Diplomatic communiqué

As we recently established diplomatic connections between The Socialist Kingdom of Kopparbergs and The Kingdom of Shredderstan, we agree with you that a visit by our Head of State, Prime Minister Werner Moltov, would be beneficial for the both of states.

However, as Mr. Moltov is busy with another conference abroad at the moment, we would like to send our Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Åke Stålhandske, to Shredderstan. We wanted this to be an official State Visit, but unfortunately it couldn't be done this time. We hope that Mr. Stålhandske will do this time. Mr. Stålhandske is well known with the recent Hegemony-crisis, and he attended to the peace-conference in San Diego.

I have just heard the news of you coming to our nation. Let me say that I was quite the ecstatic maniac when I heard of it (You can even ask the Queen!) While it would have been wonderful to have the Prime Minister over, I completely understand the situation. However, ask the Prime Minister if any of his family members would like to come, as we have marvelous beaches for them to be in.

Well, I will be sending my private jet over shortly. It will be filled with refreshments, but if you have any special requests, please do not hesitate to do so. The jet will also have movies, specifically the James Bond and Lord of the Rings movies (they're a personal favorite) but you may bring any DVDs you want aboard.

I'm afraid that the Prime Minister's family is unable to come with me on this trip, but they commissioned me to look up the opportunities to build/buy an exclusive resort for the members of the government of Kopparbergs in Shredderstan. I'm sure you can assist me with that!

I'm planning on staying ten days in Shredderstan (I'll leave Kopparbergs the day after tomorrow), and I'm sure that this will be fruitful for both of us.

I'll manage the practical things with the airport outside our capital (Kopparberg), so they will be waiting on your plane – you just have to radio in and they'll let you land immediately.

You will be staying in the Royal Province of Shredderstan (the area in the red) which has most of the hustle and bustle going on. However, I would like to suggest the island called Lopot in the northeast quadrant. It's a vibrant island, with a tourism based economy. There's five acres that have not been built on surprisingly, and a good area for a resort as it is surrounding much of the attractions of the island.

I have just sent my private jet to Kopparbergs. It should reach it in a couple of hours at most.

OOC: Just out of curiosity, who is this guy Adam Stevens? The president, or a minister, or what does he do for living?

After a nice 4-hours flight the Shredderstanian plane with Stålhandske on board landed safely in the capital of Shredderstan.

Stålhandske enjoyed the flight, and he was now well rested. He was looking forward to tighten the connections with the Kingdom of Shredderstan. He felt that this trip would be the start of something fruitful for both Kopparbergs and Shredderstan.

When he entered the airport terminal the delegation from Shredderstan was waiting just inside the doors.

King Stevens quickly came to greet the secretary. "Ah there you are. You look pretty well rested there. I'm assuming the trip went well, sir? Eh, it probably did. After all, you WERE in one of the best private jets I have ever seen."

The King, in all of his excitement, had not let the Secretary talk. "Oh Lord, I haven't let you say a peep have I? Well I guess we must be going now, come along, there's quite the thunderstorm coming and Roger the chauffeur doesn't really like to drive in the rain. Your things will be brought to your suite in the Royal Paradise Hotel, room 260. It's quite a big room, so enjoy yourself there. The Shredderstan police force will be surveying the area for much of your stay so please, do not fret about that."

"No, problem! You're the king - this is your country! You're allowed to speak all the time!" said Stålhandske and laughed. "Thanks for the trip in your plane, it's really awesome!" he said and took Stevens hand.

He followed the others to the car, and before he sat down he looked at the sky. "Wow, it's really dark. I'm glad I'm not in a plane now..."

While they drove to the hotel Stålhandske and Stevens chatted about this and that. After a while his face was turning serious. He asked: "Well, Stevens, do you know if they did the disband the Hegemony alliance? We sent a recommendation to everyone in the Hegemony that they should leave the alliance for their own safety."

"No, problem! You're the king - this is your country! You're allowed to speak all the time!" said Stålhandske and laughed. "Thanks for the trip in your plane, it's really awesome!" he said and took Stevens hand.

