Flags, Armorial Bearings and Seals

The Aliquancian flag has changed on three occasions, the first flag was that of the ship 'Rapier' captained by the female pirate Godiva, the Rapier was the first to begin the colonisation of the island. After the British gained sovereignty in 1630 the flag was changed to incorporate the English Rose and stayed that way until 2007 when the map was changed back to the now named 'Rapier Standard' with the addition of the text Aliquantus in Aliquancian handwrighting.

The Rapier Standard

As the navy is the militarys most senior service and the only to belong directly to the Aliquancian Royal Family since the island was first colonised; it uses the Rapier Standard instead of an ensign with the addition of an embelum of the Aliquancian crown upon an anchor. This flag is known as the 'Naval Rapier'.

The Grand Seal of Aliquantus is correctly used as the state seal. It is designed as a crowned star containig the letter A, every female in the royal family is named starting or ending with the letter A. The A is also significant because it represents Aliquantus. The reason for the naming of each female with a name starting or ending with the letter A dates back to Queen Godiva, her children, Corala and Amiee, were named with Aliquantus in mind as a sort of seal of approval for leading the country. The boarder around the emblem is a triangle with the three corners containing a Q (Left) and a R (Right), together they note that the ruler is the Queen Regnant. At the top the number nine in roman numerals notes that Queen Acheron is the ninth head of state.

The Lesser Seal of Aliquantus is a smaller version of the Grand Seal, it is used internaly on money notes, government buildings, ect. The Lesser seal differs as it contains the word "Aliquantus" crowned and is less formal than the Grand Seal.

The recent change in of the flag has also sparked the need for a set of Armorial Bearings that express more nationalism. Historians are currently re-creating the Coat of Arms given to Godiva by the British and a new seal is to be made.

Geography

Topography
Mainland Aliquantus consists of lowland terrain, with some mountainous terrain in the south. Lower ranges include limestone hills and the chalk downs of the Southern Chalk Formation. The main rivers and estuaries are the Sarace Running, the Satara River and the Cylon River. The largest urban area is Godiva. Aliquantus's highest mountain is Tile Down, which is to the south-east at 978m (3,208 ft). The other islands geography is varied, with lowlands in the centre and highlands surrounding, including Cripii Pike, the highest mountain in the Aliquancian Isles at 1,344m (4,406 ft). There are many long and deep sea arms, firths, and lochs.

Aliquantus lies in the northern waters of Mediterranica, it is not attached to the western mainland and shares no land borders. The closest nation to Aliquantus is Zambistan.

Climate
An upland tropical climate prevails on the windward side of the mountains, whereas a semiarid climate predominates on the leeward side. Warm trade winds from the east and northeast bring rainfall throughout the year. The rainfall is heaviest around September and October, with peaks in those two months. The average rainfall is 196 centimeters per year. Rainfall is much greater in the mountain areas facing the south and east, however. Where the higher elevations of the Schippap Mountains and the Bubble Mountains catch the rain from the moisture-laden winds, rainfall exceeds 508 centimeters per year. Since the southeastern half of the island lies in the rain shadow of the mountains, it has a semiarid climate and receives fewer than 762 millimeters of rainfall annually.

Temperatures are fairly constant throughout the year, averaging 25°C to 30°C in the lowlands and 15°C to 22°C at higher elevations. Temperatures may dip to below 10°C at the peaks of the Lubble Mountains. The island receives, in addition to the northeast trade winds, refreshing onshore breezes during the day and cooling offshore breezes at night. These are known in Aliquantus as "Godiva's Breeze" and the "Musket Breeze", respectively.

History

Ancient Odantis History

Ancient Odantis refers to the first stage in the history of civilisation on the islands now known as Aliquantus. The era was the period during which the ancient Odantis state developed and the age saw significant advancements in political theory and the foundation of democracy, philosophy, architecture and ancient cities as well as the creation of the written language Adujant. There are no fixed or universally agreed upon dates for the beginning of the Ancient Odantis period. In common usage it refers to all Odantian history before the decline, but historians use the term more precisely. Some writers include the periods of the Adujant-speaking Atlanii civilization that collapsed about 1150 BC, though most would argue that the influential Minoan was so different from later Greek cultures that it should be classed separately. Ancient Odantis History is split into three parts, the First Age 1100–800BC, the Greater Age 800–490BC and the Decline 323-146 BC.

