------------------------
Bodies were scattered everywhere here in Ravenclaw, corpses of soldiers and rebels who fought for their causes. Government soldiers marched past the bodies, with no emotion, no voice, utter silence. As they marched, news came of a trial to the officers....a trial that would perhaps be a blow to the government.....

-----------------
(The following trial is secret)

In a courtroom, the Emperor, Maximillian the Second, successor to centuries of monarchs, sat on a simple chair, alongside three military judges. He was being tried on suspicion of treason and supporting the recent rebel offensives, like the one described earlier. Though this trial was supposed to be secret, a rebel spy lurked in the shadows.

"You have been charged with conspiracy to commit treason..." the main judge said, reading from a list of crimes the Emperor allegedly committed but was in fact framed for. After he finished reading in his solemn tone, the Emperor spoke solemnly and calmly:

"I have never once considered betraying the land of my fathers, my mothers, my ancestors. The land that earned the title of the "Scourge of Europe" is one of the things I hold dear to my heart. Extremists amongst you have framed me for these crimes, feeling that the Monarchy is a threat to their control over the nation. I ask you, that if you will convict me of my alleged actions and sentence me to execution, that my family be spared."

The judge, after hearing the Emperor's address, stood and said: "This court is adjourned, Your Majesty." The Emperor waited in his chair while the judges exited the room to discuss the verdict.

Ten minutes passed and they came back with the verdict. Sitting down in their chairs, the judges uttered some words before the main judge spoke in a solemn tone:

"By order of this Court, you are sentenced to death by beheading for your crimes against the nation and against this Government. You may be given the last rites according to the Church of Khyzeria if that is what you wish to obtain. Also, this Court declares your family will not come into...harm."

The Emperor was given the chance to speak his final words to the Court:

"May Khyzeria survive the troubles ahead, may it endure the challenges in its way."

The rebel spy recorded all these events and left the room, so he could send the report he wrote to his superiors. He knew that with the execution of the Emperor, a source of national pride to some, the nation would continue to decay.
-----------------
The Emperor's wife came to her husband on the last night he had on Earth. Looking at him with tears pouring down her eyes like Niagara Falls, she embraced him and wept in his arms.

The Emperor shed his inner thoughts on the Government, he knew that though he did not commit any of the crimes he was convicted on, he dissented against the authorities.

"Take care of the children and remember, I always love you." The Emperor said to his wife, after which she left, still sorrowful that her husband who she loved was about to be taken from her.

The next day, the Emperor's wife and children watched as their husband/father was escorted to the platform. A man with an axe stood waiting for them.

The Emperor gave his final words before placing his head on the scaffold:

"What fruits shall come of these deeds?"

Then, the executioner raised his axe and threw it down, slicing the head clear off, blood pouring out as if multiple glasses of drink were being poured. The Empress held in a shriek, her children scared and fearful, save the heir to the throne, Prince Maximillian who showed no fear, no tears.

The head was raised and everyone was silent for a period of minutes. The corpse was then tooken by soldiers where it would be given a funeral, the head would be stiched back on.

-------------------
The "Leader of Khyzeria", Julius Corona looked at the report in his hands. Inside this report which told him of the demise of the Emperor, it read: "Shall the Monarchy be kept or abolished?"

Corona was required to write an answer and send it to his peers. He took a pen from his desk and with calmness simply wrote: "Abolished".

The rebel spy sent his report to his superiors, who when reading it, felt sickened. The Emperor was beheaded by the government's soldiers! The rebels began to discuss plans of action, before one of them suggested that news of the "sickening actions" be spread to other nations, in the hopes of securing aid.

The rebels wrote a simple letter to all nations, those nations who would listen to these Khyzerians who wanted change in their nation.....

"Recently, His Majesty, Emperor Maximillian II, our monarch was illegally beheaded by the government's soldiers. We ask you, in light of this recent grievance, to commit resources to our aid, in the hopes we can break free of the bondage our corrupt government has secured us in."

The letter was sent to all nations, hopefully some would listen and heed their call.....

Julian Volant was a government officer who sympathized with dissenters, though he never made it clear to his peers. He was sent with a group of soldiers to arrest the Imperial Family, as the Government wanted to detain them.

The group's leader was Cornelius Urbana, a well known Secret Police officer who was known as "The Ruthless". Helmsley, while portraying the Secret Police officer, also, in secret, portrayed the "Undesirable" lifestyle...of a pedophile. He did not torture young girls, in fact he abided by one of the underground pedophile groups' creeds, which did not advocate such things.

As they marched, the Royal Guardsmen came forward and demanded to know why the group of soldiers had come. They relented when they were told the reason.

Empress Cecilia looked outside and told her maids and assistants to gather the children. However, Prince Maximillian, the heir to the throne was missing, and Cecilia was worried about him as much as about herself and the others.

Prince Maximillian was with a group of Reformist officers in the military that fled to the countryside to organize themselves. He would not be arrested by Urbana's group of soldiers.

-------------
"The Government has declared that you, Empress Cecilia and your children are to be detained until further notice." Julius Urbana read calmly to the Empress and her family, before turning to look at the fourteen year old Princess Olivia, staring at her with his eyes. He knew what he wanted, and he would soon get it.

What I am about to tell you may be disgusting, but I urge you to remember such events, so that when this government is ever toppled, you may use it as evidence in any trials, etc.

After a brief conversation between Cecilia and Julius, Julius beckoned his soldiers forward and uttered some words. The soldiers, hearing these words, began to grab the children of Empress Cecilia. One of them brought Olivia to Helmsley.

The children were brutally stabbed, beaten and in summary murdered, while Olivia was tooken by Helmsley and sexually assualted in a nearby room. As for Cecilia, she was shot and fell to the ground. Volant, who watched and did not participate, was powerless to do anything, he did not enjoy what he saw, and it only would grow into him becoming a member of the rebels later on.

The soldiers were told to grab the bodies and bring them to the place they were holding the Emperor's corpse. It was still not planned as to what they would do with the corpses, some considered framing dissenters with assassinating the Emperor's family.

The maids and assistants were also murdered, so that no one would utter a word about these events. These corpses were simply disposed of and dealt with.

Maximillian was now the only member of his family still living, he did not know he was the remaining member of his family, he did not know that a group of soldiers brutally murdered his family.

Official West Corinthian Statement

I have recently received word of the political assassination of the Khyzerian Emperor, Maximillian the Second. As Czar of West Corinthia, I have taken special notice of this incident. I will now address directly the de facto government of Khyzeria: I do not know what you have done with the other members of the royal family, but it would be in your best interests to keep them alive. Expect to see us soon.

Signed,
Czar Ptolemy I

Somewhere in West Corinthia

No declaration of war had been yet made, but the Corinthian military was already on wartime alert levels. Plans were being drafted for a complete invasion of Khyzeria, along with scenarios for a possible rescue of royal family members via special ops troops.

Already the 32nd Corinthian Paratroopers division was getting prepared for deployment. With small arms and light vehicles, they would be expected only to secure small objectives within Khyzeria. The heavy armor would be landing by sea. The 2nd surface fleet was en route to Khyzerian waters with orders to fire only if fired upon. Nevertheless, they were sure a declaration of war would come soon.

In the senate house in Kydonia, West Corinthia

The Corinthian senate did not meet until after mobilization of land and sea forces had already begun. As puppets to the Czar, many believed they would vote unanimously for a declaration of war. Nevertheless, they began the standard regulations for meetings of this kind. The vote would be coming soon.

OOC: I know IC'ly that the emperor was killed but I don't know about the rest of the royal family. Once that news comes out, expect the invasion to come shortly afterwards. Also, I'm assuming you're not a landlocked nation, please correct me if I'm wrong.

The news was received with some shock by members of the Imperial elite, and while the Emperor was not inclined to give assistance, the Imperial Cabinet felt that something needed to be done.

"Your Majesty - this is the third Empire to fall in the past week! These people have murdered their own sovereigns, and they rise in full rebellion against themselves. It is obvious that we must impart to them the skills of effective government and to restore them their monarchs."

The Emperor felt reluctant to give a reply. "These are the lands of the barbarians, and it is only fitting that barbarians do to themselves as they have always done. They forge alliances to make wars against each other and throw the whole world into disarray, yet do we expect to intervene and make things right for them? They must learn by our example and seek the peaceful and assertive method of government."

The Governor of Sacheon Province stood up somewhat in protest, "Our example is to sit aside while people murder other people. If His Majesty has any interest to save his own throne, he must consider it duly."

The atmosphere suddenly turned hostile, but the Emperor kept a cool face. He smiled as he gave an apt compromise. "I will consider the sacrifice of Han troops, but instead of rendering it without their consent, we will ask them if they require assistance in the first place. If they do, I shall consider offering an expedition to repulse the barbarians and to restore the order in their lands. But I must stress that if we begin intervention, it may become an example to intervene whenever desired. They pose no real threat to us, and likely they will police themselves to much greater effect than if we were to perform the police work for them. But I shall ask nonetheless."

COMMUNICATION FROM THE FOREIGN MINISTRY OF THE GREAT HAN EMPIRE:

:: We have received indication that your government has fallen in disarray and rebels now threaten the stability of your sovereign state. His Imperial Majesty - the Gwangmu Emperor - has authorized the dispatch of a mission to determine if assistance is required. If your people require aid in maintaining stability, His Imperial Majesty will consider sending assistance in the form of expeditionary troops, finance, and/or other means of keeping the peace. Please indicate in the next 48 hours if His Imperial Majesty's aid is requested. Otherwise, we will consider any null response to be negative.

The Emperor and his family were laid to rest in a mausoleum built by the Government, who framed their murder of the Emperor's family on bandits and thugs. Julius Urbana (decided to change his name from Helmsley), who was the leader of the group that disposed of them, sat on his chair in his office.

No one knew much about this hard working man, save his hard work. In secret, he ran a pedophile-prostitution ring, secret brothels where pedophile men could obtain the services of "comfort girls". If he was ever found out, he would have been tortured to death.

-------------
One day, Julian Volant was enjoying breakfast with his wife and only child, Elizabeth (or "Lizzie"). Elizabeth, a gifted child, went to a "special school" while Juliet Volant stayed at home. Julian Volant had a day off today and he was hoping to get things ready for the upcoming family vacation.

