It was a bright sunny day. All along the outer wall of Orbath, soldiers paced up and down walking passed machine gun and mortar emplacements manned by their unit. No soldier had any idea anything out of the ordinary would happen. But it was about to.

OOC: Feel free to launch your attack/attacks.

OOC: sorry I did not see this, you should have put a link in the original thread or TG'ed; you also did a good job butchering my name -_- But now I found it so its fine :)

The sun was high in the sky, beating down on the eastern walls of the city, hopefully right into the eyes of any enemy defenders. The calm silence was suddenly, violently shattered by the unearthly scream of 9 artillery shells.
Six M201 Towed 200mm Howitzer and three 112mm Light Artillery Cannons had fired in sequence, aiming for the city's outer defenses.
The best ~100,000 of the 2nd Infantry Division "Black Widows" was on the ground, advancing in tactical wedge formations at a double time march.
The 112mm cannons repeated their shots rapidly, and before the first shells hit the ground, a second wave of three 112mm shells was on its way. It would be followed by another, and another, and another. The 200mm howitzers took a little longer to reload and fire, but they too had just started would would be a massive bombardment.
The mass of soldiers stopped suddenly about 4,000 meters from the city limits.
10,000 troops dropped down to their hands and knees and began digging in and setting up hasty fighting positions for the ~90,000 that would advance. If the shit hit the fan, they could fall back to those positions to facilitate a fighting withdrawal. A few man portable mortars were set up, and a few shoulder launched missiles were taken out of their protective carrying cases.
As the first shells hit, and almost like they were responding to a cue on stage, the entire mass of 90,000 troops began running at full speed toward the city, while maintaining a complex formation. Snipers and spotters dropped to their bellies and started crawling at about 2,000 meters away, and the first shots would be fired as soon as the main group was 1500 meters away. Every 5th soldier was supposed aim his AR-22A4 on a high trajectory and empty a full magazine. It was hoped this, along with the mortar and artillery strikes, would cause mass chaos, and it was possible the falling bullets could hit and injure the enemy.

OOC: I didn't realize I even got a reply to this and I forgot all about it.

IC:

The shells, although not hitting any specific target caused damage and confusion. They impacted, landing mostly on one or the other sides of the walls, throwing up dirt. Shells did hit the wall though, taking chunks from it. The wall however, was too thick and only took minimal damage.

The Orbathians were shocked. Nobody was expecting an attack. Military Officers quickly contacted Military H.Q. and were given the go ahead to return fire. Using the HALO system and by judging the artillery's trajectory, the Orbathians were able to locate the enemy artillery and mortars. Firestorm Missile launchers, which were actually hidden inside the wall folded out and fired 40 surface to surface missiles at the enemy artillery and mortars.

Troops that patrolled the wall were quickly informed of the attack and began taking up defensive positions, preparing to return fire.

"Redleg, Redleg, Take cover! I repeat Take cover!!!! Incoming counter battery fire" an infantry captain yelled into his radio. As he watched artillery cannon and rocket fire erupt from the walls. He lifted his rifle in his hand raised it and gave a thunderous order,"Forwarrrrd" still it was barely audible over the boom of the artillery. As the captain signaled his men to advance so too di the captains and majors in charge of all of the other companies and the lieutenants echoed their commanders' orders to their platoon sergeants and so on. Reminiscent of "The Wave" done at sporting events, the soldiers rose and advanced 50 meters at a time. The first few unguided shoulder fired rockets were launched at defensive positions along the walls and snipers began to take aim from what little cover was available. A few machine gunners started firing high trajectory bursts with tracers, more for psychological effect than anything else.

Meanwhile back the the hastily constructed fire base, the artillery crews had scattered. Most of the 112mm positions got hit, and all were disabled due to the large amounts of ammo that was around. Two of the 200mm got taken out right away and a third lost all of its ammo but was undamaged. The crews which suffered only a dozen minor shrapnel casualties (since they were able to scatter quickly) rushed back and limbered the remaining cannons moving to a slightly different position. The mortars which were far closer to the wall maintained fire support, however limited while the operational artillery cannons attempted to counter the counter fire.

