The Downfall of Gens Romae *Attn Gens Romae*

Maldorians
28-06-2007, 03:45
The Mandalore stepped into his War Council and met with his confidences, two Maldorian Generals and five aides. The Mandalore, clearly unhappy, pushed the large pile of paperwork on his desk onto the floor. One of the aides soon hurried over and started shuffling then up as The Mandalore spoke, " Listen. This country;Gens Romae. Their pathetic fishing boats entered our waters. I will NOT tolerate this, especially from a smaller nation. Tell me what happened in our waters!" The Mandalore waited for one of the aides to speak up.

The aide then donned his reading glasses and read his report, "Well sir. Gens Romae sent a fishing fleet of 10 fishing boats. We brought over a few Maldorian Patrol boats and, of course, warned the fishing boats to get out of our waters. They didn't listen so we had no choice but to fire on them, sinking the whole fleet."

Transmission to Gens Romae
I will not tolerate this. 'What is the matter?' you may say, but you are your corrupt government are responsible for your ignorance. You dare go into Maldorian waters? Not only that but then FISH in our waters? Be scared, Gens Romae, be very scared.

-The Mandalore.

The 9th SSN sped through the Gens Romae waters, towards the Romae ports. Upon reaching the docked enemy ships, the Maldorian subs launched their torpedoes at the enemy Romae ships, not expecting an attack.

Open Declaration:

Surely, ten fishing boats is hardly a reason to place millions of lives on the line in a deadly, and ultimately pointless, conflict. I ask that both Gens Romæ and the Maldorians come to Kensington to engage in peace talks, so that this conflict may be peacefully resolved.

Sincerely,

The Roman Dictator sits in the living of his estate in Rome. He yawns sleepily, leaning upon his couch drowsily. It has hitherto been a fairly boring day for him. His beurocracy tends to handle the everyday affairs of the Romans.

An aid enters:

"Salve Imperator! Accepimus epistolam a Maldoris. Eam lege!
(Hail Emperor! We have recieved a letter from the Maldorians. Read it!)"

The Imperator takes the letter, sitting up straight in his couch, reading the transcript of the telegram sent.

"Naves Piscariae? In aquis Maldororum?
(Fishing ships? In Maldorian waters?)"

"Sic dicunt.
(So they say.)"

"Haec contrahe.
(Deal with this.)"

Official Telegram from the Romans to the Maldorians:

We are completely unaware of any fishing boats scheduled to sail in Maldorian waters. In fact, the sheer distance between our nations renders the pursuance of such a thing in your waters completely unfeasible. In a word, they aren't ours.

IC: Scene- a Port in Southern Italy:

The Third fleet (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=530833) of the Roman Navy lies in port. All of a sudden, explosions light the air, and the water becomes violently choppy as a Corvette begins to sink beneath the waves.

Then a second Corvette...

Then a Submarine. By the submarine's destruction, the rest of the fleet had come alive.

(This is the rest of the fleet:

1 Iowa Class Battleship
1 USS Wasp Class LHD
1 Ticonderoga Class Cruisers
1 Durand De La Penne Class Destroyer
2 Maestrale Class Frigates
2 Braunschweig Class Corvettes
5 Type 212 Submarines
18 EH101 Lift Helicopters (On the LHD)
17 Agusta Attack Helicopters (3 on the Battleship; 6 on the LHD; 2 on the Cruiser; 2 on the Destroyer; 4 on the Frigates))

Sonar begins to ring out beneath the waves as the remaining surface ships, and the subs, begin to sail, seeking out the attackers. From the Battleship, LHD, Cruiser, Destroyer, and Frigates), Agusta Attack Helicopters rise into the sky, sweeping the air, searching for signs of the attackers.

To: The People's Sovereign Republic of British Londinium
From: Mr. White, foreign affairs officer

The Dominion of Emperor Pudu strongly advises the Sovereign Republic to leave be the situation in Gens Romae. This war does not concern you, nor would you like it to.

Certain interests of the Dominion ride on the outcome of this encounter, and any action you make to intervene will be seen as a move against the Emperor himself. Neither you nor ourselves have any right to impose our selective wills here. Do you not think that if the Emperor wished Gens Romae be destroyed, it would now be so?

While it may be unfortunate that some innocents will perish, it is all necessary. Global politics is based in modern times on one's strength, not one's willingness to bargain. We must let this continue, unabated and un-arbitrated.

Good day,
Mr. White.

Mr. Scope never enjoyed meetings like this. He kissed his little Bronze Key he wore for military service in Leafanistan. He knew that this was an immoral act, that it was wrong, but yet, the pictures of overcrowded slums in major cities. Homeless families lining the street. It must be done.

He got off the plane and waved for his limo. He then told the driver to drive, and watched as the 35 5-ton army trucks followed him. He was going to the New Aushan Ministry building, and he cradled his suitcase. The meeting had already been discussed via classified telegrams and he was to deliver payment.

After a rather long drive they arrived and Mr. Scope stepped into the well decorated room. An anonymous minister approached him and sat down, and Mr. Scope hoped this would impress him.

