Matriel V.

A medium-sized planet on the distant outskirts of the galaxy, a life-bearing world covered with approximately 40% water, inhabited by over ten billion humans. It has a single moon, and the gravity and atmosphere are roughly the same as Earth's. The climate on most of the planet is like that of the Mediterranean region of Earth: ideal for most carbon-based life forms.

This planet is in the late industrial era, equivalent to early 21st century Earth; it has several larger nations, many smaller ones, and a budding space program.

Unfortunately, the radio waves it's emitted into space have drawn some rather unfortunate attention...

----

On the dark side of Matriel V's moon, a brief silvery flash appears in space as a large ship appears. As it begins to move, propelled by unknown means, the light from the sun falls across it as it passes the terminator... revealing an ugly, brown, almost spindle-shaped ship, of impressive size, that appears more like some sort of insect than an actual spaceship. It emits no signals, but continues to move towards the planet, eventually stopping about midways between Matriel V and it's moon.

Naturally, the vessel draws the attention of many; first amateur astronomers, then quickly military installations and governments. Before long, the news richohets around the planet, near and far, high and low, rich and poor: extraterrestials have shown themselves! We should greet them!

The ship, in the meantime, just hovers in place, as though it is waiting for something. Presently, a space shuttle from the planet launches, and approaches the vessel over the next few hours.

As it gets close, something finally happens: 'doors' begin to open all across the hull of the ship. They stretch open, and open, and open: larger than three -story tall apartment buildings, all across the hull.

What comes forth can only be described as nightmare.

One, five, ten, a dozen, a hundred, one thousand, two thousand gigantic insect-like creatures fly forth, resembling a cross between a spider and a crab, with red compound eyes and giant yellowish claws on their limbs fly forth from the vessel, headed towards the planet nearby. Unlike the ship, they do seem to have some obvious method of propulsion, as a faint white exhaust can be seen as they quickly move. The terrified pilots of the shuttle turn their ship around and begin flying back towards Matriel V as the massive swarm of giant insects passes all around them as if they are standing still.

Almost as an afterthought, the front windows of the shuttle are suddenly obscured by one of the giant insects, it's compound eyes glowing. It's mouth-parts separate, and the crew of the shuttle has time to scream before several long tentacles shoot forth, easily penetrating the windscreen and bow of the shuttle, extending throughout the entire interior, then ripping the entire craft apart with one pull. The shuttle explodes as it's fuel tanks cook off, and the insect flies away, joining the others like it as they approach the planet.

Below on the surface, the various governments and militaries are going berserk, which isn't helped as the insect-like creatures begin to re-enter the atmosphere, the heat not seeming to bother them significantly. Aircraft launch and so do missiles, but do scant harm to the creatures.

Nuclear weapons prove more effective at damaging the things, but for ever one destroyed, a hundred more take it's place, and the creatures prove able to keep up with any aircraft sent their way.

As one of the creatures crashes to a landing in a major naval base, many more like it landing in the general area, sirens go off as soldiers fire away with pistols, assault rifles, and man-portable rocket launchers, none which have any effect.

A large battleship docked nearby turns one of it's turrets and fires it into the beast, blowing off some chitin. This provokes a hiss/scream from the creature, which turns, and spits something at the ship, a greenish-yellow mass which lands on the turret and the deck surrounding it... and almost instantly begins to dissolve it. Soon the acidic compound dissolves it's way into the magazines for the turret, and a second later the bow of the ship disintegrates in a massive orange-red flash as the ready ammunition detonates.

In another place on the planet, a flood of the things sweeps across a desert; tanks and artillery fire at them frantically, attempting to prevent them from entering a city nearby. Their efforts only serve to slow the nightmarish creatures down.

On the ship, something new vomits forth... some sort of plant. Like the insectish beings, the plants re-enter the atmosphere. However, instead of randomly targeted like the previous invaders, these land in major population centers, and begin to spread forth a purple mist, causing anyone caught in it to fall unconscious, soon to be collected by tentacles from the plants and placed in translucent green pods.

