Bonniland
13-06-2007, 20:23
We the people of Bonniland are pleased to greet our neighbors and welcome them to exchange spiritual ways and ideas with us in harmony with our belief that knowledge is itself spiritual.

We have been so fortunate as to have been contacted by so many of the lovely peoples around us, especially our very first expected visitor, the Imperium. Planned ceremonies include a parade of Priestessess, feasting, a choral rendition of some of our best music and of course, diplomatic negotiations.

We welcome diplomatic ties with all spiritually minded nations and look forward to further discourse with you!

The Emperor's personal ship, Firebird, landed on the planet, follwed by several transports of diplomats and other dignitaries. The Emperor got out with his personal adviser, a Xiscapian named Jade. Xiscapians look like humans, but have fox ears and tails, yellow eyes, and are much faster and more graceful than any human could ever hope to be. "My Lord?" asked Jade, observing the festivites. "Leave the guards behind." said Foxfire, the Emperor. "Let's just have a little fun before our long, dreary talks."

( On board the High Governance - Leadership platform of the Hobbeebian Explorationary Forces within the Milky way galaxy)

" General we have received a message from a young planet nation called Bonniland. It appears as if they are trying to establish ties within the galaxy. They are calling for diplomats and the like..... shall I ready your ship sir?" called one of the thousands Transmission operators within the Platform

" Yes. I will be ready soon. I will leave in about 10 minutes have my guard contingent ready and waiting before I gt on board." replied the general as he willed his desk and chair away and rematerialized his living quarters. where he placed on his ceremonial robes in preparation to meeting this new nations leadership.

----( on board the HCS Hellgade- personal craft of the general of the Hobbeebian Explorationary forces)

The guard contingent was ready and waiting as the general had ordered. The ship was simply awaiting his arrival so they may begin the Dime jump process. the General saluted the guards and left to his place in the command chair of the ship, where he gave to order to Dime jump. The ships sleek exterior already reflecting the light from the stars, giving it a fluid like look began to glow with a orb of bright white and gold light and soon disappeared into the other Dimension..

( 5 seconds later- Bonniland)

The ship that the general was on soon exited the Extra Dime space and reemerged within sensor range for the new nation. the ship entered as it left a large white and gold glow erupted from out of nowhere then disappeared leaving the Hobbeebian ship in the black void.

A message was sent:

" This is Supreme General Markum Artilies, of the Superior majestic Imperium of Hobbeebia, Leader of the Hobbeebian Explorationary Forces within the Milkyway Galaxy. I am here to meet with your Leadership in terms of peace and prosperity."

A single Frigate happened to be in the area when the invitation to visit went out. The captain of The Frigid relayed the message back home as per Fleet Protocols. Shortly the message was being delivered to the Department of Foreign Affairs. The head of the department took an interest and dispatched a diplomat to attend the affair.

Soon afterwards, space was torn asunder as a wormhole formed a safe distance away from the planet. A single Stiletto shuttle left the aperture as it closed. The shuttle turned toward the planet and began to speed up. As it approached, a message was sent.

Greetings, I am Lar’Sohn. The Balrogga Empire has received your message and decided to send me to attend your celebration.

Can you please give me the appropriate approach vectors? I would like to meet you as soon as possible.

The Stiletto shuttle held position waiting for the reply.

Foxfire and Jade went around to a small room where they changed out of their robes and into normal clothing. They told the women they required no special treatment and wandered the grounds, looking around at the hurried fesivities.

The Grand Master of the holy Order of Saint Longinus sat upon his throne, surveying the world his people had reclaimed. As he did so, Lucien Galtier, the Seneschal of the Order, came up and knelt before him.

"Master de Guadalupe, a message has been received. It comes from a people seeking alliances. Perhaps they could be allies in our war on the binary empire."

Juan Diego de Guadalupe considered it for a moment, and then ordered his honor guard to join him.

The Retribution Class Battleship, Altare De activated it's Tesseract Drive, and jumped to the home world of Bonniland. It's Chromium Plating gleamed with the light of the sun, it's gun ports sealed.

The Grand Master nodded to the Communication Officer, who opened a channel to the people of Bonniland.

"This is Grand Master Juan Diego de Guadalupe, we are requesting permission to land one LAAT/i Gunship with our delegation. It shall consist of myself, my Seneschal, Lucien Galtier, and eleven of my best Knights."

As the message was sent, the Sensors Station called out, "Sir, Sephrioth Ships have been sited in system."

