"Where there is a sea there are pirates" - Unknown

The trading ship, Hope, was halfway through its journey and all seemed calm. The Captain stood on deck letting the sea spray hit him as it was refreshing and allowed him to escape the problems of the real world. Unluckily for him, those problems were about to hit hard. As the captain stood, he heard a dull thud in the distance and opened his eyes. Seocnds later there was a crash.

"We're being attacked!", yelled one of the crewmen, "By cannons!"

As the Captain rushed to his post the thought ran through his head, Cannons, in this day and age?. He had heard the stories from other sailors but didn't believe them. Tales told of a ship that sought out for the treasures of the sea and a crew so bloodthirsty that even the most experienced and toughest soldier would hide in terror when they approached. The Captain reached the bridge but not before more shots had been fired.

"Damage report!", he shouted. One of the crewmen quickly approached.

"Sir it is not good. They've knocked out our engines...We're sitting ducks now."

"Quick, get every man and woman armed with whatever we can to fight off the attackers." As the Captain spoke he looked through his binoculars at the ship he saw appraoching. He looked and his mouth widened. The ship he saw had red sails, and had the appearance of the wooden ships of old and among the sails flew a symbol that had brought fear to honest sailors for centuries, the Jolly Roger.

"Pirates?! There hasn't been any pirate activity in these waters for 30 years!"
As he spoke a more shots were fired and the ship had closed in so the pirates could now be seen. There was no warning as the first boarded and a fight ensued. However as soon as the fight had begun, it had ended. The crew and captain of Hope lay dead.

OOC 2: I'm leaving it open for anyone to find this ship, looted and the bodies left where they lay.

OOC: Here's a question: why wouldn't the pirates just be sailing a Fletcher Class?