A radio message blasts out from the planet's largest remaining radio telescope, hastily modified for the purpose...

"Someone, anyone, help us!"

Near Matriel V System
Karazaran Surveillance Station K-6

Fleetcommand hadn't taken long to establish the powerful network of Surveillance Stations such as this one in sector K-6, and it had taken even less time to find those volunteering to staff them, since a Surveillance Station presented far less risk to a Fleetman than a job on a battle cruiser or a destroyer. That lack of risk put many of the Fleet's brightest minds at surveillance stations around the galaxy, and that was how Lieutenant Karva Entaro came to be at KSS K-6 nearly 7 months ago.

He had never regretted the decision before, but today was terribly and horribly different.

The Karazaran had been awake and on shift for barely thirty minutes when the station's radio receiver began notifying it's operators that a message had been received. It was a common occurrence at K-6, several as yet underdeveloped human civilizations inhabited the area, constantly beaming radio transmissions in the most effective form of exploration available to them.

This particular message had not been run of the mill, however. It was a distress signal, rather than exploratory waves. The message ran over and over in Karva's mind, like a broken record.

Someone, anyone, help us!

K-6 Command had ordered the transmission source be located, and video surveillance began. The super powerful telescopic cameras of K-6 acquired the human planet, and the station collectively gasped at the mayhem unfolding before their eyes in real time.

A strange ship, larger than most of Karazaran design, sat in ostensibly peaceful orbit, spindly and dark, looming as the harbinger of doom for the small planet beneath it. Further zoomed, the surface of the planet was visible, and it was truly a vision of carnage and massacre. Nuclear explosions rocked the world, the humans' only defense at all against the disturbing menace that had descended upon them. Vile creatures, black with hate, took one thousand casualties apiece, murdering women, children and the elderly along with the men who did their best to resist them.

The entire station watched the viewscreens with absolute horror, and their feet were bound to the floors as an epic struggle ground out before their eyes. Human resistance was scattered but passionate, doomed but resolute. It was almost beautiful in the heroic way that humans always seemed to capture, and yet is was devastatingly horrifying.

Karva had been the first to come to his senses, and he relayed the distress signal to KF Bastion, a battle cruiser in the area of Matriel V. The ship had confirmed it's immediate response, and Karva had lost contact with the ship as she jumped into the area. He went back to the viewscreen, and watched the ship arrive almost instantly, tearing into space a quarter of the planet's circumference away from the ship responsible for the death of so many Matrians already.

Karva sat back and sighed an exhausted sigh. He had done all he could now, all he could do was watch.

KF Bastion, moving on unidentified ship

As Bastion jumped into the Matriel V System, Fleetcaptain Andara Kals was disturbed by the ship before him. Larger than Bastion, but only slightly, the ship emanated terror and hate, and millions of creatures swarmed about it. The thing was spindly and dark, and almost reeked of evil through the void of space. Kals knew this was a species immune to talk, yet he must try, for the Fleetcommand policy demanded it quite clearly.

Ship. CEASE AND DESIST ALL ACTIONS. Your invasion of this planet violates Dominion Human Protect Act subsection H:37, and you are subject to intervention. You have been warned, stand down! Fleetcaptain Andara Kals of KF Bastion.

No response is apparent from the ship. As a matter of fact, it doesn't show any signs that anyone or anything aboard even recieved the message or is paying any attention. It continues to deploy the house-sized insect-like creatures and strange pod-plants towards the planet surface below, seemingly oblivious.

However, as the Karazaran ship moves closer, this changes rapidly, as another group of about three dozen of the giant beasts erupts forth from it's hull... this time headed in the Karazaran ship's direction at high speed.

Below on the planet, things are beginning to quiet down a bit. While the remnants of the planet's military are still fighting bitterly, it is obvious they are being overwhelmed: their weapons can barely harm the invaders, while any organized resistance is quickly torn apart by claws or tentacles or almost instantly melted by the incredibly strong organic acid.

