Journey to The City

"Wake up, children. Today we're going to go to The City."

It was a rather gloomy, overcast day, a fairly ordinary day by most accounts. The sky was totally devoid of life, which was a sight most RKers had become used to, the birds having left RK decades ago. The dark clouds in the sky spoke of rumblings of a light shower.

The Sabia Tribe's citadel was small at best, but it had been home to Jessica Radcliffe and her daughters Patience and Hope for her entire life. Her parents had defected from the biggest settlement in RK, the Saint-Martin Block, after their shack was devastated b the Savage Ones.

The Savage Ones were feared throughout the nation; at first sight they looked just like ordinary humans, but a close inspection yielded a strange pallor-like quality to their skin, a reddish tint to their eyes and a savage, primitive temperament. Nobody knew exactly what had created the Savage Ones, or even why they harassed the normal humans, but they were numerous, powerful and persistent.

The children awoke slowly, rubbing their eyes. "The City?", Joy, the younger of the two sisters at just about eight years of age, said, "Isn't that where all the monsters live?".

Jessica sighed. "No, sweetie - the DeVerdi gang ran them out last week. They've opened it to the public now."

Patience sleepily muttered, "The Savage Ones have been cleared out of The City. It's still in ruins though, but they've put up walkways and are considering restoring it, if they can find people with the right skills to rebuild it.". Patience, at fifteen, was the elder of the two. She had long flowing blonde hair and was dressed in an elaborate (for Sabian fashion) fabric dress. The other two were in rags salvaged from the Old RK towns.

The three left their shack. Sabia Prime was comprised mostly of wooden shacks like theirs; even the Sabian residences were fashioned crudely - there just weren't any skilled builders around. They walked out of the wooden gate which formed the only interface between the peaceful Sabian existence and the dangerous perils of the Savage World.

OOC: This is set about a century after the last RK RP. As you can see, a massive event has happened that has totally changed the nation for the worse; the details of this will be revealed in the RP. I'm not expecting anyone to join in on this, but this is an open RP and thus anyone *can* join. However, I'm fine with being on my own.

By sunset the small party had reached what had become known as "The City". The entrance into the ruins of the massive structure seemed to be nothing more than a hole blasted into one of the buildings, with a crude wooden structure built across it.

The City would have been beautiful had it not been for its atrocious condition. Immediately visible from the entrance was a monorail track with its supports set into the entrance building. At at least one point the supports had broken and the track had bent downwards. A monorail car laid beside the path, smashed in.

"Apparently, the DeVerdis have just cleared out the centre tower," said one bystander to another, "They say they've found information on the Old Country."

"What did they find out?"

"For starters, this city was originally called Acoria, and was the capital of the country."

"Really? I thought it was just a city-structure, nothing more."

"There's more. You see where the ditch is? A river used to flow there many years ago. They used to filter their water from it."

"What happened to it?"

"No idea."

A man wearing dark sunglasses and what seemed to be excessive amounts of fake tan on his body (both probably scavenged from Acoria) stepped up to the trio. "Would you like a free guided tour of The City?", he asked. Jessica nodded affirmatively, realising she knew very little of the place, and the three distanced themselves from the crowds and entered the complex.

[OOC: It's going to take a very, VERY long time for this to reach even a national level of importance, let alone international. The main reason I'm starting off like this is to try and set up a new line of continuity for RK from which I can start other roleplays]
