Admiral Robert Doyle looked across the sea on the bow of the ship. It was the new Type 45 Destroyer, all sleek and shiny from the production line. About to get dirty.

Their fleet of one Nimitz-class carrier, two Type 23 Frigates, and the Type 45 Destroyer, as well as a few submarines around the area, had set out for the Azores a few days ago. They were a collection of islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, belonging to no one. Well, until now.

The fleet was approaching the island stealthily, trying to make as little radio contact as possible, even going so far as to use a closed Internet channel to communicate between ships. The assault on the Azores was only the beginning. Soon, the full might of the WEF's Navy would be brought to bear.

The 1st Fleet began to approach the first islands of the Azores. The Admiral was in the control room. He turned to one of his advisors.

"What are the military capabilities of the islands?"

"We don't know sir. Should I send a few planes to scout it out?"

"Yes, do that. And why don't we send a few Lightning II's for a nice payload on the military complexes we do know of, eh?"

"What about the provocation techniques?"

"Ahh, yes. Have the Marines on it."

"Yes, sir. Right on it."

***********************

8 Lightning II's raced off of the carrier's runway, the electromagnetic catapault zooming them up so that takeoff was possible. As soon as they were in the air, they circled over the islands, taking about ten minutes to do so, noting down military installations. On their 3rd time around, they fired several AGM 88's at the military installations, as well as releasing several GBU-39 SDB's. They went through the whole island complex, and turned back around and began to return to the carrier.

***********************

Two Futurian Marines were silently paddling in the water towards the carrier. They had been left ashore, and stolen the boat. With them, a few explosives. The plan was to get to the carrier and set off the explosives, claiming the Azorians had done it. A little false justification never hurt anyone. By the time they reached the carrier, the planes were just about to leave. One of the Marines signaled to the men above. A few exchanges, before the explosives were wired, a safe distance from the carrier, and the Marines jumped overboard. The explosion created quite a sight, even if completely harmless to the ships, or Marines.

To the Futuran naval leader

We demand an explanation for this assault on our soveriegn lands. You have no right attacking us without warning, and therefor we demand you leave. Perhaps you are unaware of the Azure's (Azores') motto, sir, which is that it is better to die on our feet in freedom than live on our knees in servitude. And I can assure you, sir, we will do exactly that.

Good day.

Message to the World

The Futuran Navy, with no justification in any shape or form, has attacked us, the soveriegn islands of the Azure. We plea for aid in pushing these unwanted occupyers out of our lands. Please, help us, for you are our only hope.

To the Leader of the Azures

Explanation? Perhaps you want to explain the unwarranted attack you commenced on our ships? This Fleet was on its way to the Pacific, calmly passing by these islands, more of a sightseeing tour to please some of our sailors. And as a welcoming gesture, you send a boat full of explosives at one of our ships. We only responded in nature. If, as you say, you will fight, than you will also lose. Do not make that mistake. The Azures are a beautiful set of islands, and I would hate for them to get dirty with blood.

Official Communique to the Rest of the World

The Azures, at 1601 on June 18th, attacked the 1st Fleet of the WEF Navy. While the 1st Fleet was passing by slowly as to take in the sightseeing tour, one of their boats was quickly and quietly paddled next to our carrier, wired with explosives. The size of the small boat made it hard for us to detect it, and also, our 'alert' level was fairly low - an attack was something we did not expect. An attack, however, was something the Azures got back in return for justification. Our military will secure the islands for the time being to make sure this hostile behaviour does not get out of hand. In the case that it was a singled, terrorist incident, we will still have to secure the island, and inspect the area for terrorist organizations - with the sea to hide things in, that occupation could take time.

If it was indeed a terrorist incident, we will give the Azures a chance to surrender to us, so that they may calmly accept our troops as we attempt to search and destroy such a terrorist organization in the area.

Even if that is the case, the possibility of a terror group that has become so powerful as to threaten, if not even carry out an attack on one of the most powerful navies on Earth, is frightening. As we have spoken to the rest of the World, we are willing to secure the islands and search and destroy said terror group. From you, we will require mostly nothing - you will have control over most of your internal rights and such. A slight tax will be set, and the possibility of a military base is high. Incoming ships will be taxed to our standards if they are to set up at port - a slight one, for the Azures are truly a wonder, in the middle of the Atlantic.

So again, I say to you - let us in, and we will harm you no more. Try to fight, and you will lose everything.

