You have a large city? Write about it here. (You can also write about its tourist attractions.)

Sasha, Greal
Capital City
Popluation: 35 million
History:

The City was founded shortly after the Greal revoultion and The city became capital of the country in 1904. The city's main attractions are The Greal National Museum and the Black Cave zoo. The Sasha Metro System (SMS) in Sasha is one of the best in the world. The city has half of Greal's factories. (Of course, the factories are outside the city.)

Loom, Greal
2nd largest city
Popluation:25 million
History:

The city was the first city to be founded on Greal soil. Loom was the capital city from 1856-1886. Loom's main attractions are the Memorial hall to the Greal revoultion and the other attraction is The Loom Aquarium.
Kronstadtia
29-05-2007, 11:45
Kronstadtia was declared independent in 1978, when it broke out from the Soviet Union. It consisted the city of Leningrad, island of Kronstadt (the base of the Baltic Fleet, whose sailors were the main component of the revolution and war for independence) and most of Karelian Isthmus.

Nowadays, the whose isthmus is covered with the city. All of the population of Kronstadtia live in the city - St.Petersburg/Petrograd/Leningrad - nowadays Bakuningrad - for this really is a, well, city state :)

Way over 2 billion people.

Main attractors are its sheer size, Winter Palace and The Hermitage.
Maraque

Vakira City, Maraque

Vakira City is the largest (in square miles) and most populated city in the Democratic Elective Monarchy, with a size of 91,686 square miles and a population of 1,260,250,000 residing in the city, and another 315,062,500 living within the Vakira City Metropolitan Area.

The city was 'founded' around 1,800,000 BCE as a small agricultural village on the coast of the modern day province of Vakira, long before humans could even communicate with speech. Their sheer intelligence for the time led them to become of the most advanced civilizations in the world by the beginning of 500,000 BCE when most others were just beginning to learn. By 6000 BCE, it became a permanent settlement.

Fast forward 8,014 years and the city is now an enormous, bustling city of over 1.5 billion people, and arguably one of the wealthiest cities in the known world, with the average studio apartment in the crumbiest part of the city a staggering $2,474 per month and a median income in the range of $92,847 (NSD), nicely above the national median of $83,792 (NSD).

The city is the most diverse in the country, with 24% claiming to be of Latin descent, 25% claiming to be of European descent, 23% claiming to be native Maraquean, 12% claiming to be of Asian descent and 16% claiming to be of African descent. The largest group from any given continent/region is Mexico, Germany, United Arab Emirates, Japan, and Liberia. Maraqueans are an African-European mix, who originate from Liberia and Germany.

Quite possibly the most unique part of the city is its streets which are surprisingly convenient, having three lanes in each direction (there are no one way streets in Vakira City), the 'shoulder' lane being solely for parking, the outermost lane for turning, and the middle lane for passing. Double parking is not a problem, and if it is done it is strictly enforced with painful fines. The roads are maintained very vigorously and are repaved every few years, but it is not needed much because of the very hot and tropical climate.

Vakira City is also host to several hundred parks, boasting with pride as one of the 'greenest' cities in the world. The most popular, Sapphire Park in central Vakira City, is one of the Democratic Elective Monarchy's largest national parks at over 2,000 square miles. The park boasts some of the most incredible wildlife the country has to offer, including Sapphire Park Zoo, with the largest concentration of native Maraquean animals, such as the white pacific buffalo, the only buffalo known to live in a climate of nearly 130 degrees.

Unlike some cities, there are no suburbs of any kind in or around the city. The entirety of Maraque is completely urbanized and as such suburbs are something of a foreign concept to Maraqueans, except for the very few who live on the outskirts. Townhouses are even rare. Most Maraqueans live in apartments in vast buildings in the city centers around the shopping and dining districts, which are placed around each other in a central square near the commercial districts where most of the population works.

Vakira City is also best known for its tall buildings; there is not a single building in the city that is below 1,500 ft tall and the tallest building currently standing in the city is the tallest in the world to date at exactly 6,000 ft high. A taller building, Imperial Tower III, is being built at a height of 6,500 ft and will replace the Imperial Tower II as the tallest in the world. Previously the Imperial Tower I was the tallest at 5,900 ft.

Vakira City is home to the brunt of international and domestic corporations, with every single major corporation currently operating in the Democratic Elective Monarchy having a regional headquarters in the city. Together they employ almost a half of the total population of the city. The best known corporations are Lifewyze BioTech, Maraquean Communications, MaraAir, Maraque International Bank and the Anza Conglomerate.

