Enemies Become Friends as the Bitterness Ends (Atten: Kanami)
It had been a less torrid week in and around Stevid’s sleepless government and while the Golden War of Succession had fortunately died down slightly once again, the government could turn to less important matters that were addressing them in a fast changing world- namely the reputation of the Empire, its esteemed allies and, of course, Kanami. Stevid had become too involved with international conflict and it now showed in the statistics of the nation’s economy; a huge on going war with a massive military superpower in the Golden War of Succession had drained Stevid of many military resources but still she had fought two wars with Kanami over a chain of relatively worthless islands- all in the name of principle and sovereignty, it had been a rare case where logic had given way to pathetic human principles and it hadn’t done Stevid any good. More recently however the Empire managed to avoid war once again with other allies as Kurona almost got deeper than they could handle in an international affair that would have brought former friends on to hostile terms. Quick intervention from the foreign office managed to persuade Kurona to forget conflict and even Kanami decided that cooperation with the Stevidian Government and the Royal Navy task force in the area would be a sound idea to both end possible conflict and improve relations- a gesture not forgotten by the Holy Empire.
It was for this reason that the cabinet had previously gathered during the morning meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss the situation with the Republic. Many found it ironic how quickly times had changed over several months, not long ago they had been discussing the invasion or nuclear bombardment of that hapless country to the Northwest hundreds of thousands of miles away. This time it was of a peaceful nature which was a great relief to the cabinet since war was usually to of the agenda list these days. A quick discussion on the “better than ever” relations with the Republic was met with surprising enthusiasm when one cabinet minister brought forward drafted proposals of a single embassy exchange program. Stevid disliked these advertisements nations broadcast every month or so asking for an embassy exchange, it was so informal and the ambassadors almost never met with the head of state which is why the Holy Empire had contacted the Republic of Kanami on their new embassy line for an exchange- Stevid did the old fashioned, more formal, if not the proper, way to exchange and embassy, face-to-face discussions so details could be finalised relatively quickly and personally as well has getting to know the country you are exchanging with better. In the case of Kanami and Stevid, conflict was all these countries knew, there was nation national hatred for each other in both the populations of the Empire and the Republic and would take serious but methodical diplomacy to get relations back to the way they should’ve been from day one.
A face-to-face talk with Ms. Eleanor Romany or subsequent diplomats would allow Stevid to fulfil a promise they signed up to when they signed the treaty that ended the Hanover Conflict for good. Talk of a future alliance had greatly enthralled Kanami since a strong ally could be a decent bargaining chip in hostile negotiations, Stevid was a highly influential power, even in its darkest moments, and had already managed to drag Kurona back from conflict gave the idea of a peace settlement over the whole Hataria fiasco which strangely ended in nuclear devastation. The quick action from the Foreign Office to keep the Empire out of the war had been massively applauded by all opposition parties in parliament and by the whole Empire. An alliance with Kanami would show that bitter enemies could become friends (time would tell whether or not they would become the best of friends) and Kanami had a government that, while not internationally recognised as a dominant one that could stop or start a conflict with just a few word, was seen as a powerful and extremely stubborn one at the negotiating table. An ally like that could save Stevid a lot of trouble in the future. However as far as alliances were concerned it would be the most influential of those out there, defensive action taken to protect one another would hopefully be minimal since both countries were in a good position with stable enough militaries and economies to fight for themselves. The alliance would show that if needed, both nations could rely on each other to help has well as being a symbol of peace- enemies could become friends.
It was agreed only an hour into the cabinet meeting, officials and maybe the head of state of the Republic would be invited over to the capital city of Stevid where talks of an embassy exchange program and details of an economic/military alliance and other cultural exchanges would be discuss. If not here then in Kanami, Stevid had hosted Kanami last time and it may be easier for Kanami if the Prime Minister flew over there- whatever worked for Kanami would be the path Stevid followed in the course of this particular diplomatic channel.

