many conquests of Zaxia, by know known as the Zaxian Empire. By 450 C.E. the whole of present-day Prestonia belonged to them.

The Sparks of Rebellion
For centuries the Prestonian colonists lived in harmony with the Zaxian Empire. The Zaxians treated them as citizens rather than enemies and the relationship was peaceful. However, in 1926 C.E., emperor Romulus IV ascended the throne and cracked down on the freedoms Oakwood had enjoyed. Under him the taxes were increased on vital supplies, in some cases up to 75%, and the Zaxian Army was sent to occupy the colony and press it's young men into service. In 1933, Romulus IV died under mysterious circumstances, most likely an assassination by either a jealous heir or a rebel. A series of weak rulers followed, and by 2002 C.E., the Prestonians had had enough. They broke into open rebellion that year, choosing Aaron H. Preston as their general and renaming themselves in his honor.

The Five-Year War
Under Preston, the colonists formed an organized army known as the Prestonian Resistance Army, or PRA. The PRA fought the Zaxians for five years, winning several important battles and stunning the experienced Zaxian Imperial Army. After five years, the Zaxians surrendered and the emperor, Brutus III, went into exile. After the victory, the Republic of Central Prestonia was founded and the capital, Hudson, built in the center of the country. Preston was elected President and the constitution written.

Present Day
Today, Central Prestonia is a large and prosperous nation. The armed forces recently went on a "spending spree" to bring themselves into the 21st century. This move troubled some pacifists, who feared an end to peace in the country. The military saw limited action in the Kampers-UF conflict. The first real test of the military came in Tatom however. The Prestonian government sent advisers to Tatom to train the rebels, but this quickly turned into full-fledged war with the Communist forces in the area. After heavy losses and the realization that the war was nearly unwinnable, the army was withdrawn. UFAN acceptance shortly followed, and under the wing of The Federation, the Prestonians have proven to be a force for human rights. This aggressive stance has attracted its share of enemies, however, particularly through strained relations with British Londinium.

Overview:
The Prestonian culture is one that borrows heavily from The Renaissance, Anicent Rome, and the U.S. Knowledge is very highly prized, and libraries are common in almost every town. The people enjoy the fine arts and science. Politics are highly prevalent in society, with everyone from middle school children to college students debating the latest action of the government. The people are for the most part open-minded and accepting of other cultures. It is common to see buildings designed in Baroque and Romanesque styles, as well as Greek. The concept of The Renaissance Man is practiced in Central Prestonia, with most schools taking a well-rounded, liberal arts approach. Freedoms are held dear, espically that of speech. The Prestonians love sports, with baseball, soccer, and rugby being the most popular. Martial arts are also becoming increasingly popular. The government is generally well-liked, with Pres. Preston having an almost mythical status, much to his dismay as he prefers to be "first among equals." However, there has been some criticism of the government lately due to the increased military budget. There is an increased military presence in daily life, and it is not uncommon to see a Humvee full of soldiers sitting next to you at a stoplight. The Homeland Defense Corps works like a normal 9-to-5 job, with soldiers usually choosing to live at home. Soldiers can commonly be spotted going about their business in town with their rilfes on them, although by law they must be slung on the shoulder with the barrel pointed down at all times.

Social Welfare

The people of Central Prestonia enjoy a great deal of social welfare. Healthcare has been socialized, and is now completely free. Citizens pay high taxes but do not mind as they constantly see their tax dollars at work, building civic centers, roads, and other important structures. With much of the tax money going into medical research, citizens are living long, an average of 85 years, although seeing someone push 100 is not uncommon. There is not much poverty, but citizens living in poverty have numerous government aid programs designed to help them. The nation of Central Prestonia has more charities than any nation in the region, and these charities are usually swelling with donations.

ViZion is preparing to send several teams to begin construction on five silos with Central Prestonia. We are also preparing some teams to be send to you to meet with their researchers and scientists to begin training them on the technology to build their own nuclear weapons. On top of that, we will be supplying you with the resources necessary to do so.

On top of that, we will be training selected people to learn how to run the silos, and we will arm the silos with two nuclear ICBM's each.

Thank you,

President Kilo

Outstanding. We will send them there. What is the closest seaport to send the crew and supplies to?

The nearest port is St. Andrew, we have a naval base there. We caution you however to signal ahead so we can escort you in, we're on high alert due to the tension with BL and we wouldn't want to have a friendly fire incident.
