In the Epoch System
" You know, I wonder if we will ever find anything." This came from a short, but far man, his cheeks red with blood. He sat in a chair, looking lazily at the ships' captain. The captain himself was the exact opposite of the other man, for he was tall, and thin. He also sat in a chair, but he was much more interested in the console in front of him. " Maybe we won't Xavier, but then again, our job isn't to wonder if we actually will find something, our job is to look for something. So, shut your mouth and do your job." Xavier mumbled and went back glancing at his console. Stupid kid, will he ever learn? Probably not. Smiling at himself, Liptor went back to reading the read-outs from the ships' sensors, so far, there wasn't anything promising. Of course, there hadn't been a major find in a long time. Despite the hundreds of survey ships, such as his own, and the thousands of wayward probes, there hadn't been a discovery of a new planet in nearly a hundred years. And that, Liptor knew, was begging to become a bug problem. The relentless mining had left most planet surfaces and asteroid fields stripped of their valuable resources. This left less and less to go around, thus causing exorbitant pricing and huge demand. This is turn led to a very shitty economy, and thus led to increasing rebellions every year. He continued to think about his Empire's increasing woes when he stumbled across a miracle.
It was indeed a miracle. The planet was massive, huge. It was a full twenty-five times larger than the largest current planet, Xios. It was a full 200,000 miles in diameter. And, from the initial geographical scans, the planet was a literal gold mine of resources. Then, Liptor blinked as the reports from the asteroid fields came in. They were also rich with minerals, but they were highly radioactive. It was so radioactive, that it was almost dangerous. Over the course of a few hours, a number of samples were analyzed. It was amazing. Qucikly, he send a message to the homeland. It would take weeks to arrive, and then more weeks for ships to arrive, but it would all be worth it, Liptor knew. With a planet this size and with this many resources, the full population could live easily on here. Liptor grinned. Yes, he would be a hero.
