OOC: This thead is an extention of the "Downfall of Gens Romae Thread." That thread got overtly cluttered. So, the thread is going to be continuing here. This thread is closed soley to me and to the Maldorians. For a summary of my army, see here. (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=530833) The map I'll be using for coastal defenses and mainland battle is this one. (http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/europe/italy_rel96.jpg) I'll be using this (http://www.itlibitum.ru/MAP/EARTH/CONTINENT/EUROPE/MAP%20-%20EARTH%20-%20CONTINENT-%20EUROPE%20-%20www.itlibitum.ru%20-%20004.jpg) map for naval battles. As I said before, this thread is closed soley to the Maldorians and myself. If anyone wants to comment on the battle, do so in a seperate OOC thread.

IC:

A while back, the Empire of Rome has been ruthlessly and unprovokedly attacked by the people of Maldoria. The Maldorians sent in 10 submarines to attack an unsuspecting fleet. The 10 subs were, of course, defeated, but only at the cost of a few of Rome's ships.

Time has passed, and now the Maldorians are sending a fleet to invade the Roman mainland. The Imperator (Emporer) has therefore begun taking strategic steps to drive back the invaders, and to sustain the Roman Empire.

First and foremost, the entirety of the Roman Navy (minus the marines and the EH101s) has been stationed at the mouth of the Straight of Gibraltar, so as to maximize the strength of the Roman Navy against an otherwise superior fleet.

Meanwhile, the Imperator, expecting an invasion on Sardina, Corscia, and Sicily, had sent planes to ferry all of those living there to mainland, and had distributed them inside of the mainland Italian cities, leaving only a few groups of engineers in each.

In mainland Italia, bunkers had been built along the peaks of the mountain range in North Western Italia, bordering the Ligurian sea. Further down, near the shores, trenches and barbed wire fences had been erected to slow advancing infantry and vehicles (To be known as the Mountain Defense System (MDS)).

Further south, from Lucca to Salerno, a complex system of bunkers connected by concrete trenches had been built. Low concrete walls and barbed wire are interspersed along the coast (To be known as the Coastal Defense System (CDS)).

10 of the Coast Gaurd legions, along with 2000 Marines have been stationed in the MDS. 40 Coast Gaurd legions, along with 6000 Marines have been stationed in the CDS.

25 army legions have been stationed at Arezzo, and 25 at Terni.

All of the male heads of house of the country have been given M40's, instructed in use by army officers.

Atlantic Ocean
The 2 Carrier Battle Groups sent to the Strait of Gibraltar, now named The 1st Imperial Fleet, sped through the waters of the Atlantic Ocean towards the Gens Romaen blockade. This fleet’s mission was to break the blockade, opening up an entrance to Gens Romae, and that is just what they are going to do.

Somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea
A large number of Maldorian aircraft, bomber and fight alike, roared overhead directed to Sicily and Sardinia. These craft took off from an allied base in the Middle East a little while ago and were ready to fight for Maldorians.

“Captain. This is Tango 1 to Charlie Leader. Over. We have visual contact on Sicily. What are your orders? Over.” Spoke one of the many bomber escorts while gazing down at the beautiful ocean.

“Release your payloads over. Hit anything that looks important. Hopefully these guys evacuated their civilians, or not, then they are screwed.” Chuckled Charlie Leader.

The B-2 Spirit Bombers unleashed their wrath on the Sicilian government buildings, offices, and other points of interest marked on their targeting computers as the F-22 and F-16’s waited for the expected enemy planes.

In Sicily and Sardinia, things are relatively uneventful. Buildings crumble infrastructure is destroyed, and things explode...and yet very few people are there to witness it, except for engineers who lie safely in hiding. No planes, no soldiers, no ships come to their defense.

Rather, Rome lies in wait.

In Maldorians

The other two Carrier Battle Groups, now named the 2nd Imperial Fleet, along with a large group of Maldorian Marines, were soon going to begin their trek through the Suez Canal straight into Sicily. Their advance would not be stopped. The voyage would take a few weeks to get to Gens Romae.

In the airspace above Sicily

Nothing out of the ordinary happened in Sicily that day. Bombs would drop from the sky. The bombing would stop momentarilly and then bombs would once again drop from the sky. The B-2 Spirits began dropping GBU-28 bombs, a laser-guided bunker buster bomb. These bombs would tear through any kind of defense that the Roman engineers or remaining soldiers would try to use. The fighters, bored to their minds, opened fire on a few building with their vulcan cannons, hoping to get some Gens Romae soldiers or engineers.

