An Era of Gods and Men

OOC: Okay, this is the RP thread for my Greek idea. First off, a few ground rules. Number one: Obviously, no God-modding. If you do it to bad, remember that I control the Gods. Hint hint, wink wink. Number two: Can you please at least try to have a reason for attacking people? For instance, I was bored, is not a good reason. Something like a holy Crusade works. Number three: Those of you with patron Gods, remember the more you ask, the more likely the Gods are to get pissed at you. It all depends on my mood really. Number four and the last: Remember, this is all in good fun, so please no arguing.
IC:The world is entering a new era, new world powers have arrived, the discovery of iron has changed the way men make war. New ship innovations have revolutionised trade and war, making it possible for the first time in recorded history to wage a decisive battle, and men now trade all over the world. All this new era lacks is a great ruler, and many strive to become just that. It is said that the Gods themselves will take part in this new power struggle. Tread carefully, for now the smallest drop could tip the scales. Welcome, to the Era of Men, and Gods.

Kenshin read the letter in front of him. So Emperor Shoa wished to meet with him? Hmm.. This might be interesting. He sent for his chaimberlan, "See that a feast is prepared, have the finest that we can offer made, we are going to be visited by Emperor Shoa. Also, summon the Shoguns, they should be here for this." He sat back in his chair musing, he wondered what this Emperor would be like. He wrote a letter to the man, telling him of his acceptance.

Kenshin gave a small bow, "Yes, my name, is Kenshin Himura, at least insofar as anyone knows. Please, let me introduce you to my Shoguns." He led him to 3 men, "This, is Sonoske Sagara, leader of the Bear Clan". He said, pointing to the largest man there, "This, is Entanchi Nokura, leader of the Clan of Sharks." He turned to the last man, a very tall, and skinny man. "And this is Rehaki Kilasha, leader of the Wolves". All three men gave a small bow to the Emperor.

Kenshin nodded his head to both of them, "Come, we have prepared a great feast for you. You will have the finest that we can offer." He led them into a great feast room, with many of the lesser nobles of Japan already seated. He led them to a great table in the center, reserved just for them. Several Geisha came over to take their orders. After Kenshin had ordered, he turned to Shoa, "So, my friend, why have you come"?

King Bartimaeus was out fishing. Royality or not, every man in his kingdom should do this at some point. It was most relaxing. He yawned, stood up and mounted his horse. He spured it back towards the palace grounds and through the dazzling jewel-encrusted portcullis. The silver-clad palace guard saluted as he passed. He took a seat on his throne.

He had heard of powerful city-states and empires overseas, but didn't have much care for them. As far as he was concerned, if they could co-exist peacefully, he wouldn't care what they did as long as he still had his land, his money, his people, and, of course, his fishing rod.

Dracia, city of commerce.

The rising sun glinted off the clay roofs and spires of the clustered buildings of the city-state. The dawn had barely begun but already the city was coming to life, the gates had been opened and a steady trail of farmers drove their livestock down the wide main street toward the filling markets. Huge wagons loaded with produce were already appearing on the streets, their vendors casually disrupting the flow of traffic in order to hawk their fruit and vegetables to the common people.

The merchants would arrive later, vast caravans of spices and cloth from the orient would mingle with wagons of iron, copper and lumber, gathered by the less civilised people in the northern reaches of the world. Such mountains of coin were gathered by the enterprising denizens of this city that wagons had been rumoured to break under the weight of their owners profits, when earlier they had stood up to the stress of whatever commodity they brought to trade.

The city militia were out in force too, the growing light reflected dazzlingly from the shining bronze of their helms and the bright colours of their breastplates and greaves betrayed the authority they held from a long distance away. These men held the city in a tight grip from the common thief and looter, as well as the armies of other, more jealous states if need be, while their plainer and leaner counterparts in the government oversaw all of the trade within the city. It was said that a man could be executed for falsifying his scales, such was the distaste for dishonest merchants here, although a heavy fine was more likely, all the better for filling the city's treasury.

The wharves of the docks district were slower to come out of their slumber, the creaking of wooden ships of all nationalities and the gentle splash of waves would serve to rouse their wealthy occupants in a more comfortable fashion than the common people of the city. But even this area would become a rush of activity before noon, as new arrivals docked and unloaded their cargo and others hastened to depart before the arrival of the dockmasters and their officers to collect another days mooring charges. The wide, cobbled road to the docks would see many hurried merchants footsteps trying to beat the collectors to their boats, while the waterfront taverns would be kicking out the lesser crew members from their cheap accomodations.