As breakfast progressed, the three enjoyed conversation, talking about school, work and other topics. Julian never uttered a word about the murder of the Imperial Family when discussing work but instead went through other things.

As Elizabeth went to the door to head for school, she told her father she'd be back as soon as she could as the family was going for a vacation this weekend, Elizabeth had her things packed but she wanted to get home on time.

She left and walked down the streets of Rossignol, a city (not the capital) named for the Imperial Family's surname. As she walked down the street, walking to school, a man grabbed her...and then, well you get the picture.

Hours had past and Julian's wife was getting impatient. Where was her daughter...where was Elizabeth?

(I'm trying to bring Volant to the rebels, he'll be a help to them. It was Urbana's men who kidnapped Elizabeth to put her in the brothels.)

Inside the Corinthian Senate
(Secret IC)

The debate over the war issue had begun. Matthias Iosif, a senator who opposed going to war, took the podium to address the Senate. "Fellow Corinthians," he began, "we should not be warmongering in this fashion." The mention of the word 'warmongering' brought a short bout of whispering amongst the senators below. Matthias continued, "We have no proof to support the idea that the Khyzerian monarch was murdered by their government. New media sources indicate that the assassination was carried out by rogues with no ties to the government. I urge the Czar to order the military to stand down and this war bill to be defeated." He left the podium in dead silence.

Next, Leonidas Stathis took the podium. "Friends, Corinthians, countrymen, mark my words. A foreign nation has dared to kill their own monarch in a fashion befitting a common criminal. This action cannot be tolerated. West Corinthia must show the world that the institution of a monarchy must be loved and revered by its people. I declare Khyzeria's sovereignty to be nullified, and I urge the senate to vote for this war measure. Thank you." Stathis left the podium amid thunderous applause from the senate. Even the Czar, from his high throne, stood and clapped for a moment before taking his seat.

Shortly afterward, a representative from the Czar's spy network presented intel that proved the Khyzerian emperor had not been killed by rogues. The information was more than enough to justify military action in the view of the senate. In a vote of 102-18, the Senate of West Corinthia voted for a declaration of war against Khyzeria. The government of Khyzeria would be overthrown and a new monarchy established in its place.

No announcement had yet been made to the public.

(The conflict begins.....)

Sylvester Silvestri was a general in the Reformist Army and a member of the defunct nobility. He disliked the current government and hoped for change. Tonight, he would lead soldiers to attack government soldiers in New Normandy (Normans had settled in Khyzeria centuries before).

Battles and skirmishes ensued all throughout the region, with Silvestri's soldiers taking the victory repeatedly and government soldiers being routed. News of the events would soon be in the hands of rebels and government alike.

----------------------
Meanwhile, in a office, Julian Volant had been talking to some of his peers when he saw police bringing in a young man, who he heard was a suspected rebel, or a spy, or both. The rebel said nothing or did nothing, but when he looked at Volant, he shouted:

"Your daughter is in one of Urbana's brothels! Your...."

Volant stopped them and said: "Brothels? Urbana? How do you know about this...where is my daughter?" The man looked at him and said "She's in one of his brothels, a "comfort woman".

Volant contemplated this information and then said: "Put this man in a cell, I'll talk to him later." The man was tooken to a nearby cell and locked up. After this, Volant went to his office and found a letter from Urbana, asking him to do a report..it was in his (Urbana's) office.

As Volant went inside and opened the desk doors, he found pictures of his family, with Elizabeth circled. He went through the pictures and knew...the man was telling the truth.

Volant however could not turn Urbana in, because Urbana could dispose of his daughter...and then himself and his wife. He decided it was best to wait things out.

Volant talked more to the man and then went home. When he told his wife about what happened, she replied that she thought how Urbana tried to comfort them was odd.

Volant and his wife went to sleep later that night and in their minds, they thought about Elizabeth, hoping she was ok. They knew that the KNN was broadcasting the story, asking people to "keep an eye out for her".

Khyzerian News Network: Today, government soldiers are fighting to prevent further attacks from rebels. We await further developments as we look into the story for you..our viewers.

-----------
Prince Maximillian knew who was generating the rebel attacks. Sylvester Silvestri was the man and his supporters, the "Silvestrians" were widespread in Khyzeria. Maximillian led the Royal Guard, a group that wanted to protect the monarchy.

The area of Ravenclaw was the scene of the "Second Battle of Ravenclaw", with Silvestri's soldiers fighting government soldiers. Bullets and shells flew in the air, hitting flesh and metal. The government was suprised to see rebel aircraft, probably from sympathizers in the military, and dog fights ensued in the skies.

Maximillian's armies were relatively similar to rebel armies, he was not a member of the rebels but a "Independent", but they both had mostly the same goal...to change Khyzeria. Maximillian put his soldiers on alert and awaited more news.

OOC: The Volant story is like a subplot, etc. He becomes a member of the rebels and helps them by giving them intelligence after he finds out about his daughter's whereabouts.

Khyzerian News Network: We are sad to report that Elizabeth Volant, the girl that went missing some days ago was found in a forest and not alive....We send our condolences to the Volant family.

Julian Volant's wife was sorrowful, weeping on her husband's shoulders. As Julian tried to comfort his wife, they were greeted by Urbana, who seemed to send his condolences. However, his words betrayed him and as he left, Julian knew he was behind it...a piece of paper fell from his pocket.

The paper said:
"Elizabeth was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. It is sad that my soldiers disposed of her."

Volant was outraged and decided to find the young man in the jail cell. Recieving information about a rebel hideout, he helped the man escape and they went to the hideout, where Volant promised to help the rebels.

Volant came up with a plan..but to enact his plan...he needed assistance from others.

Julian Volant took some of the soldiers given to him to command (by the rebel leaders he met with) to fortify the area around the city of Draconium, named for one of Khyzeria's national heroes. Volant's goals were different a bit from his peers. While they sought to attack government leaders, he focused on Urbana.

Volant had been told that foreigners were coming to assist the rebels and he awaited their arrival..perhaps they had some assassins with them, assassins he could use to eliminate Urbana.

Sylvester Silvestri halted his armies and told them to be prepared for the upcoming battles while other rebel soldiers would be going to the area where Zackaroth's soldiers would be landing. Prince Maximillian and his Royal Guard marched as well, marching northwest.

The government prepared its soldiers for whatever would come. Anti-aircraft guns abounded as well as naval guns. It was known that the rebels were in the process of getting their own navy. Government infantry entrenched themselves, armed with machine guns, RPG's and the like.

As for citizens, they did not really know that foreign soldiers would be contributing to the conflict that had recently began.

Rebel soldiers marched to greet the Zackarothian soldiers. The Raider did not march with them, as he was at his camp. After a couple of minutes, the rebel soldiers arrived to meet the Zackarothians. Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs

William Mason, the Minister of Foreign Affairs was sitting in his office, hearing the pleas of groups to help out some country or another. This was the part of the job that he hated, the pleas which it had been nicknamed. The clock in his office was edging closer to Midday

"Thank goodness this is almost over," he thought

The last group to enter were Khyzerians, and they said what had come of their country in the last few days; how an Emperor had been executed by his own government; the vicious murders of the remainder of the Royal Family and how the country was falling apart. The Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs escorted this group out and Mason took out a one sesterce coin. It was clear that he was thinking and he started spinning the coin. It landed, heads up, and Mason was left staring at an image of his own Emperor. He realised that perhaps this would be a conflict the Empire should enter into

Government Lobby

Another hour passed and Mason made his way to the government lobby to speak with none other than the Minister of Defence, Patrick Webb. He knew that the best option for the Empire was to make this a "police action," it would mean that there had to be no Parliamentary votes, no giving of assents - all it required was a majority vote in cabinet.

"Paddy, what are the chances of sending a "police" force to Khyzeria."

"Quite good actually Bill, certainly the forces are quite quiet at the moment, no wars, and even better we just got the latest batch of draftees."

"That is good, how; we are not sending cannon fodder."

"Of course not, however, the draftees can provide the numbers for interior defence, anyways, how many troops are you thinking of sending?"

"Well, Khyzeria has a population of 29 million, so probably a million troops, backed with naval and air forces should help. The other question though is - who are we going to back?"

"What do you mean?"

"Well, Paddy, we would certainly not be supporting a bunch of regicides, but we got Prince Maximillian and the Royal Guard as well as some rebels supporting freedom fighting against the government. I always get suspicious when I hear about rebels supporting freedom."

"Yes, I know, you think they are a bunch of reds"

"Yep, you read my mind, can we get cabinet to agree to this measure?"

"Probably, the only ones that would really be unlikely to support this would be Morgan and Baird, but then they were always the pacifist type"

Cabinet Room

"I move that the next motion be debated in secret"

"I second the motion"

"Motion moved and seconded, any objection - no objection; would the Cabinet Secretary please make her way out from the room"

The Minister of Foreign Affairs then rose to speak

"Honourable Members, I am suggesting that we enter into some sort of police action in Khyzeria and that we support Prince Maximillian and the Royal Guard. If anything, we should be able to use the force of numbers to overwhelm these regicides. After speaking to the Minister of Defence, it has been calculated that we would need to send a million troops as well as fifteen hundred vessels. I propose that the Wakefield District, the Linwood District, the Birkenhead District and Mt. Domet District Armies be sent, and that the naval forces will be the Alexandrian District Fleet and the Linwood District Fleet. Once we have established ground in Khyzeria, then we can send the air force and more high tech stuff and so on. I move that the motion be agreed to"

Also, note that the place names, etc on the Bergonia maps are not the same in Khyzeria.

While The Raider and Zackarothian soldiers were going to secure the rest of the area in the Southeast, Sylvester Silvestri began to order more attacks around the Southwest, having brought soldiers with him to the area, while he kept some back in the Northwest area to protect rebel held areas, those areas he secured earlier (having finished securing the area that is labeled "Sefaieri" on the second OOC map).

Silvestri's plan was to secure the Southwest so that he could advance later on into other parts of the nation and have somewhere to keep supplies. The rebels had also controlled the Whale Islands (Calpia on a Bergonia map) named for the whale industry.

-------------------
OOC: I think I'm going to get more government into this.