In Sicily:

Nothing has changed for the attackers. Their bombs are being all but wasted as they use them against soft targets. The island may as well be all but dead. There is absolutely no activity there. There have been no human casualties thus far, and one of the cities has been completely trashed.

Meanwhile, the Imperator, having heard of the second fleet, redirects 15 submarines from the Straight of Gibraltar to the mouth of the Suez Canal, leaving them submerged, lying in wait.

At the straight of Gibraltar, there continues to be yet more lack of activity.

Somewhere over Algeria

200 C-47 Skytrains, escorted by F-22 Raptor's, sped over the many deserts of Algeria soon to get to Sicily.

"Guys. This is your captain speaking. We around about eight hours away. Try not to get too rowdy." said the captain of one of the C-47's on the intercom. This air group would land troops and some equipment in Sicily. It would mark the first landing of the war.

Sardinia

The air group over Sicily, tired of hitting administrative buildings, moved towards Sardinia, hoping for wandering Roman troops and civilians to come out of their hiding spots...

In Rome, the Imperator's female attendents clip their toenails. This war had taken so much longer than they thought it would take, and their toenails had become quite long. In fact, one of the female attendents produced a clipping at least an inch long...

Gross!

The Imperator gags.

Sicily

"Go, go, go!" roared a squad commander over the drone of the C-47 engines. Seemingly endless numbers of paratroopers, jumped out of the planes onto the Roman terrority. With their guns at the ready, the paratroopers scurried left and right, looking for the company in which they were assigned to. Artillery pieces and trucks soon fell after all of the paratroopers were successfully air-dropped. Small groups of paratroopers broke off from the main army, looking for the engineers. The main army, though, headed towards the now deserted city of Messina, to hold up.

International Waters

The 2nd Imperial Fleet kept its advance towards the Suez Canal, guared by a few measly submarines. Those subs, however, would be sunk very soon.

In Sicilia, a small number of engineers wait near the short next to a small motorboat. They are relatively shielded by trees and the mountainous region from sight. Overhead, they see the massive planes flying towards the Messina.

The leader of them, Gaius, turns to the others, saying "Oremus (let us pray)."

Gaius and the other nine cross themselves, before Gaius begins again:

"O Domine, dixisti tu diligite inimicos vestros. Ergo Deus oremus pro illis quibus oppugnant nos sine causa. Dona eis donum paenitentiaeque perduca O Jesus Domine Christe eos in vitam aeternam sicut nunc debent mori Amen.

(O Lord, you said 'Love your enemies.' Therefore God we pray on behalf of those who now attack us without cause. Give to them the gift of repentence and lead them, O Lord Jesus Christ into life everlasting...even as now they must die. Amen.)"

They cross themselves once more, and then, when Gaius says "Eamus (let us go)," they step into the small motorboat. Gaius lifts up a small black trigger, pressing it...and then they haul ass outta there.

Then, all throughout the mountainous region of the island, and in the cities, mines begin exploding everywhere, particularly near the sides and peaks of the mountains, creating a giant avalanche of rocks and debris, and crumbling buildings, moving outwards towards the shores...indeed, for the soldiers in Messina, it's as though the entire sky had fallen in on them.

Sicily, near Messina
The now-marching army trudged towards Messina, when they head a large boom. Rocks collapsed everywhere as the area around Messina became a huge avalanche. The lead elements of the group, unfortunately, were struck down by flying pieces of rock. This would not hinder the advance of this army, though.

Hmm. I guess someone is trying to kill us. muttered a marching commander, not even bothering to see the avalanche and the casualties, yet rather look at the clear water.

Sardinia
The bombers had new orders. They dropped their bombs on Roman power plants, leaving whatever what left there in the dark. Military buildings would light up because of their generators, making them easy targets for the now anxious bombers. These planes would leave Sardinia like they like Sicily; empty and ruined.

Casualties
12 paratroopers dead
8 paratroopers wounded

Dead or not, the Sicilian troopers are left stranded on an island with literally nothing on it. All of the cities on the island have been reduced to rubble, either by airstrikes from the enemy, or from the mines.

Sardinia is much like Sicilia before occupation, which is to say, completely lifeless, more or less. The Imperator, having received a report from the engineers, thereby sends one of the coast gaurd air squadrons to make a quick sweep over the Sicilian island, checking if there are any survivors.

Suez Canal

"Sir! Our SONAR detected 15 subs at the delta of the Suez Canal. What are your orders?"
The 2nd Imperial Fleet, headed by Admiral Dreston, took this information, quickly wrote something down, and then ordered one of his lower ranking officers to say the message. The officer, without doubt, performed the task.

