ERX-22A2 Assault Rifle

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i114/ninjahedgehog/helgastassault.gif

The ERX-22A2 is a direct descendant of the original ERX-22 battle rifle, which entered Ezaltian service with superb results. The A1 version replaced the underbarrel shotgun with a semi-auto 20-mm grenade launcher, increasing the firepower of the individual soldier on the battlefield. The weapon went on to perform admirably in Iragia, Honako, and Hataria. The one thing soldiers complained about, however, was the powerful recoil casued by the massive 7.62x51mm NATO round. "It felt like Hulk Hogan was punching my shoulder with brass knuckles every time I fired," said Private Farley Drexel of the Ezaltian Marines. "Every Hatarian I shot at dropped like a rock, but my arm was numb by the end of the battle."

Drexel's complaints, among many others, were listened to by Tristan Industries, the designer of the rifle. In response, they went through extensive tests with various cartidges to design a round that had the sheer stopping power of the NATO, but was lighter, had better performance against body armor, and was more controllable. The result was the 140-grain 6.8x56mm Ezaltian, nicknamed the "Tristan Industries Terminator."

The "tit," as it was inevitably shortened to, is only slightly lighter than the bigger NATO round, but the rifle itself is also modified to reduce recoil, as detailed later. The 6.8 uses a dense tungsten bullet for superior penetration power, especially against body armor. To save on costs, TI uses a steel casing coated with a thin layer of copper. The tungsten core is easily capable of penetrating even the most advanced ballistic vests and body armor. Once it makes it through the initial resistance, it tumbles, causing a massive wound channel.

To reduce recoil, TI modified several components of the ERX-22. The buffer spring was replaced with a stronger titanium one, reducing the knockback power of the shot. The flash supressor was replaced with a new muzzle brake/supressor hybrid. Taking a nod from the AKM series, the gases are angled up and slightly across the shooter's body. This, of course, can be modified for both left- and right-handed shooters. If noise suppression is required, the system can be easily replaced with a silencer.

The steel hammer of the rifle was replaced with a titanium one, increasing it accuracy. The two-round burst function was replaced with three rounds to ensure a kill when fired. The rifle is fed through a 50-round helical magazine, allowing greater firing time before reloading. Casings are ejected above and slightly behind the pistol grip, and the weapon can easily be modified to eject to the left or right, depending on the shooter. The fire selector switch, with "SAFE," "SEMI," "BURST," "AUTO," and "GRENADE" functions is replicated on the left and right sides, making the weapon even more ambidextrous. The trigger has a silky-smooth pull, increasing accuracy.

Reloading the weapon can be tricky for beginners. When the last bullet is fired, the bolt stays open. The shooter then raises the dust cover above the magazine, and the butt kicks back, letting the drum slide off of the holder. A new drum is then slid into place, the butt clicked back, the dust cover replaced, and the bolt tapped shut, chambering in a new round. The butt of the weapon has a soft gel pad, reducing the impact on the shooter's shoulder.

The ERX-22A2 has three long rails for accessories, such as flashlights, laser sights, scopes, and other such things. The rifle comes standard with a carrying handle-optical sight combination, although this can be easily removed and swapped out. The top of the handle has tritium-lit iron sights. In Ezaltian service, one of the rails is mounted with a small camera connected to the soldier's HUD. This allows the soldier to point his rifle around a corner to observe without endangering himself.

The rifle also comes standard with a semi-auto 20-mm grenade launcher, fed from a five-round magazine. However, this can be replaced with a 12-gauge shotgun upon request.

SP-45 Service Pistol

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i114/ninjahedgehog/wa_Infinity_Expert_pistol_5.jpg

Since 1935, the Ezaltian Army and Marines have issued every single soldier a pistol in case his main weapon breaks or jams. The M1911 became the Glock 17, which became the FN Five-seveN, which became the E-57. Now the SP-45 is the newest heir to this long legacy of excellent handguns.

The 5.7x28 round that the last two pistols used performed excellently against armored targets, but on many occasions, it took several shots to drop an enemy. Special-forces units often complained that silenced E-57s and FNs were still too loud, due to the high speed of the 5.7 round. As such, the SAS often resorted to Colt M1911s for covert work, modifying them to accept silencers. The .45 ACP round is inherently subsonic, eliminating the loud crack of a sonic boom.

The PS-45, in most aspects, is simply a modified E-57 that uses the .45 ACP round. The round itself is like a miniature version of the 6.8x56 rifle round, with the tungsten core surrounded by a copper-brushed steel case. The dense bullet allows for superior armor penetration than most .45 rounds, yet still leaves the same massive wound channel iconic to the caliber.

One problem with the .45, however, is the recoil generated when firing. To combat this, the SP-45 uses a firm titanium buffer spring and cushions many internal parts with polymer covers, reducing the knockback and increasing accuracy. The trigger is carefully machined and has a ultra-smooth pull, further increasing accuracy. The grip of the SP-45 is regarded as one of the most comfortable in the world, although the base is strengthened in case pistol-whipping is required.

The SP-45 is also extremely durable and reliable. Ezaltian Arms testers have put 20,000 rounds through it without jamming once. The pistol has been buried in mud for two months, dropped from the top of a skyscraper, driven over by an 18-wheeler, and sunk to the bottom of a lake, but still was able to be fired immediatley after recovery. It was, unfortunately, destroyed when placed under the booster rockets during a satellite launch, but nothing can really survive that.

The pistol also has Picatinny rails installed on the sides and bottom for various accessories, and the barrel accepts screw-on silencers.

ERX-50 Assault Rifle

Image (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i114/ninjahedgehog/m82withoutgrenade010li.jpg)

The next generation in Ezaltian assault rifles, the ERX-50 aims to supply the Ezaltian infantryman with power, accuracy, and reliability in a lightweight, versatile package.

The ERX-50 uses a 160-grain 6.8x56mm round, the Tristan Industries Terminator II. Like the original, it is a kenetic energy base-sabot round, propelling a dense tungsten core into the target upon impact. This is extremely effective against armored targets, and the ERX has been proven to penetrate a Type IV ballistic vest at 500 meters. Upon entering, the round tumbles wildly, creating a massive wound channel. A kill is extremely likely, and with a three-round burst, assured. For unarmored targets, hollowpoint rounds may prove more effective. The rifle is fed through 30-round box magazines, outfitted with clips to attach two together. Casings eject above and behind the pistol grip.

Great pains were taken to assure the accuracy of the rifle, and the first step to this was limiting the recoil. An advanced muzzle brake, redirecting the gases up and across the shooter's body, assist this. The stock is outfitted with a soft gel pad, reducing felt recoil, thus improving accuracy. The rifle also takes a nod from the DR-83 series and uses a reverse piston to help counteract recoil during sustained fire. Aiding in the accuracy is a long, free-floating barrel and a titanium hammer. The trigger has a silky-smooth pull, reducing movement of the weapon when firing.

The ERX-50 is also extremely reliable, firing 12,000 rounds without a single jam or failure. It has been dropped from the roofs of buildings, buried in mud, swam across Lake Satine, and dragged through sand dunes, and in every case, it fired immediately without failure.

Four long rails surround the barrel, allowing for accessories of all sorts to be attached. The rifle comes standard with superb tritium-lit iron sights and a carrying handle, although these can be removed for alternate sights and scopes. Side rails can be used for laser sights, flashlights (in Ezaltian service, a camera) or any manner of things, while the bottom rail is the perfect spot for a bipod or grenade launcher. The muzzle brake can be swapped out for a flash suppressor or silencer at will.

A designated marksmen variation, the EDM-50, is equipped with a heavier barrel and built-in bipod.
