Military Buildup, Empire Returns

Various news organizations, some foreign, most domestic, gathered around in the small, slightly cramped press room. For some reason, the Imperial President had called a press conference, calling it "a matter of grave importance".

Imperial President Jimothy Martini stood behind a curtain, looking at the monstrosities in the room. The things that called themselves human. The press. He swaggered in, stepping to the podium to deliver his speech.

He went over the new constitution, which basically changed the Imperial President into a Monarch. Not a big deal, everything else stayed the same. He also went over the new positions However, that wasn't all he had to say.

"I am increasing taxes, creating an inheritance tax of twenty-five percent, an income tax of ten percent, and lowering the sales tax. What's more, as some people already know, I am recalling all of our troops from the Highway Wars in Route1 to train our army. Lastly, I am increasing our the size of our military and slashing funds from other departments to pay for it. Why? To prepare for the inevitable conflict that looms ahead. Long live the Sovereign League."

"Now, my first act as Emperor is to authorize Project: Pandora's Box (OOC: Soldier augmentation program), and my last act is to resign and join the military. Emperor Hawthorne will be my sucessor." Former Emperor Martini stepped away from the podium.

Hawthorne stepped to the podium, saying that his first act as Emperor was to declare that New Vantania stood with the Sovereign League faithfully. "We are now taking questions."

A short man with dirty blonde hair and a pencil tucked behind his ear stepped forward. "Dirk Benson, Siap Tribune. Can you explain what this inevitable conflict is?"

"Eh, it is possible that it can be defused, but at the moment it seems inevitable that there will be some sort of conflict between the Sovereign League and Ghologth or NATO, after the fall of the GASN after all. We all hope that it doesn't happen, but we're standing ready.

"Thank you." He stepped back, scribbling into his notebook.

As members of both Sovereign League and NATO, we feel such statemetns to be puerile, irresponsible, and downright dangerous.

"It is possible, but then again what we're doing is hardly new. I understand that Questers did the same thing early today. Surely such a small nation as New Vantania wouldn't have near as much influence as Questers?"

"No, unless the Free Empire is attacked, in which case the Free Empire will evacuate all willing embassies."

Benson stepped forward again. "Your nation is described as an empire. Do you have any plans on expansion or colonization?"

"If we got the opportunity, we would colonize something. However, we are not going to wage wars just for land or resources. Especially not with tensions as high as they are. However, before the dissolving of the GASN, New Vantania was in the Highway Wars against the rouge nation of Route1. One of the secondary goals of the war, apart from destroying an unstable, crazy regime, was to annex a small amount of land. I hope this answers your questions."

"If I understand this correctly, your nation will not initiate hostilities for the sole purpose of gaining territory or wealth?"
Vontanas

"Correct. There would have to be a better reason, like attacking our nation or our allies."

"Do you forsee your nation standing down this buildup anytime in the future? What would need to happen for a military reduction to be feasible?"

"Yes, if there were some new alliance similar to the GASN to fill the void, Gholgoth inexplicably dissolved, or New Vantania was destroyed, but the first one seems the most likely. Trust me, I do not want to lead New Vantania into an inter-alliance war. It would likely tear us up."