He opened his suitcase, and revealed, surrounded by foam padding, 4 gold bars, .99% pure, each one around $10,000 a pound. Mr. Scope gestured toward the vehicles outside.

"There is 3.5 billion USD worth of bullion out there. We hope this is to your liking."

Mr. Scope stepped out, the suitcase in front of the men as private security personnel begin taking boxes and boxes of gold out of the trucks and inside. He hoped he would never do anything like that again. He had just bought New Ausha's share in the war, and Leafanistan boys and girls were going to die fighting their war. He comforted himself in the escort woman he brought with him, and the idea that he was doing this for Leafanistan's future.

*Government Declaration*

It has come too our attention that our good friend and ally, the nation of Maldorians, has entitled us too the royalties of 10% of this nations gross physical land. In a matter of hours 200,000 Aushan marines accompanied by tanks, portable FOB's, warplanes, helicopters, and other materials will be landed. They will be followed by construction and contracting elements of the navy, air force, and army.

A naval fleet will arrive in several weeks. Too all citizens of said subjugated territory, please do not worry. We are simply occupiers, honorable ones at that. We simply ask you follow the instated martial law that will be in act for the initial several months, followed by free and open elections, too which you will elect a new body too govern. Though our plans for this area may seem ambiguous, we can only reassure you, that our intentions are completely honorable.

To those it may concern:

I have watched as this unfolds and find it appauling that ten fishing boats could cause such an uproar between nations, and a military strike. Surely there can be a diplomatic agreement reached between The Mandalorians and Gens Romae poste haste. In any effect, I have elected that the Pure Democracy will mobilize a small task force to Gens Romae, if so allowed by their government, in order to protect the sovereignty of their nation. Should The Mandalorians seek to engage Gens Romae or the proposed Jarridian Force, they will certainly be repaid in kind. I strongly urge the belligerent to take another look at the situation and reconsider their stance. You have destroyed ten unarmed and unthreatening ships, an unforgivable and punishable act. Thank you.

He stepped out toward the Limo, the girl in the interior hot tub had warmed it up and steam was coming out the sunroof. He loosened his tie and got in. He turned around and looked at the Aushan Marine guarding the place. He reached into his pocket and removed a .98% purity 2oz Leafanistan Gold Sovereign and handed it to the man.

The Roman Imperator sits in shock. War? Against nations a hundred or more times Rome's size. Never before in Her history, even against the Carthagineans has She faced such peril. Yet, She had recieved a most kind offer of protection from Jarridia. Yet, could She depend on it? Her borders are open.

Nonetheless, particularly in light of the thread from New Ausha, Rome must take steps to defend herself, even if it means risking utter extinction. The Imperator commands New Ausha's message be forwarded to Jarridia, and immediately sends commands to his Generals.

Never before had he heard of any of these nations. He could only assume, therefore, that they were overseas. Thus, he therefore takes steps to fortify the Western shores of the Empire.

Before the Imperator lies a small stack of papers, Imperial dictates, that must be signed and executed.

The first dictate:

A contract to Bellum Co. for the creation of stationary defenses on the western shores of the Empire.

The second dictate:

The broadcast of a public announcement of the general populous, and the spending of Denarios to supply Her citizens with small arms.

The third dictate:

The readying of Her military for all out war.

The fourth dictate:

The complete opening of the borders to Jarridian forces.

IC: Saharistani Air Base, New Baghdad

The Airbus tankers had already taken off and were over the Aegean Sea, as the first squadrons of Lu-12 Canaries lifted off from Saharistani Air Bases. To insure each one of them would have enough fuel to make it back they were to refuel once in flight.

They were headed for Sardinia, to annihilate all the air based opposition. Cpt. Jack Switch had listened to the speech by Skymarshall Samantha Arcturus about how this was completely necessary for the safety in the Aegean Sea and the surrounding area. How this would be for the future of Leafanistan.

He didn't care for this, only cared about action. He got into his Lu-12, flipped on his Macabeen glass cockpit, and checked his weapons load. It was only 2 Air to Air missiles and the rest were air to ground missiles and antitank missiles. He was a bomber, not a fighter. He hated that kind of mission.

Him and 89 other Lu-12s were in the air, in a few hours they would be over Sardinia, dropping their bombs, destroying airfields, military bases, naval stations, hardened bunkers, etc.

Behind him, B-1 Lancers loaded up with tons and tons of Fuel-Air munitions idled in the air to follow up as soon as the air was clear.

Attention, Gens Romae is getting too comfortable with Jarradia, the organ dealers. Cut off the underwater communications lines, attempt jamming and cut off land based lines. Those with submarines should find cutting underwater communications lines are as easy as finding the thick cables with SONAR and torpedoing them.

In light of what appears on our included satellite photos to be the beginnings of a military buildup in Jarradia, we are sending in Lu-12EW variants equipped with radio jamming pods to disrupt communications. We rely on your forces to cut land and sea lines.