The government of Khyzeria had a mercenary as one of its best generals. Walter Malden was a veteran of the First Iraq War and had moved to Khyzeria afterwards, as he had married a Khyzerian woman. So far, they had one son and one daughter, his family lived in the East Region.

Malden had been known to some as the "Scourge of the Rebels" for preventing rebel advances into the East-Central region. He was in charge of this area, while others were in charge of areas like the Northeast.

Days before, rebels tried to attack the East-Central region but failed, being forced back by Malden. Malden's new orders were to be transfered to the Southeast-East Central border. Zackarothian soldiers and The Raider's soldiers could find themselves, if things develop in this way, fighting Malden and his armies.

It was conciliatory and short; they didn't even explain the reason for the assistance. It was obvious that there was more to this situation than what met the Emperor's eyes. He stood there and had the emissary write a dictation:

"Esteemed leaders of Khyzeria,

I have heard your desires for assistance and while I am inclined to support your cause, I have little indication from your request that indicates any dire necessity. I must blunt when I say that the Han will not die in vain, and I will not send my citizens to fight your wars without just cause. Please explain to me the nature of the rebellion in your land, the grievances that they have submitted to your government, and likewise their reasons for murdering the Emperor. If I receive no excuse for these events, I will let things come as they are and let the other nations come to your aid and waste their soldiers upon your causes without excuse. Zackaroth, look at the map again, around the "Balupic-Serpei" border, Malden's soldiers are coming.

Walter Malden's soldiers arrived near the Elizabethtown area, and government soldiers cheered as reinforcements were coming. Malden was told that there was a possibility of rebel attack by "The Raider", one of the main rebel generals.

Malden ordered an increase in defense and fortification. He created a "Strike Group" that, if the rebels attacked, would rush in and counterattack. Malden was an expert, having experience in Iraq.

Later on in the day, Malden wrote a letter to his wife and then walked back outside and looked at the direction of Elizabethtown. "They will arrive soon...and I'll be here for them."

They are in the Pasiana area, around the town/city of "St. Laurent" on the map. Note that the names on the Bergonia maps are not the same in Khyzeria. Also, thought I'd use Volant and Urbana again.

Julian Volant was leading his soldiers into the Northeast, hoping to secure areas he could use to attack the East region from. His wife, Juliet was safe with her bodyguard. As he marched, Volant took a picture of his family out. "I will fight to make sure no child goes through what Elizabeth did." Volant thought to himself.

Volant heard of news that Urbana, the leader of the brothels, was in the area he was marching to. If he captured him, Volant thought, he could interrogate him and find out more from the brothel leader himself.

Volant had been a rebel general for not that long but he rose through the ranks quite quickly. When they arrived at the outskirts of Port Alba, well known for its Scottish heritage, Volant prepared to lay siege to the city Urbana was in. Urbana could try to escape..but could he?

Machine guns, artillery, RPG's and tanks began to fire their ammo at their targets from both sides, flames came up from city buildings, this historic Scottish made city was the site of a battle.

A Letter To The Emperor From A Group of Rogue Rebels:

"Your Majesty, before you consider helping the Government, as we have found out through the interception of your letter, we wish to ask you...do you support the forcing of young girls into brothels, the unjust and illegal trial and execution of monarchs, the brutal murder of a family, and other such things?

If you don't, then we ask you not to support the government and support us in our struggle to defeat the government. We ask you to consider supporting us if the idea of supporting the government is not good to you."

A Letter From The Government to the Emperor (The Government's Viewpoint):

"These rebels are ignorant of the social progress we have made in this nation. Sometimes, things have to be cut back on and/or sacrificed. For example, though the cost was great, did not Stalin's industralization programs help in defeating Adolf Hitler? Without industralization, it would have been more harder for the Soviets to defeat their enemies.

We have made much social progress in our nation. For example, we have significantly reduced the crime rate, protected our children from child molesters, etc (OOC: Ironic..with the Volant story and all), and made the nation's economy strong.

We ask you to consider supporting us and helping us deal with these people who do not understand the benefits of our leadership."

As the soldiers of both sides began to depart, The Raider went to his family and told them that he would be going to battle. He asked for some soldiers to protect them. Looking back at them for a bit, he then turned forward and continued to march.

Meanwhile, Walter Malden was told that a rebel attack could occur soon, as rumors and the like were spreading. Malden told his soldiers to prepare for a possible battle. They had gasmasks, something Ali did not know, hopefully some of them would not be able to put them on or something.

Malden looked at the place where the enemy was coming and awaited their arrival. "They'll be here soon...they'll be here soon."

ooc: my government is the Emperor...

sic: The Emperor received the two messages quickly, It was dawn, and while he hadn't expected their arrival so quickly, the content of the messages indicated two different stories, and reason enough to consult the Imperial Cabinet once again.

"May it please His Imperial Majesty," the Governor of Sacheon began once again, "the rebels that accuse this government of executing the Emperor of Khyzeria already have the burden of proof against them. The government has already shown to us that the rebels beheaded their own monarch, and yet they expect us to believe that their government is a wretched pile of apathetic barbarians? It is a fool's bargain to join the rebels!"

The Governor of Gwangdong replied, yelling equally loud: "And it means nothing, because we have received no reply worthy of the sacrifice of the Han. This government has mismanaged their conflict, and it seems that they are at their last breath. Even now, our intelligence suggests that the rebels control the capital and are making great progress against the government forces..."

"All the more reason to support the government against the hordes!"

"You've lost your mind, Duke Yi! I feel no obligation for the Han to sacrifice men and material to support them. The government may be right, may be wrong, but they have lost the Divine Mandate to govern their lands. If we support the rebels, we risk sowing seeds for a future conflict."

The Emperor stood up, as the Governors continued to debate the situation thoroughly. "From what I have perceived, the government has made a hasty reply; they are in decline, and without any assistance will surely perish. However, of this certainty, I am casting doubts as to whether or not the government legitimately holds the power. I have little reason to conclude that the rebels or the government are right. In which case, involvement in the conflict will put us in doubt of our superiority of the right. But I must decide thoroughly whether or not it is useful to support the rebels. Aside from the accused murder of the Emperor and His royal family, I see no other evidence that they wish to perpetuate the suffering upon the people of Khyzeria, whereas the government has made no indication to us that they are willing to negotiate with their own people. They claim these things in the name of social progress, but what is progress without a soul? They have cited the progress of oppressors of years past and they have given to us reason to support the rebels by their own hands."

The Governors uniformly nodded and replied, "What does His Imperial Majesty wish for us?"

The Emperor then had his emissary write his dictations again:

"To the Rebels of the Esteemed Government of Khyzeria,

I have heard your pleas, and I am curious first as to the reason for the murder of the Royal Family, second to the reason for your rebellion, and third for the reason that your government oppresses you. If you answer these, we may yet provide support for you, to establish a legitimate government that may bring benefit to humanity.

Emperor Gwangmu"

"To the Esteemed Government of Khyzeria,

I have read your excuses, and while they are urgent, I see no clear grievances displayed by your government. I am led to assume that your government has made no attempt to reconcile with these rebels, to make the situation more amenable to them and to resolve civil dispute without violence. If this is the case, I cannot support your government against what is viewed to be a legitimate cause for rebellion against irreparable oppression. I am sorry to leave this issue as it stands, but until I find just cause to intervene, I shall leave you and your government to its Destiny. There is no point wasting Han children to fight your wars.

The Rogue Rebels' Response:

"The government brutally murdered the family of the late monarch. Government dissenters who were present at the event and who defected have said repeatedly that they killed innocent children in a more brutal way than the Reds with the Romanov family. They also framed the monarch for crimes that were either faked or done by others. The government is filled with corruption, Your Majesty. For example, there is the brothels run by a government leader, filled with young girls forced to be comfort women while their parents lament.

The government may try to absolve itself, but can it absolve itself of the purging of those in Parliament who did not support them following the 1978 Rebellion and other crimes it has committed? For years, we have been oppressed. Women see their husbands in graves, parents see their daughters as prostitutes and we see ourselves being shackled by tyranny.

Your Majesty, do you not think that tyranny and oppresion is wrong? For years, we had a good constitutional monarchy and things were good, until this rabble came along and took all of it from us.

Your Majesty, do you not think that the forcing of children into brothels is wrong? The girls are forced to become comfort women for customers, some of them are 14 or perhaps even younger. Would you, Your Majesty, support a government that has one of its leaders, knowingly or not to them, running such operations?

-End Message-

The Government's Response:

"The rebels may tell you that we are tyrants and oppressors, but do they not see the social progress made? We significantly reduced the crime rate to protect our people from criminals. We have made the nation's economy stronger, brought world-class education to children and have helped people in need.

Let us use an example from alchemy to explain that sometimes one thing needs to be lost to obtain another:

"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost."

It was also said:

"That the pain we went through did have a reward and that anyone who's determined and perseveres will get something of value in return, even if it's not what they expected."

Though some of our policies brought pain unto the people, who expected failure, etc, the results were higher than what they expected, and that was success.

We hope this letter has clarified any questions you may have had, Your Majesty".

Malden noticed the enemy soldiers arriving. "Get ready...they're coming!" and with these words the anti-aircraft guns were aiming at the aircraft, while hidden artillery prepared to fire at the Xen. Snipers and machine guns hid, ready to strike.

The Raider ordered his men to attack in the Left direction, he asked Ali to have his soldiers attack in the Right. He wanted to use the "Suffocation Strategy" to "suffocate" the enemy.

Artillery blasted at the Xen, trying to disable or eliminate it. Meanwhile, machine guns opened fire at approaching Zackarothians, including the snipers. The volley of machine gun bullets went throughout the air.

Some of the AA guns had been destroyed by the aircraft, but reprisals were had when some of the aircraft was shot out of the sky. Malden's aircraft soon appeared in the sky, and dog fights began.

The battle had begun but the question was...who would be victorious and who would be defeated?

ooc: too many messages X_X

The Emperor was showering as he received the next message. The one thought crossed his mind - don't these people give me a rest?

He quickly finished up and came out to address both of the messages. The rebels were very detailed in their grievances, and indeed some of them were legitimate. The government's reply seemed altogether unjustified and their own admission of oppression "in the name of social progress" laid the blame upon the government. He had no choice at this point.