Tourism is a very big industry for the city that brings in trillions of dollars in tax revenue. The city has a host of hotels that cater to all sorts of budgets from the ultra frugal to the super rich, with prices for the most basic of hotel rooms for $80, to $95,000 for the most extravagant palatial penthouse in all of the world.

Cuisine in the city is by far the best in the world. Since Vakira City is a world city, there is not a shortage of diverse food choices when you are here. From the most basic cheese burger and fries, to the most tasteful lasagna or chicken cordon bleu, there is something for everyone. The city has a whole district full of the world’s foods in one giant square.

Fashion is also a big business within the city. Like most fashion districts in Paris, New York, London, Vakira City is up there with the best, and sometimes even surpassing them to some. The world’s top designers all have some of their best stores here, and the biggest fashion show outside of New York and Paris is held here every year. Gucci, Prada, Fendi... it is all here and more, in Vakira City.

Some memorable landmarks are the Grand Imperial Palace, Vakira Stock Exchange, the Museum of Natural Art, the burial site of Maraque's founder His Royal Highness Absolute Excellency, King Tuan Lekan. Other landmarks include the Statue of Freedom, the Imperial Liberty Tower, and the four houses of Parliament.

The beaches of Vakira City are some of the most breathtaking views in the world, with its pristine white sands, its absolute turquoise waters, the exotic crab and other marine life are just some of the best things about it; Tropical paradise just feet away from a busy, bustling city with over a billion people.

The transportation system between districts and neighborhoods within the city is the fastest and most convenient in the region, with several hundred thousand MAGLEV trains arriving and departing at thousands of stations city wide every 15 minutes. The trains are high capacity three level trains that can carry as many as 1,800 per car.

Bus and taxi services are also very good, with handicapped accessible buses arriving and departing a bus stop every other corner. The double Decker buses can carry a passenger load of 160 and their luggage with ease. Taxis are everywhere, with a density of 130 taxis every square mile, and they too will go as far as you want them to at a cost of 20 schanz per minute.

Vakira City has one major airport; Vakira International Airport serves more than 600 million passengers per day and serves hundreds of airlines. The airport is only a 15 minute drive from the city center and has scores of hotels and other attractions close by as to be convenient for people coming as well as going.

The Phoenix Milita
30-05-2007, 01:09
Name: Phoenix
Function: National Capital(TPM)
Population: 15 million
Leader: Mayor Frank Pizzarone

The city of Phoenix is the capital city of The Phoenix Milita. It is located in the Territory Arizona, which once was the State of Arizona. Today Phoenix is home to most of The Phoenix Milita's federal government and many major businesses. Embassy row is about 1.5 miles from Phoenix International, the nation's busiest airport. Maglev trains, trolley cars and subways offer affordable mass-transit for the people, although automobiles remain popular (despite the high parking fees and "city driver tax" that goes along with them). High rise apartment complexes and office buildings dominate the skyline, and several sections of the city feature elevated road, train and walkways. Beneath the surface lies a complex subway system complete with underground businesses and entertainment facilities. The Bubble Dome is the one of the largest transparent domes in the world and houses a multi-function arena with a transformable field used to play a variety of sports from rugby and basketball to ice hockey and soccer.

Name: New Sparta
Function: Economic, Financial and Territorial Capital(WO)
Population: 7 million
Leader: Mayor Makis(Mike) Taddeson
New Sparta is the economic and financial capital of the Phoenix Milita. It also serves as both the county seat of Rockshore county and the capital of Washegon Territory and one of the largest cities on the West coast of TPM's mainland.
New Sparta is built on a semi-mountainous terrain that tapers off into a rolling coastal plain. A 2 mile long beach and coastline borders the city to the west and Spartan Rock to the northeast. The city's borders encompass approximately 72 square miles, but the city has expanded its limits twice in its history so far.
New Sparta is the first planned city designed, constructed, and completely financed by Phoenix Dynamix. Construction began in late 2003 and was finished in 2006. Both elevated and sub surface road and railways allow for easy movement into out of and through the city. A series of aqueducts criss cross the city and intermingle with the elevated roadways and train lines. Also, there are 4 beautifully landscaped parks dotting the four corners of the downtown area.
Shortly after the city was completed, the population quickly bloated beyond the original scope. A number of office buildings were converted into housing, but eventually even this measure proved ineffective and city officials finally persuaded the federal government to authorize an expansion of borders and new construction. The city is characterized by numerous and beautiful skyscrapers and towers of its downtown, and the modern style but significantly diverse apartment complexes and retail stores. The city also has a major sea port which is being renovated and expanded, but at this time there is only a small regional airport serving it.
Irish Corsica

Kraxlock

Kraxlock is Irish corsicas capital and largest city. It houses over 46 million people who are mostly cooped up in small "pod hotel" like flats. The populance is surrounded by both natural beauty and heavy industry.

