The Fall of a Nation

OOC: Please only IC sighn-up posts.

IC: Leftanant Jackson and Commander Ohanda had been disscussing it for a month, and now it was time. The two soldiers walked into the briefing room with the selected elite who were to spread the vision of Chairman Ozriach. 785 of the 900 soldiers at the army base of Judsonville had agreed to help. In 3 hours the people of the USSB would know about Chairman Ozriach`s plan and hopefully they would join in with the cleansing of the nation, and eventually the world !

Lucy, age 14, was sat outside with her little sister. It was a sunny July Saturday morning, a calm breeze whistled softly through the trees. 10:30am, the morning show on BBN1 was just just finishing. Lucy thought about all the things she could be doing rather than babysitting her little sister. She longed for the day when she could go to work and earn her own money, when she... She was suddenly interupted from daydreaming when when she heared screams and gunshots. Then she saw a convoy of 5 tanks, 10 jeeps and 20 trucks driving down her street. They were followed by about 50 soldiers who were knocking on every door. Lucy grabbed her sister`s hand and ran inside. Then came the knock on her door. Her mum was the only one at home, her dad had gone to work. Lucy, her mum and her sister huddled together together on the couch. Eventually the soldiers broke down the door and while one soldier held a gun pointed at Lucy`s mum the other two ransacked the house, taking crosses and bibles and other religiouse things around the house and videos, even the T.V. When one of the soldiers started to take Lucy`s sister`s teddy her sister screamed and broke away from her mum`s arms. The soldier who was watching them raised his gun and shot the little girl. Her mum screamed as the girls brains were blown onto the other side of the room.

"Sir?"

"What is it ?" Stuttered the President jumping up from his bed. "Wait a minute, this is my bedroom ! What the hell are you you doing ?!?"

"I`m sorry sir but it is 12:00pm."

"What ! Oh great, I`ve over slept again, what`s so urgent that you need to rush into my room ?"

"Wha... what`s going on Jack ?" asked the President`s wife.

"Nothing dear, go back to sleep. What`s going on ?"

"Well sir, err... At about 10:30 this morning, a town in the state of New Calafornia called Judsonville was attacked and..."

"Attacked ! by who ?"

"By our own troops sir. They`re following the orders of a man named Robert Ozriach. A Cyonist..."

"A cyonist, what`s that ?"

"Cyonism sir. It`s a political beliefe, it was thought of by a man called Lucio Cyon during the revolution 750 years ago. Cyonists have a very anarchistic veiw of how a country should be run. They also belief that all religions should be banned and that all forms of what they call "inapropriate Entertainment" anything sir, anything that sends happiness and joy should also be banned. They have the support of the whole of the west side of the country sir."

"You...better...call...the...press...then."

Chairman Ozriach stepped up to the podium and began to speak.

"People of Boico. The government that you used to follow has become currupt and evil. I recieved a note from one of my informents that just yesterday the President recieved a bribe of over 1.6 billion USD from an uranium tycoon to bulldose over 43 thousand spuare miles of our rainforest.
Please friends, comrades, fight the good fight and help us destroy this evil !"

There was a huge round of applause as Chairman Ozriach stepped down and retired to his quarters in the underground bunker witch the Cyonists were planning the war.

Chairman Petrovsky walked towards his office and turned on his TV to see the daily morning news. Everything was normal until there was the news of the Cyonists. "Today at 10:30 Cyonists rebels took the city of Judsonville." said the Anchor. "Great News Mr. Chairman! That government needs to be broke down and take down those corrupt tyrants." Said his Personnal Assistant.

Petrovsky got up his chair and noded at his PA. "Yes Vassili, let's help those Cyonics or whatever they are named. Boico needs to be straightened up and I think we could help them. They have few men, we could provide some help. What do you think Vassili?" Vassili grabbed some papers, and saw them. "Agree sir, Northern Fleet, 4th Naval Infantry Division and 6th Mechanized Ground Force Brigade. I think that could help."

Location: Naval Headquaters, Creaipa NC :

"General ! Sir the ships are in position, they`re awaiting your orders."

"Tell them to carry out order 229."

"Yes sir."

Location The attack fleet, the west coast of Boico :

"Captain, I`ve just recieved word from the Naval HQ. They want us to attack."

"Very well, send a message to all subs, surface and prepare water surface missiles."

"Very good sir" The petty officer preceeded to switch on the radio and repeat what the captain had just said.

"All the subs are awaiting orders"

"Fire! fire! fire!" Screamed the captain.

The ten submarines were firing on the small fishing town of Roulton Bay. It had been captured by the Cyonists a day ago. The submarine fleet`s mission was to wipe out the pier and the stretch of hotels along the coast.
All 30 missiles (3 per sub) hit there targets. The simple townsfolk could be heared screaming as there town was left as a flaming reck. The initial reports were that out of the 500 people who lived there, only 150 survived.

To the Chairman of the*soon to be screwed* Cyonists,
you dare shame the long ancient history of the Roubisian Mercenary tradition?
Every soldier in the RZDF wishes to fight for another country, learn their tactics, then return victorious with his/her share of the money, then retire a member of our many warrior houses, which we consider the best thing to happen to a soldier. You disgust me! We would've aided you in the revolution but Precentor Caine realises that the loyalists win with just one calculation "Sucks to be them Cyonists".

Luis walked calmly into the congress hall. The secretary at the nearby desk asked him did he need any assistence. As luis walked past the armed guards who eyed him suspiciously, he smiled and said "No, thanks. Just waiting for someone." After ten minutes he rose from his seat leaving behind his suitcase. Idiots, luis thought to himself. They didn`t even check the bag. He quitely chuckled to himself as he left the building.

About 15 minutes later the secretary noticed the bag on the waiting room seats. She walked over and opened it to see who`s it was. The last thing she saw was a blinding light and the huge 260 year old building was blown into hundreds of pieces and spread across a 20 mile radiouse. As luis was driven away in a local bus he heared screams and all the people on the bus went over onto the otherside and mumble and some even cryed. He new he had done his duty for Chairman Ozriach and for the good people of Boico

"..It won't be easy, Firachi 1st." The Aging trooper said. Behind him was the symbol of the great warrior house. It was a Templar Knight holding a flaming sword and an iron shield. The sword was of course, the symbol of Firachi might in battle and the shield, well that was a different story. "The heretical Anarchists wish to get rid of anything religous, and that would put happyness on a child's face. So, 1st and 7th battalion, you will hot-drop into the Capitol and help defend the loyalists. The rest, go where the military leaders ask, the APCs will cover you. God speed, men and a bloody day!"
Almost exactly after that the sirens went off to order deployment. The words "Deus Vult!" could be heard throughout the comm. center then all the soldiers were inside the Kangaroo Planes armed with two racks of missles and, then first their Dragonhawk escorts lifted off then the transports took off into hostile territory, ready to die for a worthy cause.