KF Bastion

Bastion's bridge glowed red as communications hubs rang out the to-battlestations order, and Captain Kals was busily ordering the acquisition of targets.

Following his orders to the letter, each and every creature was given a designated priority, which would be uploaded to the AI of each fighter in Bastion's hull and executed. In the meantime, Bastion's full complement of weaponry opened up, hurling magnetically accelerated rods and globs of plasma at the creatures. The exterior of Bastion hummed as shields fired up, and enveloped the ship in a casing of energy, impervious to almost all weapons, atleast temporarily, that the Dominion had yet encountered.

As the bridge hummed with the rhythmic recoil of the mag cannons located symmetrically on both sides of it, Captain Kals observed patiently, awaiting the devastation of his enemy that he was sure was to follow such a barrage. With a confident smirk as he was informed of the successful launch of the entire fighter compliment, he sat into his command chair and watched.

As the fusillade of plasma bursts through the 'formation'-- really not much more than a rough gathering-- of the insect-like beings, a number of them take direct hits. The plasma proves rather effective, punching into them and cooking them from the inside, and causing them to explode in clouds of purple circulatory fluid. They don't even attempt to evade, just mindlessly charging forth.

From behind the explosions, however, fly more.

And more, and more.

While not in range of their target yet, the rapidly mounting numbers of the things could be a cause for concern... mabye.

Captain Kals' confident grin disappeared swiftly as fewer of the creatures than comfortable were knocked off the priority list, and he was even more dismayed as it appeared that there were now more creatures to deal with.

Thinking quickly of a childhood memory in which Kals and his boyhood friends had spent months on end chasing a string of Karazaran Regen Fish, he skipped to the final climactic battle with the creature, which refused to die without spawning replicas of itself. Kals had been the first to think of the eventual solution, and put it into effect.

He had discovered in class that several elements became extremely potent in their different states, an example of which was liquid nitrogen. The freezing agent had interested him, and in a rare act of defiance he had stolen it from his class' stores. He had encountered the elusive Regen Fish on his way home, and out of pure instinct has immersed the fish in the liquid nitrogen, where it froze and actually died.

Coming back to the present, his mind again worked on instinct. Ordering his entire bridge to pay attention, Kals pointed to the liquid nitrogen storage tanks on a three dimensional schematic of Bastion. The tanks supplied the bio-farms with nitrogen at scheduled intervals, but would now serve as an attacking method. Ordering the fighters to return and be equipped with this munition as soon as possible, Kals chuckled to himself. The bugs wouldn't see it coming.

Sighing as the fighters left the ship once again to fire their new munitions, Kals sat down in his chair once more, this time in eerie silence. He had ordered all guns to hold, as it seemed to multiply the problem. As the fighters began firing their load, he would soon see the result of his memory.

As the clouds from the first explosions disappear, it soon becomes apparent that the cause of even more of the things appearing was not the plasma hitting them-- but instead, the mothership launching more. It seems to have stopped for now, though almost a hundred of the things are still racing towards their target.

The closest ones, percieving the fighters, turn to meet them, the faint whitish exhaust behind them intensifying as they zip singlemindedly towards their targets, reaching out with claws and tentacles as they get closer.

The nitrogen missiles would be a good idea... in an atmosphere. As it is, in a vacuum, most of the liquid nitrogen simply boils off upon 'detonation'. Even so, a few manage to punch directly into their targets and release their payload instead of just impacting the outside of their targets.

The victims of this don't show any real outward signs of damage, other than the holes from the missiles, but they do stop maneuvering and moving, and simply coast on ballistic courses, the red glow behind their eyes gone.

The remainder of the things soar directly into a dogfight with the Bastion's fighter wing, and space is soon speckled with explosions in the immediate area between the Bastion and the strange ship.

