Discription of Fleets

Imperial Grand Fleet - Flagships of the nation. Mainly used for trips to other countries as a display of power. Rarely sees combat.

Home Defense Fleet - Patrols Delkorian home waters. Acts as 'coast guard' and last line of defense against naval invasion/attack.

Deployment Forces - These are the fleets sent oversees to defend Delkor's allies and/or interests.
Submarine Squadrons - Used as quick-response against threat forces. Can be deployed locally or internationaly. Mission profiles include anti-shipping and ICBM attack.

Classified Ships - Experimental designs that saw limited or no combat. Rarely leave Delkorian waters.

Training/Reserve Fleet - Older ships in storage. Some are used to train new crews for the fleet. Can be brought back to full combat status if needed.

OOC: I'm not a fan of carrier groups. Besides, everyone uses them! The battleships are for more 'show the flag' then anything. They do make an impressive display...

Those were tried in WWII, and held an amazing 4 turboprop fighter airplanes!:rolleyes:

Think about how larger jet fighters are now, and how you could squeeze even a squadron (8) fighters without making the submarine prohibitively 1) large 2) expensive 3) cumbersome and 4) defenseless. You'll end up with::headbang:

I seriously don't consider subma-carriers as a valid ship, unless you screw over every piece of armament you have. But maybe I'll be proven wrong.;)

You gotta admire how quickly they sink when they realize they will never get into gun range ;)

OOC: Ever stop to think that maybe there's a reason why? Pearl Harbor proved beyond a shadow of any doubt that aircraft carriers > battleships. Battleships may look scary but try parking them off the coast of anyone with a semi-competent navy and they won't be very scary once they're sunk.

They have some uses such as shore bombardment but they are absurdly expensive to build and operate. I only have a few old ones buried in mothballs somewhere, though I am thinking about getting some gun cruisers for shore bombardment purposes.

BBs are fine for scaring small nations, but expect to survive an encounter with anyone with a population of more than about 200 million. Even a small nations, if the player is a good RPer who's knowledable about naval warfare could hurt this force badly.