Joachim sat back in his armchair and sighed. His joints were aching again. God, he felt old. The youth he had recovered during the war had long since faded. He reached into his pocket and produced his Ritterkreutz. He smiled wistfully as he ran his finger accross the cold metal. It made him crave for action, for the good old days. Faces of dead friends flashed before him. He saw his youngest recruits, broken and splintered from the grenade trap that they triggered that day in '89. He remembered the clatter of the machine guns, the roar of the helicopters as it came to save them...

There was a knock at the door.

"Come in."

The door opened slowly. Thomas, his adjutant, peeked through the gap. He looked tense.

"Herr General..."

Joachim sat up in his chair, frowning.

"What is it?"

"Herr General...we're...we're going to war..."

The Ritterkreutz clattered loudly as it hit the floor.

"Well of course it is. We're in a bloody..."

Suddenly they heard an explosion.
The plane behind them was in burning pieces.

"Whoa! We were lucky this time. Some of us could have been killed" Prince sighed

"But Sir! Lewis was still in it!" captain said

"What?! Shit!"

The Prince fell to ground and started weeping.

"Why? Those bloody cyonists! I will kill them! All of them! I swear in the name of Lewis that I will kill chairman Ozriach with my bare hands!"

"But Sir, Life continues. Even they killed your nephew
we still have a mission to complete"

"I know. We must go to the naval base as soon as possible before more of us die. Let's go"

Heinrich Monke, General of the Infantry, stepped out of his aircraft and took a deep breath of the rancid air. The airstrip at the Crepia Naval Base betrayed a ramshackle state of affairs. Skeletons of aircraft littered the runway and in the distance, behind the hangars, he could see the shattered hulk of a freighter bobbing up and down in the docks. Artillery rounds impacted sporadically, and in-between explosions Boicoian troops scudded about from sangar to sangar, looking miserable. Mohnke took out a cigarette from his greatcoat pocket and lit it. What a wonderful fucking country.

Out of the corner of his eye Mohnke noticed a figure moving towards him from a group of corrugated-iron huts. He turned and faced a tiny man, dressed in an ill-fitting combat uniform. His face was drawn with stress.

“Are you General Mohnke?”

Mohnke titled his head in acknowledgement. The man smiled nervously.

“Major Tibbets sir, I’m your liaison officer. The president sent me to inform you of our situation. Follow me please.”

Without waiting for Mohnke to reply the little man about-faced and ran towards one of the huts near the aircraft. Mohnke followed, ignoring the artillery. The hut was piled high with weapons crates and a few Boicoian soliders lay against the walls. They eyed him up with curious suspicion.

Tibbets led Mohnke into a small office at the rear of the building and went to sit behind a spartan desk, upon which lay an assault rifle, an old telephone and a picture frame, faced towards Tibbets. He gestured for Mohnke to sit down.

“Thank you, Major, I’d prefer to stand. It’s been a long flight.” Mohnke took off his field cap and tucked it under his arm, running his hand through his greasy hair.

“As you wish, as you wish.” Tibbets eyes flicked from Mohnke to the picture.

“Your family?” Mohnke asked. It usually was. Tibbets nodded.

“Do you have a family?”

Mohnke shook his head. “They were all killed in 1989.”

“Oh…I’m”

“Look, Major, I didn’t come here to swap war stories. You want help, yes?”

“Well…yes…”

“Okay, then here’s how it will go. My country doesn’t really give a shit for the particulars of your situation – we can see your government is on its knees and we don’t want the enemy to reach your balls. We’re tired of seeing petty guerrillas topple good nations. So, we’ll send you the 2nd Jäger Division, and more if the situation demands, in order to help you. But there’ll be conditions.”

“Conditions?”

“Yes. Firstly, I will direct our forces on the ground independently of Boicoian control. I will liase with you, as the Boicoian military representative, and if necessary we will support your army and vice versa, but otherwise, we will stick to our plan.

“Your plan?”

“The second condition. The 2nd Jäger, when it arrives, will move as a scouting force. Their aim – find this Chairman whatever his name is, and bring him to you, dead or alive, depending on what he chooses. You see, Major, back in our Civil War, we had a problem like yours. We wasted hundreds of troops trying to kill our rebels, but they kept coming back. So, we used our main force to keep them busy, and we sent in Jäger troops to find the rebel leaders. They did and they killed them, and soon the rebels stopped coming.” Mohnke took the cigarette from his lips and waved it theatrically, “The best way to kill a rabid dog, Major, is to cut off its head.”

Tibbets nodded. “And the third condition?”

“The fee – we establish a military base and embassy here in Boico. Not too much to ask, I hope?”

“I, I don’t know.”

Mohnke gestured over his shoulder as another explosion rattled the walls. “The clock is ticking, Major.”

Tibbets bit his lip, then reached for the phone.

“I’ll call the President…”

Official Message from the Libertarian Federation of Avisron

To: Chairman Ozriach
From: Colonel Evan Walker, 4th Avisronite Diffused Combat Regiment

Greetings from the Libertarian Federation. The government of Avisron has an obligation to improve business opportunities for the corporations which operate from our homeland. We feel that the worlds Christian population do nothing more than attempt to impress their warped view of morality upon non-Christians. This is unacceptable.

The Avisronite Department of Defense has tasked me with getting my 5,000 man force into Boico and establishing a passive agressive campaign against the Christian regime.

My force includes an advanced IED production team, propaganda strategists, and a regular fighting force that will greatly aid in your war.

Do you accept?

To: Colonel Even Walker

From: Chairman Ozriach

Thank you very much for your offer and in the name of my Cyonist comrades I accept. But I would just like to clear up one thing. We are not anti-Christian, we are anti every religion. We believe religions bring currupt ideas to the people of the world.

Major Tibbets had just told the President the Koenwitz governments demands. "Tell him we accept, but also tell him that the military base will have to be placed were we decide."

"Very good sir." I just hope we can win this war, and even if we do, will it be a country worth living in. The President recalled civil wars that Boico had helped in. Even when the government won, the nation would still have tanks rolling down streets for 20 years after. God help us.

We have heard about the situation in your nation. To help bring order to your nation, elements of the 55th Anatolian Airborne Division are en route to Boico and would be ready to deploy within the next twelve hours. What we need is your approval for them to paradrop into the Boicoan territory.

As much as we believe in secularism, the action of the Cyonists is intolerable.

The government of the LFA is against most religions of the world, too. However, the destruction of the ability of Christian people to wage their war against those who are different is higher on our strategic doctrine than dealing with other, more peaceful religions.

Regardless of the differences in our doctrine it's obvious that we'll still be able to work together.

Soon my force will enter transit and head for your nation. Can I know the location of your headquarters? Until my engineers establish communications I'll need to work alongside you. Further, the LFA may be interested in getting you and most of your top commanders out of the country. Through our technology you can still be in control from Avisron, without the risk of being captured and losing the whole war.

The decision is still in your hands, however.