Behind the inner walls of the keep, the High Merchants palace lay as still as a sanctum, even while the government buildings around it came to life with the running of the city and the temple to Hermes echoed with the footsteps of the priests who prayed and offered sacrifices of ox, corn and wine daily to appease him and bring fair, coin-laden winds. So far, he had been good to them.

Within the palace, the High Merchant himself, Lord Salere paced the quiet halls of his living quarters, awaiting the arrival of a few of his supporters amongst the council members, and there were many. Later today they would meet with the ship builders to discuss the progress on the two war galleys they had commisioned to guard the waters of the Aegean Sea where they were sailed by Dracian ships and drive off the pirates who had become more persistent as of late. They would also discuss in private with Lord Salere, the launch of his personal dhow, paid for by the city. There were plenty of advantages to being in power, and the High Merchant had a taste for beautiful things.

OOC:No problem mate.
IC: In Dracia, a ninja by the name of Kyoto Hikara, was searching around, disguised as one of the locals. He was a novice ninja, so didn't do a very good job of it. He had been sent by Kenshin to figure out the best way to move in on the amazing market. There was much gold to be made here, much gold indeed. Right now, he figured the best way to do it at the moment, would be to send in tradeing ships, to bring delicacies and luuries found only in Japan. It was his job to discover where the markets were most ripe for the plucking.

Hikara managed to catch the eye of one of the wealthier and shrewder merchants, who watched the young man for a while, noting that he wasn't really sure what he was doing. Still, he was dressed reasonably well, in the local fashion oddly enough, and Darez Alexander was bored.

"Hey, you! Come sit with me for a while, I grow tired of only my guards for company."

He indicated a padded chair beneath a brightly coloured canopy, set on the table in front of them was a bowl of sherbet and a sheaf of parchments which he quickly shuffled away.

"So, what business are you in?"

Kenshin nodded, "I see. Well, I suppose we might be able to work something out. The western people do indeed pay well for our commodities. Were you thinking a trade federation"? He fingered the katana at his belt. "Empereror Shoa, would you happen to know swordsmenship"?

Kyoto looked at the trader, he was instructed not to reveal his identity unless neccesary. He walked over and sat down. "I am just a normal citizen, Sho-, er my Lord I work a uhm, a, I own a pub, my Lord.. My name is.." He realised that he didn't know any local names, "Uhm, Kyo, my Lord. My name is Kyo".

Yes,why was you think of a friendly swordfighting match said Emperor Shao
Mereshka
24-06-2007, 04:47
Kenshin nodded, "You said you wish to learn more of our culture. A major part, is the art of the sword, that it is. And do not worry my lord, I carry only a reverse blade sword, that I do, and that makes it difficult to injure. So, what do you say"?
Angaor
24-06-2007, 05:05
I accept your offer only dont will a reverse blade and so to make it fair i wish that you to will a deadly weapon,Ji bring me my Dao said Emperor Shao
Mereshka
24-06-2007, 05:13
Kenshin drew his sabaktou, and grinned, "I can make this deadly, all I need to do, is flip it over, like this." He turned the blade around, and the side down was now the sharp one. He flipped it back, "However, the styles I use are designed to kill, so for safety reasons I use this. So, unless my life is on the line, I use a sabaktou."
Angaor
24-06-2007, 05:20
Alright then said Emperor Shao

he got in his stance and wielding his Dao wanting Kenshin to attack first
Mereshka
24-06-2007, 05:23
Kenshin laughed, "This is not the sparring room, that it is not. Here, let me lead you to the room". He sheathed the sword and motioned for Shoa to follow him. "So, what style do you use"? He asked him on the way.
Angaor
24-06-2007, 05:28
well as you may know most chinese martial arts dont utilizes the sword well enough but i use Chāquán,what style do you uses said Emperor Shao
Mereshka
24-06-2007, 05:35
Kenshin led him around a corner, "Well, in my lifetime, I've managed to master two techniques. The Hiten Mitsurugi style, and the Botojutsu. Have you by chance heard of them"?
Angaor
24-06-2007, 05:40
yes,I have heard of the Hiten Mitsurugi style and its lighting fast techniques, but
botojutsu i have never heard of maybe you should educated me on this style after the battle said Emperor Shao
Mereshka
24-06-2007, 05:43
He nodded, "Then I will content my self with the Hiten Mitsurugi, since it would not be honorable to fight using a style you do not know." They arrived at a large, plane door. "Ah, here we are, please enter". He opened the door to a large, spacious room without furniture. He walked to the other end of the room, frew th sabaktou, and assumed his stance.
Angaor
24-06-2007, 05:49
Very well then said Emperor shao