As the enemy rushed forward, they would be met by bullets. Hell Raiser Heavy Machine guns, which were remote controlled, keeping soldiers safe, began firing. Using an infrared camera located on the guns, the soldiers firing could see even the well hidden troops. Mortars along the wall began firing, targeting the incoming troops. The rest of the soldiers fired their personal weapons at the incoming enemy. A few rockets impacted along the wall, one killing a soldier who was not behind cover. Snipers proved to be a hassle, bullets flying by Orbathian soldiers' heads. Snipers had managed to kill two so far and were making the troops uneasy. Artillery and mortars continued hitting the wall, but was doing only a bit of damage. More Firestorm Missile launchers let loose, 20 surface to surface missiles flying towards the enemy artillery positions.

Artillery impacting near the wall.

The battle had only been raging for around twenty minutes but already Military Officers were meeting at H.Q. They were discussing options, but couldn't really do anything until the President arrived. They decided to deploy 2 Black Panther helicopters from the nearest air base to provide recon. They also put all military bases in Orbath on high alert, they would begin preparing to deploy.

As surprisingly accurate defensive fire began screaming in from the wall and producing dozens of casualties, both the mortar crews and light infantrymen became tossing smoke grenades all around, behind and in front of themselves. The thick black smoke would screen their advance and the equally thick purple smoke would let any remaining artillery crews know where friendlies were.

"Sir they are still hitting our mortar positions through the smoke screen." A nervous young lieutenant informed his superior.
"Shit! They must be using thermal imaging equipment... Keep popping smoke, but launch flares too." The combat hardened Major ordered.
The remaining mortars launched a few starburst rounds and the infantry dropped magnesium flares on the ground. The white hot flares would burn themselves through the dirt and eventually smolder out soon, but they would provide at least a brief amount of concealment as the advance pushed on.
Grenadiers were also launching heat generating white phosphorous grenades and heating up the battlefield. hopefully all of the heat interference would let them get close enough to make a dent in the defenses.

The artillery crews had relocated and left smoke grenades at their previous position. They knew they would get only one, perhaps two more volleys off before the missile artillery zeroed in on them and so they worked quickly, deploying loading aiming and firing as fast as possible.

As the infantry popped off their smoke grenades and flares, it became almost impossible for the gunners to see anything through the infrared camera. They hit a switch and the camera went back to normal video mode. It would be harder to see the enemy, but with all the heat interference they couldn't see anything through the thermal view anyway. The enemy artillery was slightly more accurate this time. A few shells impacted along the wall, killing five soldiers and destroying a Firestorm launcher. Using the HALO system and by judging the artillery shells trajectory, the Firestorm turrets were able to respond. 3 of them were in the process of being reloaded, but the artillery was in range of two other turrets. The turrets let loose 20 surface to surface missiles. The infantry soldiers continued to try to halt the advance, but were having trouble due to the cloud of smoke that was appearing. The Panther helicopters flew quickly, they would arrive at the battle in roughly 20 minutes.

In the City

6th Air Group was put on high alert and some aircraft fueled, if the President allowed, the could make a strike. The President was on his way and would arrive soon.

The missile impacted mere inches away from the artillery cannons. One of the crews was already in the process of limbering and was caught by the incoming fire. Their gun was destroyed and whole crew was killed in an instant.
The other three cannon crews were lucky. They were still going through a loading and firing cycle, and most of them were able to run for cover, and although their guns were destroyed or disabled they would survive to continue the fight.

A combat hardened artillery commander hatched a plan quickly after realizing there was no artillery support left. He quickly organized 2 of his best crews and made a mad dash for one of the abandoned 112mm cannons. The one that had been damaged the least had lost all of its ammunition to secondary explosions. But nearby, next to one of the 112mms that were completely destroyed, a few rounds of ammo lay. These pre-loaded cartridges didn't need separate powder charges, and relied solely upon trajectory to control their range. The crews quickly loaded a round into the last remaining cannon and fired. Though both its wheels had been destroyed its elevating equipment was in tact and it was capable of aiming and firing. Six or seven shells.. that's all they would be able to get off before the cannon shook itself apart. It didn't matter, they only had 5 left.