To: The Republic of Kanami
From: The Holy Empire of Stevid- Imperial Foreign and Commonwealth Office
Dear esteemed sirs/ladies,
Stevid made a promise to your government upon signing the Hanover Peace Accords several months ago to which we will dearly up hold. We said then and maintain now that we could seriously consider an embassy exchange with your nation long proper diplomatic channels, we also promise your state a future alliance that Stevid is now ready to help support. This is not only a gesture of goodwill to your nation, nor is it only the Empire upholding the treaty that it signed- it is also a thank you.
Kanami intervened at the right time to aid your ally and the Empire’s ally Kurona from the brink of destruction. The conventional war that Hataria was fighting, as you now probably know, turned into a strategic one a couple of days ago and thus the conventional war turned into a nuclear war. Kurona could quite possibly have been caught up in this seeing as Kurona is in the Xanadou region as is Hataria. Kurona’s allegiance to the nation could have meant that Kurona would once again fall victim to a nuclear attack on a much greater scale than the last time. Your quick and influential intervention has help the Empire save one of its most trusted allies from annihilation and also has prevented Stevid from fighting yet another war- a war that would have meant the use of Stevid’s own nuclear arsenal, an arsenal that could be put to better use on far more dangerous enemies that we are currently fighting.
In respect of this, we have seen that Kanami deserves our full and complete respect and diplomatic attention and in so doing with to discuss, face-to-face, an embassy exchange and a long-term alliance between the Empire and the Republic. Whatever is more convenient to your government we will adhere to, you can either visit us or we will repay you in kind for your last visit here and we shall travel to Kanami to begin discussions, it is no inconvenience to us which ever option you decide upon- assuming that is you accept our offer an embassy and an alliance.
We hope you consider this offer and accept it in kind, we shall not hold it against you in anyway if you decide to decline but in the interest of furthering our already good relations we hope you accept.
Thank you for your attention.
There was a knock at the door. "Come." Karou opend the door. "Karou."
"Sorry to interupt, but this just arrived."
She read through the note. "Well it's come to this again has it?"
"I have a better feeling about this. Last time it was the Hanover islands that we were both conscious about, now they want relations."
"How do you think this will go over with AHSCA?"
"Besides the fact we technically have no formal relations?"
"Karou, we swore to protect them and we failed, their image of us and the world is tainted. Shino is my one link to calm thoes islands down."
"I know Elenore-sama. "
"I'm sorry Karou, it does please me greatly that Stevid want's to meet and mend relations. I'm still worried about the fate of thoes island."
"They're in good hands being with Aleard Humnaitarian Workers, and UK2 Red Cross Workers."
"Your right. So how do you think we should go about this? I know we should invite him, but I'm wondering if we should keep it quite. After all we're holding over a 1000 refugees, from both Stevid and AHSCA, one of which has now become a spokes person (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=530006) major media outlet. He comes, you can be sure they will gather to protest."
"Well I know we can't stop the crowds, but we can send him through an alternate route. Rather than bring him to the Parliamentry Building, bring him to the Prime Minister's mantion. Like you did with Prime Minister Villehardouin. You may not desire a press confrense right away, but you can get started."
"I guess that is a good idea. All right Karou, bring him here."
"Right away."

To: THE EMPIRE OF STEVID
From: THE REPUBLIC OF KANAMI-Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Thank you for your letter,
We are more than pleased that you have decided to come to Kanami to renew relations with us. It's been quite some time since our first faithful gathering and we hope this gathering can be an enriching experience. You are more than welcome to bring your family along, just as you allowed us when we settled hanover.
Elenore looks forward to seeing you, please arrive at Kanami International Airport at 10:00 A.m. On the morning of (OOC: [date here]). From there a car will take you to the Prime Minsiter's Mantion. You are welcome to bring your own security. Kanami Secret Service will also provide protection for you and/or family. You may also bring any staff members along as well.