He took out his Dao and assumed his stance awaiting for Kenshin to attack
Mereshka
24-06-2007, 06:01
Kenshin rushed torwards him, watching him very carefully for any signs of movement. One major element to the Hiten Mitsurugi style was to predict the enemies movements, and compensate for it. Right before he would have lashed out, he tried dashing to the fight in order to hit him with a side swipe.
Angaor
24-06-2007, 06:04
Shao dodge by doing a cekongfan Then he try to slash out with his sword to catch kenshin.he was trying to defeat Kenshin with Chaquan graceful and Aerobatic Movements beacause he knows how fast kenshin style from a story told by his father

24-06-2007, 06:07
Kenshin dodged the swipe, ducked and tried an upward slash.

Mereshka
24-06-2007, 06:24
Kenshin barely managed to dodge, leaping to the side to avoid the kick, and jumping for the slash. He tried a downward slash while in the air, missed, and landed behind him, where he tried an overhand swipe. This was more challenging than he thought it would be, he was actually starting to have fun.
Angaor
24-06-2007, 06:38

Mereshka
24-06-2007, 06:39
Kenshin blocked the swipe, and decided to get serious. He initiated a complicated flurry of slashes, stabs, and swipes, all going as fast as he possibly could.
Angaor
24-06-2007, 06:45

you are a great swordsman, one of the best i have ever seen said Emperor shao
Mereshka
24-06-2007, 06:47
Kenshin bowed back, "As are you, it has been a long time since I have had to do that, that it has. You lasted much longer than most would. Now, would you like to learn about Battojutsu"?
Angaor
24-06-2007, 06:49
yes,I would love to here about battojutsu said Emperor Shao
Mereshka
24-06-2007, 06:53
Kenshin nodded, and got into position. He gripped the hilt of his sword, still in the saya. He put his right foot forward, "Bottojutsu is the art of unsheathing your sword, and attacking in the same motion. One important thing to remember is to always keep the right foot first, so that you do not cut off your own foot, are you following me"?
Angaor
24-06-2007, 06:57
yes said Emperor shao

Shao watch and followed him he assumed the same stance as him to try it he awaited further instructions
Mereshka
24-06-2007, 07:07
Kenshin nodded, "The entire point of this, is to kill, or incapicitate, with one strike. Drawing and striking in one motion elevate the speed of the strike beyond that of even Hiten Mitsurugi, some even call it 'Godspeed'. Although it seems like a very simple technique, and it is, in its base, there are many aspects to master." Very suddenly he slashed out of the saya, much faster than he ever had with the Hiten mitsurugi. "Now, you try."
Angaor
24-06-2007, 07:11
Emperor shao try and he slashed with a medium speed and said

It is harder than it looks said Emperor Shao

24-06-2007, 07:16
Kenshin laughed, "Oh do not worry, it is not an easy thing to learn, that it is not. Now, would you like to discuss the treaty you spoke of"?
Angaor
24-06-2007, 07:26
Yes we should,I would like to increase trade between are too nations by at least 25% also we would like to allow Japanese ships to dock in our ports for free and use are land routes with out any trouble of course we would like the same treatment. Also i think we shoud include defense to come to each nations side if attack. Also i invite you to come to my country where we will be have the Chrysanthemums festival which will be held three weeks from now and maybe we could have hand to hand fight which is my strong suit in our spare time said Emperor Shao
Mereshka
24-06-2007, 07:32
Kenshin grinned, "That sounds good, that it does. I agree to all of these terms, but I also offer one more: I wish you to take my daughter to foster, so that she may better understand you nation should she ever become leader, should my son die. Do you except this"?
Angaor
24-06-2007, 07:37
yes,I will accept your daughter to come back with us i will have my servants prepare quarters for her also may i ask how old your daughter is so we can have
dress made for her for the festival as quick as possible said Emperor Shao
Mereshka
24-06-2007, 07:39
"My daughter is 12 years old. But, she is rather short for her age, so make the dress slightly smaller. So, when do you leave? I will have to inform my Shoguns, and everyone else."