Once again I thank you. Even though the base is 16 miles into a nearby nation it would still be a good idea to move to a better location. This is the current location of the Cyonist base :

SIC (DECODED) : 2 miles north of MT. Talliou, in the Gaus desert. Which is 16 miles south of the Boico / West Mexico border. There will be two soldiers with signal flags waiting for your plane / Veichle.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, we might soon be moving." There was a roar of agreement from the commanders. "I knowit`s been tough in this boiling desert but hopefully we might be miving to Avrison. But tell no one. Nobody must know we have moved, if the people of Boico find out then they will turn against us. You may all go now."

The bus drove silently by the road.
After ten minutes it stopped in Creipa.
Prince with his men walked to the navalbase.
The streets were silent as they walked along the road.
The naval base controlroom was full of men with their computers.

"Good day everyone. I'm prince Niktah Al-Hollah from Brukistan and these 11 men are my bodyguard. I have a meeting with your president and the other representatives. Where are them?"

"They aren't here yet" one of the men answered

"Okay, I shall wait that he and the other representatives arrive"

"Do as you wish"

The prince sat to the table that was in the middle of the room.

"Excuse me prince, but i thought that you would have 12 men with you or did i hear wrong"

"You have a good hearing, boy. There were 12 of us, but we lost one in the explosion at the airport"

"Oh. I'm sorry"

"Thank you"

The man returned to his computer and continued the job he was doing.

"Sir I have something to tell you about the Prince from Brukistan, one of his guards was killed by a bomb. We believe it was a cyonist bomb. What`s even more terrible is that the guard was his nephew."

"Oh no, this war gets worse and worse. Now I`m responsible for the death of a member of a royal family !"

"I`m sure he won`t hold you responsible, it was a cyonist bomb."

"It was still my fault that he was here though. If I had better control over my nation he wouldn`t of been blown up !"

The president opened the door to the control room. "Your majesty." He bowed to the prince. "I`m very sorry for your loss, but we need to start talking about tactics to stop the monsters who killed your nephew."

They could develop into a more serious threat, not just to us, but to all.

I am pushing the Grand Congress to let us aid you, but after your attack of civilians, it will not be easy.

[OOC: Oops. Wow. I looked like 3 times and didn't see it. Go figure. Sorry about that.]

--IC--

--Cotco, Avisron--

It was a cloudy, windy day in Cotco. Of course, it always was. Everyday in Cotco was cloudy with a chance of rain. Most of the citys citizens actually like the weather - but it wasn't the place for those with seasonal depression. The town had the highest suicide rate in the country.

Cotco sits atop a plateau near the ocean, making it a highly valuable strategic position for the Avisronite military, which operates both a naval yard and an airport in the region. The countryside of the area is dotted with private fortresses owned by the high rate of survivalists that inhabited Avisron.

And then there was Castle Larson. The LFA Government had put forth a strategic initiative, years ago, to aquire dozens of seemingly-private fortresses in the Avisronite countryside. In times of severe national emergency the federal government could retreat into these decentralised fortresses and continue to function.

Colonel Evan Walker stood atop the castle and looked out over the valley to the east. He'd been here all morning - preparing to accept the Boiconian rebel leaders. He was doing more than that, though. He was preparing to destroy a country he'd never set foot in.

A young, fresh faced kid walked up beside him. It was his second in command, Lieutenant David Beem. Lt. Beem would be Walkers chief correspondent on the ground.

"Sir, Castle Larson is secure and ready for use. Should I depart now?"

Walker looked up at the kid. "Yeah, and take care of yourself out there. You're the future of this unit. Happy hunting."

Lieutenant Beem gave a short salute and walked back into the castle. A few moments later he exited from the bottom door, entered his Zecka 500, and was on his way to the nearby airbase.

Fifteen minutes later his sedan was parked in the government lot at the airbase and he was inside the transport aircraft, a medium sized KLT-99 Avenger Tactical Life Aircraft sat on the runway. Also inside the KLT-99 Avenger was the first 50 Avisronite troops to enter the country. Their job wasn't that complicated - establish communications with Castle Larson.

Six and a half hours later, the aircraft was landing at the designated airstrip.

Joachim felt his stomach tighten as he looked out of the window. Below, the rapidly approaching runway at Crepia Airfield was erupting in a sea of explosions. He watched in horror as the KV-80 heavy transport plane in front of him touched down and was immediately engulfed in a fireball.

“There go the ATV’s,” said the adjutant.

“Stuff the ATV’s,” Joachim roared over the noise of the engines. “So long as the men get down, that’s the important thing.”

The plane bucked violently as the wheels slammed onto the rough surface. There was a loud spattering noise intermingled with the whine of the decelerating engines – clods of earth thrown up by the explosions. Slowly – agonisingly slowly – the plane drew to a halt.

“We’re down!” said the pilot, “Now get your behinds off my plane, I ain’t staying here long!”

Joachim nodded, got up and looked down the fuselage at the headquarters platoon. They were shitting themselves.

“All right boys, we’re down, now let’s go! Come on, move it!”

The man at the rear of the plane gladly got up, kicked open the door and leapt out. The rest of the platoon followed with equal speed. Joachim thanked the pilot and then hopped out into the Bocoian sun.

The noise of war was intermingled with the rumble of propellers and the shouts of the Jäger troops. Joachim fixed his field cap and tightened the Ritterkreutz around his collar. He was home again.

General Mohnke appeared from the hut near to where the aircraft had put down. He rushed over to Joachim with a little man in tow. The two men saluted each other formally.

“Joachim, this is Major Tibbets of the Boicoian Army – Major Tibbets, I present Major-General Joachim Meyer of the Koenwitz Expeditionary Force’s 2nd Jäger Division.” Mohnke gestured to the small officer. Tibbets smiled.

“Pleased to meet you, General.”

“Likewise, Herr Major.”

“Let’s get out of this shit, shall we?” said Mohnke, as a second transport plane erupted in flames.

Inside Tibbets’ office, Mohnke had appropriated the desk and set behind it like the proverbial lord of the manor, resting his dusty boots on the stained mahogany. Behind him Tibbets had pinned a large map of Boico and marked the government positions in green and the Cyonist positions in red. There was more red than green.

“So Jo, good flight in?”

“Not one of the best. I’ve got one regiment in country, if I’m lucky. My guess is two companies at the most. It’ll be another day before we’re at full establishment.”

“Good, nothing to stop us beginning right away.”

“What!?” said Joachim, incredulously, “The regiment lost all its transport on the way in, and the only weapons the troops have is what they’re carrying on their backs. Surely it would be better to wait.”

“Wait for what, Jo? For those rebel sons-of-bitches to pinpoint us? I don’t think so. Besides, Major Tibbets here has some important intel.”

Mohnke gestured to the Major a second time. Joachim felt annoyed. Mohnke was always like this, treating everyone like a child. God only knows why they hadn’t stripped him of his rank after that stunt in Harabszk.