Thank you,
Karou A. Kamiah
Minister of Foreing Affairs
The message received back from Kanami was welcomed with heart from the foreign office and while national hatred for Kanami was ripe the public’s attention was much more concerned with the Golden Throne and Imperial claimants in the local war. Peace with Kanami would be much appreciated by the public and would gain votes for the Prime Minister with an already surprisingly high approval rating; he would not be seen as a complete warmonger. Unfortunately for Stevid, Kanami’s population did not share the same view- many wanted Conroy’s head, others wanted a continuation of the war and an end to Imperial rule in Stevid, Kanami was a Republic- that very type of political government was traditionally against Empires and Kanami was no different.
Still both sides, no matter how much they hated the idea, had to create a long standing and strong relationship. The Empire of Stevid was on its last legs and so needed as many friends as possible before the end came for the country and its history, Kanami would prove to be a wise ally and one than proved the enemies could become friends. Kanami’s invitation to their homeland was a welcome one and PM David Conroy wasted no time on arranging his private jet and cabinet for the long haul flight to this distant country.
“Right then let’s make a move then people.” Conroy said standing in the hall of Number 65, security officials bustling past and opening the doors of the armoured saloon car. David’s wife, Michaela, stood smartly dressed in a blue silk dress with a less than enthusiastic look on her face. He frowned in bemusement and then sympathy as he realised what was going through her head.
“Come on my Dear.” He said and gently kissed her on the cheek that brought an attractive smile from a red lips. “We’ll be fine, nothing bad could possibly happen. The police in Kanami and our own services have worked with each other to maximise our safety.”
“But you are despised over there darling, I don’t want the kids there- I’m glad you agreed to that, but anything CAN happen, you could be assassinated and I do not want to be a widow at my age.”
“These are dangerous times Maccy and I’m sure you didn’t marry me in thinking that I was going to be free of threats, I was the son of this country’s most tyrannical dictator. Assassination is just one small aspect of my life that I and this family, indeed this country and government, have to live with. We’ll both be perfectly safe… I promise you.”
He kissed again on the cheek, took her hand and held it tightly in a comforting way. Smiled again and kissed him on the lips, he loved her so dearly and the last thing Conroy wanted was her to get hurt. He admired her courage for accepting the invitation to Kanami, she would undoubtedly be ridiculed in Kanami for marrying a “tyrant”, an imperialist dog. She had dashing looks and was extremely attractive but behind her beautiful pale face was a character that didn’t do things for lust despite the deceptive looks- family first, her kids and husband took top priority in her life and if that meant going to a dangerous country for Stevidians then so be it.
The three cars driving several cabinet ministers, the Prime Minister and his wife rolled out of Lowlands Road with four police motorcycle escorts to accompany them to the International airport of the capital city. In the Prime Minister’s car was another man, not one of working for either MI5 or the police but the fleet air arm who had been recognised as a great veteran of the air in the Hanover conflict and had requested that he be present. His name was James Franklin and a squadron leader in the fleet air arm going by the call-sign CEO-789 and had a run in with a particular female pilot during the first air battle of the first war- RED-001, an enemy call sign that was rather well known on the CVF carrierHMS Köln where word of female pilots being used by Kanami had spread very quickly. It was only for the safety of the female sex that women could not fly in the air force, G-Forces on the body would interfere with the process of child conception, bearing and birth and even if the woman did not want children there is no guarantee that they would change their mind. James wanted to meet this female pilot, the way she had flown had impressed him and he had never met a female pilot in military service before so it would make quite an experience.
“Do you think you’ll find her James?” Michaela asked him softly.
“Oh definitely ma’am.” He replied waving a folder in front of him and his company. “I’ve been trying to track her down for sometime simply because I need to see her face-to-face, one pilot to another. I didn’t shoot her down because, partly she was a woman, but also because I couldn’t bring myself to do it in cold blood after I saw her flying that plane. It’s always easier to do it when you don’t see them, I’m sure she is thankful to still have retained her life after that day- it will be interesting to meet her after the last time we did on less favourable circumstances.”
He patted the file on his lap with a large grin on his face.
“Thank you MI6, is there nothing you guys can’t do.” he said to himself.