As the fight continues, a number of things become immediately apparent: the large insects are not smart in the least. They always try to barrel straight in on their targets and display little to no ability to cooperate with each other. Light weapons prove insufficient to injure them much, but heavy weapons are able to punch through them and hurt and kill them, especially from behind.

The result is that soon enough, the Bastion's fighter wing is racking up quite a killcount... but even so, the beasts persist in their efforts, attempting to claw, grab, tentacle, and spit acid on their targets with single minded fury.

A short distance away, the alien ship finally does something, as it turns and begins to move slowly towards the battle.

If one were to look at the bow of the vessel, one might see a man standing there, a tall, skinny figure with long, pale green hair, hazel eyes, and white skin, wearing a fairly loose outfit consisting of a white t-shirt, a blue jacket with yellow around the bottom, and a pair of blue jeans.

It isn't clear whether a shield on the vessel is holding the air in or whether the man is simply standing in vacuum. However, he's watching the fight on a holographic screen with his arms crossed, zoomed in on the action, and, oddly enough, despite the many losses suffered by his apparent minions, he appears pleased.

"Good, this won't just be another boring pod seeding mission after all. Mabye I can actually have a little fun. Anyone who can chop up these third rate spidercrabs at least will provide a little entertainment, anyways."

Smirking, he continues to watch the fight between the spidercrabs and the Bastion's fighter wing, as he unfolds his arms and pulls a strange red crystal out of his jacket, tossing it up and down with one hand.

It isn't really clear who he's speaking to, though. No one else is apparent, and the ship certainly isn't talking back.

Fighter AI Z0-24

With it's ruthless methodical logic, Fighter AI Z0-24 was an excellent example of Karazaran AI design and construction.

Target Neutralized.
Acquiring Sequence Engaged.
Target Acquired.

With each kill, the Fighter AI drew closer to the enemy mother ship - or perhaps it drew closer to them. Several dozen casualties had been taken, and those AI that remained fighting were those selected by random process to act as rear guard for their poorly armed brethren.

Bastion's guns had recommenced their barrage shortly after the flaws of Captain Kals' plan had become apparent, and the increased friendly fire, although deadly to the creatures, was becoming hard for Z0-24's logic to handle. It was all he could do to keep up with Central's orders.

As Z0-24 neutralized another target, he was overcome by three of the creatures at once, two spitting acid onto his fuselage while the tentacle of another struck his ship far aft, sending him into a wild spin as the acid burned inevitably into his primary systems.

System Failure imminent.
Target Acquisition Program shutting down.
Hibernation Mode begun.
Standby for Shutdown.

KF Bastion

Bastion was alive with activity again as the remnants of her decimated Fighter AI wing returned to hangars for speedy repair and re-launch. Captain Kals' stomach had churned as he realized the flaw of his plan, and ever since the guns of Bastion had recommenced firing with a new fervor.

Plasma was key, Kals knew now. The mag cannons had done barely anything to the creatures, and so had been redirected now at the approaching mother ship, which was just within their range, but outside of that of the plasma cannons. Creatures still swarmed about Bastion, and Kals doubted his shield's efficiency against their unique form of battle. It would have to do, though. The fighters would be able to recommence battle soon, and they would be armed with plasma once more, able to combat this menace effectively.

He would not allow himself to make a mistake again.

As if yanked away by unseen tethers, the spidercrabs attacking the Bastion and it's fighter wing suddenly break away, headed off towards the planet below, leaving the space between the Bastion and the strange ship clear. A rush of projectiles from the mag cannons strikes the hull in several places, tearing some holes in the strange hull... which begin to close almost immediately as the damage begins to regenerate. On the bow of the ship, the man smirks, still tossing the red crystal up and down in his hand.

"Hmpf... they won't be able to hurt this scout ship. Not with weapons like that."

The crystal falls back into his hand again with a smack noise, and he closes his fingers around it, the light from the battle and from the system's sun glinting across it's facets.

"Well, enough wasting spider-crabs. Time to go have some fun!"