“Army intelligence has revealed the possible location of one of Chairman Ozirach’s top lieutenants in a town about ten miles away in the Protean Forest.” Tibbets wandered behind the desk and laid a stubby finger against a red point on the map. “If you could capture this Lieutenant and bring him back here, we might be able to interrogate him and find out where the Chairman is hiding, or something like that.”

“What about that message you decoded, Major, the one from the rebels to that other foreign country, the one that revealed the location of their base?” asked Mohnke.

“Well, we’re still decoding it, but…”

“That’s too easy, Hein,” Joachim cut in, “they reveal the location of their base just like that – come on, surely you can still sniff an ambush.”

Mohnke smiled. “You haven’t lost your touch, old man.”

“Neither have you, you prick,” though Joachim. Mohnke got up from behind the desk and stared at the map, scratching his stubbly chin.

“Okay, here’s what we’ll do. You get 1. Kompanie to establish perimeter defence around the airfield. The Boicoian government is getting more foreign aid and it would do us good to provide security for it. When 3. Kompanie lands, they can go out and find those goddamned artillery pieces and put them out of commission…”

“Good so far,” though Joachim, “but where’s the punchline?”

“But, 2. Kompanie is to move out to that town Tibbets mentioned – what was it called?”

“Torneo.”

“Torneo. Recon in force. Find this Lieutenant and bring him back here alive.”

“What if the Kompanie runs into trouble? We’ve got no air support yet.”

“Don’t worry about it.” Mohnke turned away from the map and placed a cigarette between his lips. “At best these rebels will have a few old bolt-actions and a couple of molotov’s, nothing the Army’s finest can’t handle. And if you do run into trouble, the Boicoians can help you out.”

Mohnke produced a lighter from his pocket and lit the cigarette. Joachim stayed silent, fuming like mad. He and Tibbets exchanged understanding looks. Mohnke clapped the lighter shut.

“Well, what are you waiting for?"

RE: Surrender

The Armed Republic of Koenwitz is sending some of finest troops to find you. And find you they will. The Armed Republic does not wish to see further bloodshed in this country. We are sure that the war can be brought to a peaceful conclusion if you lay down your arms and surrender to us. We will make sure that the government does not summarily execute you, and maintain your human rights. Then there can be peace. What will this violence achieve? Absolutely nothing, except the needless destruction of your army and the loss of countless civilian lives.

If you choose not to surrender, then we would advise you to watch your back. The last rebel leader in Koenwitz who refused to surrender ended his days with his guts hanging from a birch tree. We’d rather it didn’t come to that.

Sincerely,

Colonel-General Heinrich Mohnke

30 years ago, Boico was given 50 LL42 missiles by the United States of The Mexicon Republic government before they too had a civil war. 10 of them didn`t turn up at the army base, the president at the time believed that a terrorist group in the USMR had stolen them. But no, I have 10 LL42 Nuclear Missiles pointed directly at ten major towns in Boico including the capitol, Creipa. If you back me into a corner gentlmen then I will give the order to launch these weapons. You have been warned !

===========================
TORNEO, UNITED SOCIALIST STATES OF BOICO,
2/6/2007, 1700 hours

There was a strange sound in Torneo that morning. The sound of foreign boots crunching against the tarmac. It wasn’t the sound the civilians were used to. They pulled back the curtains and saw a long column of troops walking down their main street. They were clad in dark green and wore light field caps. It seemed very unmilitary. Suspicious eyes gently let the curtains slide back.

Captain Kurt Schwarz, leading 2. Kompanie of the 3rd Jäger Regiment, walked at the head of the column, watching the doors on either side with a keen eye. The town was quiet, the civilians were frightened. Gunfire crackled violently in the distance.

Schwarz didn’t like it here. For starters, he thought it was none of his business what the Boicoians did to each other. He didn’t even know them. His men felt the same way too. The shambolic situation back at the airbase made him glad to be out in the field, but nonetheless, Schwarz had the distinct feeling that he shouldn’t be here. He also felt that things were just a little too quiet…

In one of the doorways a miserable-looking youth of military age stood watching the Koenwitzians. Out of the corner of his eye, Schwarz saw the youth produce a round object from his jacket and throw it in the middle of the patrol. He knew what it was in an instant.

“GRENADE!”

Schwarz instinctively threw himself on the ground and braced for the shockwave. Sure enough, it came – a sharp violent “CRACK!” He felt little slivers of shrapnel slice through his uniform. Men started screaming behind him. Rolling over in the dirt, Schwarz was greeted with the sight of at least a squad of troops lying splayed in the road, ripped to shreds by the explosion. One man was lying against a telegraph pole, his face covered in gore, screaming in agony. Schwarz spotted a corporal kneeling next to the wounded man, trying to help him. The assailant bolted from the door and raced away from the Jäger.

“Corporal, stop that man!” yelled Schwarz.

“Yes sir!” The corporal got up and raised his rifle to his shoulder. Taking carefully aim, he fired, sending a burst of rounds up the assailants back. He crumpled into the road, dead before he hit the ground. The corporal turned back and grinned.

“Got that ass…”

He was cut off. A sniper shot rang through the streets, and the corporal crumpled over. Suddenly the whole world was filled with gunfire and explosions. The windows above burst open and machineguns and RPGs started pouring into the street. Schwarz swore and staggered to his feet.

“SHIT! GET TO COVER! GET TO COVER!”

Taking cover behind a nearby sedan, Schwarz started firing at the assailants.

“RADIOMAN!” he screamed. “GET OVER HERE!”

Through the hail of bullets, Hannes, the radioman, dashed from cover to cover until he had reached his captain. The rest of the Jäger had taken cover in doorways and behind barrels and vehicles and were firing back furiously. The medics dragged the survivors of the grenade attack out of harm’s way.

Schwarz ripped the radio receiver from Hannes’ backpack and yelled at the top of his voice.

“This is Eagle Two Three, I say again Eagle Two-Three, I am pinned down in Torneo and under heavy fire. I have men down. Require immediate assistance!”

There was a long pause on the other end of the line. A bullet fizzed past Schwarz’s ear.

“Uh…roger that Eagle two three,” it was Mohnke’s voice, “hold your position, we’ll get some relief organised for you, out.”

“Fucking brilliant”, Schwarz thought.

“What did the old man say?” asked Hannes, dispatching a machine gunner above who toppled into the street with a thud.

“You don’t want to know…” Schwarz replied. He made hand signals to the men to tell them to hold their positions, and then fired at the windows above. From a building a few feet away from Schwarz a Cyonist emerged with an RPG and took aim.

“RPG!” yelled Hannes, pulling Schwarz against the bonnet of the car. The rocket whizzed past the pair, signing their faces, and exploded in an unfortunate medic several yards further down. The men were sprayed with intestines.

“We’ve got to get out of here, Captain,” said Hannes, wincing as he plucked the gore from his radio.

“We hold until relieved.” Schwarz cocked his rifle and raised his voice so the whole company could hear.

“Now let’s show these sons-of-bitches why we’re called the Green Devils back home!”