Stevid International Airport- Stevid Capita
The cars rolled on to the main runway way where the Prime Ministerial aircraft Stevid Three sat with the engines roaring. The other two were being serviced but Conroy preferred Stevid Three to the other two. This was a Boeing 707 jet and was significantly smaller than the 747 of Stevid Two and the A380 of Stevid One. Within minutes of arriving everyone one was gathered onboard, strapped in and ready to go to the Republic of Kanami.
Ten minutes later they were airborne with no escorts, at least not until they had reached the Northern tip of Stevid and entered the North Otium Aqua Straights that had been a resting place for many silent enemy submarines from the Golden Throne. Two XF-25 Hawkers converged on the 707 and escorted it far out to see and then returned to Stevid as the Prime Minister, his wife, the squadron leader, members of the cabinet and MI6 began there eleven hour flight to Kanami stopping only to refuel at the controversial islands of the North Hanover Island Chain Dependency.
Time flew by quicker than Conroy remembered since his last visit to Kanami and that was in the faster 747 of Stevid Two, but after refuelling at West Hanover and getting permission from Kanami air traffic control in the capital city to across into their airspace they were escorted into Republic territory by the very distinctive F-22a Raptors that the Kanami air force loved oh so very much.
Landing was made half an hour later, the Boeing landed with no problems on a very crowded runway parking bay adjacent to the runway. Black saloon cars and a great deal many police cars and bikes marked the security forces, three more black cars with two flags flying from the front, one Stevid and one Kanami, were probably for the PM and his cabinet. Michaela, looking flustered with worry, forced a meek smile for her husband as he too smiled at her and took her hand.
“It’ll be fine Michaela, I hear they’ve planned a route that bypasses the crowds.”
“Oh you know those sleazy scum-bag press reporters, democracies leak like sieves, the Kanami public will find us and hurl abuse at you. That I don’t mind, I just hope they don’t hurl anything else at you.”
He smiled and winked as they got out of their seats and left the plane. On the tarmac the Prime Minister was greeted by members of the security force that Kanami had sent and after the shaking of many hands and dispensing of pleasantries and friendly banter, the group moved off towards the Kanami Parliament to meet Eleanor Romany. The Squadron Leader James Franklin took a cab, but under Kanami security supervision, to a small airfield out of town where MI6 had learnt where this “Lucy” worked with the Kanami fleet air arm.
In less than one hour the Prime Minister would be sitting face-to-face with the one woman who had caused him so many sleepless nights and so much trouble, this time however it was under more favourable circumstances.
"Blasted Press..." Elenore threw down a newspaper that had frontpage news: Stevid Prime Minister Visits Kanami!
"I'm sorry ma'am, we did our best to keep it underwraps." Replied Jason. "But don't worry, I contacted the Secret Service and the Police of Carmina Gadalica, and the National Guard. Not one person will be along that route. That's the price of free press."
"I hate the idea of abriding the right to assemble, but I'm..."
"You're worried the crowd will turn violent, don't worry Elenore, under the Constitution you are in perfect right to prevent protest because you have viable reason to belive it will go violent. And there is a safe area away from him and his family where protesters will gather. I also called in to several prime shops and resteraunts in Kanami and have ordered them close to the public. Secret Service Agents are standing by as we speak."
"This is why you are my Minister of Interior, good work Jason."
"Think there may be a raise in my future?"
"Don't count on it, the taxes are high enough."
"Right."
The phone rang. "Go ahead. Uh-hu, right." He hung up. "Kanami Air Force has picked up Conroy's Plane he should be landing in an hour. "
"Okay. Air Traffic Controll has been notofied right?"
"Ut-oh."
"Jason?!"
"Come on Elenore I'm just messing with you."
She sighed. "Very funny. I'm not in the mood for this..."
"Relax Elenore, relax. Everyone from the Ministry of Defense to the office clerk knows. Just take it easy."
Air Traffic Controll
"Hot plane."
"Hot plane at 109876."
"Tower to Stevid Two you are clear to proceed, turn to 2589 and proceed to land at Runway 44, over."
Copy That tower.
"Who are these guys?"
"Fighter escorts, you need not worry about them."
"This is Air Traffic Controll to all Fighter Escort craft you are to proceed to Stardust Military Base, 15.8 miles due west, 665879."