"Great, just great," the Seneschal muttered.

"Raise our Deflector Fields, and order our Starboard Gun Ports un-sealed, but left closed. Commander, if they try anything, get as close as you can."

The Grand Master then sat back and sighed, hoping nothing would come of their presence.

As soon as clearence came, the Grand Master led 11 men with gleaming Chromium Armor and lightsabers to a waiting LAAT/i. The ships descended to the planet's surface, and disgorged it' cargo of personnel.

Lar’Sohn programmed the vectors and the shuttle was soon approaching the landing pad. The small ship slowly settled down until it hovered a few centimeters above the pad. The side of the ship melted and the material formed three individually hovering steps. The newly revealed door opened and a young appearing woman stepped out. She was dressed in simple traveling clothes designed for comfort instead of strict cultural interactions. She would change later but now it was important to meet these new people.

She approached one of the natives (Bonnilandians?) and spoke to them.

“Excuse me, I am here for the celebration. Can you please point me to the appropriate persons? I am also supposed to speak with the Protocol Advisor.”

When the Imperium deployed its ten Thunderhawks, another ship joined them. A Pelican accelerated throughout the atmosphere, fire streaming across its hull. Inside, was a squad of ten elite ODST Helljumpers with a Chaplain, and a diplomat. The Chaplain, who was also the Sergeant leading the platoon, spoke up. "Alright men, this is a cakewalk mission. We are to assist the Terminators with their quest to seek this Template-do-hickey of theirs. And, as HIGHCOM has told you, keep them in line. We don't need a war here. Councilor Harakan here will be talking to the Bonnielandians while we do so. Any questions?" They shook their heads. "Good."

The Pelican landed in short order and disgorged the soldiers. "I will remain here< Sergeant, until we need to leave."

"Roger, Lieutenant. Let's move, Helljumpers." Moving up to the Terminators, they stood, letting the Imperium take care of things. Harakan hovered, waiting to begin the talks.

Another AirHippo class battlecruiser traveling the vast void that is space, another Admiral on the edge of space dementia, another crew longing to go home, another random introduction RP thread. This is NationStates, and this is today's story.

Admiral Duke Leopold, 45 years old, used to command the 27th BattleFleet, but got bored and needed a little adventure. Exploring the vast universe was very adventerous so, why not. He looked like the aristocrats of ancient times, with monocle(sp?) and nicely primmed mustache in hand. He was a proper gentleman, and his humour could be construed as dry as a desert (I r so clevar). He proudly served the Commonwealth, and wouldn't rush into battle unless he decided the enemy was a threat. Diplomacy first.

Granted he didn't mind a few explosions.

So there he was, dressed in his white Admiral's uniform, shimmering (because everything shimmers in space! Or at least that's what TFU believes) and smoking his pipe. "Well then officer." He stated. "Who do you think will win the football match back in Rosanica?"

Now since I don't know anything about football (soccer) at all, we must move on.

"Well." BEEP. Oh what a convinient plot device! "Sir, we seem to be getting a message from an alien civilization. They're... not some sort of warmongering civilization either. A nation of priests."

Duke raised his brow. "A global temple? Interesting, I for one will be happy to greet a civilization not intent on destroying us. Warp ahead."

And so the ship did indeed warp ahead, and since I won't describe how the stars looked like dots going by really fast, and the tunnel was like some cheap tunnel of love thing at your county fair but you still take your girlfriend there anyway because you wanna get to second base at least but it doesn't really matter because she dumped you because she caught you with another man.

Wait what?

"Sir, we're here." Chimed a random Ensign.

Duke nodded. "Very well then, Officer Shuartz, do you see any other ships in the area?"

Shuartz, being the electronics officer in the hizzouse, did an oy vey. "Oy vey." See? "One Sephrion capital ship, but they're not hostile. But there are some forces that could be considered friendly. The Balroggans, Terrans. Some unknowns too."

Duke raised his brow. "Interesting. Let's hope the Sephrions use their head and don't fire on us."

The ships appeared on the bridge's plasma screen television (high resolution) looking all shippy. The bridge was not too worried, and it looked like it would be a peaceful hello hello encounter, not like Aios. But at least the Star Navy was tested in Aios.

