BRAYTON - The Tolvanic Court today upheld the 55 year old ban on women serving in the Tolvanic Military when all five Justices ruled against a challenge made by former Brayton police officer Nancy Stewart, who was attmpting to enter the Tolvanic Army's Military Police branch. Head Justice T. Scott Bryson, who wrote the Court's Opinion, noted "while the Constitution bars discrimination on the basis of gender, military service is a privilege, not a right, and the Military has every right under the law to set the standards it feels maintain the strength and capability of the force."

The ruling is in line with a recent CP poll, in which 83.5% of those surveyed supported upholding the ban. The poll surveyed 9,736 people and has a margin of error of +/- 3.75%.

The ruling was decried by feminist groups that had sought to overturn the ban. Hillary Jenkins, President of the Tolvanic Women's Council, called is "nothing more than legalized sexism that feeds the stereotype of weak women incapable of doing a man's job."

The ruling is expected to seriously damage the case of Jacob Wilcox, a Tolvanic Navy pilot that was discharged last year for being homosexual and who is currently bringing a case before the 3rd Appellate Court in an attempt to regain his commision and rank.
