Major Cities
Disclaimer: the following information has not been updated since the government took power.
1. North River
This huge city is extremely crowded. It stands astride a river and is mainly constructed of granite. It renown as the beginning point of the Colonial Revolution and its most noteworthy feature is the lavish mausoleum holding the remains of revolutionary leader Johannes Crichton who died from complications form a wound suffered in battle only hours after hearing the news of Colony West’s independence.
2. Richmond
This is a moderately sized city built predominantly of timber and situated on one of the New Mangudai Islands. It is well known for its invariably mild weather. Most of its revenue comes from shipping.
3. Timberport
This relatively small city is built mostly from timber and is Robinson’s economic center. It is well known for the deep divide between the lavish living of its upper class and the squalor its poorer denizens endure. The upper class are mostly self made entrepreneurs in the shipping industry, which is the main source of this city’s revenue. The vast majority of all timber and fruits exported from the north go through this city.
4. Princeton
This modest, curiously empty city in the heart of the kingdom is best known as the birthplace of the current dictator. The majority of its inhabitants are involved in smuggling, and it is considered noteworthy for its detailed murals, mostly of agrarian landscapes.
5. Newton
This is a huge, extremely crowded city built predominantly of timber and the only city in the kingdom still defended by local militia. It is well known for its unique architecture. Most of its revenue comes from fur and timber.
6. Landing
Landing was the first permanent settlement in what is now Colony West. This moderate-sized, not very populous city beside the sea is best known as a backwater. The majority of its inhabitants are involved in horse trading, and it is considered noteworthy for its red light district
7. Watershed
This large, bustling city is well known for its active market square. It serves as a coming together point for farmers and cattle ranchers and is known as a rowdy, less-than-law-abiding city. Most of its inhabitants are involved in the black market. It is known as the “Cow Pie Capitol of Colony West”, a nickname still leftover form the old days when citizens were permitted to lead their livestock through the city on foot on the way to the market.
8. Deep Valley
This huge city is crowded. It stands in a deep valley and is mainly constructed of granite. Most of the original city is surrounded by thick walls and its most noteworthy feature is the beautiful central square. In former times this city was the economic powerhouse of the colony, being the main point of departure for pioneers heading into Shaw.
9. Port Royal
This moderate-sized, extremely crowded city at the edge of King’s Bay is best known as a cultural Mecca. The former capitol of Colony West, it is still the capitol of New Kingsland, the oldest and wealthiest province in the nation. The majority of its inhabitants serve as patrons to the arts, and it is considered noteworthy for its massive carved gates of ivory.
10. Creighton
This moderate-sized city is curiously packed with the less fortunate of Colony West’s population. It stands in the heart of the country and is mainly constructed of timber. It is a gathering point for many unemployed workers who seek to eventually find a job in Port Royal, but cannot afford the rents there. This combination of the lower class is racially diverse, a diversity which is evidenced in its renown eclectic architectural style. The main source of revenue is fishing.
11. Kubliana
This is a modest, yet prosperous city built predominantly of granite, but with a large old town sector composed of marble. It is well known for its massive carved gates that are nearly as impressive as those in Port Royal. It was briefly the capitol of Colony East before its charter was revoked and its lands given to Colony West. It is unique in that most of its revenue comes from metalwork, followed closely by its fairly new computer software industry and it is possibly the most technologically advanced city in the country.
12. Hampton
This small, but crowded city on the coast is best known as a haven for the arts. The majority of its inhabitants are involved in fishing, and it is considered noteworthy for its large and busy market square.
13. Olathe
This modest city is moderately crowded. It stands beside the sea and is mainly constructed of brick. It is home to one of the two universities in Colony West and is well known for its colorful tiled roofs.
14. Pottersdon
This modest, prosperous city is the iconic center of the “heartland” of Colony West. The majority of its inhabitants are involved in agriculture, and it is considered noteworthy for being the only city to support farmers growing the cash crop of tobacco.
15. Colony City
This large, yet sparsely populated city at the edge of civilization is best known as a playground for the wealthy. The majority of its inhabitants are involved in textiles or agriculture, and it is considered noteworthy for its yearly harvest festival. This city is the capital of Colony West, but the governments plan to draw more people into the “heartland” by moving the capitol here instead of Port Royal is having seemingly little effect.
16. Franchburg
This moderate-sized city is well-populated. It stands beside the sea and is mainly constructed of stone. It is defined by the remnant of a fort around which the city was founded and its most noteworthy feature is the surrounding hot springs. Its main source of revenue is tourism, especially at its luxury hot springs resorts.
17. Habrigtol
This modest city is the capitol of Garret, the southernmost province with a coastline. Its well established middle class make most of their money from the shipping industry which handles agricultural goods from Garret as well as ore mined in Friesland and Dour. It is especially noted for its small central square filled with gardens and with sidewalks paved in gold. The square is a sad reminder of more prosperous days for Habrigtol however, as nearly half of the minerals mined from the mountainous regions is now sent by cargo plane from Edwardsville’s new airport to Port Royal or Port Firegrove to be shipped.
18. Edwardsville
This is a moderate-sized, extremely crowded city built predominantly of adobe and situated in the foothills of the southern mountain range. It is well known for its colorful Latin quarter. Most of its revenue comes from tourism.
19. Niel
This small city is bustling. It stands in the mountains and is mainly constructed of rock. It is the Capitol of Friesland and serves as a central hub of activity for prospectors in the surrounding mountains. Its most noteworthy feature is the imposing bell tower on its only church.
20. Port Firegrove
This massive, crowded city serves as the capitol of Wiens and is the most influential city in the nation. It is home to most of the nations cooperate headquarters and residents of this city control nearly 80% of the farmland in Colony West, despite the fact that the entire island this city is on, King’s Island, doesn’t sport one farm and most citizens have never seen the farms they own. This is also the most cosmopolitan city in the nation being the first place most immigrants come. It is home to the nations largest harbor, naval yard, air force base, and airport. This city and its many suburbs cover nearly half of King’s Island. It was considered to be the national capitol after it was decided that keeping the national capitol at Port Royal where the colonial capitol had been was not “sufficiently symbolic of our new independence”, but it lost out to Colony City because of the governments plan to draw people into the heartland. Many residents still make regular derisive jokes about those hicks in Colony City running the country.