"All ships with helicopters are to launch the copters and hunt down those subs. Our SONAR already gave away their position. It is up to you guys to sink 'em." said the officer over the loudspeaker on all of the 2nd Imperial Fleet ships.

All of the fleet, except for the cruisers, then pulled back as the helicopters sprang to life and flew towards the submerged subs. Each SH-60 helicopter dropped a SONAR bouy, revealing the positions of the Roman subs.

"Heh heh. This is Helo 2. I see them. Opening fire. This won't take long." chuckled a pilot while launching Mark 46 torpedoes at the subs.

The cruisers in the fleet then advanced through the Canal, and fired their ASROCs, AntiSubmarine ROCkets. None of those Roman subs would survive.

Suez Canal:

The Submarines are in mortal peril, and there is no possible way for them to escape. Therefore, before the projectiles reach them, they fire each 2 volleys of torpedos towards the nearest ships.

Then, the projectiles hit, and they all shatter beneath the water. After a few moments, some of the bodies of the crews float to the surface, bloody and dismangled.

Over Sicily:

The Coast Gaurd squadron had spotted a number of troops, a large number of troops, still alive, marching towards Messina. The squadron had retreated to Rome, and was quickly replaced with 5 bomber squadrons.

60 B-52 Bombers
75 Panavia Tornado Fighters
60 Agusta Attack Helicopters

They fly far overhead the marching (or bunked in, whichever) soldiers, dropping a large payload of bombs over the marching troops. Afterwards, the helicopters dive down, making an effort to gun down some of the remaining troops.

Meanwhile, the Strait Navy begins to retreat back towards Rome.

Casualties:

15 subs.
375 sub crews.

Suez Canal

Alarms and Sirens blared throughout the 2nd Fleet as sailed ran back and forth, performing tasks in order to stop those torpedoes from hitting any ships. "Deploy the torpedo decoys!" snapped the Admiral while checking on the command bridge.

Torpedo decoys are highly refective of sound and also produces its own sound. These decoys 'sound' like a big ship which 'looks' like a big ship to SONAR, tricking the enemy torpedoes into attacking them.

Sicily

Men left and right were struck down as the helicopters tore apart the paratroopers. Many, though, prepared beforehand and brought 9K38 Iglas. These soldiers ducked for cover, loaded their Iglas, and fired at the Roman helicopters. These shots would hit their marks, mainly due to the fact that 9K38 Iglas use superior Seeker heads.

"We need backup over here!" yelled a commander, while shooting randomly into the air. "Shi-" The soldier's last word was muted out by the roar of bullets wizzing into his chest. The commander fell down without a noise.

The Maldorian air group, hearing reports of air attacks on Sicily, sprang towards Sicily in a mission to halt Roman advances. F-22 Raptor's could easily take out a few bombers or even helicopters. This mission would not be hard.

Med. Sea

The 1st Imperial Fleet, amazed that the Roman blockade had been lifted, followed the enemy fleet. The fleet waited a few minutes for the Roman navy to sail away until they followed suite.

The Naval Fleet:

The Naval fleet has begun it's flight from the Gibraltar straight, and is currently nearing the southern parts of Sardinia, moving at top speed.

At Sicily:

25 of the helicopters are hit by the hand held launchers, and come flying down to the ground, crashing in flames. The 75 Tornado fighters' backburners kick in, and they go screaming towards the advancing fighters while the bombers and the remaining helicopters make their way back to Rome. The 75 fighters break, and move up over the advancing fighters, firing sidewinder missiles at the advancing fighters, aiming for the top parts of the cockpits.

Meanwhile, 5 Special Ops squadrons make their way towards Sicily, as well as the 10 Coast Gaurd Air Squadrons.

Casualties:

25 Agusta Helicopters
50 Agusta Pilots

"Now! All forces open fire!" was the command. Hundreds of GLI-76 Falcon Multi-Role Aircraft took off from their carriers and engaging the retreating enemy fleet. They wouldn't expect something like this.

Battlecruisers opened fire with their cannons on the unexpecting enemy, hitting their rear, the worst possible situation.

Sicily

The Raptor's sped towards Sicily. Upon seeing Sidewinder missiles coming from long range, the Raptor's figured out a way to counter them.

"Launch flares, boys." Suddenly, every Raptor deployed their flares, successfully luring the Sidewinders towards the flares. As the flares were launched, the Raptor's kicked in their afterburners and sped right towards the enemy craft at point-blank, launching their own set of Sidewinders from point-blank, sure to hit.