[END]

Following the Saharistani Aircraft, and escorted by 2 Lu-12 Canaries each, 6 Lu-12EW Nightstalkers have taken off from Saharistani Airfields and went into an idle pattern near a tanker aircraft until the forward Lu-12s reported the air was clear for them to begin jamming and then strategic bombing.

OOC: I am going to be using this (http://www.geographicguide.com/maps/europe-map.gif) map for naval defense strategy and this (http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/europe/italy_rel96.jpg) map for coastal defenses. I am going to assume that the aforesaid losses are going to be the only losses I'll be taking from the 10 subs.

Also, y'all can find full information on my military in the link I gave on page one. If you can't find it, it's in my signiature. Ask if you still can't find it.

IC: The ships, finally having found via radar the 10 subs, begin to open hell upon them. Torpedos and gunfire fall mercilessly upon the subs, finding and hitting their marks. Debri, smoke, and fire flies up into the sky, along with bits of body parts from the cirews thereof.

On the Battleship, the fleet commander surveys the scene, watching. When the smoke clears, he calls the fleet chaplain to the Battleship to a say funeral mass (http://www.latinliturgy.com/tridmass.html) for their fallen comrades.

There was neither a dry eye nor an inattentive ear when the Momento was said after the consecration, a list of the names of the fallen soldiers having been given to the priest:

"Momento etiam, Domine, famulorum famularumque tuarum Favium, Publium, Quintum, Sextum, Octavanium, Tiberium... praecesserunt cum signo fidei et dormiunt in somno pacis. Ipsis Domine, et omnibus in Christo quiescentibus, locum refrigerii, lucis et pacis, ut indulgeas, deprecamur, per eumdem Christum Dominum nostrum. Amen.

(Be mindful, also, O Lord, of thy servants Favius, Publius, Quintus, Sextus, Octavian, Tiberius...&c...who have gone before us with the sign of faith and who sleep the sleep of peace. To these, O Lord, and to all who rest in Christ, grant, we beseech Thee, a place of refreshment, light, and peace. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.)"

Nor when the In Paradisum was sung:

"In paradisum deducant vos Angeli; in vestro adventu suscipiant vos martyres, et perducant vos in civitatem sanctam Ierusalem. Chorus angelorum vos suscipiat, et cum Lazaro quondam paupere æternam habeatis requiem.

(May angels lead you into Paradise; may the martyrs receive you at your coming and lead you to the holy city of Jerusalem. May a choir of angels receive you, and with Lazarus, who once was poor, may you have eternal rest.)"

Yet, the crews of the fleet were given no time to mourn, being immediately afterwards called to a state of war...

General IC:

All of the fleets of the Roman Navy are called to sail near the Straights Gibralter, effectively creating a blockade between the entire Western World and Southern Europe.

In Rome proper, bunkers are being hastily built by Bellum Co. in the mountain range bordering the Ligurian Sea, near the tops of the mountains, so that the soldiers thereof, and the artillery, could fire downwards at advancing troops. Further down, near the shores, trenches and fences of barbed wire are built to delay the advance of possible advancing enemies (To be called the Mountain Defense System).

Further down, from Lucca to Salerno, is being built a complex coastal defense system of bunkers, linked together by concrete trenches, and low concrete walls, along with a temporary highway system for rapid mobilization of mobile infantry (To be called the Coastal Defense System).

10 coastal gaurd legions are interspersed throughout the Mountain Defense System, along with 2000 Marines. The other 40 coastal gaurd legions, along with the other 6000 Marines, are interspersed throughout the Coastal defense system.

The Army proper is divided into 2 major fronts (25 legions each), one near Rome, the other near Prato.

The 10 Coast Gaurd Air Squadrons are set to patrol over Corsica and Sardina (5 Squadrons each).

Meanwhile, M40s are handed out to all of the male heads of house in Rome, and given instruction on how to fire by army officers.

From: Mr. White, foreign affairs officer

Information regarding your respective nations' recent military actions has come to the attention of the Dominion of Emperor Pudu, and some details of the coming conflict concern us.

Most specifically, those related to the island of Sicily. In regards to our Maldorian compatriots, the understanding has not been compromised, but to those nations who are scavenging, notably, New Ausha and Leafanistan, previous arrangements have been made.

It is understood that an agreement between New Ausha and the Maldorians have promised a stretch of land equaling ten percent of the Maldorian claim to them, and we can respect that, as long as it does not compromise a Dominion mission in the area.

As for the Leafistani forces, you are encroaching on territory under Imperial claim, and should you not submit those areas rightfully ours, we will be forced to take further action. All we desire is the isle of Sicily, and we will be sated.

A Pudite Rapid Reaction Force is inbound to Sicily to lay claim, following that, the occupation can begin. A colony of ours, Barudii, will be serving in our stead, as our soldiers are distracted elsewhere.

Mr. White spoke, "Fleet Admiral Stepanov," The man straightened, "You have been selected to serve our Emperor in a... special manner..."