To: Any Available Bonnite Government
From: CNS Hamptonshire

Hello, I am Admiral Duke Leopold of the CNS Hamptonshire. I come in peace in
the name of the Cassiopeian Commonwealth. We are seven planets, and we
are always looking for new contacts to trade with. I am hoping to meet with
a government official or preferably your leader. If I have to fly down to
the surface, I will do as requested, but if you want to send a diplomat
towards my ship you do not have opposition.

I am excitedly waiting for your response, and I hope a new era of trade and
prosperity occurs out of this.

Duke Leopold
Admiral, CNS Hamptonshire

Leopold watched the plasma screen as the message went forth, looking at the various ships and their makes and models. "At least there's a profound lacking of idiots... so far."

The General was grateful for the kind welcome. But the Imperial Isa fleet being here was an unsettling concept considering they had not had to much contact with them. But this was a peaceful setting and he was not about to create hostilities.

" Keep a watchful eye on that Imperial Isa fleet... I don't like them being here and something just doesn't feel right. " Ordered the General as he stepped into the Dime-rift generator. As the General looked over his suit and gave it a good tug, the generator activated and created a small window in which the General walked through... Emerging at a government looking building where a lot of officials seemed to be congregating.

As the General Walked through it was if the walked in from the air. The slight air disturbance could have been easily been overlooked.

St. David hurridly sent his twenty highest priests and priestess to escort Leaman Russ and his retinue, while he and St. Bonni waited in the reception area for the next to arrive. Sunya
15-06-2007, 02:40
A small pack of four or five Sunyan General Contact Units fell out of warp into the Bonnilandian system. The stars around them shifted colors as the Alcubierreian warp curvature dissipated, altering the flow of light around the bubble of nonwarp space the ships travelled in. GCUs followed classical Sunyan design philosophy. Starships were works of art, emissaries of a people's ability and forthought, but not every ship was a work of art. Though sleek, stealthy, quick, durable, and deadly when necessary, they were for the most part identical. And smallish. Each GCU (comfortably) carried a crew of maybe a dozen, including one AI and a few other free-willed, but embodied, machines. GCUs were armed, but their armaments have never been used in anger, as Sunya was just exiting a long period of self-enforced isolation.

On board the GCU Solstice, the bridge was its usual center of activity.
The voice of the AI aboard the Solstice spoke to the crew "We have just exited hyperluminosity and are making our way into the system at a rate of 45 light minutes per hour. I have already dispatched a message to the Bonnilandians stating our intentions to meet with them, Emmissary Alo."

"Thank you, Solstice," spoke a human male, named Alo. He addressed a roughly seven foot tall bipedal machine, with a head like a great glowing lens of a face on an articulated chassis. "Jase, will you accompany me to the planets' surface?"

The machine, settling its gleaming mass and responded in a baritone "Of course, Emmissary. I would be delighted. I also recommend we utilize the abilities of young Headitha. She would be quick useful for this function, Alo."

"Indeed? Do you object Headitha? I could certainly use the aid of an empath."

"Not at all, emissary." Replied Headitha cooly. For all their emotional sensitivity, empaths were often emotionally distant themselves. But she could sense Alo's justifiable excitement. It was a big day for all of Sunya...

MESSAGE FROM GCU SOLSTICE,
RE: BONNILANDIAN DIPLOMATIC GALA

On behalf of the peoples of Sunya, I respectfully request that our Emmissary be allowed to attend as the delegated representative of the Free Worlds of Sunya. We wish to exchange cultures, initiate diplomatic ties, and generally make contact with others. Given your permission, our Emmissary will be accompanied by two others.

We eagerly await your reply.

With warmest salutations,

The Knights snapped to attention, a remarkable sight as they where already standing tall.

Juan Diego de Gudalupe stepped forth and smiled his most welcoming smile. "Thank you kindly, I am the Grand Master of the Holy Order of St. Longinus, the man who pierced our Lord and God as he hung upon the cross. Please excuse my bodyguard, we have had unfriendly relations with some of Sephrioth's allies, and I do not wish to be caught unprepared. As for the protocol officer, we would be glad to meet him at the earliest convenience possible."

When he heard about the Priestesses, images from the History Holograms of the Priestesses of Ishtar, Aphrodite, Demeter, Isis, Hathor, etc. ran through his mind, and he struggled to keep his distaste from his face.

"We live a rather spartan existence, that will not be necessary. So long as we have a sparing ring and enough cots for all, we shall be fine."

The Grand Master snapped his fingers, and several of the knights rushed back to the Cargo Ship to pick up a small container, containing the necessary Sacramentals, and carry it to the rooms designated to them.