The infantry would use this last volley to cover the final advance to the wall.
A corporal hugged the dirt and waited. Every minute that passed seemed like a month. The bullets were whizzing around and hitting the dirt and sometimes his comrades. He held fast and waited for the smoke that would signal next and final advance.

The artillery shells smashed into the ground and wall, kicking up dirt and sending chunks of cement flying. It had hit an already damaged portion of the wall, making the crater even bigger. Thankfully, due to the fact that the wall was damaged and couldn't be stood on, nobody was killed. Two soldiers were injured by flying concrete, one clinging to life. The infantry continued what they had been doing. A Major jumped on the radio to request a medi-vac but was told to call back, the President had arrived and him and the top Military brass were discussing options. In the mean time, The Black Panther helicopters came in from the east. They were built for stealth and made almost no noise. The were low, using the trees for cover. They flew to the former location of the artillery, attempting to get a damage report and see what was left.

OOC: If you don't object, and you have every right to considering its changing the rules in the middle of the game. I would like to change the following;

Up the level of troops to 300,000 for us both.

Allow the use of limited artillery for both, I'll allow you to bring in more.

Allow limited air support for us both.

Allow limited tanks for us both.

The AH-3 Vipers were just arriving on scene as the enemy helicopters approached the blown out fire base. Unfourtuanly the AH-3 Viper, which were being towed by trailers, were delayed several minutes getting into the air, and they were now too late to save the artillery. Four AH-3 Vipers in camouflage paint and armed to the teeth, descended from cursing altitude, about 1500 feet for a viper, and hugged the tree line. Looking through his own FLIR(forward looking infrared) scope, the lead pilot, although initially disoriented by the flares and heat of the battle off tin the distance, was able to pick out two hot objects heading straight for them. "Contact 12 o'clock, break break break." The pilot ordered on the secure radio. Without any other verbal communication, the Vipers broke into a series of impressive 120 mph maneuvers. It was impressive because the AH-3 Viper, at only 14.3 feet long and 10 feet high, was one of the smallest combat helicopters ever built. The other pilots trained their FLIR sets on the incoming enemy helicopters, and ascended about 100 feet. The lead two helicopters locked on and each let loose an AIM[SA]-29 missile. They held the remaining six anti-aircraft missiles in reserve and waited for impact. The pilots trained their 25mm guns ahead of them and waited to get in range.

The forces on the ground were getting closer.

An alarm in both helicopters rang out, signaling the approach of an incoming missile. The AMMiD system took over, and as the missiles came screaming in, the system took control of the helicopters, getting one of the way. One helicopter didn't make it out of the way in time, the air to air missile crashing into and causing it to explode into a fiery wreck. The second helicopter had banked left, and now quickly climbed into the air. It let loose with 2 air to air missiles and fired a short burst of 30mm gun fire. The helicopter then dived low, heading for the trees.

The Wall

The troops defending the wall were fighting hard. Although they were vastly outnumbered, they had the advantages of height and cover, which the enemy did not have. They had so far managed to hold of the enemy, but do to the amount of soldiers they continued to advance, passed fallen comrades. They were soon in for some luck though.

Military Command Center

''We must respond quickly, we do not know the capacity of these foreign devils.''

The top military brass and the President sat around an oak table, discussing how to respond to the threat. Although they disagreed on how to respond, they all knew it must be through military power. Firstly, they decided to deploy the 18th Air Calvary Battalion. The Battalion was already on high alert, the helicopters were already on the airfield. It would take roughly a half hour for the 18th AIRCAV to arrive at the battle. Secondly, the 4th Armored Infantry Brigade and 5th Armored Infantry Brigade and the 6th Armored Infantry Brigades would be deployed to the Wall, although it would take them about 4 hours to reach the battle. The 23rd and 24th Regular Infantry Regiments and Delta and Tango Combat Engineer companies would be deployed, by rail, to the outskirts of the city. They will set up firing positions, tanks traps, machine gun nests, mortars, roadblocks, booby traps and fences. They will then take up positions and defend the city. Charlie and Zulu Combat Engineer companies will set up random roadblocks and machine gun nests behind them. Remaining units will be deployed to various locations around the city to allow them to respond quickly to a threat.