The man nodded slightly, eager to please. His face was angular and worn, although one could tell he was not old. Perhaps thirty, he had never led an operation himself and was anxious to take to the field, as it were.

“Recently, an associate of ours, the Maldorains, launched an un-provoked attack on the nation of Gens Romae. The excuse involved a large fishing fleet and an encounter in Maldorian waters, but of course that is all lies. In fact, they attack at our bidding,”

The Admiral responded, “The Emperor’s influence is great indeed...”

Mr. White nodded, "And more recently, we have made claims of neutrality to those concerned about the issue. That too, is of course a lie.”

The man nodded again,

“What we require, is that you lead your battle-fleet, accompanied by five divisions of Barudiian mechanized infantrymen, into the conflict. You will secure our interests in the region; namely, Sicily.”

“Sicily sir, an island off the coast,”

“Yes, indeed. The Emperor has a desire for naval bases there, and there is population enough to raise a division or two to maintain them. You are instructed to capture said island.”

“Yes sir,”

Mr. White continued, “However, as of late other nations have begun to advance on the failing regime in Gens Romae, and some have made movements in the direction of our claims, for this reason, you will not be the first forces to make landfall,”

The Admiral nodded, and replied, “I imagine an OPARR fleet will have that honor, sir?”

“Indeed, Colonel Bazhenko Zaitsov of the Praetorian Guard will land in Syracuse in eight hours’ time. He will then hopefully move North and hold Messina, which is assumed to dangerous to assault amphibiously with such a small force. He will hold there for your forces,”

“Thank you for the oppurtunity, sir,” Admiral Yuri Stepanov saluted, and White spoke,

“Thank the Emperor... and those ten ‘fishing boats,’”

Both men smiled as the Admiral took his leave...

He would descend exactly five-hundred and fifty-four meters to the level housing this Compound’s Imperial Rail Stop. Admiral Stepenov would take the train, traveling the five-thousand kilometers to the coast in two days of black tunnels and the brief bursts of light that signified they had passed another Rail Stop. His was a priority train, and would make no other stops on his long journey to PC-1342, where his fleet was waiting for him.

Eleven-hundred combat ships and submarines, as well as two-hundred support ships and transports, awaited him. They would make the eight day trip to the small Pudite colony of Barudii, where they would pick up the five mechanized divisions that would comprise the assault force.

Meanwhile, fifteen thousand miles away, in the Mediterranean Sea, Pudite Colonel Bazhenko Zaitsov stood at the front railing of his command ship, the Resplendant Victory. Surrounding him were the other forty-two ships of his small fleet, speeding ahead at twenty-eight knots towards the small Italian island of Sicily.

Behind him, in a pair of amphibious assault ships, waited eight-thousand, seven-hundred and twenty of the finest soldiers on this earth. The Emperor’s Praetorian Guards, and Zaitsov was one of them. Standing seven and a half feet tall, he wore his massive matte-black combat armor regally. No peice of his skin was visible, save for that revealed by hjis lack of helmet.

Short, matted wet bleached white hair blew unsteadily in the breeze, soaked by the spray from the sea, but tossed by the strong breeze. His worn angular face stared at the horizon, tiny water droplets running over his square jaw and sharp cheek-bones.

In the distance, he could just barely make out the island that was his destination.

The fleet’s ships, all painted a heavy black, in contrast to the Imperial Navy’s sparkling white fleet, began to spread into the crescent-combat formation typical to the Dominion. In the shape of a crescent moon, with the depression facing the island, the pair of Roydia-class battleships leading the way at the center. Just behind them, a pair of Athios-class light carriers and another pair of Shrike-class assault carriers. Flanking these were the six Helina-class battlecruisers of the fleet, and beyond them, the thirty escorts and light cruisers of the fleet spread to protect them.

They were the point of the spear, the tip of the iceberg. behind these paltry forty-some odd ships, thousands would come. Behind these few thousand would come thousands more.

The fate of at least this island, was sealed.

The Erusean Aegir Fleet was still anchored outside Route1 waters. It would not be deployed fearing that it would not reach the little country in time a landing operation, as for the Allied powers were expected to overrun Gens Romae in very short time. However the Eruseans felt obliged to involve themselves in the aid of their beloved allies and in the destruction of the enemy. This task was given to the Erusean Republican Air Force, the only branch of the military capable of striking Gens Romae in time before the fall of its government.

In bases scattered around the country, strategic bombers fired up their engines and were loaded with vast varieties of munitions. The first plans to bomb Gens Romae would be the supersonic Tu-160's of the Apollo Squadron. The planes sported a completely white paint job, which was to help protect the plane from faraway nuclear flashes. Since the birds were supersonic, they generated considerable amounts of heat via friction. The white coloring would reflect most of the light from the flash, which would prevent the plane from heating more. The Tu-160 "Blackjacks" lit their afterburners and took off from the airbase. Armed with laser guided munitions, the planes were expected to hit strategic targets in the Gens Romae government and her military.