Duke blinked as he heard the message that there was to be a meeting at the planet. He sighed, he really did not like leaving leaving his comfortable captain's chair. I mean, it was a lazy boy. Those are comfy man. But it was time for him to represent the Commonwealth at its best, a bastion of freedom and common sense in a sea of empires and ignorance. And Death Stars, but that's another story.

"Officer Brooks." Duke said to his military officer. "You're in charge of the bridge while I'm away, take care."

Brooks saluted. "Yes Admiral." He stated. "This ship will not blow up on my watch."

Leopold chuckled as he left the bridge. "I prefer that it doesn't blow up on anyody's watch..."

The rest of the ship, like the bridge, was a sight to behold. Crewmen and Marines walking up and down taking care of business, flashy icon things that really make not that much sense (but look pretty) and are flashy, cameras monitering things at all times, the doors to rooms. Why it couldn't been a Star Trek episode... in fact, I'm stealing all of this from Star Trek right this moment. I mean really folks I doubt I can describe the hall as shimmering... though it was.

Leopold, after being saluted and greeted left and right (which he found amusing, he was a tad informal when it came to the crew) entered one of the pod hangers. There were fighters upon fighters parked, and three large shuttles folded up waiting for launched.

He approached one of them, a Marine dressed up like a soldier from Battlefield 2142 holding an E-11 blaster and having all sorts of sexy equipment, saluted him. "Hello Admiral, I'll be your bodyguard and pilot for this endeavor."

Leopold smiled warmly. "Thank you soldier, very well then. Let us make a few new friends today."

The shuttle (painted in green like every Cassiopeian shuttle) slowly hovered off the ground, the crewmen clearing the way for the ship. It flew slowly out of the ship, finally extending its wings after having enough space and now flying gracefully towards the planet, as if nothing in the Universe is happening, just a shuttle flying all pretty like. A short but concise message was sent.

"Everyone will be called here shortly, and St. David will be right here, and I'm sure the Protocol Advisor will be along shortly also. That said, she waved at two priests "guarding" the open entrance, and stopped in front of the tall, greying, St. David. "Confirmation received from Bonniland, Emmissary. Shall I land?" the calm, amiable voice of the AI filled the bridge.

"Yes, Solstice, that would be just fine. Inform the other GCU's that their services will not be necessary." replied Alo. With that, the four other GCUs in the pack broke formation and dissappeared into warp, leaving the Solstice streaking towards its destination.

Landing in Joy Park, the Emmissary Alo, Jase, and Headitha exited the Solstice leaving the rest of the crew aboard. Greeted by the Priestess, they followed her to the General Compound and awaited the introductory speech.

"Open a channel, I wish to speak with them." The Seneschal stated, striding onto the bridge.

"Of course, your eminence," the captain said, motioning to a command chair.

"Channel open, Translation Algorithm is active."

"Bernard, this is Seneschal Lucien Galtier of the Longinean Star Ship, Altare De, We apologize for the delay in responding, but our Translation technology was on the fritz. It is a pleasure to hear from you. We, like the rest of those here, are opening diplomatic channels with the people of Bonniland."

As the ship began to move, the command deck of the Altare De was consumed in activity.

"Sir, the Sephrioth ship is moving," the sensor officer called out.

"Activate all shields, warm-up the engines, prepare to comeabout for broadsides. Charge up our MAC Capacitors and arm the Magnetic Field Recyclers. Load our Shredder Rounds."

Outside the ship, the shields were raised, and several drones, each needle thin, were deployed, and powered up their shield generators, bolstering the ship's own generators.

"Bernard, be prepared, Sephrioth has been known to act rashly."

That said, I must bluntly ask if you are aware of the large variety of peoples congregating here and if there are any you would not wish to sit next to at table?"

Lar’Sohn let the “sir” pass by her without thinking twice. They probably use the generic term as a polite reference or honorific title. There was no reason to be upset by the improper application of a gender specific term, especially since Ta’Nar really do not have their own gender, only that of the particular persona they are emulating at the moment. They only try to get the terminology correct to allow them to fit into other cultures easier.

She walked with the Priestess to the Hall of Discourse and met with the High Priest and Priestess.

“I understand. This is a very important event for your people. I wish you good luck in your speech and I am sure it will be wonderful.” She returned the courtesy the High Priest afforded her as he left and turned to greet Bro. Ronald.

