Question about FT (Open to anyone who can help)

First, let me say sorry if this is a repeat thread. I searched FT to see if there is a thread like this, but I can't find one. If this is a repeat I'll ask a mod to delete this right away, but I would like my question to be answered first. Here it goes.

What do I have to do to join the FT timeframe?

I know I'll have to make up a new thing to rp because I'm keeping Green Hawk MT, but do I have to make up a planet or a new nation? Are there things I need to know? Please help this noob. Thanks in advance.

Well; what kind of FT nation do you want to be? is probably the first question you need to answer to yourself.

For example my little used Animarnia FT branch is a 9 Planet System with two M (Earth Class) Planets orbiting a Sol Type Star. the Governement is democracy; we have around 10 ish Coloneys on other worlds but these are small. and 2 systems dedicated for Military Use; and we have an Area 51 type System refuered to as Alpha Site.

you might also want to decide your tech level; if your going for late Sci-fi type FT or more Hard-Fi FT; heck you might want to decide if your species is even human :) and if not what to make up.

Animarnians are High Gravity Worlders; so we're stronger in normal G; we're mostly human but we have some Elvens and a few other ...experiments. our tech is mostly Sci-fi Era WankTech more than HardFi but I try to make the Laws of Physics Cry a little but not bleed to death and go into a Coma..

What types are there?

You can be whatever type of FT nation you want to and you do not have to get a new nation. Several players do a little of each, or perhaps a lot of each. Search for the region "the planet mars" and go to their forums and check it out, they have maps and everything. there is also a comunity of those who are largely based around starwars tech, and then theres everything in between. Basically here, as long as the writing is good and the situation is reasonable (and I use that term loosely), no one here will mind what you choose to do.

See my Edited Post. I figured I should explain after I presed the post button; you should also decide if you want to make your own tech set or go with an existing one.

Yeah Starwars is quite popular here; as is star trek, Stargate, BSG and some people just make up there own stuff like I did. if you want an FT RP I'll be happy to help you out with no strings; its been a while since I touched my FT stuff.

This is very simple.

Apply your MT government to space, get a bunch of flying penii (just steal your ships from a random techline), and post.

I mean it's really just that simple. Then when you have time, you can make up your own stuff.

Well I guess I would want to be sort of early FT. Having the ability to make ships and stuff like sub-light engines, inter-galactic engines and other stuff like that, but not going as far as things that would only be made in hundreds of years from MT time period. Think Stargate's Daedalus class ships and having one or two planets populated.

Some people prefer to play as a new nation on Earth, branching out into space - this is (or was, I haven't kept up) especially common over in the NationStates forum FT community. Others prefer to start up as a completely separate planet, either as a human colony or as the homeworld of a completely alien civilisation.

As for what to do, I would suggest that you do the same as you would for any other nation at any technology level. Decide on who your people are, what their culture is like, who the important characters are. Are they democratic socialists, or maniacs? Do they enjoy art, culture, music, or are these concepts meaningless to them? What kind of government do they have? Are they aliens? What kind of aliens? What is their homeworld's environment like, and how did it influence their evolution? Perhaps their homeworld has many different environments like Earth, and so numerous races have cropped up and you could roleplay the political and social differences between them. Who are the influential figures in your society? Get their names and personalities down before you start, and it'll be much easier to maintain continuity - I learned that lesson early on. I must have gone through a half-dozen leaders before finally writing the bloody name down and developing a character!

Your technology is a plot device to be sure, so don't focus your efforts there too much - focus instead primarily on your nation's culture and its characters. But still, your technology is going to be of importance, and it can reflect upon the people who built it (for this reason, don't just take a soulless carbon copy of a franchise). How did your people get to their current technology level? Through generations of civil warfare, or through peaceful curiosity? Why did they decide to build what they built? What *is* their current technology level? Consider the practical reasons for the technology being employed. Would it really make sense for a nation of pacifistic isolationists with no knowledge of alien races to be flying around in a fleet of heavily armed warships? Perhaps they are scientists by nature, and have a particularly advanced set of propulsion and power plant technologies, but little in the way of weaponry. Maybe they abhor violence, and so rely on incredibly powerful shields. Or perhaps they are plain old-fashioned clichéd evil-dudes who have fairly primitive technology but loads of guns. Does the environment on their world necessitate the development of specific technologies for their survival? Perhaps they come from a low-gravity world, and do not need artificial gravity systems. Questions like these should be addressed when deciding what sort of technology they are going to use, and how it will develop in future roleplays.

Take a look through the introductory posts of other future technology nations to see how they did it. Some are better than others.

Search your mind, use your imagination, and best of luck to you.

Then I really think that one of the best RP communities to get at least a start in would be the mars one. of course things there require research and time but its at the very least good practice until you find people who you enjoy rping with.

Where is a good place to start? There is a lot forums in the site and I have no idea what some of the stuff there means.

If your talking about mars:

Planetary Data Links -> News -> Demimonde

If NS

Either II or NationStates (all others have no real RPing)

Here is the outline of a background story for my FT planet. Everyone is human for you to know.

There was once a planet with two countries, they were called Cerberus and Draco. At first the two countries were close friends and they stayed that way for years, but there old ways of trade was ruined with money. Soon money became power and the way to get money was though land. Massive weapons called reapers could clear whole forest in seconds and could remove a mountain in minutes, they were used as a way to gain more land for cities. No one had thought to use them as weapons, but they never needed to be used as weapons for the damaged to be done. The planet became ravage. Oceans polluted to the point that travel by ship became impossible. Land ruined that no one could live in certain areas. Soon war broke out because Cerberus wanted more land. Both sides fought for thousands of years. They fought in the air with aircraft because the sea and land was too damaged to fight on. Soon the battle went from the air to space.

The planet became so damaged beyond repair that Draco called for peace. Cerberus said that there can be no peace with out one of the two sides dead. Draco then decided that it would be best if the war ended now even if it meant killing billions. They put as many people as they could fit onto ships and left, but not before activating hundreds of reapers on the planet. Everyone left behind on both Draco and Cerberus died. The ones who left found a new planet and started over.

Thats where I'll start rping I guess. Also, this is just an idea and I'm going to add more stuff as I think up new things. I just wanted to know what you think of it.

Announce you are FT. There is nothing specific you have to do. Some good things to do are:

1) Design a few ships to use. Or buy them. Huntaer and Kormanthor have some ships for sale.

2) Describe your solar system before you start playing.

3) Choose the tech you are going to use. Usually you pick something like, star trek, star wars, babylon 5, hard science fiction, or your own tech.

4) Choose a species to use. It can be human, but it doesn't have to be. Think through your species descriptions and motivations.

5) Look at a few future tech nation factbooks.

1) Started doing that since I was 13 (after I saw Star Trek for the first time)

2) Only got one planet, but I guess there can be moon and maybe a few other planets. With one giant star of coarse to act as the sun

3) My own tech which is I guess close to Stargate's tech level

4) Humen, they just want to start over and maybe kill anyone from Cerberus they find. Mainly start a new life however, it takes a long time to fully colonize a planet you know

5) I'll start doing that after I post this

Generally, I think of most FT systems having a planet with a moon or moons-- suitable for colonization-- it doesn't have to be earthlike as long as you can build habitats on it, a few other planets-- maybe like Pluto or Mars, a sun this can be almost any type of sun-- red dwarf, yellow sun, etc and a few asteroids or an asteroid field which can be mined for raw material.

Most FT nations seem to have some kind of ship yard for building and maintaining a space navy and a military base for training space marines on a moon or something like that.