He dictated his last messages to each of the groups.

"To the Rebellion,

I have received your grievances, and even though I am not sovereign over your lands, I feel pity for the people who have suffered. I have received an equal reply from the government, claiming that they have aimed for this oppression in the name of progress, but if they were to witness what I witness, they would agree that even progress must be tamed by humanity. They have made strides accordingly, but they have given nothing in return for the trials of the people over whom they govern and from whom they receive their trust. I cannot do little at this moment, but I will appoint an official to oversee unofficial assistance to your group, as long as I receive full assurance to the following conditions: those responsible must be held accountable for their own crimes, each person carrying his own guilt; the government shall be replaced with a more humane government that recognizes the progress of the previous administrations while also recognizing their failures to accommodate the sufferings of their people; the rebellion shall desist any further attack when their grievances have been fully satisfied; the rebellion shall inflict no unnecessary harm upon the people of Khyzeria and that they will treat every citizen of their country with justice, that even the oppressors should have a taste of the proper method of government. I have little doubt that these conditions should be satisfied, and I wish well for your people.

My second contact will be with you shortly - if any doubt should ever linger, I hope that it is understood that your people have never conversed with me or my representatives; but we hope that things will not need to degenerate that far.

"To the Esteemed Government of Khyzeria,

The Shadow Forces, highly elite Mercenaries in Maldorians, were looking for a new job...General Jurgen Vas, upon seeing the situation in Khyzeria, took out his pen and paper and began a document for the Khyzerian government.

To Whom it May Concern:

I have seen the situation in your beloved homeland. I am willing it help out. I will send Mercenary legions to your nation and help in your fight against terrorism. The troops can be shipped or paradropped, your choice.

-Jugen Vas

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The landers unloaded their payload of the thousands of troops and vehicles. The group then met up with the Khyzeria rebels and followed the rebels towards the rendez-vous point.

Government Response:

"We will glady accept the support of your mercenary legions. We wish for you to be shipped in the East Region, around the border with the Southeast. We thank you for your assistance once again and await your arrival."

Zackarothian men where shot down where they stood. " Get those machine guns!" Ali yelled. The snipers fired upon the machine gunners trying to take them out. The 4 aircraft where shot down. 2 of them purposely tried to crash themselves into the dfending forces.

The Xen was having a hard time now. It was hit on the deck and there was a fire down below. BUt it still kept firing into the city. The 26 planes left engaged the other planes with equal ferocity. 30 more planes where on there way to help out. BUt suddenly there was a sound of buzzing.

30 other small crop dusters where coming in. They where flying low enough to avoid the planes on top and if the AA guns took time to try and get them one of the dealier planes would most likley go after the city. Ali looked on though. " I didn't order a U-22!" he yelled.

" No you didn't. I ordered a U-23" said a voice from his radio. THe cropdusters started leaking some sort of black substance. It was oil. Black gold. Why where 30 cropdusters trying to spray oil all over the city?

As Volant's soldiers captured Port Alba, Urbana wrote a simple letter and then took cyanide and collapsed in the room he was in. When his corpse was found with the letter, the letter was an admittance of his deeds and orientation.

The corpse of Urbana was placed alongside other corpses which would be later buried. Volant did not know this, for he was at the City Hall, signing a surrender treaty with the enemy. The enemy was surrendering to him.

After the surrender, citizens saw Volant and his soldiers take control of the city. No side, rebel or government, held more areas in the nation than the other and the government had been fortifying the capital area, it would take a lot of soldiers to get through.

News of the Northwest now being under the control of rebels except for some areas spread to the rebel and government factions. Volant decided to let his soldiers rest for now.

Radio Room, INS Achilles

The Radio Room was a hive of activity; the noise of scrambling and coding machines going off made it an extremely noisy place. The Radio Operator had been waiting for one message for the last week now, then a little after one in the morning, it came

"Captain Beasley, we have received communication from Prince Maximillian - he wants your fleet to sail to New Albion in the Norwest of Khyzeria."

The Radio Operator ran to the bridge and gave the message to Captain Beasley, who proceeded to thank him and open up the message.

Commodore John Beasley had been in the Imperial Navy for thirty-three years, and it had been a largely boring career; war was something that the Empire rarely got itself into and so he had to experience the joy of exercises and the constant moving of vessels from one port to another. At least now he could experience conflict, as well as enjoy the extra Ten Gold Denarii (about US$1500) he would earn each day.

"STEADY PORT," screamed the Commodore as he modified the signal lights

"Steady Port, Sir!"

As the night went on, the fleet struggled to stay in international waters as the Souwest coast approached - at this rate, it would probably be another day before they reached New Albion; it was time for the Commodore to enter into further communication with the Prince

Beasley was interested at the choice of location; he looked at his charts and noticed that the area was particularly hilly, no need to fuss though, the Prince had indicated that was the safest place to be, and anyways, the safer the place, the sooner the big guns could be brought in.

The fleet turned shoreward, being careful to ensure their entrance was discreet. The entire operation would be conducted at night, and to make their presence even more discreet, the entire fleet would be split up and left some ten miles offshore; only the INS Achilles plus a further twelve destroyers would go any closer.

Daylight would allow scouting for the Prince's position, and soon enough, it was found; hopefully...

However, the government was not yet defeated. Malden, the American mercenary general was trying to defeat the soldiers of The Raider and the Zackarothians and recent government counterattacks were successful.

"Trying to crash themselves into our soldiers? What is this, The Pacific during World War II?"

A couple of machine gunners got tooken down by the snipers, this only told the others to continue firing, but more heavily. Planes were falling out of the sky as a result of the dog fights.

When the dealer plane went over the area, an AA gun shot the plane, hitting one of the wings and tearing it off. Malden looked above him and then went to look at the Xen.

Artillery continued to blast its way through the Xen, generating fires all over the ship. "Force them back!" it rang through the air. "Force them back!". The snipers were encouraged to "wreak havoc and give them a harsh treatment".

Malden noticed the oil being spilt all over the city. "They could be planning to set fire to the city, after all oil is flammable, at least I believe it is." one of Malden's assistants said. "Take it out."

"Thank goodness we got the right camp."

It was decided that some of the troops would land, while the others would remain on the boats; discretion is the better part of valour after all. A quarter of a million troops would handle phase one and the remaining troops could be slowly landed after that. Soon enough, the troops were being landed on the beach and a camp was being prepared just inland. The tall mountains in the distance cast a beautiful, yet at the same time, eerie image of what was likely to come.

Beasley gathered a few hundred troops; they were to march to the camp of Prince Maximillian, and before long, they were at the camp gates.

The city burned, well at least some of it, like a raging inferno. Malden saw this and watched it for a bit, before turning back to see his machine gun formation being swept up in a blast of multiple missles.

"Regroup and attack!" the machine gun officer told his soldiers as they tried to get set up again, well those who survived tried to get set up again. When they were ready, they began to commence their attack.

The Xen soon sunk in the water, right after a final attack from artillery ended its life. Malden watched it sink and then looked back to the battle. His infantry were bogged down, trying to fight. However, Malden soon saw some soldiers attempting to charge at Ali's group.

Both sides had lost many men but the battle still raged on. Malden hoped he could secure a victory, hoping that the area would not collapse.

"If you have any suggestions, etc than please be free to tell us of them." Maximillian looked at Beasley and waited for a response.

Many of the enemy soilders would find alot of Zackarothian soilders experts at hand to hand and knivery. Ali got in on the action as he stabbed some poor soilder in the throat and shot him dead. This did not distract the machine gunners and kept firing at the incoming soilders.

The X-35s flew around, again avoiding the city and came back up on Raider's group. They fired there weapons at the incoming enemy soilders hoping to take them down down quickly.

The Raider's soldiers saw the enemy soldiers being attacked by the X-35's, which was a benefit because it made sure there would be less resistance. The Raider's soldiers went into the city, cleaning up any resistance in the part of the city they were in, making the way clear for a further advance.

As Ali stabbed the soldier in the throat, a man came up from behind and stabbed him in the back, only to find himself shot by a Zackarothian soldier afterwards. The government soldiers continued to fight, hoping for a good result.

Malden noticed The Raider's soldiers in the city and after talking to an assistant, saw more of his soldiers going into the city, instead of fighting Ali's group.

"You can call me sir, I don't mind it. Let us discuss plans shall we? My peers have been telling me to send the Imperial Guard somewhere, so I would like to know if you can assist us in a operation."

"If you have any suggestions, etc than please be free to tell us of them." Maximillian looked at Beasley and waited for a response.

"We most certainly can assist in an operation Sir; I believe the best way to deal with the government positions is using some sort of trickery - my proposal is that we get some of the Imperial Troops to attack the government forces; distract them, while the Imperial Guard and perhaps some Imperial Troops take over their camps.

The closest camp appears to be over here, by that valley by the northern part of the harbour. If I get some intelligence on the position; then we can decide a prudent course of action, in terms of numbers and so on.

Also, I must ask you Sir, is the area secure enough for us to send in the Air Force? We did not want to risk them in combat just yet while we were unsure about the security of the area; if there are any Imperial Guard held airfields or anything, could we use them to transport supplies and of course our reconnaissance planes."

The Raider's soldiers began to use artillery to blast holes in the enemy defence. The Raider split his group up, each going the opposite way, in order to "suffocate the enemy". Hopefully, they could force a capture of the city.

The soldiers fighting with Ali's group were forced back from air bombardment, but that did not stop Ali's group from being bombarded by hidden artillery. Malden saw that some of Ali's soldiers were coming to his camp. He grabbed his pistol and sword (which he brought from America) and told his men: "This is where we stand tall like firmly rooted trees! Do not relent!"

A Zackarothian soldier tried to stab Malden, but Malden cut him down with his sword. Malden's soldiers then charged into the foray, fighting Ali's coming soldiers.

After both messages went to their respective recipients, he called the Agency of Imperial Contracts, authorizing them to render any support to the rebellion Khyzeria. He gave them a name: Yu Seongryong. He would be the official contact between the Han and the Khyzerian(?) rebels.