“Well, if the table is round, there is no place that is ‘higher’ than any other. At a round table all are of equal status since there is no Head of the table. You may place me anywhere that is convenient. As far as who not to sit next to, even if I was placed next to a complete clod, it would be disrespectful to act inappropriately. We are here for you, not our own egos. This is your time to shine in the limelight. I will be satisfied with any arrangements you devise. As far as taboo’s, I am sure you will not affront me in any way. The only thing that comes to mind is my demise and I am sure that will not happen. As a matter of fact, I trust you that I am absolutely certain I am safe here. You can rest assured that I will be satisfied with whatever you come up with.”

Sergeant Bailey watched the Sephirothians, the Xiscapians...well, pretty much everyone but the Balroggan with a careful eye. He still had a slight case of xenophobia, but most Imperial's did after reading the records of the war in school and in the military. The Balroggan wa excluded, since after the Second Battle of Harvest, they had been recognized as allies of the Imperium and a nation worthy of respect. His gaze was disrupted by a Sephirothian Chaplain.

OOC: Quick point, we have no missiles. We do not lock onto enemy ships. We haven't even calculated a firing solution.

Also, we did not charge the actual weapons, just the support systems. By charging the capacitors, the weapons can be readied to fire within seconds, but not until the capacitors have been dumped into the actual MAC Guns. We use Chromium-Mirror plating so that enemy Electro-Magnetic Weapons (Lasers, Microwaves, Gamma Ray, X-Rays, Radio Waves) will be re-directed at them, allowing us to get within a few dozen meters of enemy ships.

The only thing you could have noticed would be that we would have maneuvered to present our Starboard Hull to you, and our shields have been raised. Please edit your post accordingly.

Once here, however, have them run scans on all ships in-system, including this new fleet. In the meantime, send a message to all ships concerning our fleet." The Surface of Bonniland:
The Grand Master turned to the representatives from Bonniland, and sighed. "I apologize for this. My people are a little jumpy after the wars with 1010102 and our long exile in yet another foreign universe."

Activating a comm system built into his outfit, he broadcast on an open channel to his own ship, "Lucien, do not, I repeat, do not escalate, maintain defensive postures only. You know our laws. We do not fire the first shot."

Command Deck of the Altare De:
"I copy Your Eminence, we had no intentions of escalating."

Turning to the comm officer, he asked for an open channel to be connected with the flagship of the newly arrived fleet.

"This is Seneschal Lucien Galtier, Second in Command of the Holy Order of Saint Longinus, and acting-commander of the Altare De in his Eminence the Grand Master Juan Diego de Guadeloupe's absence on the surface of the world. Please understand we are not trying to escalate tensions. Our actions were purely defensive in nature. If conflict breaks out, it will be Sephrioth who starts it, not us."

On the Surface:
On the surface, the Grand Master snapped some orders in Latin, and Nine of the knights began arranging the room as they found necessary. Two other Knights took up flanking position behind the Grand Master.

"We are ready to meet with your Protocol Officer now, and again, apologies for the current situation in orbit."

Speakers concealed behind shrubs and in trees blared a fanfare. Everyone near the central compound looked up to the tall outdoor podium in front. St. David waved at the multitude and spoke into the microphone. "Welcome all to our Joy City, and I want to personally thank the representatives from afar that have delightfully opted to be here today. In one hour we shall have ready our negotiation hall, please forgive us as we had no idea the shear numbers of nations that responded to our invitation. That said, I don't believe in Long Boring Speeches, ah none of us do I think, so Enjoy the festival!"

St. David walked down the stairs to the waiting aides. He asked them, " How far has Bro Ronald gotten in his survey of the attending nations, do you know?" Said one aide, "He was last seen greeting the delegation from Balrogga, and is hopefully gaining insight." St. David said with a worried frown, I hope none of these delegates offend socially, easily. I have heard that not everyone in the galaxy favors our happy and enlightened ways. Try to keep the priestesses from any who seem too aggressive or at least have them observed unobtrusively, I wouldn't want them hurt in any way. "They need a sixty two ship fleet to protect one man? Are they mad? That's not a fleet, thats a f**king invasion force! Do they want to start a war?" Bailey swore to himself, muttering dark oaths. A soldier spoke.

"Sir, shouldn't we bring in our own ships? To counter their own?"

"Normally, yes, but if they want to start a war, they can. I am not stooping to their level." The Sergeant heard Leaman's question replied.

