Nicaraguan Invasion of Poor Honduras (Cold War '07)

Nicaraguan Opening to the Honduras Invasion
The Kitty Hawk Super carrier, the NNS Gold reached just off port from the Easter coast of Honduras, surrounded by the entire fleet of the Nicaraguan military. The NNS Gold launched its forty aircraft, seven of which were recently purchased F 16's launched themselves towards the Honduran air force bases, the actual targets where the paved runways. Along with this initial assault, the entire Nicaraguan National Airforce launched itself towards the air bases, allowing two of their cluster bombs to land on each one's pavement. The remainder of their missiles were used to wipe out known high command centers and open armoured units that were traversing the country side of Honduras.
Five division marched into Honduran land, capturing five important cities. Six hundred fifty tanks accompanied the assault division. First division was tasked with taking Choluteca, Second was after San Lorenzo, Third after Danli, Fourth would be marching towards the capitol, Tegucigalpa. The final Fifth would be engaged at Juticalpa. Another Nicaraguan Marine division would be landed at the large port city of Puetro Lempira.
Expected resistance was to be minimal, and surrenders were to be common, as the wargames showed the Honduran military that they need not fear being captured, as Nicaragua would follow the Geneva convention, and they would be fed well. Also officers would be well treated. Especially with the large break down of high ranking officers as many of them had been killed in the initial scramble of Nicaraguan aircraft. All of these would apply, except for the capitol, as it was sacred to the Honduran people, and the troops would fight tooth and nail for it.

The military was in an utter panic, while this wasn't completely out of the blue, it was still quite a shock to experience such an attack without a declaration of war. Choluteca, Juticalpa and San Lorenzo surrendered the moment the situation was deemed hopeless, and Puetro Lempira was crippled in just a few hours. Danli however unexpectedly put up extreme resistance, as most of the remaining armored divisions, around 1000 of various types, and 14000 troops were hastily assembling a defence. At Tegucigalpa, the situation was tense, around 40,000 troops and a handful of armored units had managed to assemble to defend the capital, the airforce was all but grounded, and many of the generals were advocating surrender or escape via air. With the situation desperate, the government put out a plea for international aid, before ordering that their would be no surrender. Their country would not fall without a fight.

The Chancellor of Sweden sat up in his chair immediately when he heard the news. "Theyre doing WHAT!"
"You heard me sir," the aide said. "They invaded the Hoduras. What do you want to do?"
"Frankly, I am not sure about NATO's stance on either nation. Wait for the US to move, and follow accordingly. If Japan moves in a different direction than the US, then we have a balls-buster on our hands."
"Yes sir. I'll tell the PR department that we are going to keep quiet on this for a while."
"You do that." The chancellor rolled back in his chair. He really wanted to woo Japan into NATO, but the US could make it really hard.

We urge you to spend the money nonetheless. $50 million can purchase a considerable number of weapons, especially if we can negotiate with the USSR for low or no cost. Our men will arrive within two weeks, and we hope that the Cubans will consider dispatching volunteers to fight as partisans against the fascist invaders.
In addition, we are planning to supply your armed with the following weapons from our own military surplus:
10,000 AK-74U assault rifles
10,000 GP-30 Underbarrel Grenade Launchers
10,000 PMM Marakov pistols
2,500 SV-98 Sniper Rifles
2,500 Pecheneg GPMG
2,500 Saiga-12 shotguns
2,500 A-5 submachine guns
1,000 KPV heavy machine guns
100 Kornet E shoulder-fired anti-tank missile launchers
These will arrive secretly over the next month in normal shipments from the GDR and will be disseminated to your troops accordingly.
The Shah sent out the order. A small squad of older Su-24 fightes was heading out to Nicaragua by air. They would get there by way of civilian transport. On it would also be a shipment of oil. The shipment was to be recieved in just under three weeks.

They expected pressure, and they knew it would be of no avail, for in truth, the Honduran people wanted it. They were in horrible conditions, poverty abound, death at every wake, AIDs was the most common and fear problem, and the Nicaraguan offered relief, and they would most-likely gladly accept it. But this was a military affair, and it would be treated as such.
Three divisions, from Jaticulpa, Choluteca, and San Lorenzo pressed against the troops defending Danli, in total sixty thousand men and six hundred Centurion main battle tanks pressed against the city, along with artillery support from the Nicaraguan border, of which, Danli was dangerously close to.
The division at Tegucigalpa bunkered down as they met a truly strong resistance and called in for the air force's support. Thirty-three MiG-21's launched a ferocious airborne assault against the country's capitol. The division outside the capitol held back not firing at anything, not willing to risk their brother's lives... the civilian lives.
Another division from Nicaragua split up and defended Jaticulpa, Choluteca and San Lorenzo, handing out hundreds to the poor people of all the cities, something that would turn many of them to their side... money would win them this war. And it was Nicaraguan currency, signifying they were now part of their country.
Outside Danli, Route 37 from Nicaragua. The night was humid and dark, and the highway was mostly unlit, giving the small team valuable cover as they avoided the rear of the Nicaraguan forces moving in to the territory. They had little time to work, and set to it immediately, rigging roadside explosive devices along a stretch of the highway. Unlike conventional IEDs, these were vastly superior devices clearly manufactured by professionals. The strange language they spoke was not a Latin one and sounded out of place in the tropical heat of the Honduras night.
Working quickly, they successfully rigged twenty devices along 300m of roadway before the lightening sky announced the arrival of dawn. The team withdrew quietly, waiting for the word to set off the devices.
If they were lucky, the blasts would be serious enough to temporarily render the portion of the road impassable, forcing the Nicaraguans to use the more roundabout way from El Paraiso, slowing their movement by several days and creating an elongated supply line through hostile territory or attempt to take the risky dirt roads that ran through the countryside. In addition, it could take a few weeks to fully repave the road and get it operating again, valuable time in a war like this.