Sirens eminated from the bunker as the roof of one of the rooms slid open. After 5 minutes the missile blasted away to it`s destination.

A street in Juilon:

Everyone was going about there business until a big raoring sound could be heared. An object flew by and after 20 seconds a huge explosion could heared and all the glass in the town shattered. Then a huge blast cloud engulfed the town.

Joachim and Mohnke had rushed outside when they first heard the explosion. The flaming mushroom cloud rose up in the distance. Boicoian soldiers outside muttered curses at the two under their breath.

"Jesus Christ...." said Mohnke.

"He was just bluffing, was he? You stupid son of a bitch! Look what you just did!"

Mohnke turned away. Joachim grabbed him and forced him to look at the cloud.

"Look what you just did!"

Mohnke seemed to be on the verge of tears, but wriggled out of Joachim's grip.

"That's one less warhead for him to use."

"Yeah? Oh good plan Hein, we get him to fire off all his goddamned warheads and then he's defenceless. Only problem is most of the population will be killed."

"You got a better idea? Let's hear it!"

"We get out of here. We should never have come in the first place. Christ, the Boicoians are going to love us now."

As Joachim said this, Tibbets emerged from the hut.

"General Mohnke, the president would like a word..."

Mohnke nodded slowly and walked towads Tibbets.

"What about Schwarz's company?" Joachim called after him.

"Fuck them." Mohnke slammed the door. Joachim bit his lip. He called over a few of his soldiers and tried to work out a plan to relieve Schwarz.

=========

In Torneo, however, things had already gone beyond the point of no return. The street was littered with dead. Bulletholes and explosive discharge covered the walls. The 2. Kompanie had ceased to exist.

Underneath the now-bullet riddled sedan, Captain Schwarz slumped down, bleeding from wounds to the leg and shoulder. Hannes, out of ammo, was calling hoarsely into the radio.

"This is Eagle Two Three, request relief. Where's our relief? What was that explosion? Is anyone out the-"

A pistol shot ended his conversation. Schwarz looked up. The Cyonist Lieutenant was standing above him. Schwarz raised his hands. He was out of ammo anyway.

"Corporal," the Lieutenant said, slowly, and with a menacing smile crossing his face. "Looks like we've got ourselves a prisoner."

My dear sir, I wish to firstly apologise for the unbelievably callous conduct of my former friend, Heinrich Mohnke. I served with him for many years but never believed that he would be so incompetent. You have not only my condolonces on your loss, but that of my entire nation.

I am dispatching two freighters and an aviation regiment to begin the evacuation of your major cities. I also call upon other nations reading this to do the same. If you wish to leave the country and continue command of the conflict abroad, there is a place for you here in Koenwitz. I am also sending two further Jaeger divisions and an armoured division to Boico to help in the search for the nuclear weapons and Chairman Ozirach.

Once again, I can only apologise most profusely, and offer my deepest condolonces for your great loss.

Respectfully,

Field Marshal Jurgen Kaen

Prince was taking a walk in the nearby park when he saw the cloud of the explosion.

"Oh shit it can't be!" prince yelled

Prince took out his satellite phone and dialed a number.

A man answered

"Ministry of defense"

"This is prince, code red, password camel, start operation freedom."

"Yes my prince"

Prince quit the call and then called to the president

"President we have a big problem. I assume you know about the exploded warhead. I started operation freedom. You dont know what it is but you will find out in 20 minutes. I dont know what to do anymore. How can we stop those warheads?. We need some anti-missile things or something.

The chatter of helicopter pilots filled one of the few standing hangars at Crepia Airfield. The men of the 442nd Aviation Regiment, freshly arrived in Boico, had spent most of the day hanging around waiting for something to happen. The news of Mohnke's effective life imprisonment raised a few wry smiles.

Joachim didn't have time to worry about Mohnke. The raids into the countryside of Eastern Boico were proving utterly fruitless. What was the point of the Field-Marshal sending him more men when there was nothing to find? But the most pressing matter was how to stop the nukes. Joachim had come up with a plan, but it wasn't going to go down well.

He strode forcefully into the hangar and held his hands up to hush the pilots.

"Gentlemen, as you know at 1700 hours yesterday, the rebel forces detonated a nuclear weapon in the town of Julion. You know how many men were killed. You know what's happened to General Mohnke because of it. We need a way to buy time and save the citizens of Bocio so we can hunt down and wipe out these rebels. I need you to buy that time. But, I warn you, you won't like what I have in mind. Some of you, probably a lot of you, won't be coming home. If there's any man here who doesn't want to follow my plan, I fully understand, and you may step outside now."

Not one man left the room. As Joachim started his briefing, the high-level buzzing of propeller engines rumbled through the room...

Alamedo, Western Boico. Cyonist Held-Territory
3/6/2007, 1800 hours (Boico Standard Time).

The men in Alamedo were jubilant. The news of the explosion at Julion and the resulting chaos in the enemy command camp was just the news they needed. Finally, the end of the war was in sight, and it would be a Cyonist victory. Certainly, some regretted what had happened in Julion, but it showed those foreign bastards what the Chairman was made of.

None of the men noticed the noise propeller engines high above them. Nor did they notice the round, tub-shaped object that was released over their heads from 30,000ft up. What they did notice, if only for a few seconds, was the searing white flash of a nuclear explosion and then blackness, as they were torn to pieces by the shockwave.

=====
Back in Crepia, Joachim was interrupted by Major Tibbets, who crept into the room with a weak smile on his face.

"General Meyer, we've just recieved reports from Western Boico of a second nuclear explosion. The indications are it killed Cyonists, not civilians."

There was cheer from the pilots. Joachim didn't join in. The aircraft was Mohnke's idea. Would he have utterly ruined any chance the Koenwitz Expeditionary Force had to turn the tide of the war?

Chairman Ozriach stepped up to his podium. "Today one of our town was destroyed. May those who kill our friends, rott in hell. For every Cyonist, civillian or troop, killed, we shall kill 50 loyalists !" The crowd roared in aplause, as the big screen that Chairman Ozriach was on switched off.

Thank you. The small town of Pruyi will be suitable. You will be able to tackle the small Cyonist forses and set up a tempary base.

He was happy to see that the rebel leader wasn't an uptight sociopath and appeared to be somewhat easy-going, from first impressions. It was a shame he would be out of the country within 12 hours.

Lieutenant Hans Feldmann was 22. He had a loving wife and family back home in Koenwitz. Today was the last day of his life.

When the early-warning had sounded in the Crepia Base, the men of the 442nd Aviation Regiment were already in the helicopters with the rotors spinning. They had ten, maybe fifteen minutes. Feldmann's was the first off the ground. He aimed it towards the nearby town of Diego, a sure target for the Cyonist Warheads. Lifting the chopper as high as he could, he told his observer to keep an eye on the radar screen. Sure enough, the missile flickered onto the green panel, accompannied by a harsh beep. Feldmann and the observer exchanged knowing looks.

