Recent History:
In 1998, the last of the military juntas was over. Soon after, a republic was brought forth. Under the guidance of Olusegun Obasanjo the economy and healthcare have been on a rise. He has also worked on bringing peace to the conflict zone in the south, the Niger Delta. He is suppose to work out a deal that will hopefully settle peace there. By paying for the move of all people out of the delta and to a better community, he wishes in return the halting to the violence that has been occuring.
Most recently, he has worked towards the betterment of West Africa. He has begun many projects to supply his neighboring countries with fuel and food, two commodities that West Africans need the most of. These deals are expected to increase the GDP of the country, as well as better West African foreign relations.
With the beginning of 2007, Olusegun Obasanjo was not elected, but instead Umaru Yar'Adua is the next President of Nigeria.