It is not guaranteed that there is a terror group here, though, and therefore we will not be subjugated so quickly. We also could have given you a base for your navy, but in your haste you destroyed them all. We will allow an investigation supervised by Azuran Personell. If a group is found, then we will allow its destruction. We are willing to become a protectorate of Futuris, but we want to stay autonomous. We demand these things if we are to become a protectorate.

1. We are to remain autonomous, but we do wish to have some representation in your legislature.

2. We will not pay for the damages you have caused for a military base you take control of on the Azure Islands. You destroyed them, so you can pay for them.

3. Our military is hereby converted to a special police force of the Azure Islands instead of joining yours.

4. We will pay no tax for damages caused by you to us.

5. We demand fair treatment by your gov't and your people from here on out. We will not join if we are to be treated like scum.

RE: Attack on Azores

Your nation accuses the Commonwealth of imperialism, then proceeds to assault a small and defenseless collection of islands. Such hypocrisy has rarely been seen on the international stage! Please save yourselves the trouble and don't attempt to feed the world a false tale portraying Futuris as the victim of a terrorist attack. From what CWAS intelligence has informed me, the attack did no damage to your vessels, and is hardly considered basis for an attack on the entire military of a sovereign nation. I have yet to see a single shred of evidence that the government of the Azores is personally responsible for said attack. In addition, if the commanding officer of your fleet is so lax in security as to allow a small boat within striking distance of his carrier, it is he who should be deposed and not a legitimate and democratic government backed by the people. Desist from your aggressions at once or face the might of the Commonwealth Navy.

RE: Unlawful Infringement of Your Sovereignty

The Commonwealth stands ready to offer its assistance in your time of need. The nation of Futuris is a threat to world stability, and such a blatant fabrication of lies must be stopped before the imperialist hunger of that nation spreads further. We ask for no benefits in return, only that your government give the Commonwealth Navy permission to defend the sovereign shores of the Azores. It is better to die on your feet in freedom than live on your knees in servitude.

I am sorry for my over-hasty response. I was indeed angry at first, but I should have stayed my hand. I wish to inquire about the political powers of our respective positions (Azures: Futuris), but otherwise, the deal seems fair, and we will pay for the damages. Basically, we will protect you, etc. etc. but the Azures will not charge us further for docking here (besides the actual docking) and thus allowing a free trade zone.

To CWAS,

Your recent talking of the eradication of terrorism in Tunisia as well as this is becoming annoying. Do not think you can simply come here and challenge us because you didn't find any evidence of a terrorist attack that happened several thousand miles away. I urge you to turn back your hostile words. Your imperialism - and yes, I call it imperialism - in Togo has, for now, been looked upon in agreement. Do not think we will be so forgiving next time.

To Futuris

We will not charge you further for port, we wish to only have you pay for the damages to the military facilities that you caused. As for political power, we would like a small representation in the legislature (I don't know how yours works, so consider it like two seats if it was ran like the American Senate.) and the right to govern ourselves when it comes to regional affairs (basically all the stuff they usually did before, but you have power over them in serious nationwide stuff.)

To the Commonwealth

We are sorry to tell you this now, but as of this moment, the Azure Islands are a protectorate of Futuris. We gave them our demands, and they accepted. We see no further need for blood.

RE: Attack on Azores

Perhaps I missed the moment when your nation received authority to invade others with impunity. There is a fundamental difference between the Commonwealth’s intervention in Togo, and the World Empire's aggression against the Azores, a detail which has obviously been 'overlooked' by the Futuris government. When I look over the multitude of conflicts your nation has been involved in, I cannot but conclude that your imperialist ways will not stop with the Azores.

To the CWAS,

Really? I see no difference. You claim that Togo is being oppressed by a dictator - personally, I didn't find any evidence of that, but there you go, securing the capital, invading for what you're worth. I claim that we were provoked first - but you didn't find any evidence. We are several hundred if not thousand miles away, so evidence is hard to come by for such detailed things. Perhaps we should reconsider our harsh words before and settle this like civilized people. The Azures are a protectorate now - they enjoy economic boosts as part of us, protection, even more tourism, and a say in the government. The damages we did to them are being repaired as we speak. There is nothing wrong with it, and I would think that such a deal make them content and happy. But you, obviously, are not. Why? Is it because I took something which you had your eye on as well? First Togo, then the Azures? Was that it? Or something else? Perhaps you think that criticizing my imperialism will make you look like a hypocrite? Whatever the reason, I urge you to think about it again before making any hasty or rash actions and decisions. You have seen the destruction that such actions can make - look at my hastiness in the Azures - I am sorry for that. But rashness on your part will only end in your destruction, so take that in mind next time you threaten anybody.