Outside a blizzard of activity. Police on cars and motorcycles proceeded lights and sirens ablaze. Secret Service Agents patiently waited as the plane rolled up." The hatch doors opend. "Good morning sir, I'm Special Agent Russ Kent, this is my Partner Special Agent Yuki Kimura, we are with Foreign Dignatary Protection of the Kanami Secret Service. We are going to personally escort you to the Prime Minister her self. Please enter the car sir."
Everyone exchanged greetings and enterd. "Sir, the Prime Minister has anticipated you and your family may be nervouse. The news of your arrival has made it to the press but I assure you we will pass through no crowds along the way. I would also like to assure you this limo is bullet proof, and has been tested to withstand the impact of over a dozen cinderblocks and bricks. You and your family are quite safe. Also like when the good madam visted your country your family is welcome to tour the country. Several key places have been closed off and are under our jurisdiction for the time being. Agents will be with your family at all times sir. Agent Kimura will also be a personal agent assigned to your wife."
A special request to meet with an Airforce piolt was requested. "I'll get right on that." Russ picked up a car phone and dialed. "This is Special Agent Kent put me through to Prime Minister Romney please."
"This is Elenore. Really? Sure, just a moment." She usherd Alex over to her. "Alex one of the Stevidan Officers desires to meet Air Force Wing Commander Luci Evansen."
"The Lucy?"
"That's the one. Yeah I can arrange a meeting. She's at Star Dust doing recruitment training."
"Tell them it's okay."
"thank you."
"All right sir, a meeting has been arranged for both of you upon our arrival at the Mantion you will go with another set of Agents to Star Dust Military Base."
He was thanked and had his hand shook. "This is 5th Avenue."
They finally arrived. Everyone had stepped out the sirens ceased. "Here they are. The car doors were opend, first stepped out the agents then all the guests. Everyone exchanged greetings. Conroy was meeting some of Elenore's Cabinate for the very first time.
"Right this way sir."
She led him inside, to her office. "Take a seat. Would you like anything to drink? We have everything except alchol.
Conroy passed on the opportunity for a drink while Michaela ordered water which was dutifully brought to her. Some more small talk continued until the lady herself arrived, well dressed and slender, Eleanor never failed to impress the eye. Both David and Michaela rose, the Prime minister extended his hand in friendship to his Kanami counterpart which she took also and they shook hands. Conroy treasured these moments, it only takes a week to declare a war and just as long to end it, conflict end and alliances begin with handshakes, such a simple gesture that was truly universal.
“Madam Romany it is excellent to see you again once more and on such a lovely day too… Erm, my beautiful wife Michaela you know already but it is still polite to reintroduce.”
Eleanor exchanged the pleasantries and they immediately, much to the relief of the Conroys, went straight into phatic talk- talking about the family, life in each other’s nations and the domestic problems being suffered in the countries. This continued on for nearly an hour or so until something happened that David, Michaela or Eleanor expected. An MI6 agent waltzed into room, apologised for interrupting and Eleanor nodded in approval. He leaned over to Conroy and whispered into his ear for several minutes and then stood to attention behind him while Conroy sat there starring right past Eleanor and out the window- he was white as a sheet.
“Ma’am, Michaela. There is an extremely important video phone call I have to take. Believe me- this is urgent and could end the Golden War of Succession that Stevid has been fighting for so long.”
He stood and left immediately without waiting for a reply.
One Hour Later
Whether or not Eleanor was greatly offended by this act or not was not the gravest concern of David right now as he sat back down in the chair an hour later. Eleanor (and Michaela) asked him whether everything was alright, he sat in the chair trying to relax but his pale face and trembling hand showed plainly that everything was not.
Well…The Golden War of Succession is now over.” He started much to Michaela’s delight and the raising of an eyebrow of Eleanor. “But it has been ended in a very grave and rather unorthodox manner, I manner that I don’t regret but wish there had been an alternative… Stevid has just detonated an IRBM One Megaton nuclear missile over enemy territory wiping out a very dangerous hostile missile battery. The civilian casualties are… well…unacceptable to be frank as they now stand at just over fifty thousand and increasing. The war is over, ultimately Stevid has lost the war despite the gains in territory we failed to achieve our goals.”
