An Illusion of Unity
Part 1

President Erik Hiendritch silently read over the dull economic reports in front of him, reading each word but not really forming a sentence in his head, as a result he found himself reading the same line over and over again. Eventually he gave up and tossed the reports on his already cluttered desk. For the next five minutes he stared at nothing...at everything.
His office was adorned with fine portraits of his predecessors and their families. In six years his would be hanging from the wall as well. In the center of the room was his desk, a heavy mahogany perpetually cluttered thing he was forced to sit behind everyday of the week. There was a perk though, his chair was extremely comfortable; without this simple luxury he doubted he could survive his job, no matter how grand it was. In front of the desk were three cushioned chairs, for the various foreign diplomats that frequented his country and his office. Behind him as a huge window from which he could gaze down on the courtyard. But right now, he really felt like going to his house and sleeping for a full night without interruption.

"Mr. President?" no such luck. It was Erik's secretary, Louise Lacra'te. He watched with apprehension as she approached. He liked the woman, but she always seemed to bring bad news.

"Yes, my dear?" Erik asked, bracing for the torrent of meetings he had to go to, shortages of consumer goods and whatnot. She walked around the desk and whispered:

"Your wife is here," Erik felt the knot in his stomach loosen considerably, "as well as the Minister of the Auizerith Islands." his stomach went from feeling a little better to disappearing completly. Minister Karl Welvik always put him a horrible mood. He stood up and put his hand on Louise's shoulder.

"Alright, send the Minister up, tell my wife I will see her as soon as possible."

"Yes, sir."

Erik watched Louise leave, she silently closed the door behind her. He waited a moment before walking around his desk and staring at the picture of former President William, his government ran the country efficiently and without little trouble. Erik wished his was running so smoothly; though it was understandable, in the year Erik had been president thus far, Aistvan, and the federation it headed, had aquired two new territories: the Auizerith Islands, and the Islands Pristine. Both of whom had incredibly pretentious ministers who apparently enjoyed getting under their executives skin. Erik was pulled away from the solitude of his thoughts by a quick rap on the door.

"Yes," Minister Welvik walked straight in and sat down in one of the chairs, turned his pale head sideways and offered the President a seat at his own desk. Erik stared at the whitehaired man for a second, the glasses the white teeth, the short stature-

"What seems to be the problem Minister Welvik?" Erik asked as he took a seat in front of him, he leaned back and tented his fingers waiting for the Minister to speak.

"Mr. President, we have a big problem. A big one!" Erik nodded and motioned for him to continue.

"The Ministry of Auizerith has asked me to formally request that the soldiers of the 3rd Tank Battalion still stationed in our capitol to be removed! It has been several monthes since the last of the riots and we feel that the presence of Aistvanian military personnel is uncalled for!" this was not what the President had expected, not at all. Usually this prick just complained about something or other.

"Well Minister Welvik, there are certain things you must understand. Firstly-those are not Aistvanian military personnel, they are Federal Military Personnel, that makes them as much Auizerithan as Aistvanian as much as anybodies. The 3rd Tank Battalion, as well as the 7th Infantry and the Federal Homeland Defense force with remain on those islands until the Minister of Defense says that your regular police forces can suffiently put down the riots and protests. The military personnel will remain there as they will in the Islands Pristine. Secondly- I really don't think your island police can handle things themselves, so it is not just the Minister of Defense's opinion, but mine as well. Now is there anything else you would like to add?" Erik knew he sounded like a dick, but he had a headache, and he wanted to make this short so he could see his wife.

Minister Welvik was taken aback by this harsh response, "No, that is all Mr. President, good day." He stood up and quickly walked out of the room. As he walked out the Presidents secretary (he couldn't remember her name) asked if the President wanted his wife sent up, Welvik shrugged and continued to walk towards the elevator on the other end of the hallway. When the elevator doors closed he pressed GDF on the LCD screen and was lowered to the lobby. He nodded at the guard near the door and got into his waiting limosine. The driver lowered the center window.

"Back to you hotel, sir?"

"No, take me to the airport. I'm tired of this shit. Goddamn self-righteous bastard!" he muttered, the President's words rang in his head.