24-06-2007, 07:42
we will be leaving two days from now i would like to tour the country for a day and plus it give your daughter time to pack said Emperor shao

Kenshin thought for a second, "Well, the Clan of Bears, they have all the major crafts, such as smithing, mining, and carpentry. The Sharks have trading, fishing, and cooking. The Wolves are my native clan, and we are the warriors. Most of the military is made up of Wolf clansmen, that it is. So, what do you think"?
Angaor

The merchant smiled as he watched the foreigner think quickly, he wasn't exactly sure what to make of him yet, but decided to go out on a limb.

"I'm Darez Alexander, I trade furs and pelts from the north, I'm sure you've heard of me of course, if you live here."

He shifted on his chair and leaned a little closer to Kyo.

"If you don't though, as I suspect, you might as well re-introduce yourself, there's no law against foreigners here." He grinned wickedly. "Not even foreign merchants, although we prefer it if they would trade in a way that is... mutually beneficial to us."

King Bartimaeus had his nobles, adivsors, cheif merchants and sons in the throne room.
"We need to attempt to start diplomatic relationships with other countrys, for trade and such. However, which one would be most benificial?" He looked around the room at his assembled council. They all had blank faces.
"No one? Imbeciles... Here, then, let's see..." He pulled out a bound book that his court diplomats had prepared for him, regarding the other nations.
"Lets see now..."

"All the way from Mereshka, eh? I have not seen your lands myself but I hear tell of fearsome warriors and clans hailing from there."

The middle aged merchant smiled, his wrinkles splitting slightly as he contemplated the benefits of opening trade with Mereshka. The land and its resources were completely untapped for western trade, and he smelt profits.

"I am always looking to expand Dracian trading horizons, and I have a healthy supply of capital also, perhaps I can help you. But what goods does Mereshka have to offer? There is wide and varied demand here in the city, and throughout Greece for the novelties of the east."
Mereshka
24-06-2007, 20:23
Saya bowed to the three other men, and then Kenshin nodded, "Yes, we may go now. I hope you do not mind walking? This way, to the Bear Clans territory." He started walking in the Northern direction.

Kyoto nodded, "We have plants and animals, fish and spices not found anywhere else in the world. Not even in other places in the east can you find what we offer. Now, what do you offer unto us for these riches"?

They soon arrived in the most prominint town in the clan, it was the second largest town in Mereshka. The sounds of men going about their work filled the air, the clangs of smithies, the chopping of carpenters, and countless other sounds. "This, is Naraka, the biggest and most productive town in the clan. What do you think"?
Angaor
24-06-2007, 20:41

"Well," The king said, waking his council out of their near-sleep, "it seems obvious. Just send diplomats to everyone! That way, we might get more trade and more money! Yeah, I'm a bloody genius..." As the king trailed away into incoherent self-praise, his eldest son, Prince Nathaniel, walked out and over to the palace docks.

"Prepare a ship for me, I am going to try and establish diplomatic relations with..." He pulled out a coin and a map. He threw the coin up into the air. It landed on Dracia. "These chaps." He boarded the boat and waited for it to leave the dockside. Around an hour later it did.
Naasha
24-06-2007, 21:21
The older man laughed at Kyoto's forwardness.

"That is not usually how we do business. There are two ways of going about trade with Dracia. One is to simply sell your goods to me and my company, once we've assessed their value of course, and then we will ship them back to the city and sell them in the open market here. That may be sensible for you, since you easterners may not be familiar with Greek practices."

"Otherwise, your merchants can bring their goods here themselves and trade, after taxes of course. It would be a riskier venture, but..." Darez shrugged, "each to their own."

