The Last Aircraft (MT, Open)

Aboard Koenwitz Army Air Corps KV-52 "Himmelstoss", 115th Transport Regt.
Captain Edvard Erichsohn was tired. His arms ached with the effort of controlling the battered '52 transport plane. Little gusts of air buffeted his face from the bulletholes in the windscreen. His was the last Koenwitzian aircraft out of the old USSB. He was glad to be going home.
In the back was a mixture of reports, explosives and Jaeger troops. The men were huddled together in the unheated interior of the aircraft. Erichsohn tightened his flying jacket. Down below the steel-grey sea extended into a silvery mist.
"How far now?" he said, turning to his navigator, Fritz.
Fritz shrugged. "Unless I've forgotten how to navigate, we've got about an hour."
Edvard frowned. He couldn't see anything in this soup. He flicked the radio transmitter switch.
"This is H15 to base, I want a radio relay check on my position, over?"
"Roger that" The voice on the other end was muffled. "Should be a couple of minutes. Keep transmitting."
Edvard kept his thumb on the transmitter. He was dying for a drink. He was dying for his wife. It would be good to get back hom..
Edvard frowned again. For a second, he thought he had seen a very bright light appear in the centre of the soupy mist.
"Fritz, did you see that?"
"See what?"
The light appeared again. It was barely feet away from the front of the aircraft.
"That!" said Edvard, urgently.
"This is H15 to base, there's...something up ahe..."
The pilot was cut off mid-sentence
From Koenwitz News Online
A Koenwitz Army Air Corps KV-52 transport aircraft has disappeared whilst returning from Boico.
The aircraft was carrying the last few men of the 1st Koenwitz Expeditionary Force from the now-defunct Crepia Bridgehead, and was expected to return to Koenwitz within the hour.
An Air Corps representative said that they were completely baffled. The aircraft had been trasmitting regularly and its position had shown to be within 4 hours flying time of the Elzstadt coastline, but radio contact suddenly ceased.
The government said that it would issue a call for international aid in searching for the aircraft in due time...
The President was sat in his office facing out the window, a frown on his face as he looked out upon Tuya his once beautiful capital of his great nation and now the home of the currupt businesses trying to squeeze every last piece of paya out of the economy.
His aid came throught the door followed by two PIA agents, they were holding a brown folder sealed with the Highest Priority seal.
Henry:"Mr President we have an issue"
Preisdent Lee:"Like the other issues i deal with on a day to day basis" he moaned "leave me be henry"
Henry:"Sir...."
Preisdent Lee:"I said leave me be"
Henry sighed and walked over to the desk and put it on the desk pushing towards the end, to the back of the president
Henry:"I'll be outside if you need me"
The President sighed and span his chair round, he looked at the folder and opened it......
Preisdent Lee:"My god it just like the Colomba incident" he whispered too himself
Preisdent Lee:"HENRY........"
Henry ran in the room
Henry:"Yes Mr President"
Preisdent Lee:"Bring those gentlemen back in please"
The two PIA agents walked back in before henry come get them, they walked over and saluted the president
Agent 1*:"Hello Mr President I am agent Harris and this is Agent Molvina, we are from the Payian Intelligence Agency as you are fully aware we look at television broadcasts, radio transmission and such stuff from other countries to see if they pose a threat to us or other people..... we intercepted that television broadcast over three hours ago and with the incident of the Colobma it might be the same people."
Preisdent Lee:"We will wait for a full call for aid before we take action"

To coin a phrase, "one of our aircraft is missing".
At approximately 19:45pm, Koenwitz Standard Time, a KV-52 transport aircraft of our Army Air Corps which was returning from the former United Socialist States of Boico, disappeared somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean. The aircraft had kept in constant contact with its base here in Koenwitz and was estimated to be within two hours' flying time of home when all radio contact was lost. The pilot reported seeing something up ahead before disappearing from the airwaves.
At this time, the Koenwitz Air Corps is fully involved in our unfortunate war with the People's Republic of Urscreenhere, and as such cannot mount a full search and rescue attempt. We must therefore ask any willing nations who might have been monitoring this area, and/or are able to deploy search & rescue teams to aid us in the hunt for our missing aircraft.
Respectfully,
Major-General Kurt Ertz

AN OFFICIAL PROCLOMATION OF THE VDB. EVERYBODY BE QUIET AND LISTEN!!!!
Dear Koenwitz,
Despite the fact that we will be stretched because of this war () we will offer 10 helicopters manned by our 2nd finest commandos (as our finest are in the war) and we would like to receive permission to land at Theodorplatz Airfield to fuel up whenever we need to and to have temporary housing. Our prayers are with the crew.

