Taimonyev Graveyard, War dead from the last Xharn War

Technopolis Times,
Johanius Ikenzvar

Earlier Today the Suprainister ordered the Third Fleet under the command of Srihacul Kenzal to deploy near the Continent of Irathia in a show of force against the remnants of the Xharnian people who have been once again posturing aggressively towards us, much to the mirth of most analysts who were quick to point out the Xharnian's being oblivious to the still standing state of war between us, indeed Leading Analyst from the Xikar based Political Think-Tank Hymesdas one Ivrentulate Mauricius Elvnar disclosed to us “The Xharnian's are still trying to reconcile themselves as a third rate power, after the military graciously allowed them to run for the hills with their tails in between their legs, as they say, their Government is trying to talk up their own weak position, however because of this they are also forcing a reaction from our own government, if no response is given it casts us in a poor light, as if too scared to respond, however attacking outright is implausible due to the current geopolitical climate with an increasingly hostile climate developing, the current reaction on behalf of the government is actually more balanced than meets the eye, as a patrol through problem areas is quite prudent, in addition to demonstrating to the Xharnian's that their bluster has actually backfired it also allows the Military to possibly track down more Zeonic Assets,”

Officials from the Tower of Destiny have went on record as saying that this is a routine deployment of forces in preparation for a series of simulated exercises, however when pressed officials would say no more. This isn’t the first such deployment of forces as of late, earlier in the year flotillas were deployed to Kroanado, Blackhelm, British Londinium in shows of force either in support of allies, or in a political statement by the Government, whatever the reason the general consensus on the street that the Government is right to do this, some even going so far as this may correct what is viewed by some as the over-lenience of Srihacul Kavik in his prosecution of the last battles of the war, in allowing the Xharn populace to evacuate en masse instead of occupying outright, others however disagreed with this point of view citing political pressures by allies in Xirnium and the Infinite Empire.

Shortly before print we had the opportunity to discuss the possible implications of renewing the war with Xharn with noted Civilian Military Analyst Dora Vukraznian, “The first thing we must consider are as ever the Political implications, Xharn is now a member of the Infinite Empire, one of our closest allies, however this must be offset by the fact that a peace treaty was never signed and thus a de facto state of war exists between our two national entities, a war brought about as a direct consequence of Xharn's hostile actions against our ally Xirnium who themselves are a member of the Infinite Empire, therefore the Yallakians would be forced to carefully evaluate any stance they took bearing in mind they themselves saw combat with the Xharnian's scant years earlier, especially in light of a steady string of antagonising rhetoric from the Xharn government about ourselves and various aspects of the state.” When we enquired from her as to what her opinion was on our readiness to resume this conflict, even if it were to become a potential long term commitment she responded, “Personally I believe we are more than ready, I’ve seen production reports of Military equipment, and some of the newer designs, nothing I can mention of course, but with all the changes over the past few years I’d say our military is far more capable than it was last time, and indeed the people have shown the resolve for long drawn out conflicts, I mean look at Zeon and Valjsguard, we were on the brink for a while and yet support never faltered, so I believe this time although different circumstances the home front will remain the same,”

"Slow to half speed, and inform all ships to do likewise, increase combat patrols, Helm bring us about for a pass by the Xharnian coast line, be sure to keep us out of their waters,” Srihacul Kenzal glanced out of the wide view ports spread around the bridge, a slight smile gracing his clean shaven face, it had been too long since he’d seen a potential combat assignment, for the past few years he’d been lecturing at a variety of military schools over the importance of patience and perseverance in addition to a few other things it had been a welcome break but he was glad to be back at the bridge of a ship, to sail the seven seas in the name of the state, a glorious profession, he’d participated in the ultimate genesis point of this war, he remembered it well the confusion of the Xharn attack at the Iathern Sea, between them and their Kukonian allies a chunk of the Novan Armed Forces most experienced pilots had met their fates, however though losses had been replaced and worthwhile lessons learned, and the more recent designs seemed to have heeded these lessons, of course only time would tell.

His smile deepened at the thought, life was a teacher and a pupil, and much more, and he intended to teach and learn many a lesson more, turning his lance away from the distant lands and back to the business at hand he rose from his command station and padded forward to the edge of the platform to gaze over his bridge, his advisor, Tenvik, who had served with him since Valjsguard looked up from the console at which he had been working, for a moment before going back to work, albeit visibly more aware of his commanders actions. Reece stood his arms clasped behind his back his head held high ever looking like the perfect admiral as he looked upon his bridge crew thoughtfully, weighting each option carefully.

