Hi everyone! Wow, what a community...

I'm a brand new member and totally green. I'm starting this thread to discuss the backgrounds, makings, and other details about the states we all have made. I'm not really sure if I'm in the right forum, so I'm expecting my post to get moved on me.

This is for indulging in personal RP. It isn't here to influence the UN or politics: it's simply here because Nationstates doesn't let you post a lot of information about your own state. There's crucial details and ideas you often want to share, things that better reflect your view on your state, so others can understand why and how you shape your peoples' future.

Here's the idea behind my own Nationstate. Enjoy!

The Borderlands of Autumnbear exist in The Dark Forests of Blackwood. Blackwood is a beautiful land bordered by majestic mountains and raging rivers. Primieval forests fill this valley region, and is home to a large variety of wildlife.

The region of Blackwood is a forgotten state. Located in the middle of great stretches of mountains, it is accessable by only a few major routes through mountain passes that often are closed due to rockslides and bad weather. The region is vast, and cities are scattered throughout the many valley regions pocketed between distant parts of the mountain ranges. Single lane highways and a rail-line snake and twist through thick forest, over raging rivers, and even through mountain tunnels at times.

Blackwood is currently infested with flesh-eating zombies. The true source of these terrors is unknown, but is linked to the old society that has since collapsed in the invasion. Rumors that a Bio-Engineering Lab exist, and rumors that it may have something to do with the undead plague abound, but so far it has not been proven to exist. The mystery continues.

Today, Blackwood has been recovered to a degree, and remains as a struggling state cut-off from the outlying regions around it. The founder, Autumnbear, was a survivor from the first zombie invasion. He was once cut off from society for years, and was forced to live among the undead as a scavenger and cannibal himself in order to survive. He is a wise but vicious man, known for a fair judgement and savage temper. It's even rumored that he ate the undead flesh of zombies to survive when he lived as a scavenger those many years ago. These rumors remain unproven.

The Borderlands of Autumnbear is a strip of recovered cities and settlements in The Dark Forests of Blackwood. Each territory is defended by a full time military service, where service is compulsory. Crime is moderate, existing only because the military service is far too busy defending the territories from zombies. Each citiy government runs their city independantly, so corruption exists and is unavoidable. So long that each city follows Autumnbears' dictatorship and doesn't fail it's citizens needs, then they are allowed to run themselves however the people wish to be run.

The region isn't suited for farming, so it relies heavily on the harvesting of lumber, cattle, fish, and it's many mines. Recently a bottled water company, tourism enterprises, and book publishing services have emerged, giving this recovering state a new identity as a producer instead of a pure consumer.

Trade does not follow a standard unit of currency. Dollars are meaningless when faced with a very real enemy every day. Instead, trade is through services and products. If any recognized form of trade exists, it's the trade of ammunition for services and goods. The most commonly traded good recognized as currency is the Hollowpoint Bullet. These special rounds are prouduced in Blackwood in one of three manufacturing plants that issues the rounds to the government for distribution into the economy. Citizens must then work for goods or munitions, depending on the tasks. Further trade is directed by the people, through their own private markets and trade centers.

The Borderlands of Autumnbear seek to restore order to their state by eradicating the ever-present hordes of flesh-eating zombies. However, due to the vast space of the state and the continuous loss of life feeding the ranks of the undead, the situation does not appear to be fixable. Instead, survivors are rebuilding their society in this state, living next door to a constant danger and ever-present enemy. There are far too many places for zombies to hide, especially in the dark forests in the mountains. The isolation of Blackwood, thanks to the mountains, prevents the undead hordes from spreading into out-lying regions.

Tourists are advised to travel in packs for their own protection. Although the major cities are mostly zombie-free, the risk that a rogue zombie pack is very real, and lone travelers are sometimes killed and eaten. It's advisable to carry a sidearm when traveling, and bribing the military to allow access to restricted safe-zones is a common necessity.

This society favors people who can bribe or out-buy others. Poor citizens are often down-trodden, and are usually unable to pay for protection from zombie attacks. They usually live in undefended parts of the city, perhaps having access to a working firearm and ammo. Then again, perhaps not.

The compulsory military service has a few benefits to the lower classes. It offers skills and protection, in addition to a new social status and power. Rich citizens frown upon this mandatory service period, but obey the state laws at the risk of being shot of worse: exiled into the wilds.

Autumnbear preaches 'survival of the fittest', and this statement has become our state motto. There is no room in our society for slackers, except perhaps as decoys.

As ammunition and weapons are scarce, many are forced to scavenge the unclaimed parts of the city for supplies. The retrieval of comfort products or rare consumables leads to an underground market in Blackwood. Weapons and munitions can be traded for larger (and safer) lodgings, better food, or even licences to leave the state permanantly. Every household has had a family member scavenge at least once in his lifetime. The rest work, performing services to either restore the city, manufacture supplies, harvest trade goods for other states, or develop private services for entertainment or consumer needs.

There is a moderate rate of crime, as some citizens are too lazy or weak to scavenge or work themselves. They prey upon their neighbours without remorse. These people are considered worthless like the zombies, and are to be shot on sight.

Tourists are advised to learn each cities individual laws before visiting. While most tourists are given a limited immunity to city law, they are bound by the military services rules and regulations. Breaching these rules results in being detained for a length of time, or even killed.

Hopefully this pamphlet has helped you understand how our society works. Enjoy the sights, have some fun shooting zombies in the tourist zone, and hope that the mud and rockslides in the mountain passes don't keep you trapped in our state forever.

[All OOC]: I was a bit stumped about where to move this, too, Autumnbear. It reads like the regional ads of Gameplay, but it's so RPd I figured it belongs in an RP forum. So here it is in International Incidents, which is where people deal with things affecting their nation and the way it fits into the international community.

A place where you can read about other nations, and display details of your own, is NS Wiki (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page). (You'll see when you get there that it's not an "official" NS site, like these forums, but it's fun.)

If you want a theme to introduce your nation, many people use the idea of opening diplomatic relations, hosting a party at your capital, arranging details of where embassies will be housed, and so on. Others inaugurate leaders, have royal birthday parties or marriages -- or you could jump straight into a zombie attack and have someone manage a call for international assistance. 'Sup to you. Have fun.[/OOC]