Behind the Tu-160's were Tu-95 Bears, turboprop driven planes which were a lot slower and older, and BM-335's (http://z11.invisionfree.com/Neucom_Equipment/index.php?showtopic=11), extremely large jet powered planes aged as much as the Bears. The BM-335's carried considerably more bombs than the Tu-95's but were slower and larger and much harder to maneuver. Both of the subsonic planes were given an unguided ordinance, as the planes were given the task of carpet bombing Gens Romae into submission and defeat. The large, bulky planes took off and followed the Tu-160's on nearly identical paths. Around the nation Il-78's flew with the bombers to refuel the strike planes and their escorts.

The Dominion has noticed recently that you have taken an interest in the nation of Gens Romae, currently bearing the brunt of a multi-national attack. One might ask, of your involvement; what is indeed the point of yet another joining the fray. Surely, the war's outcome is inevitable, and the majority of the land is divided even before battle has been met.

However superfluous your forces may be, we have no reason to deny you. Let it be known that the isle of Sicily is claimed and currently under assault by Pudite forces, and any foreign presence there will be regarded as an attack on the Dominion itself, no matter the intent.

Good day,

The situation was becoming more and more dire with each and every passing moment. Emperor Pudu had likewise declared war, and their own fleet was en-route. Nonetheless, the Imperator is confident in his own fleet, as well as the natural advantages afforded him. He summons his aids...

General IC, scene: The Mediterranean Sea, near the Straights of Gibralter:

The Straights of Gibralter: Truly, the gateway of the Atlantic into the Mediterranean. A relatively thin strip of water opening up into a vast abyss either way. The enemy would be coming in from the Atlantic, and would be vast. Yet, the Imperator is a genius!

The Roman fleet is commanded to form a semi circle around the mouth of the Straight, just inside of the Mediterranean. Any incoming fleet would be forced to come come relatively few by few, lined up through the straight. So even if a million boats were to come through, there wouldn't by any means be a million boats at any one time, and each passing boat would have every gun in the Roman Navy to greet him...relatively alone...while trying to pass through.

Nonetheless, the ship crews are uneasy, and on every boat, their men pray the rosary, hoping for some miracle. Yet, if only by history, they are given hope by the Battle of Lepanto. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Lepanto_%281571%29)

Meanwhile, the Imperator prepares every aircraft in his military to repel any incoming invaders...

Erusean Naval Aviation was not completely occupied in the battle for Route1. Though its fighters were occupied in that country, its bomber force was still ready. And they would strike a powerful blow against the Gens Romae fleet. Several officers walked together in the open across an airfield. They observed the Tu-22M3 Backfire bombers being armed with Raduga Kh-22 anti-ship missiles. Erusean Naval Aviation would send 550 of these planes, all armed with 3 Ragudas each at Gens Romae and smash the enemy navy before friendly fleets arrived. The Tu-22's lit their afterburners on take off, the grayish-blue aircraft lifted up slowly into the air and their wings gradually sewpt backwards.

The Tu-160 bombers ahead of them were ordered to slow down and allow the Tu-22M3's to pass them to engage the navy before heading on to the Gens Romae mainland. Tu-160 pilots looked beside them as the older Tu-22's pased them at Mach 2. As the pilots approached their firing range the semi-circle of enemy ships apeared on radar. The Tu-22M pilots flicked a few switches and activated the missiles. Their seekers acquired the targeted fleet, and then the planes launched their long-range Ragudas. All three missiles left from all 550 aircraft, adding up to a total of one thousand six hundred missiles heading towards the enemy. the Backfires all turned away and lit heir afterburners again, escaping from the fleet at Mach 2. The missiles lowered their altitudes and reached their top speed of Mach 4. The missiles each carried a 1000 kg warhead, and they each headed towards the ships of the enemy.

OOC: Basically the Soviet tactic of sending these supersonic planes and launching the long range missiles while the planes are safe from the fleet's AA fire, then turn away at Mach 2 so very few Air Force planes or carrier launched planes could follow. The missiles came in with great numbers, to overwhelm the fleet's defense.

To: Mr. White, foreign affairs officer
From: Ministry of Defense, The Glorious Republic of Leafanistan

We know of this war's true intentions, and as much as it shames us, it is completely necessary for our nation to begin taking territory in a somewhat imperialist fashion.

You call us and New Ausha scavengers, and to an extent that is true, we have seized upon the wounded prey that is Gens Romae, but unlike a vulture, we have paid the Mandalores a significant amount. We have made an agreement that we shall take Sardinia by paying the Mandalores billions in gold.

We have no interests in Sicily beyond its strategic value as an airbase for the enemy so we like to extend a courtesy to your nation. Our forces are stationed in the Middle East along the edge of the Mediterranean Sea and while we could move in Navally, we shall only move in via an airlift. Our aircraft will first clear Sicily instead of Sardinia, as a favor to your government.

We hope that this, along with the generous payment we have given to the Mandalores, is enough to guarantee our interests on Sardinia remain unmolested.

Is this arrangement suitable between our governments?

[END]

Leafanistani Fighter-Bomber Group, 2 hours from Sicily

"Switchback do you copy over?"