((ooc: How can I buy things? I'm not in either block))
In Danli, Brig. General Leo Valladares slammed back a hastily poured Gin. A force that outnumbered his own infantry over 3 to 1 and had a superior tank force was bearing down upon the city. Their only advantage was the native populous and the urban environment. Wiping the sweat from his brow, he looked over the map of the city, wishing he had picked a building with AC to banish the stifling heat. He sent out orders the have the infantry hole up in the buildings, gambling that the Nicaraguans would have enough sense to prevent them from blasting civilians to bits. He ordered the 588 t-64s to mass at the roads in and out of the city, hoping that the inaccuracy of artillery would dissuade any attacks on them. As he sent the order out he had a sinking feeling in his stomach, as it was quite possible he had just signed thousands of death warrants.
In the capital, the leaders of the country retreated to a special bunker underground, the scream of air raid sirens in their ears. Anti-aircraft fire occasionally spat back at the MiGs that were mercilessly assaulting the city, but when the order to retreat indoors came, many crews abandoned their posts. The Migs took these opportunities without mercy, destroying 35 AA emplacements across the city. In the end, all vehicles where forced to take shelter under garage complexes. Approximately 17 tanks were crippled, with 21 left scattered around the terrified city.
{{OOC: Serious question. How did you get here in 2 days?}}
OOC: A plane flight? We could easily get a flight in to Tegucigalpa by any airline in two days, and it's less than 30 miles or so by highway to Danli from there. Since we'd know for at least a few weeks that you guys are preparing for war, it wouldn't be hard to sneak a team of agents in to the country.

{{OOC: Whatever, I don't care now. Alright, I guess those are cool. I'm assuming you placed them near the city.}}
The first placed explosive crippled a BMP-3 APC, and the Nicaraguan unit soon learned from it mistake. Though the damage caused to the road was admirable, it still supported the tanks. The command staff had a line of men walk from side-to-side, it had to be replaced nineteen times, and by then, they had been blown apart by T-62 tanks that had seen them.
But the Nicaraguans knew what the poor Hondurans wanted... money. A single man waving a white flag ran towards each tank crew, offering them all a year's pay if they turned against the garrison inside. Emphasizing the fact that they were outnumbered, out gunned, and definelty out trained.
This was a gambit to save lives. But even now the MiGs had seen where the troops had retreated to at the capitol, or atleast had a rough idea, and twelve bunker buster bomb caring F16's flew towards their targets, flanked by thirty MiG-21's.

Many of the tank crews defected immediately upon hearing the Nicaraguan offer, leaving their tanks where they stood. Radio chatter was minimal with the city however, and the infantry remained hole up in the buildings. At the city's imprompto HQ, General Valladares was distraught. He was still trying to find some way to hold out, but his hopes were fading with every second.
At the capital, the air raid sirens continued their pained wails as a group of enemy f-16s streaked toward the city. Massive explosions contrasting with the cacophony of AA fire as they released their deadly payload. The infantry in the city hadn't concentrated at any particular point, lessening casualties significantly. Roughly 650 civilians died in the attack, with military casualties hovering around 230. The city was hunkered down and ready for a fight, she would not fall to a simple air assault.
The APCs having done almost nothing, the East German saboteurs withdrew outside of the city, watching the situation and placing additional IEDs along route 74 to try and slow the Nicaraguans long enough for the additional supplies and manpower to arrive. They had at best a couple of weeks at the current pace before the enemy was in Tegucigalpa, so they would have to act fast.
There was a fairly significant bridge on Route 74 about halfways between Danli and Tegucigalpa; if the Hondurans held for at least three days, they could have that bridge properly wired with their remaining explosives, enough to destroy the bridge or at least render it totally impassable.
But given the size of the Nicaraguan forces, that was no guarantee.

OOC:Is the timefram 1 Day = 2 Weeks? Im guessing its less...
OOC: I would say so. That's in line with my original post about an hour after the OP was posted; it would take about 12-13 hours for them to get to the outskirts of Danli and set up IEDs, since the airport in Tegucigalpa is about 30 miles by highway from the city.
The Gulf Of Mexico
The USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) (Nimitz class supercarrier) and the two Ticonderoga class cruisers (USS Anzio and USS Vella Gulf) that had been sent to protect there oil assets in the Gulf of Mexico were on full alert. The United States had placed these massive strong ships to protect the oil, which they assumed would be divided between NATO countries, but ships from every country in the world it seemed passed them by and they waiting threateningly. However, they accepted the fact Nicaragua's relied a lot on the oil, but soon enough they would have to draw up plans so it was more exclusive.
All hands were on deck so to speak, and the defences were prepared. They knew Warsaw Pact nations might use this as a chance to strike at Americans Central American friend, and they were prepared to defend The Gulf Of Mexico from any of there feeble attacks. A message was sent out by the Captain of the ship whilst outside planes starting doing test-runs and parading in the air around the ship.