He let the shock sink in, the loss of life was massive, and the principles of Stevid had been upheld but the statement made the country look a bit rash and even barbaric.
“If this is going to affect the talks Ms. Romany then we should postpone but I hope it won’t come to that. It’s your choice but Stevid is safe from retaliation, a ceasefire will be accepted by both sides but I don’t want this terrible action to get in the way of this peace process.”
"It's a pleasure to see you again Michaela. If you ask me I think you're quite lucky to have him as a husband." Elenore did have a fond respect for Michaela. She never saw her that much, she wasn't spoken of that much. But knowing Conroy's personal history and knowing the risks involved she showed unconditional love. "You don't have to stay here all day, you are welcome to tour about Kanami, we have many places under lock and key by the Secret Service. Well anyway..." She was interupted by the entrance of a Scecret Service Agent form Stevid. He whisperd something, Conroy made an ubrupt exit. "That's odd." It was sometime before he came back again and told Stevid's long war was over. Elenore though was feeling a mixed of confused emotions. Ending a war is alway glorious. Conroy further explained the loss of life involved to do it. Exactly why Kanami destested nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons was a recipe for terror.
"Well I must say...I will only contiune if you fell able to continue. I don't suppose you would be opposed to us giving humanitarian aid. You must understand it's in our principals to aid in the recovery of a post war process. Even if it's the enemy of our enemy or in this case, the enemy of our freind. I am glad to hear you are finally ending the war." Elenore didn't want to cricitcize. She wrote out a note to Akiko.
Conroy shook his head at Prime Minister Eleanor’s suggestion but with a smile and with a face that certainly thank her for the gesture of good will.
“No, humanitarian aid will not be necessary. The Golden Throne has far too much pride to accept aid from foreigners unless it is urgently needed. As far as a single megaton blast goes and despite the fifty thousand dead civilians, there’ll manage perfectly. Their nation has not been devastated by this attack and I am informed that they are already progressing well with the cleanup. When Stevid fell victim to a nuclear attack we did not push for humanitarian aid, the cleanup is ongoing and the rebuilding of the dockyards and the Fifth Fleet is continuous- but humanitarian aid, for either us, is not necessary but thank you for the gesture…I’m not going to let this incident interrupt our negotiations in any way.”
He paused, Eleanor seemed to understand if not a little hurt by having her offer turned down, but soon they would be allies in all sense of the word. Kanami was one country Stevid would like to be friends with, she could help Kanami’s economy and military which was, in the terms of Stevid’s technology and advancements, terribly obsolete.
“Ms. Romany I’m here, as you are well aware, to bring our nations closer together and hopefully end the pathetic rivalry between our two nations, there is still hate within the realms of the public which I wish to stamp out. Stevid isn’t the most tolerant nation in the world but it certainly isn’t racist. An alliance, an economic, military and political one, would benefit both our nations incredibly. Kanami has so much to gain from this whereas Stevid gains very little. We gain credibility and another well sought after international friend. Kanami gain all that plus access to a great and powerful nation such as us, while you will not benefit from the same Imperial protection as Kurona does, Kanami will have a powerful military friend to use as a bargaining chip at negotiations if you are threatened with military action.
“Also Stevid will soon be opening a naval capital ship storefront which gives Kanami access to some of the most powerful ships that used to, or still are, sailing on the high seas which includes Super Dreadnoughts, carriers and Command Battleships. These aren’t cheap but as an ally of Stevid you will of course get discount. This will go a long way to making Kanami a powerful nation of the seas.
“I put it to you now Ms. Romany that if you accept the simple terms of an alliance then the benefits to your nation will be amazing. You are of course, not becoming a member of the Empire. If you wish to be then we will of course accept you but you will have representatives of Stevid within the Kanami Parliament and if the Empire calls you to help in military action then we expect you to answer… but as a perfectly well defined Republic- you will probably just stick with an alliance… I hope you accept the alliance ma’am, please consider. Thank you for your time Eleanor.”