"Roger, what are your orders Tower?"

"To support our allies the Pudites, your airwing will be redirected to Sicily and given new firing solutions."

"Roger that Tower, we are in range for our cruise missiles if Sicily is our new target."

"Roger that Switchback, your group is authorized to fire on Solution Alpha-3 through Alpha-8, these are power generation stations for the island of Sicily."

"Roger that Tower, we are engaging with 1 missile each."

Cpt. Switch switched to his squadron frequency and broadcast the new orders and gave authorization for those who he felt should be firing.

As soon as he finished green lights went across his coordination screen and 5 cruise missiles streaked from their planes, each one independently targetting a power generation structure on Sicily. Each one wanting to take them out. Hopefully it would disrupt their antiaircraft weapons and allow them to take a corridor between Italy and Sicily to Sardinia.

That is when the plan changed again.

"Switchback do you copy? Over."

"Roger that Tower, do I have new orders?"

"Roger Switchback, new Orders, attack Molise, the targets should be in your computers already."

Cpt. Switch was angry. He hated change of plans like these, but he had to admit, it was a good idea, Molise would be a great stepping stone to Sardinia.

"Switchback, you are authorized to do a full release on Molise. Copy?"

"Roger Tower, we are go."

This was Cpt. Switch's favorite part, he had 45 cruise missiles left in his squadron and thanks to the electronics he knew there wouldn't be double fire.

He looked at the two cruise missile slots and decided he wanted first blood. He picked the capital of Molise, Campobasso, and selected the capital building there. For his second missile he picked a nearby motor pool for a military base. Hopefully the satellite and GPS data was right as he pulled the trigger and his plane lightened significantly as two cruise missiles rocketed out.

He watched as other cruise missiles left the other planes, each one heading toward a power plant, a government building, or a military installation. He and the rest of his squadron began to rise, heading toward maximum altitude as the enemy was sure to respond.

He turned his head to RADAR as some Lu-12EW Night Stalkers and their supporting aircraft were closing in. Probably to keep away high altitude SAMs before they descended on the enemy air force.

In the distance, multiple fighter planes were detected approaching. Immediately upon detection, all of the Roman Empire's aircraft were deployed (With the exception of the EH101s and Bombers) to stave off the threat. The exact numbers:

395 Agusta Attack Helicopters
225 Panavia Tornado Fighters
100 F-16 Fighters

Obviously, the Agustas would be no match to attack the fighters themselves. Rather, they wait near the ships, anti missile rockets armed...

And the mass of enemy fighters approach like a swarm of angry Africanized honey bees. The 325 quickly flew up to face the oncoming thread, firing hundreds of missiles up towards the bellies of the aircraft, timing it precisely when the opposing aircraft came to dive down to fire their missiles, so that they should be more or less unavoidable.

OOC: I'll post my naval defense to the missiles after you post your aircraft's defense to mine. I am assuming that the actual missiles fired and the like will probably change slightly.

IC in Sardinia:

Up until this point, Sardinia had been left more or less defenseless, and had been completely left out of the Imperator's battle plans. It is assuredly now something the Sardinians regret.

In an instant, with the onslaught of the enemy bombers, Sardinia is left completely without power, and left in a truly pitiable state.

In Rome, the Imperator recieves word of the Sardinians plight. He shakes his head, sighing. This is truly a no win situation for him. He gives commands to his aids:

Official telegram to Pudu, Leafanistan, and Neo Erusea:

The Imperator of Rome grudgingly offers the peaceful surrender of the outlying island territories of Sardinia, Corsica, and Sicilia in return for promises of peace and neutrality, and a withdrawal from this current war.

IC: The bombers all advanced on the target, they came across the Tu-22's again, fleeing for safetly like mad. Fighter escorts flew by the larger planes, to protect them, as multiple aircraft squaking friendly and foe on the IFF began to appear on radar. The Tu-160's had no defense other than speed and the escorts. It was decided that the escorts would dive down and join Leafanistan's forces in the dogfight while the bombers head a different course at twice the speed of sound to avoid the enemy fighters.

The Erusean government planned to bomb the Italian mainland and show to Gens Romae what the Glorious Republic's air forces were capable of before they negotiated.

My aircraft are launching missiles. But perhaps you do not understand... They are launching long range high-speed missiles from more than 100 miles away. And then they turn around and hit Mach 2 to safety. Nor do they ever dive to attack. They attack from over the horizon.

Ah, ok. In that case:

IC:

A great cloud of missiles are on their way to obliterate the Roman Navy. The entire air strength of the Roman Navy rises up, proceding far past the blockade itself, making their way towards the missiles, meeting them about halfway. The 700 or so aircraft fire their own missiles at the incoming ones, releasing 1500 or so missiles against the 1600 incoming, probably hitting 1200 or so of them. Leaving 400 remaining.

The blockade meanwhile watches what appears as though fireworks in the distance, lighting up the afternoon sky. Then they see the outlines of the remaining missiles coming in...

