I would like to learn how to trade on this game. Maybe you could give me some helpful hints or a link that leads to trade options, just anything would be useful.
Usually you just read up on the stickies posted. It's a roleplaying forums, so the limit is simply your imagination, and the [heavily bended] accepted laws of physics on this forum. It's not like most games where you can insert numbers and click buttons (though, I guess it is kinda like that if you're posting).
All I can recommend is read the stickies.
Well, first of all, you'll need to "design" your nation. What recources does your nation have? Is this country developed, developing, or underdeveloped? What is my economic policy, Capitalism, Communism, Socialism? What industries dominate the economy? Questions like this form your nation's economic backbone.
Once you've got your basic information in order, post a few threads for major companies, like "ACME Inc. Wants To Expand Into Your Nation!". Posts should have decent length, neat grammar, and a clean, attractive format. But I won't get into the elements of a post here. Once you have these threads up, you now have international companies.
That is just one way of trade. Naturally you assume you trade the most with your neighbors. You could post up a thread saying "Oil Deposit Auction". Nationstates is a free-form roleplaying forum, which means you trade how you want, but remember the cons of this: you may be knocked off as a godmodder, or simply ignored.
Hope this helps.
Firstly, there are several stickies on top of the forum. Please check them out.
Secondly, the trade items are pretty much just like in real life, oil, pearls, precious minerals, etc. Currently my biggest industry is Pizza sales... and I can't really find anyone who wants to trade in pizza  I have no idea why!.
Basically, it seems the best way to get attention is to post that you have something available, like weapons, gems, embassy's, etc. and let people come to you with offers. You can negotiate to get a better deal but if you are unreasonable people will back out. Other than that, its pretty simple. Read some of the other topics here to get an idea of how things are done and enjoy yourself!
Good luck from one noob to another.