Your commando and helicopter teams will have a warm welcome at Theodorplatz and have been assigned to Sector 2. Send them when ready. In return, once we have dealt with Urscreenhere, we would be willing to repay you for your kind offer in aid for your current conflict.

OOC: No worries
IC:
The Army would be pleased of your assistance in Urscreenhere and we will make preparations to dispatch an advance expeditionary unit to your country. We believe that the government is on its last legs, although the fighting so far has been much heavier than expected. Currently we have most of the east of the country in our control, excepting the capital, although an armoured column has reached a town in the southwest and is currently engaged in very severe fighting to control it. The four Search and Rescue helicoptors landed in their aproved sector at Theodorplatz Airfield the crews hurried to the fuleing stations and the Pilots steped off to the side "What do you think caused the plane to go down Major?" asked Captain Tom Bryant.
"I dont know but it seems what bothers me is that the pilot reported seeing lights and then there was complete radio silence."
"Do you think they could have collided with another plane?" asked Captain Wayne Norris
"It's highly unlikely I mean with all those ships down there some one would have heard the explosion and seen the fire ball even with all this fog." replyed Major Harrington
"This all may be a ploy to bring other Nations into their war" said Captain Jim Rose.
"I dont know but be very carefull out there I dont want to have to go searching for any of my own men." Major Harrington replyed
All crews reported that the Helicopters had been fully refuled
Major Harrington looked at his three Captains and their co-pilots
"You know the drill gentlemen we fly in pairs about 30 miles apart. Capt. Rose and I will be the lead and Capt. Norris and Capt. Bryant will trail. Maintain radio contact with each other at all times and be carefull out there." Major Harrington ordered.
The Captains and co-pilots saluted their commander and turned to report to their Helicopters. Major Harrington's heart raced as it always did before a search he said a quiet prayer as he powered up his helicopter and recieved clearence to take off. The team headed to the last known location of the missing Aircraft.

"Corporal?" asked Captain MacDonald.
"Yes sir?"
"Are the helis ready for takeoff?"
"Yes, sir."
The captain stood, staring into the forest since the fog had lifted up.
"And what do you make of this disappearance?"
"Well, something has to do with a lighthouse. For they saw a bright light. Yet, were they on the coast? If they where, it was possible that they ran into a lighthouse. Or, the light was a decoy. But, anyway, most likely the light was a trap. My guess is that somebody out there is holding those boys hostage. Most likely anti-government terrorists. Or, maybe, the USSB? The people they were fighting against?
"Good work, Corporal. That is what i think too. Now, let's go up there and get Koenwitz's boys back." said the Captain.
"Yes, sir. LIFT OFF IN ONE!!" screamed the Corporal. And they were off.