Count Yu looked at the list and the Imperial declaration, and decided that it was an appropriate time to contact the rebels:

"To whom it may concern among the Rebellion in Khyzeria:

I am Count Yu Seongryong and I shall be serving as your intermediary between the Han Empire and your people. I have been tasked to ensure your success by any means available to my use, and I intend to make good upon Han promises. Unfortunately, I cannot garner enough support in the Imperial Cabinet to sanction sending His Imperial Majesty's troops to fight for you, but a slush fund amounting to about 5 billion of the common currency ($5 billion) to arrange for arms, equipment, and other necessary items for your armed conflict. I have been instructed to ensure that these weapons will be used promptly as an extended loan program, with a satisfactory result permitting His Imperial Majesty to grant amnesty for the repayment. So far, His Imperial Majesty is rather pleased with what he has seen, and I would suggest that things keep as they are.

I can arrange for a number of assortments to be shipped to your country promptly. I have submitted a manifest of the items available to your forces at the end of this message, and I do hope that you are open to using these resources. If His Imperial Majesty is further satisfied with the result, he may yet consider full intervention on your behalf.

But for now, if there is anything that I can personally assure, please let me know, so I may work to make it so.

IC: With the permission to land granted, the Alexandrian Ptolemais Air Force was soon landing at airfields all around the North West of Khyzeria, preparing for the final battle. It was a very small contigent, made up of eighty F-16 fighters, eighty An-124 transport jets and twenty recon planes; but it would certainly be enough. Before long, supplies were arriving on the beach where the Imperial Army was based.

Meanwhile, at the base, the radios were busy, detecting all the messages going back and forth between the rebel groups.

"Sir, Sir, I believe the rebels are planning a massive attack on the Khyzerian Capital"

"Oh, yes I heard something along those lines earlier"

Commodore Beasley was thinking; should the Imperial Army begin moving out and making their way to the East Central region. Even with the Air Force helping them, it would take them some days to move across, especially with the increase in altitude that was likely. Beasley made his way back to the radio room and attempted to enter into communication with Maximillian's troops

"This is Imperial Army Two, this is Imperial Army Two; seeking Maximillian frequency, do you read?"

OOC: Been a pleasure being part of the RP

IC: With the permission to land granted, the Alexandrian Ptolemais Air Force was soon landing at airfields all around the North West of Khyzeria, preparing for the final battle. It was a very small contigent, made up of eighty F-16 fighters, eighty An-124 transport jets and twenty recon planes; but it would certainly be enough. Before long, supplies were arriving on the beach where the Imperial Army was based.

"This is the Imperial Guard, this is the Imperial Guard HQ, we read you loud and clear."

As Beasley's group was preparing to enter into communication with Maximillian and the Imperial Guard, the rebels were moving closer to the capital, getting ready for the upcoming final battles. The rumours were becoming true, soon the rebels would be fighting in the capital, in what would be the final battle of this conflict.

Also, Cornelius Weaver (a politician who I have just brought in), who was well known for trying to prevent the conflict and other government leaders were in a meeting, trying to plan a course of action, one that the government would take in case of a rebel attack on the capital.

------------------------------------
OOC: These are excerpts from the "Northwest Declaration", in which Maximillian accepts the Khyzerian throne and the title of "Emperor of Khyzeria", along with other things as well.

"That a full pardon shall be given to all citizens who have fought against those seeking for the reformation of the nation, and to those government leaders who have done no wrong. However, we do not extend the pardon to a select few of government leaders, nor to those regicides who unlawfully executed the monarch, save those who tried to prevent it."

"That all Acts of Parliament having been written in the course of the existence of the current government, will be declared null and void, upon the government's collapse, and that the monarchy shall be restored to its full rights (and shall be brought back) as shall be the Parliament and citizens."

The Count read the news for the day from Khyzeria, and having heard little indication from the rebels decided to appeal the Emperor:

"We should send something to them or else make our professed aid to them seem hollow and empty. Such methods are not fitting for the virtuous state."

It took some time for a positive reply to be elicited, but even then, he was only authorized to send material unilaterally. It was enough for him, and he sent a message to the Khyzerian rebels:

I have received permission to send the following equipment to your assistance. It is not much, but seeing some resurgence by the corrupt forces, I believe it is necessary to make these commitments known to your people. With your permission, we may arrange their shipment as soon as possible.

:::

350 JJC-97 tanks
350 BJC-89 APC
350 BJC-87 IFV
50 GSP-30 AA guns
10 DSA-130 MLRS systems
24 MJSG-99 attack helicopter

::

I hope that these equipment will prove to be useful to your efforts. Pending your approval, they will arrive in your nearest port city within one week. I am also arranging a covert operation to recruit friendly volunteers from our land to provide an additional 1000 troops to your country in defense of the virtuous excellence of civilization in your lands. I cannot guarantee much, but if this passes with enough time, I may send the volunteers with the equipment.

Count Yu received the affirmative reply and made the news public. He began recruiting volunteers to fight the war on behalf of the rebels in all of Han, and made the orders to the AICC for the equipment to be ready for shipment. He reported to the Emperor of his actions in support of the rebels - "They are preparing for some offensive, and I believe with even this small support not even the Heavens could stifle their power. We must be ready to send the Han to their aid."

The Emperor regarded the report with some optimism but remained steadfast in his vows: "The Han will not fight for their liberation, but if the volunteers seek to do so in their own benefit, we shall honor them."

A Letter to Count Yu from the Rebels:

"Count, it would be helpful if your nation's volunteers can assemble in the Northeast region of Khyzeria. They will be helpful in our struggle against the government and we thank you, Count and your nation for your services and assistance."

The Count offered the following reply:

I have received your welcome letter, and I appreciate the gratitude. His Majesty has emphatically confirmed the Han Empire's support for your people, and while he holds back the tide of Han soldiers, I am pleased to inform you that we have already surpassed our original expectations to invite 1000 volunteers. The local Hwarang militias in Gwangdong have volunteered to go to war on your behalf, bringing our number to 2400. I shall wait to send them as they train for the trip ahead.

I have further received your instructions on their deployment, and I am curious as we make preparations to ship the equipment at the same time. The Hwarang commanders have agreed that if an assault upon the Northeast of the country is to be attempted, the best location to commence such an assault would be from the city of Glen (?). Please inform us if this is possible. Otherwise, I will inform them that such an operation is feasible.

I have contracted the Hanjin Merchant Fleet to transport the materials to your country within one week. They will be a small fleet of ships - 2 tankers, 3 patrol craft and 2 submarine. I need assurance that the local fleets will not harass our transports - otherwise, we may have to consider a naval intervention as the most pertinent for the moment. Additionally, owing to the large distance from our lands to yours, we will require local supplies in food for our volunteers; we are willing to arrange the purchase of food from your local people, paying double the market rate in your country to supply these foods until we can supply our own food. We also will be shipping enough munitions to supply the equipment provided for two months at best, so I look forward to naval control of the Northeast Corridor.

I also have questions of the aerial war in Khyzeria. The offer includes some anti-aircraft guns, which I assume will be put to good use. But aside from these, I need to know if these supplies will not be harassed by aerial fighters from the enemy forces. Otherwise I may have to consider sending more than our simple naval flotilla.

I anxiously await your reply.

OOC: Sorry about the disappearance, RL stuff came in the way

IC: The Imperial Troops were exhausted; they had been marching for five days now and a sixth day of marching was almost upon them. For the last five days all the troops had been merely ascending the side of the steep plateau that came between their base on the beach and the border of the East-Central Region - they were not even half way to their destination and the signs of weariness were upon them.

They had been following a river (OOC: Pleslaca on the map) to ensure that fresh water was maintained; yet that river had become a stream and was now gone. Fresh water was now going to be a struggle. The troops sat down, prepared to make camp and make do with what they had. After the chaplains had said grace with the troops, snow started falling on the troops; it was going to be a bitterly cold night.

The next morning, the Imperial Army awoke, the ground covered in snow, themselves completely and utterly freezing. No-one would dare have a drink, as the water was so cold it numbed the body. Breakfast was a cold mix of bacon rinds, cheese and beans mixed together. Then, camp was packed up and the troops marched again.

The views were extremely bleak, snow, ice and a continuous flat plain. The only thing that lifted the soldier's spirits was the sight of a river valley (OOC: Umanoi Basin on the map); however, that was certainly some distance away. At about lunchtime, the troops came upon a group of bodies.

"Looks like rebels Sir, the bodies have been here for about three days, whoever did this is long gone."

"Yes, we must press on though, we cannot afford to dawdle"

"Yes Sir"

The troops continued on and by nightfall, they had covered another thirty miles. The troops made camp and attempted to get what nourishment and sleep they could. They were exhausted and the final battle was yet to occur.

Day Seven

The troops of the Imperial Army awoke and they were freezing. Commodore Beasley had a decision to make; whether it was worth it continuing on with the vehicles and horses or not. The vehicles were chewing up valuable fuel; while the horses were starving. Even though they were only at 3000 feet above sea level; the chances of getting aircraft here were slim; the government would still easily shoot them down and then there was the need to form runways, and with all the snow and ice about, that would be a difficult job and would use valuable time.

Commodore Beasley did notice the worsening condition of his troops and the need to conserve food supplies; they had only taken five days worth of food and had not expected the journey was going to take that far or be over such unfavourable terrain; it was already the seventh day of the march and their rations had been cut twice. Of course there was no chance for local food to be taken; feeding three quarters of a million troops was a massive exercise in logistics. He decided that some of the grain, oats and barley could be conserved if the horses were shot - it was decided that whatever the horses were hauling would be thrown in the vehicles and if it did not fit, then it would be left behind.

Nothing could be left behind though; every item that had come up the hill served some purpose and it was decided that the troops were to carry even more items. Beasley hoped that by the time he reached the East-Central border that his troops would be able to form an airfield and supplies would arrive to prepare his troops for battle.

The sound of gunfire echoed throughout the plateau, accompanied with the neighs of horses being put out of their misery. By the end of that morning, the weakest horses were dead and their carcasses had been chopped up and frozen using whatever snow and ice was available. The strongest were to survive to haul whatever was needed.