Conroy leaned back into his chair and waited anxiously for Eleanor’s reply.
"I do say...Your offer is a generous one indeed. We don't wish to become members of your Empire as Kurona did. But an alliance ship is still welcome. I think the best thing we can do is to draft a pact." Elenore pulled out a glass case from the cabinate. Enclosed was an old document. "This as you might recongize is the Aqua-Oka Pact of 1809. This is what joined Aqua Anu and Kanami together as freinds. Mr. Conroy, if it did it once, it can do it again. I feel Kanami needs a solid pact treaty between us. All details of war time and peacetime and our basic promises to each other. You may not belive this but this is the orginal pact. One of the only times you will see a historic document especially pretaining to our founding mother and allies out here in the open. We really keep everything else in a military vault. But you know this doccument survived the bombing. When everything in this building was totaled this surived. A pact of freindship. It's an omen to something good. A pact between our selves and you. Okay I'm rambling what I'm trying to say is I accept your offer and I want to start drafting a pact."

Star Dust Military Instilation
The Squadron Leader James Franklin exited the car. "Welcome to Star Dust Sir. If you follow me I will take you right to Wing Commander Evansen. You two will have the comfort and quite of her office."
They knocked and entered. "Commander Evansen, we have a guest for you."
"Thank you men."
They saluted and about faced out of the office.
"I'm Wing Commander Lucy Evansen, it's a pleasure to meet you sir. No doubt you are part of the recent Stevid enterage that's come."
David nodded as Eleanor spoke, clearly impressed by this artefact of Kanami’s and wasn’t at all uncomfortable when the Kanami Prime Minister made her little speech on the morals and principles that the Kanami/Aqua Anu treaty stood for. He completely understood and while Stevid hadn’t had an alliance like that for nearly seventy years it would be excellent if the Stevid/Kanami alliance took a decent step in that direction.
“I’m sure it is a text your two cultures most adore, I’m it will be respected for many centuries onwards from this day. But you are right an alliance most not be as vague as I have made and so certain aspects, no matter how obvious or self-explanatory they may be. I was hoping to just cover the basics, you have an upcoming election which I hope you will win considering the peace you are trying to bring so I do not want to keep you dear lady.”
Tens of minutes passed as a scribe was summoned to write down the most import features of the alliance that would be immediately address, the civil servants and other paper pushing bureaucrats could polish off the more obscure details later. If David and Eleanor wanted to do such things then they would have chosen a place within the civil service and not the political ministry.
“Well the first point would be mutual co-operation between our two countries I suppose. To help each other through times of need at a political, military and economical level if the occasion calls for it. We would then reserve the right to help each other on a military scale but we don’t have the obligation to become directly involved if it doesn’t suit us. A good example of this was the Hatarian incident between the Questerian Commonwealth and Kurona, we decided that it was in the best interests of the Empire and Stevid’s relationship with the Commonwealth that we should not intervene. The same circumstances can be applied here, we do not favour the Magic Sorcery in anyway shape or form and probably never will, Kanami has a friendly relationship with them thus war between Kanami and MS would give you the liberty to either take sides or not become involved at all.
“Another point would be that we can promote our nations’ ideas and ideologies in each other’s countries to help the populations tolerate each other far more than they do now. Plebe bonding is crucial it this stage particularly when there is still hatred; to do this would require an embassy exchange which is one of the points I addressed to you with the opening message you received from us several weeks ago.
“I’m sure this treaty would be beneficial to both our countries in the long run whether you win or lose the next election. Kanami is a noisy country and is attracting many countries out there that are both hostile and friendly, Kanami needs friends and quickly. Getting the Holy Empire on your side means you have an exceptionally powerful ally, one that could possibly deter any hostile opposition.
“I understand that you do not wish to become part of the Empire to which we graciously respect…I hope the treaty sounds to your liking Ma’am.”
(sorry I havent posted in so long. It's been a busy few weekes I'll post really soon)