Immediately, the anti missile defense systems of the various ships come to life, sending missiles and AA fire into the sky to meet the incoming rockets...and hitting most of them.

Unfortunately, there were still enough missiles to claim the entirety of the previously wounded fleet, sending them beneath the waves. Only 4 of the 5 fleets now remain.

Thus, the Imperator decides on a new course of action.

The rest of the remaining surface ships begin to sail back to Italy, only the submarines remaining to blockade...

The Erusean bomber force used the missile distraction to the greatest extent. As the Air Force of Gens Romae was now busy refueling and rearming after their counterattack on the Tu-22M missile strike, the Tu-160's proceeded to outrun the Gens Romea fighters which were out to sea, engaging the anti-shipping missiles. The bomber pilots heard a nearly simoltaneous "beep" which indicated that they were nearing the Italian mainland. The planes split up and proceeded to attack the Gens Romae Air Force bases.

The bombers flew high over the clouds and fast, hoping to escape enemy missile envelopes before the enemy fired. They dropped their guided ordinance, which themselves had their own propulsion to extend their range, and the bombers turned back. The targets were the enemy air bases. Hopefully if these were disabled the enemy air force would have no where to go and would crash from lack of fuel and a place to land. Now to escape over the SAM envelopes that were probably lit and searching the skies for its prey...

The Eruseans had faced fairly little resistance from the naval blockade, the number of ships having been fairly small. However, when the enemy planes approach, they meet a terrain recently prepared for war. Concrete, barbed wire, bunkers, and artillery absolutely everywhere.

When they are within a couple hundred miles of the shore, Rome's rocket launchers spring to life, locating and locking onto her targets, and thousands of missiles and AA artillery are launched into the air against the incoming aircraft. On the land below, trucks and men scurry everywhere, the Marines and Coast Gaurd of Rome, reloading and handling the AA guns and Missile Systems.

Atlantic Ocean, Closing on the Straits of Gibraltar, Pudite Advance Fleet
Bazhenko Zaitsov felt the presence behind him before he heard his voice, a shorter but no less stocky man, dressed in the fine white uniform of the Imperial Navy. Bazhenko turned, it was an ensign. he spoke, "Colonel, sir. Admiral Timoshenko requests your presence on the bridge, he sounded urgent, sir."

The Colonel replied, "Where are we, sailor?"

"Sir, we're a few hundred miles off the Straits of Gibraltar,"

"How long 'till landfall?"

"I think that's what he wanted to see you about, sir. We've detected a fleet..."

A perturbed expression crossed the Colonels face, he gave a short growl of impatience, as if he couldn't think of the best way to phrase his obvious anger... "I'll be on the bridge..." He grumbled.

Bahzenko crossed the few hundred meters between himself and the command tower, and climbed up a series of short ladders to find himself in the battle bridge, merely a platform off the front of the command tower, covered by a sheet of armor and some Plexiglas.

Standing there, among others, was Fleet Admiral Timoshenko, looking out at the horizon. As the Colonel entered, he spoke, "Sir, You wanted to see me, regarding a fleet?"

"Indeed I did, we've detected a small fleet massing at the Straits of Gibraltar,”

The Colonel sighed heavily... He did not appreciate being left inside some ship, only able to wait and watch as he and his men are torn to pieces...

The Admiral continued, enjoying his comrades’ state, “However,” he began, a smile on his face, “They have fallen back, following an aerial attack by allied bombers,”

Bahzenko’s mood lightened considerably, “So, those scavengers are good for something... So, when will we hit beach?”

Timoshenko answered, his smile gone, “Well, we can’t be certain i they won’t rally somewhere before Sicily, so we’re still preceding with caution. I cannot say when we’ll make land, although if all’s left be, we could touch down in eight hours,”

The Colonel nodded, and the fleet continued...

Fighter Bomber Squadron nearing Italian Coastline

The Nightstalkers were about to join their air wing when suddenly the lead Nightstalker sent an urgent message via air SMS. It activated its massive RADAR package and suddenly the aircraft's screens all lit up.

"This is Squadron Leader Switchback, Nightstalker Sierra-Charlie how many does it look like?"

"Roger that Switchback, computer estimates around a thousand to twelve hundred."

"Christ, all attackers turn around, those things probably only have a range of 200 kilometers at most, we can easily make the last 50 or so."

"Roger, we'll stay ahead and spoof their package!"

"Roger that Nightstalker, I'll stay with you."

The entire squadron lit up their engines, hitting the afterburners and flying at over Mach 2 the opposite direction. As they did that the Nightstalkers retreated too except Switchback and the lead Nightstalker to attempt to jam the missiles.

At this range the missiles would run out of fuel and detonate, and they had a major lead, most likely the bulk of the squadron would be unharmed and they would return. After that kind of release, they were most likely out of long range missiles and the actual dogfighting could begin.

The Canaries roared away, leaving the two leaders behind to help secure their asses. The ECM package opened up, and suddenly Cpt Switch found his own RADAR blurring then compensating for the jamming, a testament to the well made Kreigzimmer electronics. Many of the missiles fell from the sky, a few streaked off to nowhere, following bad signals.