With that, he holds the crystal above his head, as the two 'prongs' on either side snap outwards, creating a sort of T-shape, the crystal beginning to glow, and leaps upwards...

"TEK-SETTER!"

A brilliant blaze of red energy, shaped roughly like the crystal itself in it's 'folded' state surrounds the man's body as he leaps off the bow of the ship, and begins flying outwards towards the bastion. Within the aura of energy, glowing lines begin to inscribe themselves down the man's body, roughly following his limbs and circling the joints, radiating outwards from his forehead. From his back, three small green wing-like objects erupt forth from beneath his flesh on each side of his spine.

Then, -armor- of some sort begins to appear, surrounding his torso and back, arms and legs, and finally, a helmet on his head. The legs are long and spindly, with the ends of the 'boots' being pointed, while the arms have smooth flowing lines with small shield-like objects flowing backwards from the wrist, two holes in them. The large shoulders of the suit are especially apparent, and in the center is the 'helmet', an egg-shape with a visor and several 'spikes' sticking off at various angles. On the back, two rounded holes are visible, glowing faintly green.

As the armor finishes appearing on his body and the red aura breaks away from around him in 'shards' of energy, the two holes in the back spit forth a pair of objects, which quickly resolve themselves into objects which look somewhat like long, barbed spears. They fly out into space in front of him, then return to his hands, where he slams them together, forming a single long, lance-like weapon, which he twirls around and around before bringing it to rest in his right hand, held somewhat behind his back, his left hand extended in front and clenched into a fist. Of the crystal, nothing is to be seen.

The sun gleams off of the armor of the mysterious man, who is now completely encased inside... nothing is visible of him any more, and even the visor simply glows faintly, obscuring the interior.

Bridge, KF Bastion

They had thought it was viewscreen malfunction at first - after all, how could what they saw be true? Kals hadn't caught it, himself, but several junior officers on the bridge had claimed that they saw a man actually jump off the enemy ship, as if he could walk the very Void.

The viewscreen hadn't malfunctioned, though. KSS K-6 had made contact with Bastion, thinking what they too had seen an error. As the dual stories commingled, they became one cold, horrible truth.

What they had seen was real. The human that had jumped appeared to undergo some startlingly drastic change, and a red aura engulfed him, then broke, leaving a rippling carapace of menacing design. Immediately terrified, Kals went to work.

"Guns back on line! Plasma and mac cannons, concentrate fire on that man. All remaining fighters are to be re-launched ASAP, heavy-plasma load outs. Shield to full power, do not let that man hit us, gentlemen."

(OOC: Sorry for not posting over the weekend, I was pretty busy :) If you have any questions about Tekkamen or my stuff in general hit me up on MSN or AIM and I'll do my best to answer them. )

The glowing green holes on the back of Claymore's armor glow slightly brighter, and he begins to move, faster, faster, and faster. A faint greenish-white exhaust is visible, just like with the spidercrabs, but just like with them, it isn't really obvious what the exact nature of the propulsion system is.

However, it is obvious that Claymore is a great deal faster than the spidercrabs, and more maneuverable to boot, which is apparent in that he quickly accelerates and begins to maneuver. On top of that, a man-sized target is usually obnoxiously difficult to hit with capital-grade weapons.

Even so, while he is obviously showing off, he's also not trying that hard, and eventually he simply 'stops' in space, twirling his tekk-lance in front of him so fast that it appears a translucent blur as a decent number of MAC gun and plasma shots converge on him. A second later, a gigantic explosion hides him from view...

...only for him to emerge from it about thirty seconds later, seemingly not harmed.

Now Claymore is closing in on the Bastion's fighter wing, and begins overhauling them. As he accelerates towards one, he spins his tekk-lance over his head, and brings it down with amazing strength, in a slashing blow, then continues on his course, spinning the lance over his head and striking at the next fighter along his course, and continuing towards a third.

What will instantly become apparent if and when his blows land is that his strength is, seemingly impossibly for his size, much greater than that of a spider-crab...