****

Prince Nathaniel's ship would meet with fair weather and placid seas as it headed toward the city-state. Its crew would also notice that a good majority of the trading ships they past were armed or escorted, yet no Dracian warships seemed to be present. The waters around the city were suffering more and more pirate attacks, a growing concern for the merchants of Dracia.
Mereshka
24-06-2007, 21:24
Kyoto looked around nervously, "Well, is there a way to combine them a bit? For instance, sell to you what we really don't want to take any risks with and have merchants come with the lesser items"?
Void Templar
24-06-2007, 21:31
The ship passed over the smooth waters, and just as the city state came into view, one of Nathaniel's guards came up to him.
"M'lud. You notice the lack of any actual warships to defend their waters?"
"Yes... but look at these trader's ships, they're like a fleet in their own right."

The trieme pulled up into the harbour, and Nathaniel stepped out, along with a guard. He looked around to see if he could spot any symbols of authority. He saw a milita member and walked up to him.
"Excuse me, sir, but could you direct me to the residence of the ruler? I am here for diplomatic negotiations."
Naasha
24-06-2007, 21:51
"Why, yes of course! You may do as you will, I am merely making suggestions."

Alexander smiles brightly and surveys the throng of brightly dressed people in the market place ahead of them, this is one of the wealthier areas of the city.

"Why don't you take one of my associates back to Mereshka with you? He can advise you on what will sell in Dracia and what you would be best trading elsewhere."

****

The militia man gave him an odd look for a moment, before noticing the guard and the expensive vessel he had stepped off.

"Oh, I must apologise, I wasn't made aware of your impending arrival, sir. I would direct you to speak to one of the merchants council."

He indicated a wide, cobbled road, leading away from the docks.

"Take that road and follow it to the inner walls, you can see them from here. Once through the gatehouse you'll see a large stone building with a red clay roof and a fountain on the garden before it. That is the High Merchant's residence."

Ten minutes later, Prince Nathaniel arrives at the High Merchant's house, the doors are open and the foyer is busy with people. After introducing himself to a secretary, the prince is shown into a fairly well decorated, mid-sized room of the palace. A slightly harried looking man enters and indicates that Nathaniel and his guard should take a seat.

"My name is Lord Avalcon, what can I do for you, sir?"

Nathaniel sat down, whilst his guard remained standing with a slightly disdained look. "Greetings, Lord Avalcon. I am Prince Nathtaniel, son of King Bartimaeus of the Kingdom of Templaris. I wish to arrange a treaty between our nations, for trade and the like. An olive branch, if you will. I'm sure such an arrangement would benefit both our nations mutually. We have some intresting things in the way of materials, armour, weapons, etc."

Kyoto nodded, "Okay, do you have any specific merchant you would wish to send with me"?

Darez Alexander nodded his head.

"I am afraid it will take me a while to find the man I had in mind, though. Are you staying at an inn here in the city?"

****

The official seemed to brighten up once he realised who he was dealing with, perhaps this was worth some prestige amongst the council, arranging a trade agreement and diplomatic relations with another kingdom.

"Of course, my prince! Peace and trade with Templaris would be a great boon to our city, I'm sure. Templaris is not so far away either, is it? Perfect for a trading partner, even an ally."

He calmed down slightly after a moment.

"I forget myself, though. I will send for a scribe to formalize the peaceful relations that exist between our nations. I am sure our merchants will be pleased to hear of a new source of goods and markets to trade in."

Kyoto nodded, "Yes, I am staying at an inn in the northwest section of town. It is made after the fashio of Mereshka, you can't miss it".

"Very well, I shall send my associate over this evening if that is acceptable?"
Mereshka

He nodded, "Yes, that would be acceptable. Now, I'm going to go to my inn, if you'll excuse me".

Nathaniel grinned. It appears this will go well, he thought.
"Thank you very much. I look forward to trade between our nations. As a token of friendship," he signalled to his guard who produced a curved scimtar engraved with the sentence, Beatus exsisto Pardus. He took it from his guard and offered it hilt-first to the merchant. "Please take this blade. Even if you don't find a military use for it, I'm sure it will fetch a good price."

Avalcon took the scimitar and appraised it at length. He was slightly annoyed by the prince's casual reference to selling his gift, but he knew Dracia's reputation probably warranted it.

"I am no expert, but this is a fine piece. You have my utmost thanks."

Nathaniel smiled and left the building. He walked back to his boat with his guard following.
"Nice city, quite shiny."
"Yes..."

The trieme cut through the stormy waters outside Templaris' harbour. It eventually got the the pier and was tied up. Nathaniel and his guards got off the ship.