But a significant number were still coming, Cpt. Switch prayed none of his men had dared do anything but maximum speed to get out of the combat range. That is when he noticed a duo of missiles rocketing toward them. He stopped orbiting and broke out of formation. He ignored the Nightstalker Leader's worries and fired his Short-Range AAMs. The first one smashed headlong into the first Long Range AAM, while the second one changed trajectory for him. Cpt. Switch turned upward, the maneuverable airframe moving up, pressing his frail human body against the seat. He looked behind him and realized that the missile was just behind his tail. That is when it detonated and tore his plane in half.

He pulled the ejection seat as his radio made a loud squeal and suddenly he remembered nothing.

Meanwhile, the Nightstalker had left the area, pinging the last location of Cpt. Switch's plane in hopes of rescue. The air to air missiles had fallen from the air from out of range. Now the Lu-12 Canaries turned back, flying to nearly within range of their medium range missiles they let loose with their advanced Red Tidean built long range missiles to take down the enemy Tornadoes. They then broke up into Finger Four formations, and turned around again, at over Mach 2 to escape the battlefield and return with greater numbers.

-The land elements are on transports-

The fleet entered the adriatic, AA and ABM systems armed and ready. Cruise and Tomahawk missiles screamed off thier respective attack ships, striking enemy AA and Bunker emplacements. Warplanes stayed away from the shores, while helicopters and submarines preyed upon naval elements that had strayed from the coast.

OOC:

With all due respect: There are too many people in this particular rp opposing me for me to rightfully be able to keep up with the events thereof in a reasonable manner. The number of nations opposing and the strength of the nations are disproportionate. The chain of events leading up to the war, and even in the war itself, are incredibly confusing to me.

That said, I fail to see how our leaders have even had enough discourse with each other even to to create any real international awareness of my nation.

If y'all don't mind, I think I'll opt out of this particular rp. Perhaps later on?

OOC: ummmm...no. I am definately in on fighting you. How is it my fault that a bunch of people jumped in? Wanna close it with just a few exceptions? And plus, all of the joining nations were on your side...<_<

OOC: Actually, not really. Neo Erusea, Pudu, etc. were all opposed to me. Jarridia was for me, but he hasn't posted since yesterday. That's way too many people posting for me to keep up with, dammit.

However, I do suppose I'd be willing to go one on one. The fact that the war is disproportionate really doesn't bother me. Disproportionate I can do. Just too many people, dammit! :headbang:

OOC: Erm most wars in human history were disproportionant.... As for your confusion, it doesnt really matter mate, anyone is fair game in II. Look at the CA, they slaughter and pillage based on nothing, and they operate still today. Erm you cant really opt out. If you do, any other II threads you make will be spammed too hell by the nations who witnessed your OOC capitulation, and your country will be arbitrarily claimed. Wouldnt you rather go down swinging?

OOC: How about you take me in the air, and then hunt down my shot down pilot. Pudu and the others you can take at sea preventing them from landing. It really isn't that hard.

The war itself is secondary to the story.

IC: Cpt. Jack Switch woke up. He could see the coast ahead of him, his parachute a bright orange in the morning light. He started panicing, a bright parachute could mean they could see him and shoot him. He pulled a switch and watched the conductive fabric change to a darker avionic gray. He grabbed the controls and swung it toward the coast, hoping to land in the open field.

He fingered his personal RPDW that he bought before he left. He looked down at the compact KF15C Fulcrum and knew he would have to get out. He then looked at his transponder and chucked it into the ocean. They could find him that way.

Exactly, if there are more people, then there will be more posts. I'd prefer less posts. Which is to say, I'd like to get straight to the action, to the invasions, to the fighting, etc, which won't happen in any reasonable amount of time if there are more than 2 people posting.

OOC: I am in complete agreement with Gens Romae.

This war was cooked up in an attempt at Maldorian imperialism by myself and him. Now, everyone and their neighbor's dog is joining in...

Almost every one, too, seems set on proving to this young, weaker nation that they have more and bigger ships than the last invader, and so larger and larger fleets are sent to counter someone of little or no naval threat to any.

In short, I believe that a completely closed thread, between the Maldorian attackers and the Romae defenders, is in order. Everyone else was either onvited in by Maldorians against my judgement, or just popped out of the woodwork. I never wanted this to turn into this dogpile. (Although, Gens Romae is dealing with it in an extremely mature way.)

Now, this thread should be forgotton, and the new thread should pick up, before any attacking fleets entered the Med. Also, I believe that, since myself and Leafy, having sent only very small forces in a seemingly sincere interest only to RP, have more claim than most to participate.

Many may be allies of either party, but that matters little. We want to create a better, more fun RP, not the most gritty, realistic, un-fair war we can.

I will limit myself to the roughly fifty ships and 8,000 or so men I have already sent. Leafy can limit himself according to his own judgement.

Let this thread die, and let live the role-play I wanted this to be...