Odantian Decline

Odantian Decline refers to the second stage in the history of civilisation on the islands now known as Aliquantus. The era was the period of great natural disasters and eventualy a situation where civil unrest, disease and famine would destroy the civilisation. The era of decline lasted from 323BC when two volcano eruptions and several earthquakes destroyed the infrastructure of the civilisation and in 146BC ended with a great famine due to flooding and the spread of disease due to the amount of dead and unhealthy conditions.

Godiva's Discovery

Godiva's Discovery refers to the first stage of modern history of civilisation on the islands now known as Aliquantus. The age started in 1627 when the Mainland Island was then discovered by Godiva, who was a British female privateer and captain of the ship 'Rapier'. Godiva originally was raised in Epping Forest, Essex, United Kingdom and after learning seamanship wile pretending to be a boy officer aboard her uncles ship, she gained control of her fathers ship and became a privateer. After navigating British Londinium she discovered a previously uncharted Island and shortly after beaching, she built a small settlement and her crew named it Godiva, after her. 'Andromeda', a ship captured by Godiva and her crew then charted the island and sold the charts to British traders as requested by Godiva. After selling the location of the Island to British traders, ship crews began using the island as shelter and to replenish meat and water stores wile trading in the process. In 1628 French and Spanish settlers arrived to the north of the island after initially planning to settle elsewhere. The French and Spanish settlers were attacked wile colonising the islands by the Royal Navy, during the battle the French retreated and the Spanish where forced from the island. The British where successful and captured the northern settlements on the island, expelling the French and Spanish civilians. The British renamed the settlement Essex and also named the island Aliquantus. The French then returned to take the fort but retreated after resistance by the British who had expanded on the fortifications. A year after the British had landed, the governor from Essex began talks with Godiva over the sovereignty of her now quite large settlement and after negotiations had finnished, the British gained sovereignty of the whole island with Godiva as the Governor. In 1630, the Spanish again returned to take the island but failed after heavy losses, this enraged the Spanish nobles who returned with a far larger force backed by the French. Facing three thousand Spanish and French soldiers was the British garrison of only two hunderd men. As the attcking forces ammassed outside Essex, Godiva rode along the French and Spannish battle line naked in order to pospone the attack until the next day at the request of the Spanish general. This was so the British ship HMS Saracen could unload weapons and ammunition for the civilians to fight the attackers with. The battle ended with a decisive victory for the defenders and for its actions, the town that was then the garrison for British troops was named after HMS Saracen. On the 21st July 1640, the British left and handed sovereignty of the islands back to Godiva, the people of Aliquantus named her as the Queen and Aliquantus was formed as a monarchy. In 1645 Godiva was assassinated by a foreign agent, her daughter Andromeda became queen at the age of seventeen. Due to her death most of the citizens began to revolt and in an attempt to bring harmony and control over the island, the Queen Eva imported roughly 3,000 prostitutes from nabouring islands, hoping to regularize the unruly male citizen's lives. In 1675, the governors office was demolished and the first Royal Palace was built. After the import of prostitutes the female population had oversteped the male population considerably, fornication was wildly out of control and added to the growth of the island. Aliquantus's ports became major trade centres for the rest of the century and irrigation, farming, metalsmithing and trading became a major part of the economy, up until the industrial revolution, that began in Britain and spread throughout the world.

Modern Era

During the 20th century Aliquantus remained isolated until recently where Queen Acheron forwarded intergration into the international community and promoted free and open trade as the begining of making Aliquantus a capitalist nation.

In July of 2007 Aliquantus was thrown into civil war by anti-royalist socialist reformers who used a large part of the army to take the capital and imprisoned the Queen. Using the properganda that the Queen abandoned her people, the socialists quickly set up a new government and rule Aliquantus.
