Intro:
"Ah, Colonel General Helfried, welcome!" cried Minister of Defence: Joseph Hriksburg. The white haired minister reached over and gestured to an empty seat before him. He scanned his desk briefly trying in vain to find his glasses. Minister Hriksburg was relieved of his blind search when the Colonel General leaned forward with a small grunt and picked up Hriksburg's glasses off the floor.
"There you are Minister." Helfried said as he handed the minister his spectacles. The minister took them and politely thanked the General. He blinked until the room came back into focus and leaned back in his chair with a sigh.
"Do you know why I have asked your presence?"
"No. Minister I have not the slightest idea as to why you would request my presence."
"Colonel General, I will not toy around with feeble politics of regular procedure and get directly to the point," the minister leaned closer and lowered his voice to a near whisper, "General...you are here because your presence has been requested by the Emperor. His Excellency Emperor-" Colonel General Helfried cut off the minister suddenly:
"I know who His Excellency is, no do please tell me why he wishes to see me. Normally I would consider this a great honor, but growing tensions on the Grenzländer point to a more serious occasion."
The minister put on a more serious face, "You are correct in your assumption, the Emperor wishes you to lead the Eladinian 3rd Army into the Grenzländer and put a stop to any subversive activity that is believed to be going on there. But first the Emperor personally wishes to tell you your objective." The Colonel General groaned internally; if the objective was to be recieved from His Imperial Highness himself, than either the mission was either secret, or posed the chance of causing international strife. Colonel General Helfried stood up and bode the Minister of Defence a good day and quietly leaving the room. On his way out of Imperial Defence Headquarters in the capital city of Ebinissa he nodded at the Imperial Guards standing outside the building.
Palace of His Imperial Highness, Emperor Reichstavfe, Ebinissa
Colonel General Helfried stood, clad in full military dress, at attention as His Excellency, the Emperor of the Empire of Eladinia walked into the room and took his place on the throne. Helfried kneeled and said: "Gott erblicken der Kaiser in allen Seiner Herrlichkeit." God behold the Emperor in all His Glory.
"Rise General, I trust the minister informed you as to why you are here."
"He did Excellency." The General stood straight, not making eye contact with his sovereign monarch, it was a sign of disrespect to look an Eladinian Imperial Ruler in the eye. One that could hold deadly consequences.
"You are to travel to the Grenzländer and put a stop to any and all rebellion. I have seen what a small revolt can lead to in the Empire of Ibinius and I'll be Goddamned if it should happen here! You are to execute your orders with extreme prejudice. No mercy will be given to the rebelling scum of the Borderlands! Gehen Sie Oberstgeneral, haben Sie Sie Ihre Reihenfolgen!" Helfried bowed and said: "Gott erblicken der Kaiser in allen Seiner Herrlichkeit.", rose and left the room. As Colonel General left the throne room, Minister of Defence Joseph Hriksburg walked in. Why? Thought Helfried, he then shook the thought away, it is not my place to ask why...
The Grenzländer, 1500 hrs.
The Borderlands
The Borderlands is a huge strip of conquered land in the former nations of Poland and the Czech Republic, rendered useless by the Imperial Government because of radiation left over from the last nuclear war. The history of that war will not be delved into. The Polish and the Czech had been abandoned and the only touch those people felt by the Imperial Government was the governors that resided in the few undamaged cities. Eladinia held that it was the rightful owner of the Grenzländer, though it stationed no part of its army there and rarely had anything to do with it. This was about to change; frequent Imperial interferece or not the Grenzländer was still part of the Eladinian Empire and would be treated as such. Any attempt at revolt or revolution would be crushed mercilessly.
Colonel General Helfried road in an armored APC accompinied by Major General Alexander, the blonde haired man examined his superior with minor interest. He had read about the Colonel General exploits during Eladinia's war with the Dutch Empire, but had never met him face to face. This may turn out to be interesting yet.
"So we are going to war, eh?"
"No Major General, we are going to slaughter some undesirables. If this is war...well, we shall soon find out."