Terain:
Mostly plains with mountains in south and southwest.

Agricultural:
Colony West was founded as a bread basket colony for its previous owner, mangudai, becuase it provides much arable land, a whopping 45.7%. The main crops are corn and wheat but without a parent country devouring its resources it doesn't need that much food. Many of these crops can be replaced with Alfalfa, Cotton, Sorghum, Peanuts, a variety of vegetables, and possibly tobacco. Much promise for a beef based agriculture as well. The norther and southern lands are largely unpopulated. In the north east small peach orchards dot the landscape. Possibilities for other orhcards are high. In the east the fishing industry is taking off and could become a major employer.

Mining & Drilling:
In the south evidence points that there may be rich deposits of natural resources, unexploited as of yet becuase of the lack of industrialization. Potential minerals to be found include iron ore, nickel, zinc, copper, gold, lead, molybdenum, potash, diamonds, silver, tungsten, and coal. The iron, nickel, and copper bring the most prevalent. Small prospectors claims control some of the gold, silver, and diamond deposits. The coal is mostly to the southeast and is entirely unexploited. It shows promise for a large deposit.
Petroleum and natural gas may be drilled for in the west and northwest. Potential unknown.

Other:
Timber industry may be devloped in North, especially to clear way for orchards. Main focus on timber so far has been to simply make room for farmlands. Abundant wildlife may make possible fur trade.

Miscellaneous Information:
The official language is Mangudese (similar to Khalkha Mongol) but nearly all Colonials also speak English and it is the most common language to communicate with. Throughout much of Wiens French is used as the conversant language, but English is taught in all state funded schools.