Major Harrington looked to his left and saw Captain Jim Rose's Helicopter about 50 yards from his.
"S1 to all units split up and go east and west fly low and slow scout the water for any debris or life rafts. Report your findings to me every hour but remain in contact with each other at all times." He ordered
"10-4" replyed all team members Harrington saw Captain Rose peel off headed west.
About and hour later Harrington's headset buzzed.
"S4 to S1 we have spoted a life raft floating about 20 miles souteast of the last known location of the aircraft" Captain Bryant reported.
"Send your rescue team to the raft and report back to me once you have them onboard"
"10-4 sir" Captain Bryant lowered his helicopter just above the life raft. His team droped their lines and repeled down to the raft.
Once both rescuemen were on the raft their hearts sank as it was not a military life raft but a fishing vessal raft and the two bodies in side had been dead for about a week.
"Airmen Grey to Captain Bryant these are not the men we are looking for but we have two dead fishermen here please advise"
"Bring them up they may be from Koenwitz we will hand over the bodies when we return to the airfield." Bryant lowered his rescue baskets and the crew in the raft when the bodies were lifted onboard and the crew returned to the helicopter Captain Bryant reported to Major Harrington.
"S4 to S1 the raft was from a fishing vessal the two fishermen inside are dead we have their bodies and will hand them over when we return to Koenwitz.
Major Harrington let out a long breath knowing that he should have not hoped that it would be this easy.
"10-4 Tom continue your search and report back." he ordered
Harringtons headset buzzed again
"S2 to S1 we have spoted an Island about 40 miles west it is possiable that some or all of the crew may be down there but it is covered in trees do I have permission to land and send in a search team?" Captain Rose asked
"Negative send the location to the other team members via GPS and await our arrivail I will inform Koenwitz ground control and get intel on the Island if there is any. I repete do not land untill the other the other team members get there."
"10-4 I have sent the location you should be receieving them now I will stand by." Captain Rose replyed
Major Harrington checked his GPS screen and changed direction headed to the Island. Harrington said another prayer and switched to the ground control chanel
"Major Carl Harrington to Koenwitz control"
"Go ahead" came the reply
"One of my team members has spoted an Island close to the disappearence site I am sending you the GPS information now please advise on the status of the Island is it friendly, hostle or unknown?"

"Why, hello Major Harrington," said Captain MacDonald. "We'll scout the island for you. My boys are bored."
Suddenly about ten helicopters pulled up beside the Tarsinian troops.
"So, what's your radio frequency? For we should stay in contact. And, you guys just scout out the area while we check out the island.

Response to Tarsinian/VDB events
Captain Yurich, the ground control commander at Theodorplatz, covered the microphone and picked up the telephone beside him, dialling quickly.
"Yes." The voice on the other end was Major-General Ertz. In the background Yurich could hear artillery fire. The general was still in Urscreenhere.
"General Ertz, I'm sorry to bother you, but the Tarsinians appear to have extended their search efforts to Gull Island..."
"WHAT!?" The general roared.
"...I'm...I'm sorry, sir, but it appears you did not specify the island's...special status to the foreign search teams..."
"Yes, well, you'll have to forgive me, I've been somewhat preoccupied!" A shell exploded in the background.
"What should I do, sir?"
"If it wasn't for this goddammned war we wouldn't have this problem. But no, the Feldmarschall always knows best. Get foreign aid in. FOREIGN AID! WE DIDN'T NEED FOREIGN AID BEFORE!"
"Herr General, I think you should calm down..."
"CALM DOWN..."
"Yes. Forgive me for being so forward, but the aircraft was sited about 40 nautical miles northeast of the island. It is possible the inhabitants had something to do with it. Perhaps, following the fall of Boico and the events in Urscreenhere they picked this moment to...to..."
"Christ, I hope not. Well, there's not much we can do about it now. Give them permission. Perhaps the Crown-Prince and his allies won't open fire. Perhaps this is just the opportunity we need to get rid of the old crone once and for all..."
"Sir?"
"Never mind, just do as I say. Ertz out"
The phone was slammed down before Yurich could reply. He replaced the reciever and returned to the microphone.
"To Tarsinian and VDB SAR teams, be advised the island's inhabitants, if they remain, are hostile to Koenwitz. However, as you are a neutral nation you should not be fired upon, and so if you feel it is wise to explore the island, you have our permission. We must find those airmen. Theodorplatz control, out."

Response to Payalian Transmission
To: Jeffery K. Jear, Payal Navy
The offer remains open. We deeply appreciate your help. The other foreign teams appear to have found a lead near Gull Island, a large landmass about 70 nautical miles northwest of Koenwitz's northern peninsula coastline. Be advised that the island has possibly hostile inhabitants. If they open fire you are clear to respond - the military force on the island should be negligable. We had hoped that the crash would not be linked to this location, but alas, it appears that our past is coming back to haunt us...
