After recent international blunders and a decline in popularity domestically, Sir Phillip Sinclair was not chosen to lead the Londinian Democratic Socialists after their victory late last night.

His second-in-command, Alistair Davidson, MP for Argyll, has been asked by Her Majesty Queen Hemali I to lead a new government. Mr Davidson has accepted.

"I am greatly honoured that the Londinian people have chosen me as their leader," the new Prime Minister announced in a televised speech. "A new era has dawned for this nation - one of international respect and power."

Mr Davidson has pledged to repair the image of British Londinium throughout the world - one that is tattered at best after the tyranny of James Swanner and the incompetency of Sir Phillip Sinclair.

The Conservatives also made gains in this election, though the Federalists dwindled down to a mere 10 seats in the House of Commons.

Sir Phillip declined to comment on his defeat.

"We observe today not a victory of party but a celebration of freedom--symbolizing an end as well as a beginning--signifying renewal as well as change. For I have sworn before British Londinium the same solemn oath our forbears prescribed two centuries ago.

Our nation is different now - for the better. We are more powerful, and we exude greatness and splendour. But the price of greatness is responsibility. If the people of the United Kingdom continue in a mediocre station, struggling with the wilderness, absorbed in their own affairs, and a factor of no consequence in the movement of the world, we will remain forgotten and undisturbed beyond their protecting oceans: but one cannot rise to be in many ways the leading community in the civilised world without being involved in its problems, without being convulsed by its agonies and inspired by its causes.

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

This much we pledge - and more.

To those old allies whose cultural and spiritual origins we share, we pledge the loyalty of faithful friends. United there is little we cannot do in a host of cooperative ventures. Divided there is little we can do--for we dare not meet a powerful challenge at odds and split asunder.

To those new states whom we welcome to the ranks of the free, we pledge our word that one form of colonial control shall not have passed away merely to be replaced by a far more iron tyranny. We shall not always expect to find them supporting our view. But we shall always hope to find them strongly supporting their own freedom--and to remember that, in the past, those who foolishly sought power by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside.

To those people in the huts and villages of half the globe struggling to break the bonds of mass misery, we pledge our best efforts to help them help themselves, for whatever period is required--not because the communists may be doing it, not because we seek their votes, but because it is right. If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich.

To our sister republics strewn throughout the region, we offer a special pledge--to convert our good words into good deeds--in a new alliance for progress--to assist free men and free governments in casting off the chains of poverty. But this peaceful revolution of hope cannot become the prey of hostile powers. Let all our neighbors know that we shall join with them to oppose aggression or subversion anywhere in the Pacific.

To every single Londinian, I pledge that under my reign, you will be the proud citizens of one of the greatest nations ever to grace the planet. Together, united, we can make British Londinium great."

The Revolutionary Government of the Glorious Republic of Leafanistan

Our delegates are currently in some sort of conference with your former Prime Minister. Is it safe to recall them and continue negotiations over the current 'situation' within your nation via these channels?

To the Glorious Republic of Leafanistan:

Feel free to resume negotiations, if you wish, with the new government.

OOC: I thought the negotiations ended. But whatever.
