Overview

Executive - The World Empire of Futuris houses a unique combination of a monarchy and a republic. Representatives campaign for the position, and are elected by the people as a kind of monarch. Their power, although not absolute, is considerably more than most other executive positions held in democracies around the world. At any time, if the monarch does something outrageous, the people can opt for the removal of such a monarch by an 85% vote. The monarch has control of the armed forces, and many laws and legislature.

Legislative - Although the monarch possesses much power to his/her cause, the legislative branch is a means of balancing that. There are 25 Delegates from around the country that also vote on laws and bills proposed by the monarch. The Delegation, as it is called, is also in control of taxes.

Judicial - And finally, in order to act as the Supreme Court of the WEF, 5 men or women pose on the Supreme Court of the World Empire of Futuris, selected by the monarch. They act as the hightest court of law in the land, and make sure that what the monarch and Delegation do is acceptable.

Important People

Current Monarch: John Mandrake

Delegatory Speaker: Robert Duvall

History

After the Futurians had migrated from the mainland Europe to the isles, they quickly took control and settled both of them. Their country was a small one, and they were effectively cut off from the rest of Europe. Although trade was high, Futuris had to center on navy, seeing as how they were living on an island. In 1456, as Corbournne had conquered a small piece of land off the peninsula of Europe, Futuris saw this as a threat. After all, if nothing was done, soon most of western continental Europe would belong to them. Futuris seized the opportunity and invaded the rest of the peninsula and in under a year, had taken it. More problems arose several years later, when the Straits of Gibraltar, which were supposedly controlled by Futuris, failed as a means to collect tax money, when ships simply passed by the other shores. Futuris eventually assembled a huge navy, and in 1633, invaded the other shores of the Strait, and in a three-year campaign, took much of Northwestern Africa. By doing this, they had effectively taken control of the Western Mediterranean Sea.

Climate

Over the past few centuries, the Futurians began to notice slight shifts in the climate. The gradual warming of the Earth, they understood, that was a cycle of Ice Ages. But the Earth was beginning to change. Not just warm up, but change. And, like the Futurians' predictions centuries ago, a change for the worse.

It all started in 1678, several years after the invasion of Africa, when Futuris's top "Earth" scientists began to notice several species of insects dying out. After pursuing the deaths, they found out that tremors in the Earth's crust had unearthed entire pieces of land deep in the low-lying evergreen mountains where the insects had lived. The place where it happened was unrecognizable - a roiling mass of upturned trees, roots, earth, and plants, with steam coming out occasionally, and a low-lying mist over it all. Obviously, the actual unearthment would kill quite a lot of insects - and even a few humans in the area. But since it was a fairly remote part of the mountains, no word of the tremors reached anyone else - like a silent killer, eliminating witnesses before continuing. And yet, many insects would survive, enough to continue the race. This is what stupified the scientists - why were they now extinct? After several weeks of more probing, they finally got their answer.

It was a clear, spring day and a party of hunters was relaxing in the mountains. They had gotten permission from the soldiers - the entire area had become a military complex to ensure no one entered - and they studied the unearthly landscape before them with some amusement. They had found nothing the whole day, going around the main area of the "Tremor Hole" as it had been called. So they decided to gear up, and go down the steep side, to enter the shadow of the Tremor Hole.

The scientists had been waiting for their return, since the area was only open to high-paying visitors during daylight. When night had fallen, and still no sight of the hunters, the entire complex was put on high alert. For five days, there were searches made into every possible place in the mountains, guided by herders who had lived their entire lives here. The hunters' tracks into the Tremor Hole were found. On the fifth day, a team of elite soldiers entered the Tremor Hole. In it, through the unnatural twists and turns of dirt, debris, and land, they found the bodies of the hunters, burned like a crisp, by several small holes in the ground. The soldiers could only look at them from some distance away - there was still steam around the area, and it was too hot inside.

The scientists concluded that the hot gases and temperatures had killed the hunters - as well as the insects. Hot gases - from what? The next ten miles in every direction from that area were closed off permanently. It became a research facility, and the Tremor Hole a "mini-volcano". Since then, it has evolved into something of a volcano, only less dangerous - but also much more unpredictable. Several such Tremor Hole's opened up everywhere within the WEF. Strangely enough, the gaseous eruptions of the tremor holes coincide with occurences elsewhere - namely, the atmosphere.