“Tenvik, I want all the staff assembled in my ready room in 15 minutes, and pull up a report on the Xharnian's current state of affairs, and send out a few Tokon's to scout out the area, don’t use standard formations, instead I want them to fly at maximum efficient altitude, and they are to self destruct at first possible sign of hostility,” Reece purred, not looking away from his casual inspection of the activities going on below, his soft words carrying through the confidant air that filled the chamber, “and inform Jaivar to hold station at Point Kelzap,” this last, an almost after thought was quieter than the rest, almost lost over the thrush of the ventilation, yet due noted by the industrious Aide, who immediately began informing the necessary personnel over their personal frequencies as to their presence being required.

The Corridors of this great vessel were at a heightened state of use as of late, the recent deployment of the fleet had of course necessitated greater activity on behalf of the crew who now went about their duties with an even great sense of meticulous care and detail than before, it was the hallmark of the Novans, their care to the tiniest of details, in addition to many other things, many misunderstood them as xenophobic, though they merely enjoyed their privacy, they could get on quite well with foreigners, the alliance with nations such as TheSilverSky, Whyatica and Clandonia Prime amongst others were testament to this, you merely needed to know how to handle them, and the Novans were more than accommodating, unfortunately for the Xharnian's, who hadn’t the foggiest on how to deal with their nemesis, otherwise they would not have been so brash in their bravado and rhetoric, it was a source of much humour to the crew, how the Xharnian's didn’t learn, of course they all knew that another lesson for this foolish foe was potentially on the Horizon.

The Great doors of the vessels hangar bays opened wide disgorging thousand of Tokon’s, which soared to the skies at blistering speeds singing a muted funeral dirge, as they swiftly streaked over the vessels of the fleet giggling slightly and angling themselves yet higher and higher as they headed for Xharn, it would be obvious to anybody when they eventually realised the small signature of the Tokon's spread over a very large distance that this couldn’t be an attack, so dispersed were the Tokon's, that a co-ordinated assault could not be done with the formation if it could be called that when there were several miles at least between each Tokon as they flew safely beyond the reach of any defence evaluating the countryside city and urban sprawl alike, of course as everything there was more than met the eye, and potential subterranean sites were also noted, encrypted then transmitted back in undetectable transmissions back to the approaching fleet.

Hey Paco,” called a voice through the cavernous starboard hangar bay, the air was alive with the sounds of activity Skuttlers clicked their way up and down the walls inspecting the weapons of war stowed in their launch racks, clicking away in machine code and being responded to in kind by Tokon's and Vrazen's while Mechnicians checked readouts from the Skuttlers, eased their way into the inner workings of Voloko’s and in general went about ensuring everything was ready for combat in seconds, a slight thrush sound emanated from the entrance of the bay as Tokon’s swept out and a Squadron of Voloko returned from patrol “Hey Paco up here” came the voice again this time less muffled

Paco glanced up seeing a pair of legs hanging out of the access panel of a Kashizrion, concealing a snort of laughter he jumps over the railing of the maintenance scaffold elevator taping the up button with the tip of his boot before he lands “Well if it isn’t Taun, you always did like the shiny new toys and here’s you head first into yet another one, forget where the Skaarom's were?” Paco called up jauntily as the platform rose swiftly as he casually held on with a hand leaning back to get a better view of the Kashizrion Taun was working on, shuddering slightly at the sight of the lethal machine, he’d heard tales of those things in action, Armageddon in a can he’d heard some say, it was a common conception that to pilot one of the things was a mark of great skill, on an almost supernatural level.

“what were you saying about shiny new toys eh Paco?” came the sly tease of Taun as he finished extricating himself delicately from the kashizrion’s Innards, delicately levering down the hatch rubbing it over with a pad firmly, “I tell you now the insides of these things are like nothing I’ve ever seen before, we only received the Primers on them a few weeks ago, good thing these only arrived yesterday, enough to outfit a fair few squadrons,” pausing as he reached over to place his tools back into the Tool Stak next to him.

“Hmm, maybe the rumours are true after all, what’re the pilots like? I haven’t seen any new faces just some of the Enforcers back from rotation, but they have their own units to pilot,” deep in thought Paco gazed over the machine again longingly before knocking Taun with a loosely clenched fist teasingly, “Come on you old joker spill it,” chuckling a little at his old friend.

“Ok, Ok, Alright already,” shoving Paco back a little, a smirk playing across his face, “there were no pilots, apparently it’s to outfit some of our existing squadrons, the only pilots we got are to replace the pilots that are being assigned these beauties, it’ll be interesting to see how they take to them, from what I can see they push a Pilot to the limits of his perception and then beyond it,” pausing a moment to pull Paco close, “Keep this under your hat but some of the stuff in here wasn’t developed by Novacom Manufacturing, some of the stuff in here must have come from the Black Skull Enforcers, the processors especially, I ran some diagnostics on them and I had to get up into the cockpit to check that they were interfacing correctly and it was mind-blowing, I could suddenly see all around me, I could feel what was happening in the immediate area, heck I could feel what was happening miles away, those people, the Xharnian's, their up to something, I can feel it, that entire land it’s filled with malice, Normal Tech doesn’t do this, however the stuff inside these things do, I don’t know how, and I’m not gonna pry either, with a fair few of the components it’s replace only, we have a ton of spare parts down in storage and everything has to be signed off with at least another person present, it’s creepy, but then again whatever it is that makes these things tick, it’d be bad if it fell into enemy hands, That’s not all either,” Taun finished cryptically, the loose High collar of his uniform flapped around as he moved past Paco and set about unplugging his analysis board from the terminals in a small alcove next to where he had been working earlier.