Jase paused for a moment, then spoke in his gentle baritone to Alo,

"Emmissary, data from the Solstice suggests a powerful fleet of war has entered the star system. They identify themselves as protectors of the Xiscapian Emperor. It has caused quite a bit of confusion and chatter among the other delegates."

Alo looked around the Festival, then at Headitha, whose worried look implied she sensed the general tension. Alo smiled serenly "Well, I feel we have perhaps walked into a great deal of danger. Fascinating how these Bonnilandians seem to be a cheerful eye of Imperial storm. Jase, keep me informed if anything serious starts happening, and inform the Solstice to keep her engines hot in case we need her to swoop in and get us out of here."

Headitha spoke distantly "There is a great deal of tension. Memories of terrible war haunt these peoples, yet they are so quick to fight."

"That's how empires are," Alo spoke softly, "everything for their own glory. They make war and build monuments to death untill they lord over ashes and hold the allegiances of none but ghosts and their impoverished descendents raid the statues of past grandeur for bricks and scrap of which they build their hovels. Human history is full of the same story, told again and again." He sighed. "But we must attempt to make friends, for there is redemption in the humanity of even the most callous of tyrants."

Headitha snorted with the emotionally detached disdain only empaths can muster, "Would you redeem Niro or Hitler? I know my history from Sol. Would you call the Oligarchs of the American Covenant 'redeemable'?"

Alo chuckled genetly at Headithat's youthful pessimism. With age and wisdom you learn only equanimity. The world is neither good nor bad. It just is.
"You speak with conviction, young Headitha. I speak only with experience. And in my experience, there is on occasion nobleness in nobility. That's why we came here. We share our universe with these very powerful people and so we must learn to coexist, if only so [B]we[/B can continue to exist."

With that, the trio continued their wanderings around the festival, hoping to speak with a representative of their gentle hosts.

The priestess bowed to his Eminence the Grand Master Juan Diego de Guadeloupe, touched her nearly invisible ear piece and said, "Sir, Bro. Ronald will be here shortly to ask and hopefully to answer any immediate questions of protocol."

In the hall of negotiations: Br. Ronald surveys the growing number of place placards. Turning to an aide he said, "Place the Imperium on our right, with Telros next. I believe this would work out the best." That said he rushed out of the room, heading for his next interview.

The Grand Master sat waiting for Brother Roland, as a transmission from the Altare De came through. Looking down, he noted that it was heavily encrypted, so much so that he had to provide four forms of Bio-Metric ID to access.

"Your Eminence," the Seneschal said in greeting, "We have received a message from President Rico, he has requested that the College of Bishops and either you or myself arrive for a critical vote. It would seem, that the Galactic Empire is turning on one of their own."

"Then go Lucien, I shall remain here. If this is a way to strike at the enemies of our order, then you have my blessing to vote in support of war."

"Of course, Your Eminence, I shall leave the Altare De here, and take an LAAT/i to the Meeting. The College is already underway."

The Grand Master closed the link, and resumed waiting for the protocol officer.

In orbit, an LAAT/i left the Altare De, and took up a position facing out from the system.

"This is the Altare De-2 to the Bonniland Space Control, requesting permission to leave the system."

Lar'Sohn looked around at who was talking to her and spied a military rep from Hobbeebia and she nodded back to him as he approached.

"Well, their message was detected by one of our ships and forwarded to the Imperial Palace. The Diplomacy Corp sent me to check out these new people.”

She looked around at the natives and at the foreigners and shook her head.

“In my opinion, as much as I have seen since I landed; the visitors are more hazardous than the Hosts, especially since it seems people tend to forget their manners in these engagements. I hope this isn’t the case here; they seem like such a charming civilization so far. I’ve heard rumors of hot tempers flaring up there but so far it is only rumor. I hope it stays up there and doesn’t plague these people.”

the inqistor siped a balrrogian and calmy walked up to him hail how fairs you

“Hail, how fairs you?”

Lar’Sohn turned her head towards the voice and she saw another military officer wearing the colors of Sephiroth stepping up to her sipping a drink. She was glad she chose a civilian appearance for the meeting, there was too much military in today’s diplomatic business. The trend has been growing the past few centuries and it didn’t seem like it was going to change back to more sane times. The nations were sending the Brass in to do a Diplomat’s job and wondered why their “shoot first, ask questions later” mentality caused wars. She could see other Officers walking around the Meet and Greet floor and sighed mentally. She made sure her neutral face was still on and turned to face both the General and the Inquisitor at the same time. In an obviously joking voice so it was clear she was making a joke she addressed both.