"Phoenix 1, going in."

The missile was already beginning its descent when Feldmann's helicopter climbed to its maximum ceiling. The engine spluttered in the lifeless air, bolts started to burst in the back. It took all of his strength just to keep the thing flying. Down below was a dry salt marsh, a buffer zone. Feldmann would be joining it soon. He saw the flaming tube spiralling downwards, and altered the chopper's course.

"Phoenix 1, contact! Tell my wife...."

The chopper and the missile exploded harmlessly over the marsh.

=========
Back on the ground, Joachim had his head in his hands. The free state of Boico had effectively ceased to exist. 1.5 million dead, 200,000 wounded. The only bright side was that his Phoenix plan had owkred, just. Three choppers had acted as sacrificial lambs and intercepted the warheads at predesignated buffer zones. Of course, the radiation cloud would eventually reach the target, but the Boicoian Army and the KEF had already started the evacuation effort. Joachim banged his fist on the table and cursed Mohnke.

"I want to issue a withdrawal."

"You what?" Tibbets looked up, tears rolling down his cheeks.

"Christ, all we've done is make the situation worse. It's best if we go."

"Oh no." Tibbets slammed his fist on the desk. "No, you Koenwitzians got us into this mess, and you can get us out of it."

"I'm sorry, but it's out of your hands."

Tibbets unholstered his revolver and aimed it at Joachim's head.

"I've taken enough of your bullshit. You people come over to my country, acting as if you know it all. What do you know? Absolutely nothing!! Well, now you're going to stay here so the Cyonists teach you about modern war. And if they defeat the government, and I survive, I'm going to join them when they come and invade your rotten, stinking shithole of a country!"

Joachim smiled, not blinking. "If that's the way you feel, all right."

=================ENCRYPTED MESSAGE=====================

To: The President of the USSB
From: Officer Commanding, Koenwitz Expeditionary Force.

Mr President,

I am sending this to you over the teletype as the phone system has undoubtedly been tapped. The KEF advisory team has come up with some suggestions for possible action in order to turn the tide of the war.

Firstly, we are working on a plan for a major offensive into Western Boico, i.e. Cyonist-held territory, in order to draw their forces into open battle, as well as to impede their reinforcement by foreign nations. However, the odds are stacked against us, and I cannot now guarantee that this war can be one conventionally.

Secondly, we request that the 422nd Aviation Regiment employs chemical weapons in order to flush out guerrillas from Eastern Boico. We also request the use of airfields in Eastern Boico to commence strategic bombing of targets in the west.

Thirdly, in the event that the war really becomes unwinnable, as it threatens to do, we request that Boicoian and Koenwitzian troops withdraw to a safe zone around Crepia Base, instituting a 'scorched earth' policy to deny the Cyonists the use of both habitation and agricultural land.

Respectfully,

Major-General Joachim Meyer
Officer Commanding,
Koenwitz Expeditionary Force

"First Sergeant Collins," the pilot called for him.
"Yes?" Sergeant Collins asked, entering the cockpit.
"We have the authorisation. You guys are jumping."

---------------------------------------------------

The jump was perfect, most troops landed standing with all their gears with them. Collins gathered all his men and marched to an abandoned farmhouse about two kilometres away from the DZ where the battalion had set up its HQ.

"All Easy Company platoon leaders up front." Screamed Lieutenant Davids soon after Sgt. Collins arrived at the farm. "Regiment wants us to take the town of Pruyi, a few kilometres north of here. Easy Company will be leading the assault on the eastern side of town, Able Company will come in on the western side of the town. I want Second Lieutenant Cobb's men to link up with them.

"The Cyonists presence is light, the Boicoan intelligence says so. Remeber boys, without this town the armour support and food and extra ammo won't be able to reach us.

"Any further question? No? Then gather all your men we are moving out in ten minutes."

The Brukistani delegation looked fresh, ready for battle. The Boicoians, on the other hand, looked utterly demoralised. Joachim understood how they felt. He wanted to get the KEF out of this godforsaken country, but needs must.

"Prince Niktah, you wished to discuss a possible offensive against the Cyonists?"

"Most certainly."

"And you have an armoured division in-country?"

"Just arrived."

"Fantastic." Joachim slapped a document on the table. "Then what do you gentlemen think of this?"

======================

DRAFT OPORD: OPERATION "BOICOIAN FREEDOM"
1. OPERATIONAL OBJECTIVES:
a. To capture and neutralise the Cyonist nuclear capability
b. Eliminate the fighting ability of the Cyonist rebel forces.
c. Restore governmental control to Western Boico
d. The capture or elimination of Chairman Robert Ozriach
e. The cessation of the Boicoian civil war.

2. STRATEGY
a. This will achieved by a two-pronged Blitzkrieg-style assault into Western Boico led by the 1st Brukistani Armoured Division and the 2nd (Light) Koenwitzian Armoured Division. These will pass through designated areas which intelligence has revealed to be undefended or lightly defended by Cyonist troops and will converge on Pruyi, the main road hub for Western Boico.
b. This assault will be followed up by regular infantry and mechanized forces who will seize key Cyonist control areas in Western Boico.
c. The 5th Koenwitizan Airmobile Division will be inserted simultaneously at key locations in Western Boico which intelligence believes are the locations of the Cyonist nuclear threat. The troops will eliminate the fire control centres at each of these sites and deactivate the missile launching systems.
d. The 1st Koenwitizan Airborne Division and arriving foreign divisions can be held in reserve to turn the tide in the developing battle.

3. PRE-OPERATIONAL OBJECTIVES
a. To evacuate the bulk of the civilian populace from major population centres and other potential targets.
b. To convince the Cyonists that the Allied Forces are on the verge of defeat, in order to lull them into a false sense of security.
c. To continue to make small-scale raiding operations to gather further intelligence.

====================

"What about the Anatolian Airborne at Pruyi?"

"The perfect diversionary raid. Pruyi can be the focus of the two armoured thrusts. Seizing it will completely disable the Cyonists' logsitical capability. I predict that if things go well, we can relieve them in three days, maximum, assuming they can hold that long."

"Your request for chemical warfare and strategic bombing?"

"Still valid. We need this to cripple the Cyonists and prevent them from reinforcing. I leave the decision to you, gentlemen, as to how you wish to proceed." Joachim folded his arms and rubbed at his temples, while outside the noise of arriving troop aircraft grew steadily louder.

"And what is your Royal Tank division's strength?"

First Sergeant Collins eyes scanned the area surrounding Pruyi. It was flat and grassy, suitable for air crafts to land some more troops and armour. Just then a mortar shell landed a few feet away from one of his men, taking him off his feet.

"Shit, they spotted us!"
"Medic!"
"Enemy fire!"
"Hank's down!"

Sgt. Collins was stunned, what should he do? "MacGregor, move your squad out now!" The words seemed to come out all by themselves. "Doc! Moose! Take Hank to safety. Move out the rest of you!"