He followed the others to the car, and before he sat down he looked at the sky. "Wow, it's really dark. I'm glad I'm not in a plane now..."

"Well, I just wanted to know out of curiosity. I believe that the only two nations suffering from the San Diego Talks were Lord Sumguy and Cazelia, at least as far as I know. Ok, I'll make my self comfortable in my suite then. I assume we'll meet again in the morning Mr. President, we have a lot of things to talk about. Good night to you too, Stevens, really nice to meet you in person!" Stålhandske shook Stevens' hand again, and went out of the car.

OOC: OK, that's what I thought. And it's not really closed, but it may be hard for someone to make a IC-reply because we're the only ones here...

After a good nights sleep in the luxury suit Stålhandske was again feeling well rested. He took a long, nice shower, shaved himself and ordered some breakfast from the room service. "And make sure the coffee is hot and strong, no cream." he told the room service guy. He loved coffee, but it had to be both strong and really hot.

Half an hour later he was again sitting in the backseat of a car – he was going to have the first real meeting with Mr. Stevens. He had some points to discuss with Stevens, and one of the first should be to offer a mutual defense alliance.

"Ahh...you look quite well rested. Did your room get warm blankets delivered to your room like I requested? Oh gosh, I'm getting ahead of myself again. I'm really sorry. You were saying about a mutual defense pact?" said the king.

Stålhandske nodded in agreement.

"Well I can't say that I wasn't expecting that...since some of the pundits here were thinking that, but I have to say, I would be for it. The time for cowboy diplomacy, where we all fend for each other, is over. The threats are great, and the threats are real. While diplomacy must always be first, there are other cases in which a nation(s) must defend its honor from the Powers That Be. Therefore I agree to this, and will call in my advisers to watch the proceedings, if you don't mind of course."

"Certainly, Mr. Stevens. This is an important thing, and it have to be correct from the beginning. So tell me, Mr. Stevens. When this alliance is settled, would you be interested in letting Kopparbergs build a naval base somewhere in Shredderstan? The reason is of course that you're an island nation, and if we have a naval base there, it's easier for us to help you with your national defense."

Stålhandske took a zip from his coffee and leaned back in his armchair.

"Sure," said the king, "the best choice would be in the island known as the "Royal Island Of Stevens." Though a relatively large portion is about to be used as a refugee camp for Tatomians escaping the current crisis, there should be enough space to have a good naval base. It's also quite close to the centre of Shredderstanite life, so that could be another reason for you to have one there."

"Okay, the Royal Island Of Stevens will probably suit well" said Stålhandske and took a close look at the map.
"How big should the naval base be? Do you want a medium, large, or huge size? Medium will probably be enough to defend the area around the island and the strait, but they will not be able to provide defense too far away from the base. I would recommend at least the large size – then we will have at least one carrier battle group at the base, hence it can provide defence to all of your islands (but maybe not at the same time)."

"In the meantime I would have to say to have a large naval base," said the king, "until the refugees are all out of course though."

"Ah Mr. Stålhandske, these meetings must sadly come to an end. I have just been informed of something I must attend to immediately. Best of luck, my friend, and say hello to the leader for me will you?" President Stevens told Stålhandske

"Of course, I understand Mr. Stevens!"

Immediately after the meeting was over, Stålhandske rode back to his suite and began to communicate with the Chairman of the Red Military Forces, General Cornelius Sjöcrona.

The preparations for the new naval base was already done, it was decided what kind of ships (as a matter of fact – exactly which ships) should be moved to the new base, and who should be the responsible General in Shredderstan. A large fleet was ready to take off within 24 hours, and a large amount of engineers and construction workers left the port in Ystad, Kopparbergs, together with the fleet. Once they arrive at the Royal Island Of Stevens, Shredderstan, they will assist the constructions workers from Shredderstan with the new base.

"Of course, I understand Mr. Stevens!"

Immediately after the meeting was over, Stålhandske rode back to his suite and began to communicate with the Chairman of the Red Military Forces, General Cornelius Sjöcrona.

Just as the decision to not build the naval base reached the populace, people of all ages went to protest in front of the Royal Paradise Hotel clamoring for the envoy to do something to change the king's mind