A few of the Raptor's broke off the dogfight and fired upon the now-vernerable helicopters and bombers. This dogfight would be nothing more than slaughter for those Romans.

The Mediterranean

The navy was caught completely off gaurd, and completely in a horrible position. They took an incredibly hard hit. Immediately, half of the naval frigates were completely torn to shreds by the cannon fire, and half of the corvettes were blown to smithereens by aircraft fire.

Yet, quickly, the Navy becomes battle ready. The ships turn to face their attackers, exposing their gun systems. From the big ships, anti-aircraft guns and anti-aircraft missiles rise rapidly into the air, zooming towards the incoming aircraft.

Meanwhile, the subs (15) submerge deep underwater, and sail towards the middle of the fleet, and begin firing on some of the smaller ships. The corvettes speed towards the incoming fleet, breaking into two groups, moving to the sides of the enemy fleet, and firing at the sides of the smaller ships.

Meanwhile, the larger ships use their main guns to fire on the larger ships, aiming for the decks.

90 Agusta attack helicopters rise into the air, rising up towards the incoming aircraft, firing their chainguns at their undersides.

Casualties:

10 Corvettes
5 Frigates
1775 seamen.

Sicily:

Most of the Tornados dived down, shooting up their flares like the enemy, drawing the sidewinders to them. Some of them didn't. 20 Tornado's go spiraling down to the ground, along with 10 of the Agustas.

By this time, the aerial reinforcements have arrived. The 100 F-16 come to cut off the fighters attacking the bombers, firing a volley of chaingun fire, along with 90 of the reinforcing Tornados. Meanwhile, the 55 Tornados that WEREN'T cut down come screaming back up, firing another volley of missiles at the opposing aircraft.

The 25 reinforcing bombers make another bombing sweep over the 2000 or so remaining soldiers, as well as cutting down a swathe of trees a half mile or so away from them. Here the EH101's land, dropping off 1500 Special Ops, who then begin sniping off the remaining soldiers.

The other Agustas and Tornado's, meanwhile, fly overhead, gaurding the Special Ops below.

Casualties:

20 Tornados
10 Agustas
60 Pilots

Message to The Imperator

Surrender. You know that you are fighting a losing battle, so why continue this nonsense? It was doomed for you since the start. If you surrender now, we will treat you and your people, rather well. If you do not surrender then your forces will be defeated, much of your population enslaved, and you hanged. Would you like that?

Med Sea
The enemy helicopters met their doom. The 8 Paramount class Air Defense Vessels sent towards this fleet tore apart the enemy helicopters before they had a chance to make a move or even hit a fighter, for all that mattered. Cruisers began firing the Mark 46 torpedoes at the enemy submerged subs. Using their SONAR, it would be easy.

Casualties
Illium class Destroyer-3 sunk
Tenacious class Cruiser-2 sunk
20 GLI-76 Falcon Multi-Role Aircraft

The F-22's began engaging the enemy bombers and helicopters, leaving the Paramount class Air Defense Vessels to wreak havoc upon the defenseless fighters. The Raptors decided to add a little mix by fixing their Vulcan cannons while firing their missiles. The 2nd Imperial Fleet had met up with the Sicilian defenders and launched their multi-role fighters to exterminate the enemy paratroopers and helicopters.
Casualties
500 paratroopers dead
70 paratroopers wounded
17 F-22 Raptor's hit

They shall die free.

Imperator Quintus Gaius Constantinvs.

The Agustas were completely obliterated. The subs...were completely obliterated. However, before the subs were hit, they had the chance to fire one last round of torpedos at the enemy fleet.

The attacking corvettes....were cut down, and sunk beneath the waves.

In the end, the only ships that still stood were the 5 battleships, 5 cruisers, and 5 LHDs, which continued to fire at the fighters and enemy ships, sending waves after waves of torpedos, missiles, cannon fire, and anti aircraft fire.

Casualties:

10 Destroyers
5 Frigates
10 Corvettes
15 Subs
85 Agustas
5950 Seamen

Many fighters, helicopters, and bombers began to fall from the sky, and quickly afterwards, flew off back to Rome, retreating.

The special ops....stood no chance.

Casualties:

5 Bombers
5 EH101 Lift Helicopters
40 Panavia Tornado Fighters
10 F-16 Fighters
25 Agusta Attack Helicopters
185 Aircrews
1500 Special Ops Paratroopers

More and more GLI-76 Falcon Multi-Role Aircraft were being launched from the carriers, which were safely pockets behind allied ships. These carriers would not be sunk today. SH-60 helicopters took off from their helipads on the remaining cruisers and attacked the ships.