Several years after the first Tremor Hole, Futuris's Earth scientists also began to notice the increasing frequency of thunderstorms and rainshowers on Futuria. Other places, such as Cordobia (Spain) were reporting increasing severe weather, while Casablanca (Morocco, Algeria) were reporting severe droughts. The Tremor Holes also were much more active, with bigger and more unpredictable eruptions happening much more frequently. Such things continued until 1897, when for an entire year, Futuria was covered in mist. For exactly 365 days, the cities, countryside, mountains - everything, was covered in a thick mist. The Tremor Holes were silent for that year, and erupted occasionally since then. The severe weather in other places ceased almost completely during that year, and was only present sporadically since that year - until now.

Futuris's scientists again report increasing severe weather, and the Tremor Holes are all but crazy. The Aurora Borealis has been spotted in Northern Futuria (Scotland) very frequently in the last couple of months, and Tremor Holes are opening up like wildfire across the lands. An unusual occurence is happening over Cordobia (Spain). A large gathering of clouds is hanging over one spot, shaped like a hurricane cloud - only silent. The clouds have laid an ominous shadow on much of the land - they are like the night, jet black, blocking out sunlight. The cloud is constantly getting bigger, and the places under the cloud are being partially evacuated. It is easily seen from space, as a large hurricane - only black. The wind is still, the land dark, the people fearful - and many still wonder if this is an omen from God. But they are wrong. It is not from God. It's from something far more terrifying.

John Mandrake

To the Nationalist Corbournnian Realm,

Although, in the past, our relations have been a bit...strained, I heartily welcome for a new beginning between our countries. The governments of the past made mistakes, that much we know - but it is up to us to not follow in those cursed footsteps of war, and try for peace and diplomacy. I invite you to establish an embassy in London, and inquire about your permission to establish one in your capital.

To the Schroeder Corporation,

We have watched from the beginning the formation of your Corporation, and I must admit, that you stand above quite an achievement. Not to say, that your military products seem of the highest quality, or cheapest price. Perhaps we can establish embassies of sort, before we co-invest in each other? I am sure you will find room in London, and if I may, send a diplomat along with an experienced political investor to wherever your capital is? Then, I will find myself more secure in investing in your Corporation - and my team that I am sending over will be a quicker way of dealing with the WEF than me alone - although I'm sure in any larger situation, I will be notified. I hope that this is the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship between your Corporation and the WEF.

Indeed. Both of us have been at fault for the various past wars, but Leader Jean-Marie DuBois has confidence that we have grown out of our medieval tendencies. We will glad to establish a Londonian embassy, and you may establish one in Corbournne.

We are pleased to see interest in our corporation from the like of the Futurans, Mr. Mandrake, and our chief economist advises that a co-investing project is safe to play. Our Headquarters are located in Preatoria, so it could be possible for us to contruct a sort of Int'l Investment corridor, a place where all of our forgieng investors can place a representative who may inform us of their wishes. A sound plan. We would like to set up a small-scale corporate center in London, if that is okay with you, where Schroeder could place its Liasons to your nation at a nerby location to you.

But I am glad that we are able to make this connection between our two countries - I myself know what kind of people prowl this world, and I can see that you and I are like-minded - to do whatever is necessary to achieve our goals. Brom Heldfast, Vice Monarch

To the Armed Republic of Carloginias,

Although the current Monarch, John Mandrake, is unavailable at this time, seeing as how he is in Honakon, he confided in me a few things about other nations, and what to do in his absence. He gave me a list of nations to which relations would look favorable - and I must say, that you are quite high on that list. Trade is obviously a big way to help along political relations, and with our two navies, trade along the seas will be very cheap, as well as safe. For these are turbulent times indeed - an invasion south of your borders is already occurring, as well as other such conquests around the globe. May the strength of our relations propel us through these times into a more stable, peaceful world. Thus, I am sending a diplomatic team to Carloginias City, and am inviting you to London.