“Oh my, a General and an Inquisitor. Have I done something wrong? Am I under arrest? What’s a girl to do?”

She made a motion with her hand as if she were holding an old fashioned fan. The line and the action reminded both of an old movie they had both seen at one point and both got the reference. Dropping the act, Lar’Sohn used her normal tone of voice to address her two guests again.

“Sorry, if you don’t do something like that to cut the ice, the drama of the situation builds up and affects your mission. The Meet and Greet is the most tedious for me, personally.”

She paused a moment before continuing, her long dark hair blowing in the gentle breeze.

“What part of this do you hate the most?”

Alo wandered around the gathering, beginning to doubt the wisdom of his attendance. There was very little structure to the whole affair and he wasn’t sure if much could be done at this stage. Nonetheless, it would be inconsiderate to leave without at least attempting an introduction to some of the other ambassadors.

He also felt somewhat outclassed. The decidedly martial nature of the uniforms of many of the delegates contrasted sharply against the plain, loose fitting tunic, trousers, and light cloak he and Headitha wore. The crispness, careful tailoring, and decoration of the clothing of the others was quite different from the home spun earth-tones he and his colleague wore. Even the mechanoid Jase wore a plain robe of deep purple, which bore symbols, the language of his kind, over his smooth, gleaming ceramic-polymer composite exoskeleton, otherwise concealing his rather intimidating form.

But attempts must be made, in the name of diplomacy. Noticing the gathering of the delegates of Sephrioth, Hobeebia, and Balrogga. Hoping to salvage an otherwise short, tense, and ultimately failed diplomatic effort, he approached the Balroggan woman and, smiling, with hands clasped together as if in prayer, he bowed low to her and the other delegates. The others of his group mimicked the motion while he spoke:

“Salutations and long life, ammaritii; my sister.” He arose with the others and looked her square in the eye, said, “Pardon me for the interruption, but I saw fit to introduce myself. My name is Alo, and these are my companions, Headitha and Jase. We are from the Culture of Sunya.” Addressing all the delegates, he said, “I was hoping that we could all utilize this opportunity, however brief, to advance mutual understanding among all our nations, if only for the purpose of preventing the sort of thing that nearly happened here.”

He spoke earnestly and serenely, more like a monk than a political player. He sighed gently, said “My apologies to those among us in the military profession, but we would never send warriors to do the work of a diplomat, any more than you would ask the smith to tend your garden. To use a relatively crude Sunyan expression, there sure is a lot of brass and balls around here!” He smiled impishly and spoke boisterously “So, what say you all to a bit of diplomatic exchange at this diplomatic exchange?”

IC: The one who identified himself as Inquisitor Tidus approached Alo following his initial conversation with the Balroggan woman. IT angered Alo somewhat to be referred to as "xeno" and he couldn't help but detect a bit of condescension. He nonetheless, in the interest of diplomatic interaction, overlooked the issue and addressed the Inquisitor:

With that, he awaited the Inquisitor's response.

Lar’Sohn sighed and shook her head.

“Talking to people like that will not make you any friends. Think of it this way, to them you are the Xeno. If they spoke like that to you, how would you react? The foremost rule in diplomacy is not to insult any others. Also, using your voice in that tone shows impatience, a further insult. Snapping your words at others is not very polite in most circles. Your greeting started your conversation by insulting them twice in a single breath.

Alo appreciated Lar'Sohn's poignant lecture on basic diplomatic protocol to the servant of the Imperium, but he was chosen for this assignment because he possessed three qualities that defined the spirit of the Culture: efficiency, adaptability, and patience. He eyed the Inquisitor thoughtfully and wondered if everyone in this Imperium of Man were so high and mighty. But the Culture of Sunya's interactions with various empires taught it well. Alo understood that ceremony often reinforced defined social roles of individuals, even whole classes, in such societies. It was a tool used by the powerful to maintain the status quo and it was to be respected. Though such systems are an alien concept to the Culture, they are not uncomprehended.

He spoke, calmly, softly, but much more guardedly now: this Inquisitor may lack a few manners, but he represented a power that could afford to be somewhat callous; "Inquisitor Tidus, I have the utmost respect for the power and reach of your Emperor, as I do your service to Him, but I hope you will find it in all our interests, ours as well as the Imperium's, that we engage in diplomatic interaction to further our mutual goals. We wish only diplomacy and commerce, that both our people's may prosper peacefully." His words spoke peace, but there was palpable tension in the air, a situation Alo didn't like. He wasn't here to insult or cause problems.