To the southeast came the 2nd Imperial Fleet. The Roman navy was surrounded. The Mishkin class Omnirole Superdreadnought, flagship of the fleet which goes under the name MSS Haunter, roared to life as its 20' inch cannons blased away at the smaller Iowa-Class Battleships. Even more GLI-76 Falcon Multi-Role Aircraft took off, yet from the other 2 carriers. Plane wizzed around the now-surrounded Roman fleet, delivering their payload as the Maldorian ships engaged in an enormous naval battle for the control of the Med Sea.

Reinforcements began arriving in the form of F/A-18 Hornet's and Maldorian ground forces. They did not reach the Med Sea, rather they are still approaching the Suez Canal. The 4 Carrier Battle Groupsthen broke up and were set to hit important ports in Italy. They would be Rome, Venice, Florence and Naple. This left the Surface Action Group in the Med. Sea, launching their aircraft, hitting any building of importance in Rome.

Reinforcements in the Suez Canal

OOC: First and foremost, I object to the numbers you've offered. There's no way, man.

IC:

From the very moment that the fighters come within 100 miles of the shore, the fighters would realize that they have made a grevious mistake. They have just flown in to the most heavily defended area on the coast. From the moment they approach, literally thousands of Missile Launcher Systems and hundreds of Anti Aircraft systems are trained on them. From the moment they come within the area, literally a wall of anti aircraft fire and anti aircraft missiles begin to fly towards the relatively small number of aircraft.

The anti aircraft fire is continuous their entire flight. The chances of them even nearing the coast...is highly improbable.

OOC: sorry to intrude on a closed thread, but Maldorians, your numbers are wanky beyond the point of being called extreme.
Lets have a look a the numbers shall we:
first off aircraft:
For 50,000 F-18s we need at least 625 Nimitz class carriers (since you are using the suez these are the largest vessels capable of transiting that water way) proabably closer to 800, each of which needs roughly 2000 men, so that is a grand total of 1.6million personell and at least $1.6 trillion worth of aquaitistion costs.
For the marines alone you need at least another 100 large transports,
For the tanks you are lookign at approx 1000-1500 transports (plus another couple of hundred transports to house the crews) plus to keep that little lot goign you will need several thousand supply ships every day. And this is just you suez group and this is without reffernece to the fact that it is goign to take days to cycle all these ships through the canal.

I would say, and i am sure most decent Rpers out side of your CA buddies would agree, that Gens Romae has mroe than enough grounds for a hefty ignore here, that is if he ever decides to visit the forum ever again after this sort perfect example of terrible RP and wank. It isn't enough that you are blatantly number wankign but those little tech exmplanations of yours really take the biscuitand only serve to demonstrate your complete lack of understanding of how things really work. OOC: No, it was fine. The numbers weren't "wanked" as you believed they were.

1) He made a major godmode as well before I had to check it out and make him edit it. So, you, Crookfur, are in no position to make idle complaints. During multiple posts has he messed up his numbers, troops, or even the whole thing. I then had to contact him and make hiim edit it. You, of course, did not read the original post so you would not see the mode.

2) He claimed that I couldn't go up the Suez Canal because he claimed that "your fleetwas in the Atlantic and it can't go to the Suez". Does that make sense? No.

3) Another thing, he already said in MSN that the war was wanked before I posted my troops so I just decided to invcrease the numbers for the heck of it. You weren't there, so, clearly, you wouldn't know.

4) No offense, but can you spell? "goign" "willign" "teh" "mroe" "lookign" "reffernece" "personell" and a few more were what I found one a first glance.

5) "It isn't enough that you are blatantly number wankign but those little tech exmplanations of yours really take the biscuitand only serve to demonstrate your complete lack of understanding of how things really work."

So are you implying that I am ignorant, because that is just bad form, man.

OOC: Hey, let it go. Gene will learn. And as for Crookfur, despite is many spelling errors, I do know that he knows what he is talking about. And if what he is saying about the numbers is true, you need to fix them.

OOC: no no. I checked my numbers. They seem fine. I don't see how Crookfur can back up his post when he is just pulling it out of his as-....butt...

Listen, all of you please delete your posts, for they did not add anything:

1) He surrended to me on MSN, offering to be my vassal/vassalage, whatever it is.

2) I agreed.

3) For some reason he though that by me agreeing I godmodded.

4) I, just fooling around with him, increased the numbers by like a lot, knowing that the RP was already over.

5) He posted after me, not knowing that I posted.

Now please delete your posts now that you know what happened.
