Hey, I've never participated in an FT RP, and there seem to be a lot of them around, so can someone fill me in on the details of them? Like are there limits on ships? Is it more Halo style?

There are indeed limits on ships. The rule that most people follow on here is with your population. The most ships you can have for ones with average power is 1000 per billion. So if you have 350 million, you could have 350 average ships. However, there are two subsections to that rule.

One is if you want higher quality ships, what you do is willingly reduce the number of ships you have from the number you could have. I.e. A nation of 750 million usues 300 ships, instead of 750. This will increase the quality and strength of your ships at the cost of numbers.

Two is you get more ships than you could have but you sacrifice quality while doing so. I.e. Same nation has 1000 ships with 750 million population. This gives you more ships but less quality, making them more prone to being destroyed.

As for FT, to start off, find an idea for your nation and its tech. Be it Halo tech, Star Wars, Star Trek, Enders Game, etc etc, hell, even your own, find a tech you want to use and what your nation will be. Is it a dictatorship? A republic? An Imperium?

For an idea of what to do, click on my FT factbook link for an idea of what to make.

Finally, you are really new, so I would advise asking someone like Chronosia, Godular, Balrogga, or anyone who you see seems to be a good person who knows what they are doing and ask them to teach you the basics and help you make your nation.

And thats all I can think of, since you were a little vague with your questions.

Anything else?

There are 'systems' in place that regulate FT RP just as there are systems for P/MT RP. They're not perfect, or absolute, but people work with them anyway for the sake of simplicity.

One of the 'rules' you'll one into is the 1000 ships per billion population rule, those ships being of 'average' quality.

Your Destroyer = Someone else's in capability and power if you go against someone who also uses average ships. As you can tell, using more ships means yours are less powerful than average, just as using less means they are stronger. Though again, this is not absolute, or perfect.

People also wank till their cocks explode; it's something you have to learn how to deal with in FT because there is really no such thing as 'realism' unless you're well versed enough in physics to tell that something is just downright impossible.

If you need anything else, I'm free for the next few hours; just ask away.

Okay, now I"m starting to get it, so after I figure out how I want my nation, should I make a factbook?

You don't have to, but it helps you keep your thoughts organized and makes your concept more solid. I wouldn't make an actual factbook now, just work on the basics of it and work slowly from that. Otherwise you'll have a huge factbook of random information that you'll have to edit ad infinitum.

Dont worry; The language will come with time.

Conversely I RP as a nation engulfed in holy styles of life, the direct opposite of Chrono. I could help you with forming an identity for yourself.

A TG is a Telegram, done via your Nationstates Nation to his Nation. go to Nationstates, Click on the world, scroll down to the find nation field, type in Chronosia, click find nation. It will take you to his page. Make sure your logged into your nation while you do this.

At the bottom of Chronosia's Nation page will be a box that gives you the option of typing in a message and sending it to Chronosia. when he logs in to his nation he'll read it, and will probably at the very least TG you back.

Just make sure your polite an you ask for his help, not demand it.

While asking for the older ones are a good way to get started, once you are familiar its best to try your own thing as soon as possible.

Indeed it is. Making an intro thread or making a plot is good, make a name for yourself.

Make your intro RP closed unless you want a huge swarm of idiots screwing it up.

Good advice..And one I intend to follow myself..When I finally finish writing that back story..*has now lost track of how many kb it's up to*

What do you mean by an intro RP?

What do you mean by an intro RP?
It is basically the first rp you make. Usually it involves some sort of back story, to explain why you got this technology, how your nation came to be, and such (although it's not a must)

And this is what I'm writing, basically..Tee hee, if I printed it, it'd be ten pages long, according to the print layout on open office writer..Think I may be overdoing it?

Okay, and if I make it closed how are people supposed to post in it? Would it be an invite only thing?

What I did for my intro was I got into one thread, made an friend or two then made my actual intro as an off shoot of the previous thread. That way I knew who I would want to participate with and those that would just ruin the thread. That seemed to be the easiest way for me at least. If you would like an example here it is.

And get MSN, so you can ask folks questions without having to start up a thread for it. Not that I've got anything against this thread, mind ya, its just that if you've read a goodly number of these RPs, whether MT or FT, one thing that seems universal is we tend to dislike OOC clutter.

If you can get an IM service like MSN or whatever, you can ask folks engaged in an RP with you various questions without overloading the thread with stuff that does not advance the plot.