The Imperial Army continued their slow march and the troops could not help but notice how desperate they were; the flag at the front had been badly torn courtesy of strong winds; the troops were barely able to keep themselves warm; it did not help that the temperature remained barely above freezing the entire day. Commodore Beasley was himself thinking about what was happening back home; he always carried an image of his wife and children on him wherever he was and it seemed to always keep him going whenever he took it out. He reached into his officers jacket pocket (OOC: Officers in the Imperial Army wear black uniforms similar to what used to be worn in the Royal Navy) and took the picture out and sighed, put it back and continued on.

The terrain remained bleak and the seventh day came to an end. The exhausted troops enjoyed their meal of a single bowl of horse meat, oats, potatoes and cheese mixed together; and they went to sleep

Day Eight to Ten

A blizzard had come up overnight and the mercury had dived even further. It was so cold now that the troops were simply unable to sleep. The troops awoke the next morning tired, cold and hungry, and they were unable to move, the blizzard had them trapped in their camp until the middle of the afternoon. It was however imperative that they move toward the border of the East-Central region.

The view had started to change though. The view of bleak mountains had given way to a view of gorgeous valleys which would ultimately culminate in a series of lakes (OOC: Letlari on the map). For many of the troops, it reminded them of the St. Pius valley in the Western most isle of the Empire; a marvellous jewel. Commodore Beasley could not help but think that a land with so much beauty had to go through so much; losing their Emperor, the brutal massacre of the Royal Family and a war tearing them apart. The troops could not help but marvel at the view.

The ninth day was a steady march with more of the same, however, the valley view had disappeared by the end of the ninth day - the troops, after ten horrid days were almost at their destination. It then came as a relief when on the tenth day Commodore Beasley shouted

"Pitch camp right here."

It was a perfect place, a stream came from the mountains above to supply the troops with fresh water; it was low enough in altitude that the troops would not need to freeze, and there was enough flat land for the construction of an airstrip. The Imperial Army had reached the border of the East-Central region.

You might boast that your entire country is basically an army, but you also need to have a professional workforce to supply and finance that army, which detracts either their professional military tact or their labor effectiveness. In any case, that means enemies that really want to do so can invade your country and do as they please until your troops decide to return home (if they return home - no IC threats nonetheless). So while I'm not saying it's a godmod yet, I would strongly encourage you to change your mind about the number by a large proportion (my personal involvement is probably going to be 5000 max, unless something like this stirs my attention otherwise) to something on the range more reasonable to an intervention and to your country's comfortable capabilities. On the other hand, if you really are planning an invasion of Khyzeria, that gives my soldiers ample room for experience and a good reason to be friends with Khyzeria ^^

Count Yu, having received no replies from the Khyzerian rebels decided that sending the ships would save time and costs for a later delivery. He could patch the information on the final destination in mid trip, as long as the flotilla captains had ample time to plot a course. Otherwise, complications might arise during the volunteer campaign.

Count Yu was somewhat confused by the report. The equipment was ready to ship out, but now he had conflicting destinations. He made a quick reply:

OOC: Can you send the equipment to the Northeast? Thanks.

Count Yu received the message and relayed it immediately to the flotilla captains. They carefully plotted their course to Glen. Having no worries from enemy aircraft or naval vessels, the flotilla had great expectations to arrive safely into the city, where the equipment could be disseminated to the Khyzerian rebels and the Hwarang volunteers, numbering at 5000, could join the struggle. They were led by a former Army commander, Hwang Sunweon (황순원 [黃順元]), who organized the 5000 men into 5 operating battalions - 1 combat infantry, 1 using armored and mobile using excess tanks and IFVs given to the Khyzerians, 1 acting as communications, 1 acting as support and logistics, and 1 serving as the command unit. During the voyage, every volunteer was trained to use assault rifles, as well as to use their vehicles. They were trained for the duration of the voyage, which was rather short considering their prior experience, but hopefully, Hwang hoped to mold the volunteer force into an effective unit that could turn the balance against the corrupt government forces.

ooc: they will land in the next post, along with your equipment

Almighty God, acknowledging that at your hand battles are won or lost; we seek your favourable hand in our battle today. Lord, we pray for thy guidance; may our generals and those in authority devise tactics that will enable us victory without heavy losses. Lord, we pray for your hand to be on our weapons; may their aim be excellent and may they neither jam nor backfire. Lord, we pray that this battle can be conducted with honour, with dignity, and following all the proper rules of war. We pray that this battle does not result in heavy casualties. This through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour, Amen

The Imperial Army was lined up and following the service that had been said before every single battle in the two centuries since the Empire had gained independence. For the first time in thirty years, those words were being echoed through a camp.

The skies overhead were covered with the screams and smell of birds; they were going to have a feast this evening. The sun had barely risen over the cold valley; the day was going to be very clear; hopefully the Imperial Air Force fighters that were still in the North-West would be able to help defeat Cebumopolis’ Army.

Commodore Beasley had been attempting to get information about his foe since initial reports of a mass army movement had been heard the night before. Then, just before breakfast, a message came through

“TOP SECRET

We have established that the forces of Cebumopolis that are in your area number approximately one and a quarter million. We are presuming that most of them are inexperienced conscripts, although we can not be sure. Information about vehicles or air forces is unknown, although it is assumed that they are well armed in this regard”

“Shit! We only have three quarters of a million troops here; they outnumber us by nearly two to one and they are probably better equipped too.”

Beasley exhaled; chances were that the Imperial Army was going to be defeated today. Beasley knew that he had to keep his men’s hopes up, however, he would have to emphasise one of the Imperial Army’s pre-battle traditions – the Writing of the Wills.

As the troops ate a more comfortable breakfast, Commodore Beasley arose and made a speech

“We band of brothers, we stand at the threshold of history. As many of you know, today we are to do battle against Cebumopolis, and of course tradition must be maintained – we are to do the Writing of the Wills; I have a transport plane ready to lift off with them as soon as you are done. Today we stand on the threshold of history – if we are victorious, then it is almost certain that our enemy, the allies of regicides that murdered a lawful monarch, will be defeated and what is right and honourable will be restored. Even if we are defeated, then let the people back in the Empire know that we made a stand; let the voices of the people from Wakefield District, the Linwood District, the Birkenhead District and the Mt. Domet District shout the names of the brave men that stand here today. We fight for the Empire, we fight for the rightful government of Khyzeria. Men, it is time.”

The Writing of the Wills was always an excruciating process; Beasley was always prepared and spent this time writing two letters; one to his wife and children, and the other to his superior officers, outlining what had happened in the campaign so far. With tradition completed, the army prepared for battle.

Flags were being taken, both national and regimental. The troops were being armed and a skeleton group left to defend the camp and ensure that the newly formed air base was still operational. They marched out and within the hour had come across their numerous enemy – today was going to be the day where the Imperial Army was going to do battle with Cebumopolis, a nation that supported regicides.

The scene was tense; there had been no sightings of any enemy in the last hour. The flags of the Empire were still flapping, albeit now more slowly - the sun was slowly rising to its peak in the sky, and the troops were sitting there.

Meanwhile, Commander McEwen was sitting in one of the vehicles of the Imperial Army, watching for any action on the radar screen, when all of the sudden, the north-eastern part of the screen turned green - the enemy was approaching. He looked through another screen and noticed a line of tanks in the distance

"Shit, frecking tanks - they will have us pulverised. How soon would they came Serge?"

"Sir, if they are any good, they will be within striking range in five minutes."

"Well, get out there and signal to the troops that tanks are approaching, we are going to need the anti-tank weapons ready."

"ANTI-TANK DIVISIONS PREPARE FOR FIRE"

The Cebumopolis tanks were approaching the Imperial Army, and then came fire. The tanks were hitting the Imperial Troops, although they were not being too successful due to the distance involved. The Anti-Tank divisions were sparse; no-one had expected an enemy with tanks, however, they were a very strict bunch and started firing back against the enemy.

"Sir, it looks like we got a few"

"KEEP FIRING"

"YES SIR!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile, in the skies above a reconaissance jet was flying over, and the AA gun alarm sounded in the cockpit

"Bollocks, get her into evasive manoeuvres and fly back to base urgently."

"This is Imperial Air Force reconaissance jet APR-436578 alerting troops on the ground that hostiles have AA guns; I repeat, hostiles have AA guns"

"Roger that"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The message got through to the battlefield rather quickly. Thankfully, modern communications were in place throughout the Imperial Army. Commodore Beasley thought for a second, and changed the battle objectives. It was no longer going to be simply beating an enemy, it was going to be to get rid of those AA guns.

Commander McEwen was watching the scene outside as the enemy tanks were being blown to pieces, however, another sight distracted him

"Artillery; frecking artillery"

"Sir, can we get these things?"

"Serge, get the vehicles lined up and ready to fire - signal the troops to fall back. It is our moment"

"YES SIR!"

However, the troops were not falling back quickly enough and the enemy artillery had started firing; several lines of troops were blown, although soon enough the Imperial Army vehicles had managed to get some fire against the enemy, and Commander McEwen was pleased

"Those bastard regicides are being blown to kingdom come; we are about to get them"

Just as soon as he said that; the skies were filled with helicopters and more tanks arrived; the signals soon changed from fall back to prepare for aerial attack. The Mackenzie Corp were lined, rockets at the ready to fire against the helicopters. Meanwhile the anti-tank units were firing at the enemy.

Commodore Beasley looked at the scene in front of him and thought - "just as I expected; a numerically superior army that is well equipped. At least we are sending the bastards to kingdom come."

This was coming at a cost though, already troops had perished on the field and Commodore Beasley would have to write a letter to each of their families.

"Our troops are right here, we only have about 5000 or so soldiers here, the enemy is all the way in the East-Central region."

Commander Hwang looked at the map and turned to the Khyzerian.

"I have had experience in martial training, and while I don't intend to take over your forces, I do hope that we can cooperate with each other. I only have 5000 troops that need more training; your have 5000 troops whose discipline is not yet revealed to me. Together, we are 10,000; but I need to know if we can work together. Before we move west, I want to coordinate organization of your forces to ensure that this region is secure. Otherwise, we will need to call for more troops from other regions.