He then turned to the Balroggan woman, Lar'Sohn, "I owe you thanks, Lar'Sohn," he smiled and bowed slightly, hand over his heart. A sincere gesture in Sunyan custom to show acknowledgment of a debt of honor, "It isn't often one would defend a stranger, but I am not quick to insult." He spoke up, still addressing Lar'Sohn, but including the rest of the group, "Perhaps we all have begun on bad footing. I, personally, prefer much more informal settings. It would be my pleasure to buy refreshments for all of us. Do you drink alcohol? It's a bit of an art in the Culture, and something we enjoy doing with those we hope to befriend." Truly, he could've used a drink about then. He instructed the others to return to the ship before resuming his invitation to Lar'Sohn and Tidus; "Tidus, perhaps you would like to expound on your Emperor and the Three Holy Orders. And Lar'Sohn, I know nothing of your people." His eyes implored hers. He detected she would be much more conducive to a genuine conversation that others; "I would very much like to hear about your nation."

OOC: I think the biggest heresy is not having a drink after a long day's work massacreing psionic demon heretics from outer space. It's just such a pain in the ass...

IC: Tidus explained his love for his god-emperor and the system of Holy Orders set in place to enforce his will. He understood the words, but some of the content made no sense. Tidus spoke of deamonic beings and the like and Alo wondered if they were related to a few of the skirmishes Culture ships have had with unidentified, but highly aggressive, vessels on the Frontier. Most were small and quickly contained, but they were always perplexing. Alo thought it best not to expound on the Culture's attitude towards psionics, as it would almost certainly arouse the ire of Tidus and the Imperium.

And, of course, he doesn't drink. Alo thought back to his granddad laboring in the communal metalworks with his father in the small, seaside community he grew up in. He remembered him beating, stretching, riveting, and soldering copper sheeting into shape to construct the brewing vessels for the new communal brewhouse. He used to pick him up with sweaty, dirty iron arms and have him climb atop the vessels, to solder some unreachable joint that the machina were too heavy to get to, and would say: 'You'll understand this when yer older, lad, never trust a man who don't sit and have a drink with ya, especially when it matters.'

Alo met the Inquisitors eyes, finding it ever more difficult to relate to this individual on any human scale, and said, "Well, perhaps our good hosts will serve something that better suits your palate. Regardless, I insist upon it being my treat, and I would like to hear more of your people." He then spoke to Lar'Sohn, "And what of your home, Lar'Sohn, do you also serve an Emperor?"

She did not seem the least afraid the Inquisitor was brandishing his weapon in plain sight of everyone. She whispered to the large Inquisitor loud enough for him to hear her.

“Now put that thing away before you make a spectacle of yourself. You are going to attract everyone’s attention waving that thing around. When people see you with that thing in a diplomatic meeting, they will think unpleasant thoughts about you, ones much worse than ‘I bet he is a fake’. They will not want to deal with you at all because they will think you are too hair triggered and short tempered.”

Lar’Sohn waited a moment to see if he heeded her advice.

As Tidus expounded on this Empire he served, the clearer Alo's picture of it became, and he would certainly include his personal impression in his report to the Central Council. Alo watched the psionic interaction between Lar'Sohn and Tidus with interest. Both seemed to be Attuned; Tidus enough to read surface thoughts. Alo wondered if their Attenuation was the product of training, modification, or genofixing, but he would have to be careful of what he thought: he didn't want to expose more of himself and the Culture than was necessary.

Lar'Sohn's thoughts seemed to irritate Tidus' pride, and when Tidus began brandishing his weapon, Alo quietly, instinctively, prepared himself for combat. He immediately regretted sending the mechanoid Jase back to the Solstice, but Alo was not entirely defenseless. His cloak hid more than his frame and his deft movements beneath it were scarcely noticeable. As the situation before him escalated, he took a single step back, but maintained his normal demeanor as he interjected:

Alo spoke icily; "Perhaps it would be wiser, Inquisitor, to defend your pride elsewhere. None of us came here to make war, but I do believe we are all of us capable of defending ourselves: as individuals or allies against common threats. My advice to you; heed her suggestion lest you find yourself in isolation, at best."

He awaited the Inquisitor's response, every muscle tensed, every synapse focused, his training conquering his fear as he patiently waited the Inquisitor's reaction.