Collins' men entered a small courtyard where they linked up with MacGregor and his squad. "Got the sons of bitches," MacGregor said, pointing to the corpses of the Cyonist mortar team. Collins gave him a brief nod, "all right, lets go second second platoon, we have to clear the south of this town.

"Where the hell is Able?" 2nd Lieutenant Cobb swore softly to himself
"Sir, I'm gonna go find them." Volunteered a private
"Get back to your place private. Corporal Harold, take Randall and go link up with A Company. They sould be 'round that block"
The two soldiers moved to the corner. "I'll go first," Cpl. Randall ran around the corner of the block only to be shot by a Cyonist sniper.

"Fuck, enemy sniper!" Harold screamed, watching in horror as the blood slowly oozed out of Randall's neck.

"Where is he?" Lt. Cobb asked coming up from behind. "Second floor, white building."

"Bazooka, on that building now, somebody give him covering fire!"

By the time the medic had reached Randall's body, he was already dead. As the men of the third platoon watched in horror the first casualty in their lives, Lt. Cobb radioed the company's CO.

"Lt. Davids? Cobb here, sir. Able Company is still missing."

Please move your soldiers towards Creipa. If I can judge the president on prevbiouse battles, I believe he will still be in the capitol. Also the river Ead runs straight through the middle of the city. It is big enuffe to sail Cruisers through, but no bigger. So could you please also attack the city with your Battlecruisers as well. Thank you,

Joachim stepped into the sweat-soaked briefing room and pushed his way past the assortment of bodyguards to the map table in the centre of the room.

======================

====================

I approve this operation, ECCEPT the use of chemical weapons. I will not have this nation turned into a hellhole full of crators and chemicals. But, if this mission fails to work, I will have no choice but to surrender.

=================ENCRYPTED MESSAGE=====================

Can you please tell me more about this scortched earth territory.

"Captain Schwarz, I suggest you start to help us. The war is comming to a close and it`s very likely that we will win the war. So will you help us ?"

"Never you Cyonist bastard." The Captain spat in the torturers face. The torturer was non other than Leftennant General Robert Vulinta. Even the name spread fear and terror through both Boicoan and Chembacolian hearts. He was courtmarshalled for torturing Chembacolian prisoners during the Traiuli campaighn. Somehow he escaped from prison and many people thought he had retired to a southern holiday home. But no, Chairman Ozriach had hired him to <Persuade> prisoners to give away secrets about the enamy.

After 6 hours inside the room Leftennant General Vulinta, now Inquisitor General Vulinta came out of the room and called the soldiers with the Video Cam.

"People of Koenwitz, this is Captain Schwarz. Our government is currupt and evil. I plead with you all, as a respected member of the army, to rise up against the government and accept Chairman Ozriach`s control. Once Boico has fallen and then our nation, Boico and Koenwitz united as one power will be unstppable and the world will be at peace."
_________________________________________________________________

"Well done," said Vulinta "You can put down the card now." He jestured to the officer who was holding up the card from which the Captain was forced to read. "Shoot him." The officer took out his pistol and shot the Captain.

"With all due respect, Mr President," Joachim coughed slightly, "the detonation of eight nuclear weapons in your country has rather reduced parts of it to hellholes of craters."

"I refuse to use such weapons." The President folded his arms.

"As you wish."

"Now, scorched earth?"

"An old army trick, used in the Great Patriotic War. If, in the event of our defeat, Allied forces will withdraw, destroying villages and towns and poisoning the soil. This will deny its use to the enemy - in effect it will starve them out. Of course, the effect on the remaining civilian populace will be catastrophic, but..."

Joachim was interrupted when his adjutant burst into the briefing room.

"Herr General..."

"What is it?"

"It's Hauptmann Schwarz...he...he..."

Joachim rushed into his office.

Major-General Ertz pulled the Field-Marshal away and tried to calm him down. Outside, shots rang out in the centre of Koenburg as police put down a small anti-war riot. There was more fear at failure in Boico than a desire to pull out.

"You know what we have to do." Ertz patted the Field-Marshal's shoulder.

Kaen's eyes blazed.

"Send in the Stosstrupp. Teach the bastard a lesson he won't forget."

"And what if he retailiates again."

We shall keep you informed on the situation at Pruyi and once the town is captured, your forces are welcomed to use the road for the offensive into western Boico.

Cyonists casualties: 80 killed, 20 captured
Giliathians: 12 killed, 22 wounded

Joachim sat back from the computer and breathed a sigh of relief. Finally, things seemed to be going well. Yet, the sight of Kurt Schwarz, bedraggled and beaten, and reading that godawful Cyonist script was still haunting him.

The cracks and explosions of battle had been his constant companion, but amidst the din there was the whistle of what sounded like a freight train. Curious, Joachim got up from behind the desk and opened the door to the command hut. The whistle got louder. Then, in the centre of the runway, there was an almighty blast that threw Joachim onto his back. Naval gunfire! Shit!

Scrabbling to his feet, Joachim watched in horror as the massive naval shells tore up the runway. Cursing, he raced back into the office and started giving orders for the evacuation.

============================
Out on the BH45, the main highway towards Crepia, KV UH-1D "Toothy 22" of the 422nd Aviation Regiment was on its way home, blissfully unaware of the situation unfolding at the base. In the back were a group of Jaeger troops who had just been picked up from a scouting mission. The pilot, Gerd Hauenmeyer, was looking forward to getting home.

"Gerd, check it out, down below on the right." His co-pilot tapped him on the shoulder.

Gerd peered out of the bubble canopy. Sure enough, a long column of trucks was moving along the highway towards Crepia.

"This is Toothy 22 to HQ, I got a convoy of trucks down below me. We got Boicoian reinforcements incoming, over?"

"Hey, flyboy, why do them trucks have red stars on them?" shouted one of the Jaeger.

"Probably an 'elite' unit, like you!" Gerd quipped back.

"Toothy 22, this is Crepia base, come back." It was the Captain's voice.

"Y'ello, Toothy 22 here, what's the score on these trucks, skipper?"

"Did you say you had trucks below, because we're not expecting anyone..."

Gerd's face darkened. Shit.

"This is Toothy 22, we are engaging targets, I say again, engaging targets.

"Now wait a second, there, you know the rules, no-one fires unless fired upon, if they haven't got Cyonist logos on them I don't want to -"

Gerd turned off the radio.

"Gunners, safeties off, I'm going in for a strafing run."

There were two metallic clicks as the doorgunners prepped their MG-60s. Gerd tilted the nose of the chopper down towards the convoy. Tracer fire whipped up from the vehicles, and Gerd heard the familiar sound of bullets pinging against the fuesalge.

"There go the rules"

The chopper slid parallel to the convoy and the right-side gunner opened fire. Flames erupted suddenly from the back of one of the trucks and it swerved off the road. Flaming figures leapt out and rolled on the ground.