"Yes, sir." the driver raised the center window, and drove quickly to the front gate and out of the courtyard. He took a left and made his way to the airport. President Erik watched the limo pull away, he turned around when his wife, Kellie, walked in.

.................................................................................................... ....................................................................................................

Needless to say, the Minister's mood had improved little when he deboarded the 747 aircraft in the Auizerithan National Airport in the capitol city of Yazicov. The Minister again entered another waiting limo and was wisked away to the Ministry of Auizerith. He had called earlier that day to request a meeting with the Prime Minister.
After about an hour, the limo finally pulled into the underground garage and Welvik made his way to the elevator, once inside he pushed the fifth floor button (5F). When his destination was reached he was greeted by two men armed with MP5's. He quickly handed over his identification and was allowed into the office of Prime Minister Bradley. The Prime Minster's office was pretty much the same as the President's, only more modern in tone. The Prime Minister was tall, thin man with blue eyes and black hair. His grey suit was absolutely spectacular, he was sitting down at his desk pouring himself a glass of vodka. He motioned for the Minister to take a seat, the Minister declined the offer for a drink.

"So, how did it go?" Bradley asked.

"Terrible, Mr. Prime Minister. He rejected the notion of the Aistvanian forces leaving the island. They will remain here until he and his Minister's see fit!" the Prime Minister felt his grip tighten around the glass. 'Damnit! Damnit!'

"Alright then, if they won't leave, we will make them leave. I will announce our withdrawl from the federation tomorrow. I was forced to join by the same rioters who are now complaining about the military presence. They will get what they want. Hell, the President won't go to war for a piece of land he has not had for more than six monthes."

"I'm sure your right Mr. Prime Minister. I am sure your right..."

The President of the Federation of Aistvan, Erik Hiendritch dropped his glass when he heard the news the next morning. The Islands of Auizerith had seceded from the Federation and announced their intention to force the Federal forces out of their country. Much to his surprise, television footage showed M1 Abrams tanks surrounding the Federal Base and several hundred men and women being transported to a waiting vessel at the harbor of Port Monsith. The news broadcaster announced that the military personnel were expected to arrive in two days time. It was also mentioned that all Federal resources and equipment on the islands had been seized and would not be returned until each bullet, gun, tank, ect...had been accounted for. The Prime Minister expressed his wishes not to be involved in hostilities with the Federation, and that he was sorry for Auizeriths abrupt withdrawl. They claimed that their succession was completely legal and that they had not intention of every rejoining. The occupation of their islands had been the final nudge that pushed them out of the Federation.

"Son of a bitch..." grumbled Erik as he sat in at the head of a confrence table later that day. His Minister of State, and the Federal Minister of the Military were present to discuss their options.

Erik motioned for the FMM to present his opinion. The Minister asked for the President to turn around and view the picture behind them. It was a map (http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa181/RepressedImagination/Map.jpg) of Aistvan and the surrounding islands that made up the Federation. Including the former Federal territory, and second largest island chain, Auizerith. He went on to explain how that single loss of territory had cut their oil reserves in half, that was on of the main reasons for insiting riots to force their government to join the federation. Aside from the Industrial Islands; the federation produced almost no oil itself. And Auizerith trading procedures weren't going to make their problem any easier to solve.

"Mr. President, we have to take back those islands, by force if necessary. We have enough oil in reserve to support our economy and full scale military operations for four monthes, after that we will be drained dry. The economic chaos that would result in is unacceptable!"

The Minister of State agreed. The road between war and peace now rested on the Presidents shoulders. He made the faithful decision.

"Those islands are Federal Territory, they left the Federation illegally and without due cause, I told the Minister of Auizerith that they would not get away with leaving the Federation when he threatened to do so yesterday," this of course was a lie, "we will take back those islands. Not just because of the oil, but because the rule of law must be maintained if this federation is to survive!"

The rule of law....the war between Aistvan and Auizerith had begun.

(OOC: You can post now. This is my first RP, so if it sounds clunky or hard to follow please let me know!! Note, the Aistvan island is not labled on the map, but it is the big one in the middle.)
