So, I thought this would be a good place for us all to post a few interesting facts or weird laws about our nations that we haven't plastered on NSwiki yet. I'll get us started.

In Green Hawk everyone loves birds. They like them so much the nation was named after a bird, people name thier children after birds, money is also named after a body part of a bird, our national animal is a type of bird, our states are named after birds, hunting of birds is illegal and there is much more, but I feel like I'm boring everyone with all these details. However, the funny thing is... Only a few species of birds live in Green Hawk. :rolleyes:

In addition, women in the US Army Officer's Training Academy at West Point may take the Ranger's certification course, but upon completion they are not issued the patch stating they have been so trained. My nation's military does have a Ranger's Regiment, and women are permitted to take the course, both officers and enlisted women, and while they may not actually join the regiment at this time, they may employ the patch showing them as Ranger qualified, and are on the Rangers Reserves List, a list my army keeps for use in dire emergencies when it must call up qualified people to sustain/enlarge its specialized light infantry unit on very short notice. In Tyria, female Charr are not considered equals. However, unlike in similarly chauvinistic human cultures, this is actually accurate - female Charr are significantly weaker and less intelligent than their male counterparts, due to extensive sexual dimorphism.

The Charrian Horde is not actually a 'national military' as it appears to be, but rather an amalgamation of each of the clans' own armed forces, each of which is funded independently. When declaring war, only those clans who agree with the motivations behind the war are obliged to commit their troops to the cause. In the case of one of the three largest clans refusing to commit their troops, the war effort is effectively over before it has started.
It is an almost universally popular Charrian custom for packs (large family units) to get together each weekend and hunt for their own food in the countryside. So popular is the custom that Charr who fail to regularly attend this event are ostracised, and packs which do not recognise the tradition are distrusted.
Large swathes of modern Tyrian cities remain unpaved and overgrown - deliberately. Charr believe that it is important to maintain a physical link to the natural world, even in the midst of a metropolis. For this reason, rich and cosmopolitan cities may appear to be much less civilised than they actually are when viewed by outsiders.

Many Charr actually choose to be homeless, either because they prefer to live outdoors, or because their pack is nomadic in nature. This tendency also makes it very difficult to take accurate census and to appropriately zone cities. Humans of Tyria, on the other hand, have a very low homeless rate.

During the months of May through to August, Lion's Arch, the capital city of Tyria, is under constant siege as thousands of large Devourers try to gain access to the populated area from their natural homes in the Maguuma Jungle to the west. Large warbands from the Charrian Horde are placed on the city borders to repel these constant attacks, and large concrete walls surround the west borders of the city and have deep foundations to prevent the insects from burrowing beneath them.
Tyria is one of the few places in the world where vigilantism is not only legal but encouraged. Charr beliefs in honour and strength require them to tackle criminals by themselves.
Tyria is a unique island in that it holds several different climates in a fairly small area - temperate forests in its inner regions, snowy mountains to the north and the east, unusually dead wastelands to the far east, hot, humid and dangerous jungles to the west, and deserts in the south. Thus, any attempt to give an 'average temperature' figure for the island would be somewhat misleading, as the temperatures vary wildly.
Aside from some species of insects and migrating birds and fish, life on Tyria has been evolving independently ever since the island first split away from Pangaea, giving rise to some of the most unique forms of life on the planet - including the Charr themselves.
At the age of 15, Tyria has one of the lowest suffrage ages in the world. All Charr males, and human males and females, are considered to be legal adults after this age, with full civil and political rights.
Tyria has some of the most extensive civil, political and economical freedoms in the world, with a very small national government with limited rights. Contrariwise, religious freedoms for Charr are quite low, and the government automatically cites '100% of all Charr to follow the principle and tenants of Fire Worship'. Humans of Tyria on the other hand are under no religious obligations.
The currency of Tyria, the Charrian Gold Coin, has not used actual gold coins as legal tender for over half a century.
All forms of narcotics are legal. Official government policy on the issue goes something like, "if people are too weak-willed to resist, they deserve the consequences".
Thanks to a high GDP per capita, Charr enjoy high levels of personal wealth. Interestingly though, most Charr claim to hate money. Charrian corporations are, of course, happy to relieve them of it.
Charr do not have any structured sporting events. They prefer to engage in ritualistic challenges with each other, usually on friendly terms, than to watch others. The Charr equivalent to a public house usually has a small arena in a back room dedicated to such challenges. Although never reaching national television coverage, clashes between locally-renowned Charr can encourage large numbers of local spectators. In modern times it has become equally acceptable to engage in mental challenges as well as physical challenges - Charr believe that the gods gifted them with both great physical and mental strength, and it is just as honourable to use either one. It is not considered to be dishonourable to lose a challenge match, even when it is not in good faith; it is only dishonourable to refuse to accept one.
Public nudity is legal in Tyria. Indeed, it has never been a political issue. Many Charr, especially in warmer regions, choose to forgo clothing most of the time. Few Charr ever wear shoes.