"Scratch one!" yelled the doorgunner. Gerd lifted the chopper over the convoy to let the left-side gunner have a go. Soon the Jaeger were joining in, and the air over the BH-45 was filled with bullets. A second truck swerved off the road and crashed into a telegraph pole. The fire increased.

"I think we'd better get out of here before they hit something vital!" yelled the co-pilot.

As if one cue, one of the Jaeger yelped in agony as a tracer shell punched through his leg. Warning lights started flickering on the control panel.

"Shit, fuck, shit!" Gerd cursed as he fought the controls. The chopper started to spin. Down below a third truck had been hit and had ploughed into a fourth. The convoy was a mess but still firing.

"This is Toothy 22, we are hit, we are hit! I'm losing power, I'm going down near Crepia..."

Gerd braced himself against the seat and shut his eyes as the ground came up to meet him...

Prince saw Joachim near the airport.

"Good, you're still alive."

"We should retreat!" Joachim yelled

"It's not possible. One of my men saw that enemy is moving men to shore, so we must defend Creipa. There are 10 battlecruisers coming up the Ead River. I'm taking defensive positions with my men in there, but we wont be getting airsupport because the runway has been torn to pieces."

"Ok. You do that!"

"And by the way, I've called reinforcements from Brukistan. They have almost arrived and my navy is soon in range to shoot the enemy navy."

"This is commander Shultz, i'm awaiting for orders" voice came out of prince's radio

"Are you in range?"

"Yes sir"

"Target the battlecruisers in Ead River, Shoot missiles at my command"

"30 missiles ready for firing"

"Three missiles per ship, fire at will"

Prince hang up the radio call

"Now Joachim look to the sea"

They saw how nine missiles launched from ship far away. They were coming fast straight at the battlecruisers. Missiles hit the ships. Huge fireballs were upon the ships. Only one ship sunk, one lost its command room and one lost one of its guns. The rest got only little damage and could keep going forward.

"Commander are you there?"

"Yes"

"Attack the enemy navy and land your troops near Creipa, over and out"

"Yes, My prince"

"Now Joachim, we should go to a safer place. Do you have any idea where should we go? And if your nation has navy you should call it here."

"God almighty, this has got to have been the biggest waste of time in Koenwitzian history! If it wasn't for the Cyonists I'd shoot the coward myself!!!"

"What are you going to do?" asked Major Tibbets. The shock was still flowing through him and he spoke in a low, slow voice.

"Withdraw. What we should've done after the first day."

"What about me?" a tear trickled down Tibbets' cheek. "What about my family?"

"You are welcome to come back and live in Koenwitz. As for your family...it's up to the new government."

Tibbets broke down. Joachim patted him on the shoulder and then picked up the radio announcer mike.

"To all Koenwitz troops in Crepia Base, we are going on plan Kharkov, I repeat, we are going on plan Kharkov. I want a cordon around the base and the runway fixed asap. We need to be gone within the day. I'm sorry boys, you did your best."

Joachim put the microphone down and then tapped out a message on the teletype to the commander of the 5th Airmobile Division that was still in the field.

"Plan Jericho is on. Do what you have to do."

Tibbets had stopped crying.

"You're really going to do it?"

"I have no choice. The President didn't offer a decision either way on the scorched earth option. It seems like the right thing to do."

"The right...thing to do..." Tibbets broke down again.

Joachim sat back in his chair and rubbed his temples. What about Mohnke? If he left him behind, God only knew what the Cyonists would do to him. He would contact the Stosstrupp

Sighing, Joachim sat forward and began typing the telegrams he hoped he would not have to send...

The announcement of the surrender has come as an incredible shock to us here at KEF HQ. After consulting with my government the decision has been made to make a tactical fighting withdrawal, despite our status as the largest Allied military force remaining in USSB. To the commander of the regiment of the 55th Anatolian Airborne Division in Pruyi I can offer an immediate airlift out of the city and a return to Theodorplatz military airfield in Koenwitz where your government can send aircraft to pick you up without fear of attack.

It remains for me to say how disappointed I am in the Preisdent and the government of Boico that they chose not to weather the storm. However, those brave Boicoian troops that still wish to live in freedom have 24 hours to make their way to the airfield and dockyard at Crepia Naval Base where they can return with the KEF for asylum in Koenwitz.

Thank you for your help. Of course I and the Boicoan people would be more than happy to allow a military base being built by your nation, and a hope we can have future relations.

Another victory for the Cyonists! We want to congratulate you, and the Cyonist forces. As a result of you climbing towards the top of the Boicoan government, we would like to know if we could establish diplomatic relations, and establish a Military Base.

Regards,

Pavel Dybenko

Thank you very much for helping us fight the good fight. We would very much like it if you set up a military base and we look forward to diplomatic relations.

--Isolated Area on Boicoan Coastline--

A few Boicoan nomads on horseback wander aimlessly. Waves crash against the shore. The wind blows steadily inland.

The Boicoan nomads are used to this situation. It is the isolated Boicoan coastline on each and every night throughout each and every year. Even during the recent civil war these nights had not changed.

One of the nomadic horses senses something, however. Eventually the nomads look upward and the sight before them is simply amazing - to them at least.

What they see is nothing short of a military invasion.

Large, white parachutes open up and guide tiny dots to earth. Scarier, however, are the parachutes which are carrying boxy looking trucks with mounted machine guns on them. The sky is filled with parachutes. Thousands of them stretch up and down the coastline and as far inland as a single nomad can see. Certainly this can't be a good development, a nomad thinks to himself.

And suddenly he was proven as correct. Machine gun fire ripped through the whole group. After a few moments nothing that previous occupied the coastline was still within the realm of things that could be classified as alive.

Your disision is wise. But you will hand over all loyalist soldiers to us. The civillians can go with you if that`s what you want. But you have no right to take the soldiers out.

I may remind you that all Boicoian troops within the Crepia Bridgehead came under my command when the President capitulated, and hence are classed as Koenwitzian Auxiliaries. These men have already been evacuated. However, those Boicoian troops that arrive at Crepia from outside will be turned away in accordance with your wishes. We will be gone from Boico in the next six hours.

Respectfully,

Maj-Gen Meyer

We will be leaving Boico in six hours. The Cyonists have refused permission to let us take out Loyalist soldiers, so I advise those of you that can make it to the base to lose your uniforms, weapons and identity tags. The password you must give to the Koenwitzian troops to identify yourselves to them at the base will be "Mayflower".

Godspeed to you all.

Maj-Gen Meyer,
Koenwitz Expeditionary Force.

"Sir," a private marched into Flaubert's office. "What is it trooper?" The soldier handed him a few pieces of paper before the colonel dismissed him. "Damn it," Flaubert swore loudly then he read the message from Boico's government aloud for the whole room to hear, punctuating words with hand movements. He slammed the message down onto the table, "Gentlemen, I don't know what to say. We had to paradrop into this country and take this piece of shit town only to know that the government had just surrendered. For what?

"What should I tell the parents? What should I tell the men? Damn it."