Kraxlock boasts the best public transport system in the world, with the subway (KSS) covering every area of the city, and the garuntee (which is allways met) is that a train (driverless) will arrive every two minutes. Another thing which makes mass transit so effective is that the KSS is directly linked to the bus service, which helps people get to local areas very swiftly.

The airport serving the city handles over 16 million passengers a day, being the regions buissiest transport hub. The airport is struggling to cope with the amount of people passing through each day

The police service is extreemly effective with its zero tollerence approach to any crime. Every bus and train has at least one police officer onboard at all times, and police presence on the street is extremly high.

Power is taken from a local dam, the Adolf Hitler local electric plant AHLEP (which is name after a certain german chap) which is the thing that stirs the most controversy in the city given its name, but the mayor says it is a part of "irish corsicas violent collaborating history"
SaintB
30-05-2007, 15:57
Country: Kingdom of SaintB

Largest City: Jharekan, (27,123,435 by last census)
At the extreme southern end of the Kingdom, Jharekan City was spared from most of the fighting in the 10 year civil war. Like its sister city of Daltaine Jharekan City's architecture combines Elizabethan, Renasance, and Modern architecture. Jharekan is also known as 'The City of Trees' as it is built inside the largest forest in the nation; only trees of a certain age or that prove detrimental to habitation are allowed by law to be cut down, and only with a proper permit. Jharekan's laws are the most eco freindly in the country and industrial emmissions are very low.
Atractions: The Snowflake Palace - Built completely or white marble and modeled after a palace built by the roman emperor Nero. Saint Benard has opened it to the public as a tourist attraction. Snowflake Palace is now a government run Greco/Roman themed hotel and resort.
The Life Tree - Almost exact center of the city sits an ancient willow tree known to locals as 'The Life Tree'. The original settlers beleived that any marriage aranged or performed under The Life Tree would result in a happy and prosperous relationship that bore many children. Each summer evening the tree is alive with thousands of fire flies, thier blinking lights put on a marvelous spectacle that brings thousands of tourists each year. It is traditional that all royal weddings take place under the Life Tree during a full moon on a summer's eve.

Capitol: Daltaine (14,368,172 by last census)
Daltaine is an ancient and beloved city dating back to pioneer times. By agreement, no party involved in the civil war ever layed siege or attacked the city. Regardless of how well defended thier position was, any warlord who controlled Daltaine would relenquish it to the attacker if they lost a battle within 10 miles of city limits. Mcpherson Airbase was the most common battleground outside the city, and the whole war. People have compared Daltaine to Paris and several other European citys in beauty. The city lies within a basin surounded on all sides by low rolling mountains and small forests. It is defended by Mcpherson Airbase, the largest in the country with nearly 50,000 men stationed there.
Attractions: Rainbow Rock - This mountain of quartz is located about 4 miles outside of city limits. Its pristine natural beauty draws people the world over. Its summit is the location of a once in a lifetime event, it is here that the new Monarch is christened.
Capitol Palace - The Capitol Building of SaintB. It is here that the Monarch resides with his court (now only symbolic as Saint Benard has removed the fuedal hierarchy). The Palace is open to tourists and a museum has been installed in the left wing.

our cities tend to be villages OF villages, surrounding a central, forrested parklike grove area. probably our most unique though is nebethira, famous for its 'woumbsnugs'. hundreds of miles of narrow, twisting underground passages, built by an agoraphobic sect of the nalanotho, as a way to live in harmony and security. though few true fallowers remain, the small rooms and intreguigingly convoluted passages are quite popular as housing for students of the university that later came to be built above.

Dragonicale (Capital)

(Check out my sig, should say http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Dragonicale)

Pop: 50,000

The Federation of Dragonicale is VERY remote, and most of the cities are protected by strong domes which protects them from fierce sandstorms and other fierce weathers. Not to mention from most missles and bombing.