"You mentioned that the enemy is situated in the East Central Region; how many men do they possess? Is there a threat of ambushes from the Northeast? How much combat have your men seen since the start of the conflict? Are the enemy aware of Han involvement? And of the equipment that you have received, will your men be able to handle the equipment, or will they need instruction on how to use them? If we get questions settled adequately, I believe that we can reserve tomorrow's activities to morale support and mutual acknowledgment - your soldiers and my soldiers shall meet together and become friends before we march into battle and become brothers. If all goes well, we may tremble the mountains with our presence.

"If all is well, our primary route will lie along the Zein River with the largest concentration of enemy forces opposite the river bank along our route. After our reconnoiters, I will determine how many troops will march forward and how many will remain back to secure our rear and supplies."

"We are disciplined soldiers who have fought many battles but were told to stay here and protect this area from enemy attack. This region is secure, there is no need to worry about attack from an enemy who has no power in this region."

"The East-Central region is heavily fortified, massive armies await us there. There is no threat of ambushes from the Northeast because the government is mostly restricted to the East-Central region. The enemy is probably aware of Han involvement. We are sure we can use the equipment, but there may be a few who just need a bit of assistance in how to do so."

"There have been rumors of strong government groups around the East-Central region border but as for the Zein River area, it is a possibility the enemy has some positions there."

Hearing this from the Khyzerian leader, Hwang drew a line on the map indicating his intended path.

"I will leave behind 1000 of my men here with the main garrison. It would be useful if you could help us and bring 3000 of your contingent, leaving the remaining 2000 here. I understand that you may have apprehensions, but if this enemy is strong will need as many men as possible. And it is also unwise to divide our forces in such stagger proportions, so I hope that by your permission, we may do this and reduce the disparity. Tomorrow, after your and my troops have met together, we will prepare the lines to advance into the country. I will also send a cable back to Hangyeong, asking them to send more volunteers, as we will need them in this war. Also, it would be beneficial if you could ask your generals to send more men to support our actions as we cut the enemy from their stronghold. Otherwise, it will be 7000 against whatever they have.

"But if you have other orders and I cannot persuade you otherwise to help us help you, then I will make the lines ready to advance tomorrow."

This happen several days before thw imperial and republican army clashed
in a small town just several miles away from the front a small imperial garrison's the town when...

The pistols cold steel lay heavy in his hands, its barrel staring him in the eye, its hollow shadows cutting into his depths. -"Defilade, left 11 ‘oclock, range 500 --!"
-"Incoming!"

On his table, his squads picture, all smiles, their glistening tanks in the background. The Sergeant had him in a headlock.

"Dammit, they got the sarge! The hellre you doing? Shoot--!"

It was their first and their last picture together, the search team finding the Sarges Goliath charred wreckage after the encounter.

He was buried in a jar.

Below this picture, his medal, the Iron Cross, glistening in the dim light of his quarters, a notary of his promotion to Captain, resting under it.

"The hell cant we just run?"

"We leave, the regicides go for the locals! You want that on your hands!?"

Corporal Halifax, just Hal to the squad.

A ladys man, albeit the looks with his freckles and beady eyes.

His was Catapult leaning on the community halls East wall, along with the rest of the team, all encircling the hall.

Being the sturdiest structure in the commune, hed ordered the locals evacd there, his firing heard until hours before their reinforcements arrived. SABOT shells cut through the vehicles armor. Hal got a closed casket ceremony.

He was found a little after Hal, his tank knocked out sometime in the firefight.

It was the cold, piercing rain that woke him as the engineers cut away at his stricken armor, the same cold rain that loomed overhead as he asked them about the Sarge, Hal, and their team.

All he heard was the steady drizzle that had engulfed him with a bone-chilling mist, as he saw medics carry away 9 body bags. They were a 10-man team.

The chill came back to him now, starting from the steel in his palms, as he sat there.

Why were they there, a backwater commune the Union had forgotten in the annals of their colonizations?

Why couldnt he see the shot that killed the Sarge?

Why couldnt they just run?

"Why?"

His finger barely clasping the trigger, he hears a knocking on the door.

Grumbling, he hides the gun under his pillow, and opens the door.

Its a girl in her twenties, her earthen clothes
and her nervous fidgeting tells him shes not local.

Her earrings.
They consist of feathers and gems carefully inlaid in sinew.

It was Hals handiwork,
Hal often pestering him of a new "catch" in that commune.

He remembered her,
and the scent of sweet earth she had about her.

"Th-they said Id find you here."

"State your business."
He said, letting her in.

"Im sorry if Im interrupting anything. Ill be quick."

She tells him of their very first upcoming harvest festival, and how she was sent to invite him to the celebration."

She tells him a story, of a patrol transferred to their community, and how the soldiers, with hulking War vehicles, left the locals uneasy.

She tells him of a story of how over time, the commune and patrol dispelled their anxieties, the soldiers immersing themselves in the trappings their farming folk offered.

The story told of battle, of their refusal to retreat, that the locals may survive the Cebumopolans mysterious action. It told of their bitter end.

The story continued.

"Weve tried to harvest there for awhile now, with little success."

The story told of a village, touched by their sacrifice, and their refusal to leave for more fertile lands.

"Why?"

"The land is part of us. Had we left, your groups blood, now part of that land,
would have amounted to nothing."

She said, as tears welling up in her eyes.

"So we worked on those fields…"

He was given a bread loaf kept hidden in her robes.

"…until it finally bore fruit. Its the first out of the oven,
our very first harvest. Please, take it."

"Were thankful for you to be alive. Now, we can share our harvest with a friend.
We ask you to come in their stead."

Looking back at his gun, he looks at the bread.

He placed the bread beside the picture, and slumped
on the bed, looking out the window to see the rain clouds in the sky above.

She watched in curious silence.

Rain was coming, and with it memories of the day he lost his team, and marked the day a community would find its own will to survive.

Somehow, their actions that day, the cold rain, and the haunting memories…

They finally meant something.

He looked at her, still waiting for his reply, and glanced at the pistol under his bed…

"When did you say this festival was again?"

Commodore Beasley was watching the scene, when suddenly he got a message

"TOP SECRET

The Brighton division has been captured while attempting to take out an AA position. The colours appear to have been dishonoured; troops in that sector are in full retreat; the enemy appears to be withdrawing."

"Thank Goodness"

Before long, the battle scene was quiet again; the wreckage of enemy tanks and helicopters littered the battlefield. Some of the enemy had been captured from their vehicles are were under the careful watch of the Mt. Alexandra division and their commanding officer, Commander Alvin Reegan.

Commander Reegan was to have the honour of questioning the enemy about all that they knew; he was expressly forbidden by army regulations from torturing the troops, but he was known for being able to get his way quite easily without having to resort to anything nasty. However, more important things were at hand.

The bodies of the dead were to be collected; all in all, they numbered 1843; with some 4000 injured. However, more urgently was the fate of the Brighton division - they had been captured by an unknown enemy that would use any tactic to try and pry information. The situation had changed, the Imperial Army would have to move; the codes would have to be switched and everything would need to be realtered. The tables were turning.

Imperial Army Camp

Commander Reegan went inside the vehicle in which the enemy troops were held; all twenty-two of them. He noticed an ordinary soldier

"Get that one on the left out"

"YES SIR!"

Commander Reegan and the enemy soldier went to his tent, where to everyone's surprise, he brought out two china plates; and then a silver platter with a chocolate cake on it. It was going to be time to question the soldier.

Reegan was famous for being able to convince soldiers to talk; his primary tactic was to be kind to them. While most soldiers are trained to resist torture, how many soldiers are trained to resist kindness? He always ensured that he had a cake and some tea when he was questioning a soldier; he would make it as civilised an affair as possible - he knew that something would slip; they would see the error of their ways and view the Imperial Army as good, give them what they wanted. Reegan would often refer to his prisoner as Sir, or some title of honour; and he would always select one of the lower ranked troops for questioning first.

Reegan sat down and opened the conversation

"Here Sir, have some cake; how many sugars do you like in your tea?"

"Two"

"We found this in your tank; you have a beautiful family and a beautiful home, seeing this picture actually brought tears to my eyes Sir; I thought of my two boys, they are probably sitting in some class, worrying what on earth has happened to me"

The conversation continued for some time, the comments becoming more and more deep and meaningful. Eventually a map of the area came out

"My dear Sir, where was your camp; perhaps we can work out some sort of exchange or something to get you home - your family miss you very much no doubt, mine certainly do."

The soldier marked the map with a cross

"Don't worry, we will get you home, we will get your companions home as well; and you see, we are not as bad as you think"

Commander Reegan got out of his tent, while the enemy soldier returned to the vehicle where he was to be kept. The camp site was a busy scene, everyone was preparing to move out, when all of the sudden

"What the hell, why are the sirens going off?"

The enemy was attempting to get at them again; Commodore Beasley was highly annoyed

"All troops, prepare anti-artillery fire; blast the lot of em to Kingdom Come"

The enemy was soon in retreat, whatever was left of them; a good proportion of the artillery and remaining battalions of tanks and infantry were lying on the battlefield, and Commodore Beasley was thinking.

"It is time to show these bastards a lesson"

Commodore Beasley selected four soldiers; Private Bradley, Private Burton, Private Cunningham and Private Wilson. They had a very important mission

"I want you to infiltrate the enemy camp, listen, learn, do not talk unless necessary. I need you to find out what is happening with the Brighton Division and where the enemy's key installations are. I will have a small group of soldiers meet you here, in the hills five miles from here tomorrow at 0400 hours; they will ask you

Imperial Army Camp

Commodore Beasley was sitting in his tent, typing away, typing the letters that he would be sending to the families of the troops that had died in the battles that had occurred so far; when all of the sudden, Commander Reegan walked in

"Permission to speak Sir!"

"Permission granted, what is the matter"

"I just spoke to one of the enemy lieutenants (OOC: prounounced lef tenant, in the British style) and they said that they were planning to attack our main base in the North West; perhaps we need to do something Sir"

"Commander, we will do something, we will do absolutely nothing; dismissed"

"Yes Sir!"

Commodore Beasley had a plan, most of the North-West troops would mix with the rebels and Prince Maximillian's Army, while the planes would be further evacuated. He would leave a few fighters there, as well as a few hundred bodies that had been gathered over the last few weeks. He would let them have the base, however, the base would be useless; all the important stuff would be taken. To make matters more interesting, footage would be gathered of the enemy, to improve the intelligence that the Empire had on their mysterious enemy.