“You mean there’s more, what are you driving at, your already making them seem more supernatural than the rumours had pegged them at but your saying that there’s another face to this all, come on Taun tell me,” Anticipation worked through Paco’s mind, he loved catching up on the latest things, rumours were a part of his life, it was better to know the rumours than be the rumours, and in some cases that could be a crippling disability, where people thought your name and your family had gotten you there and not you yourself despite the assurances, turning round to face Taun he shook his head slightly, as if to clear all these wild thoughts swirling within, “Come on Taun, what else is there,”

“Well, the Kashizrion isn’t the only one with this hardware, the Vrazen has some if it as well, but what doesn’t make sense is the Vrazen is automated, me and a few of the other Mechnicians put our heads together and what we think,” pausing for a moment to position himself against the rail of the platform next to Paco with a slight furtive glance around the area before continuing, “These processors, and their entire suite can enhance a mind, to the level of a Black Skull Enforcer, and then some,”

“But Vrazen's are automated, so how could they have a mind to be enhanced,” Paco returned somewhat uneasily, as he cast a glance over to the racks centred on the inner wall filled to bursting with the crimson dragons.

“I didn’t say the mind’s whose perceptions reactions and capabilities that were enhanced was only Organic, remember AI’s have minds as well….” He finished abruptly leaving the implications for Paco to drink in, the thought of anything capable of enhancing human perception was one thing, but able to enhance an artificial perception, that was a completely new concept to grasp altogether.

“Hey Isazulvan, you checking out the new hardware?” came the call from down below, the pair glanced down abruptly, gathered around the depression where the elevator had been was a bunch of pilots was standing around waiting, “Oh sort Taun, I forgot, I’m taking out the squadron on an exercise, we’ll have to finish catching up later, I’m on Deck 5 at the moment, till next time,” Clapping Taun on the shoulder with a wink and a smile he swang over the rail onto the elevator again tapping the button with the tip of his boot staring down to the hangar bay floor where his fellow pilots awaited.

Alright then we’re only waiting on Arkesian Llotorious. Ah Toreth, please come in and be seated, Well then, You will have all speculated on the purpose of this meeting,” Reaching forward Reece depressed a small button on the pad in front of him dimming the room, “The Image before you should confirm things, this is primarily an intimidation directive, primarily we will force the Xharnian’s to change their mind, and potentially sign a peace treaty, worst case scenario,” pausing for added effect, the holographic image of the new enemy homeland shimmering above the surface of the table the air taut with anticipation “Resumption of Hostilities, although it is questionable whether hostilities ever truly ended, their rhetoric certainly doesn’t disprove that, when you go away from here, I want you submitting all the possible ideas for what will in essence be a long term occupation, I want analyses on every aspect of their defences and their civilian front, I also want Intel on what lessons they have learned from previous engagements with us, I don’t want for our forces to be going in blind against enemy counter measures.”

“Sir, Psycho-analysis indicates that the current leadership will shoot first and if at all ask questions later, and part of their reasoning behind signing treaty with the Yallakian’s was to actually deter us from renewing the conflict,” purred Dalsulse Falkonois, a Black Skull Enforcer who’s area of expertise had originally been anti-terrorism but had as of late turned his analysis skills to intelligence, and the unique nature of the current situation, during the last war a Psychic Invasion had been launched which had conquered the northern provinces of the former Xharn homeland, had had other effects, especially due to things that had been tested back then, it gave a unique intelligence environment, that would be unlikely to ever rear it’s head again, the best thing about it was, the only way for such an asset to be deadened would be a large purge of the entire Xharn military and political apparatus to the point where it would be lobotomised to a point fatal during wartime, and now that the Novans were closer than ever effectiveness would be double that when the nearest Novan asset capable of receiving was several continents away.

“Hmm, Interesting I’ll bear that in mind, and on that note I want a report on current capacities for another Psychic Invasion,” Rubbing his chin slightly as he peered around at the assembled personnel, “Now, does anybody else have anything else to add to your reports?” his voice subtle and understated as he idly cast a glance around the assemblage, pausing a moment laying his head upon steepled fingers smiling gently idly gazing around those dreamy blue eyes of his slightly unnerving some of his officers, pausing in his brief look around and when it became apparent that there was nothing to be added he rose regally placing both hands astride the console in front of him, “Meeting Adjourned,” stepping back smoothly and slid out of the room without a further word.