The city contains no skycraper, pure two or one story houses except for the Palace. The city's main transportation from city-to-city is the tunnel or flying. It is the center of manufacturing and trading
Somabalbah
14-06-2007, 20:27
Esperantia, the “universal city”, capital of Somabalbah, is also by far its largest (in area) and most populous city, with an estimated population of at least 30 million, if not more. It dominates the center of the nation, spreading out from its core in a series of concentric circles defined by highways. In the very heart of the city, surrounded by pristine parks, is the Central Citadel, a massive building that is nearly identical to the main building of Moscow State University. Completed only a few years ago (making it younger than most of the city), it houses all government departments, the Parliament Hall, and the residences of the President, Vice President, and their chief officials. It also serves as the national headquarters of the Elite Guard, whose presence is stronger there than anywhere else in the nation. However, it is also protected (as is the rest of the center of the city) by the 1st Home Guard Regiment, considered the “original” Home Guard unit.

Surrounding the Central Citadel is the next “layer” of the city, the prosperous Downtown. It is home to a mixture of powerful businesses and luxury shopping and apartments. It is also home to the Double Tower, the nation’s first true skyscraper. Built in the Brutalist style, it is now considered somewhat ugly.

Surprisingly, Downtown is surrounded by Industrial District One. This was where the nation’s various powerful industries made their start, but the factories are somewhat small and have now been bought out by high-tech new companies with enough financial backing to afford the high cost of real estate in ID1. The so-called First Factory, which manufactured weapons, tools, and novelties out of tin, is now one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions.

The true Business District, as opposed to Downtown, surrounds ID1. It is a fierce corporate battleground where new skyscrapers are erected every day, but none stand as tall as the gleaming Crystal Tower and the newer, taller, but somewhat blander Marble Tower. One quadrant of the Business District is a designated Financial Zone.

The next “layer” is known as the 4DQ (Four Different Quadrants) Layer. It consists of four unique residential zones. The Northeast and Northwest Quadrants were developed first. The Northeast Quadrant is Zamburg. One of the most densely populated and least pleasant places to live in the city, Zamburg is home to a largely Chinese and Eastern European population. It is dominated by the huge, modern L.L. Zamenhof International Airport, which contains a large Air Force base, the primary one for the city. Zamburg’s Citizen Militia is known as one of the best in the city, especially after the founding of the elite Red Stars unit. The Northwest Quadrant is Myrtle Heights. It is the undisputed wealthy residential section of the city, with exotic mansions set into terraced hillsides lush with myrtle trees. Myrtle Heights Airfield, though small, is the preferred take-off point of the rich and famous, along with military and government officials how wish to keep a low profile. The Southeast and Southwest Quadrants are actually not so unique. They are simply called the Southeast Habitation Zone and Southwest Habitation Zone and were constructed to accommodate the growing population, nothing more, nothing less. As a result, these two areas consist mostly of medium-to-high-rise apartment buildings and extremely variable local character.

Beyond the city highway network, anything goes. Industrial District Two is located to the northeast, Industrial District Three to the southwest. Both are home to much heavier, grittier industry than Industrial District One, and are therefore built on the fringes of the city on purpose. Also in the northeast is a public housing complex, erected shortly after the country was founded in order to provide housing for the masses of people arriving in the country (one must remember that this was less than 10 years ago…Somabalbah is a very young nation). It seemed like a good idea initially, but gangs quickly formed along ethnic lines and attempted to gain control of the complex and various drug dealing rings within it. As the carefully planned housing projects were consumed by chaos, the then-Vice President Joseph Benson (now serving a lifelong prison sentence for a coup attempt that was carried out with the help of a convicted war criminal years after he (Benson) resigned in the wake of a scandal and was replaced by Lily Sabina Fairweather) strongly urged the President to cut off all government services to the projects and erect walls around them. This plan was reluctantly carried out and the projects remained sealed off until recently, when they were evacuated, gangsters were killed or arrested, and the buildings and government services restored. The projects are now inhabited once again (by the city’s poorest families, who pay nothing to live there) and are now nicer than some of the housing in Zamburg.

Finally, it must be noted that suburban housing developments are spreading out in all directions from the city. In Somabalbah, most suburban neighborhoods are set up like fortresses, surrounded by moats, fences topped with razor wire and occasionally electrified, remotely controlled machine guns, and anything else that the residents see fit to add. The houses themselves are usually made of concrete or steel and include a safe room that is bombproof and equipped with air filters and well stocked with extra weapons, food, water, and other survival gear. Emergency escape tunnels leading out of the neighborhood from each basement are sometimes required as well.