Meanwhile, in the radio room, the radio technicians were still trying to frantically decipher the enemy code; the code breakers had been working for the last few days, when suddenly a message came through in simple non-coded language

"Surrender or face my new toy's :)"

The message was rushed to Commodore Beasley who was now sitting in his tent.

"What new toys are they thinking of? This appears like a message written by a child..."

"Of course Sir, they are all children; Reegan is having a field day collecting information; the transcripts are already two hundred pages thick - the typists room is going overboard. I have never seen such an idiotic enemy before..."

"Don't count your chickens before they are hatched. We have only defeated part of them; they number one and a quarter million, we number three quarters of a million"

"Of course Sir"

"I think it is time for us to up the anti a little; bring in our new toys. Get me a typist."

"Yes Sir!"

The Imperial Army was a very interesting force; they would bring administrative staff along with them to record all important matters; the force included some twenty typists.

"Sir, you wanted a typist?"

"Yes, I want you to type this message to the children that are the Cebumopolis Army. I'll begin off"

To whom it may concern,

We received your message seeking our surrender or that we would face your "new toys" as you referred to them. I would like to let you know right now that the Empire will refuse to surrender to your army. Let me outline my reasoning;

The Armed Republic of Cebumopolis is a nation of 45 million; the last time I checked, that was the population of the City of Alexandria, the second largest city in the Empire. Indeed, asking us to surrender would be akin to an ant asking an elephant to surrender. Our nation of nearly seven billion is like that elephant and your nation of 45 million is like that ant. Even if my force is defeated, we can still send millions more troops against you. We can even invade your homeland if we so wish.

We have shown you our forces capability in two battles already, dozens of your vehicles litter the No Man's Land between our camp and yours. I do grant that we have lost some troops, however, this is like a drop in the ocean, nothing for us to worry about - there are always more troops in the Empire. However, how many more troops could you seriously muster up? A further million? It reminds me of a story I once read about; a nation went to war with its two neighbours, neighbours that were very large. Their defeat was so severe that it took them nearly a century and a half to recover. Their male population was completely decimated. Of course, that is what will happen to your nation if you continue at this madness.

Of course, I would also like to emphasise that you are supporting regicides; that is right, people that murder monarchs. Now, I believe that you do not have a monarch, however, how would you feel if your head of state was murdered by an illegal leader? I doubt that you would feel pleased and you would want to bring that illegal leader to justice. That is what the Empire is in this land for; to ensure that those regicides are brought to justice. We are not here to occupy, we are here to liberate.

We advise that you either surrender or that you switch sides.

Signed,

Commodore David Beasley
Head of the Imperial Army Police Force to Khyzeria

Not long afterward, Commodore Beasley heard that the old North-Western base had fallen. He was pleased, as they had fallen for his trap. Now, it was to bring in a new toy and a completely different strategy. He opened his book, the Northern Wars, and started reading Chapter 9 - The Battle of Ohaeawai.

The rebel leader contemplated Hwang's plan in his mind for a bit and then responded like so:

"We would not mind giving you our assistance in your plan, which I think is quite acceptable. The stronghold of the enemy is the entire East-Central region, reports say they may have some positions on the Southeast-East Central border, it is a possibility they say. It would be a good idea to get more volunteers, they would be quite helpful. We will see if our generals can send more soldiers over, how much do you think we will need from them? You have my permission to divide our groups in stagger formations also."

OOC: I believe Cebumopolis meant my forces (i.e. the Alexandrian Forces) when he said Imperial Army. I think we are going to have to clear this up; personally I would say that Maximillian's Forces would be best described as the Imperial Guard, and my forces referred to as the Imperial Army. Of course, as it is your roleplay Khyzeria, I don't mind any solution of yours

IC: Imperial Army Camp

The new Imperial Army Camp was best described as a construction site; Commodore Beasley's new plan was to lure the enemy to the camp, and trap them in a labyrinth of tunnels, bunkers and trenches. Of course, they would have to beat a huge amount of fire first and palisades designed to deflect artillery fire. He knew that it was no longer numbers that counted, but tactics also. The position and design would be to the advantage of the Imperial Army and to a very strong disadvantage to the enemy.

Just as Beasley was inspecting the construction work; a messenger was seen in the distance. They were very rapidly brought to a halt before they could see anything secret and delivered a message to Commodore Beasley - a video tape from the Cebumopolis Army.

Beasley began to watch it and could not help but laugh. He had to watch it again with all the officers in his tent.

"Look here Commander, they say the last few days armies have been rebel conscripts; more like idiots if you ask me."

"Of course Sir, and to suggest that they could bring up even more troops is laughable; and quality - I had the engineers look over their tanks and they said they appeared to be and I quote "of a quality found in a Communist country.""

"I found this rich Commander - "And you say your population is close to a billion? Hog wash..." In fact, they can add illiterate to their list of qualities - we have a population of close to seven billion; we could muster an army consisting of 1% of our population, kill one of them for every loss of ours, and we would still have an army left at the end"

"This is the richest bit Sir - the picture of all the dead bodies and nuclear weapons."

"Commander, it is time to fight fire with fire"

Video Message to the Cebumopolis Armed Forces

*background music: Beethoven's Seventh Symphony

"Good morning; I am Commander Reegan, many of your troops would probably know me by now; I have been covered with blood due to the number of fingers and toes that I have had to cut off to get information - hear the screams of your fellow troops in the background"

*sounds of torture made by bored Imperial Army troops

"Yet you still dare to defy the Imperial Army? You showed us a video of the nation of Lovoka - a nation that you claimed to have destroyed. It was an ideal movie indeed; that will be the fate of your forces if you do not submit. His Majesty and His Majesty's Government would certainly enjoy a few more hectares to be added to Imperial Territory. If you do not believe us, perhaps a few clips will help you"

*background music: Strauss' Blue Danube Waltz

"See the beautiful blue sea; that mountain in the background is about ten miles away from the camera. That is Mount George Helios, a mountain six thousand feet tall. It literally descends right to the sea. Notice the massive number of vessels; there must be three-thousand of them - that was a naval exercise with only a tenth of our vessels. See the power that they display as their guns fire with a warmth so radiant that a vessel moving by a minute has burnt sailors, burnt from the warmth of the guns."

*background music: Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries

"Now notice the roaring power of our Air Force - you see a mere fraction of it; but we hope that what you are about to see will haunt you. This was a nuclear test conducted forty years ago; it may have been a long time ago, but technology has only improved since then. See as the button is pressed to drop the bomb, and how a mere thirty seconds later, the bomb goes off. It is a bomb capable of destroying everything in a one hundred mile radius and destroying most things in a five hundred mile radius. Today we have bombs with twice the power"

*background music: Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture

"Now notice as the army marches on His Majesty's Birthday; if you notice carefully, the building on the corner is the George Helios Tower; a building some three hundred metres tall. Notice how many troops there are; hundreds of thousands. This is a mere fraction of our army; forty million full-timers, and four hundred million reservists. This is an army that would conquer your nation as a snack"

*background music: Tchaikovsky's Waltz of the Flowers (part of the Nutcracker Suite)

"We hope that you have enjoyed our presentation. We certainly hope that you realise the power that the Empire holds and that you will not dare defy us. Indeed, we hope that you will co-operate, perhaps as a subject nation? Or something along those lines. We also would like to get some facts for you

- The Empire is a nation of nearly seven billion. I believe that your illiteracy is getting to you and you did not notice the seven.

- You are supporters of regicides; regicide comes from the Latin word regis, meaning monarch and cide, the word for murder. As I said before, how would you feel if your president was viciously murdered? Or his family raped and murdered?

Thank you for watching this and have a good day; because your comrades certainly are....

Imperial Army Camp

Commodore Beasley was extremely annoyed - Private Cunningham was the only one of the four troops that he had sent to the enemy base that had returned.

"YOU SAID WHAT!"

"Sir, please, the girls name was Noelle, I don't know, but Private Wilson and the other two went with her and I believe they are"

"Yes, HURRY IT UP NOW"

"Dead Sir"

"MY BEST FOUR TROOPS AND ONLY ONE RETURNS"

"Please Sir, I did find out some interesting information."

"Yes, what did you discover?"

"I found out that our troops are being held prisoner in the enemy camp; they are not being all that well treated Sir; the sounds I heard will probably haunt me for the rest of my days. The soldier did tell us the right information though, their base was marked properly on the map, so that is one good thing. I couldn't find out much else, but I believe their President is in their camp."

"Their President? Now I know that we are facing idiots"

"I don't know, there is one tent that seems to be out of place; it is always highly guarded and only senior officers come in and out; it is not like your tent, I see officers, yes, but also ordinaries come in and out"

"No offence, Cunningham, but I wish that my tent were more like that; it is always a problem when I am trying to sleep and some private comes in"

"Agreed Sir"

"Well, I suppose that was worth it, even if I did lose three troops to a frecking female. At least I know the camp is located there, I have some outline of the area and I may be able to get their President. With the President gone, I may get a surrender."

Hwang looked at the troops. "Have your commanders send whatever they can afford. At minimum, I would consider about 15,000 soldiers, well equipped and prepared for battle. After this evening, I will send the cable home for more troops; hopefully, we will be ready to march tomorrow. I am glad to fight along with your people, and perhaps together we can end this."

Hwang departed to take care of his own troops for the night before sending another cable back home:

Honorable Count Yu Seongryong -

We have arrived on distant Khyzerian shores, and upon our arrival, I met with local forces. Together in our district, we number around 10,000. I did not anticipate having to bare the brunt of force in this campaign; instead, I find my role as the lead of our troops to aid the Khyzerians rather than support. While I have asked for 15,000 additional troops to support us, I do not think it will be sufficient to deliver a capable blow against the enemy. They lie in hills that are reputedly well defended.

If it is not too weary for His Imperial Majesty, I wish to have 25,000 Han troops or volunteers to our aid. If it is also not too weary for His Imperial Majesty, I wish to have portions of the Imperial Fleet to help support our actions against the enemy. The enemy has made no indication of naval activity, but with so few numbers, I feel that naval support will bolster our troops in Khyzeria already.
