The Virtus Shield (Alacean SDI & Nuclear Program)

Connor Landico was an honorable man. He worked in the local mine, under the Covrenic Mountains. He mantained a large family of five and a house outside of the city of Covren. Today, in the shaft, everything was normal. Until, as Connor hacked into the earth, he heard a faint rumbling. It grew louder and louder, until it became unbearable. The wave of energy became a roar. Landico collapsed, his muscles rendered useless. Several jagged rocks fell from the ceiling, piercing his stomach. Before he could let out a yell, Connor Landico was dead.

Alacea had gone nuclear.

'Virtus' Satellites Like These Will Soon Be Orbiting Earth

A new age and new responsiblities
Alacea unveils SDI, Nuclear Program

Virtus was both the Roman and Alasian god of military might, valor, and bravery. Now, it is a missile shield that covers most of Alacea. The progect (unveiled at a press conference yesterday) has been part of a 12 year progect worth over one trillion dollars. The new Alacean nuclear weapon silo was also unvelied yesterday, little is known of it yet but it is known to hold at least 1200 nuclear weapons- and the stockpile is growing at an incredible rate. It was tested in the Covrenic mountains, causing only two casualties.

But on the topic of the Virtus once more. The shield protects most of mainland Alacea and is concentrated in Acaria, and went online yesterday at midnight. But you still don't know how it works! The military has provided us with the following basic plan: 1) Enemy missiles or progectiles are launched in an offensive attack. 2) Various Alacean satellites and arrays detect the attack, and relay signal to main database (which is in an classified location). 3) Alacean countermissiles are launched from satellites, ground, and other locations, if needed. A counterstrike is launched.

Virtus is actually part of a larger progect, known simply as 'Calypso'. It will, alledgedly, one day be a massive system that provides anti-air, naval, and anti-progectile security for Alacea and her colonies.

OOC: So, this is my SDI and nuclear stockpile. All I'm looking for is a reply, condemnation, congrats, etc.

And I'd like to know the feasibility of Virtus, space warfare/missile shield junkies. Thank j00.

OOC: Hmm....*readies armed forces* What sort of bizarre name should I give to your invasion thread? How about Operation: Itchy Pirate?

And, oh, you might some chemical laser satellites scattered in orbit elsewhere to shoot down missiles in the boost stage of launch. A satellite directly over your nation wouldn't be able to do that; it could only get them in the descent phases.

Official Communqiue

Greetings from the Democratic State of Naasha!

Congratulations are in order for your achievement in joining the ranks of the world's nuclear powers, it is important to remember the responsibility that comes with this prestige however.

We are also pleased to see that Alacea has the interests of its own citizens at heart too, by launching a missile shield system. Although Naasha's own shield uses conventional ground launched counter-missiles like the Patriot system, we are intrigued at the use of a space based interception system and would be interested in acquiring projected interception figures from your government if these are available, in order to assess the potential benefits of upgrading our own ABM systems.

Yours faithfully,
Jonathan Farren,
Minister for Defence
